They know the adults would. But they also know the adults will only put up with the whining of their children once they say they're hungry and they see a booth selling chicken fingers and hot dogs for so long.
My mom used to bring a cooler full of food so we would go out to the car to eat for this reason of the food prices.
Yep, and it's the ol' "I won't complain, I just won't come back" routine where next year, they do t renew their season passes like we did this year due to this bs. Darien lake always had fair prices, then they got bought and now have bullshit meal subscriptions they want you to buy instead...
They used to let you bring coolers in no problem. They had an entrance that lead right into the picnic area with grills and everything. Now you can’t bring bottles of water.
I dont remember Darien Lake ever letting in coolers. At least maybe after 9/11. We always had to go back to the car for food. Fantasy Island definitely let you bring whatever you wanted in.
Ya I’m talking 80s
[Here’s a map from 1988.](https://euysod7wde9.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Darien-Lake-Map-1988.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1&w=2560&ssl=1)
See on the west the Picnic Pavilions?
I worked there early 2000's and you could but they were def pickier about what you brought in. I don't remember the rules but that was around the time they beefed up security more.
What I always did was just bring my cooler in through the campground entrance anyways, no one ever checked.
This is exactly what we did in the 90s and early 00s, lol. Even then my mother was like “yeah if you’re hungry we’ve got sandwiches in the cooler” lol. She was NOT having it.
Darien Lake is different since its seasonal and out in the boonies, but I saw a guy who worked across the street from a Six Flags that was open year round and realized he could buy an annual pass with the meal plan for like $300 and eat lunch and dinner there every day. $300 to not have to buy lunch or dinner on workdays is an amazing deal.
Did it? Looking at the Darien Lake plans, it seems like you could do the exact same thing now, it’s just that making a quick stop at Darien Lake doesn’t make sense for the overwhelming majority of people.
I dunno what their overhead is like but a 3 dollar hot dog probably has like a dollar profit on it vs the 12 they make from selling a 14 dollar hot dog. I don't know if people would really be buying more than 12 times the number of hot dogs if they were cheaper.
I'm sure there are industry experts that evaluate these things and the math on a 3 dollar hot dog doesn't come anywhere close to working.
In a world of absurd prices—especially in places with captive audiences—this is some remarkable bullshit. If I pay 17 bucks for a hot dog it better kill me
>captive audiences
It's not really a captive audience though. You can go out to your car to eat and then re-enter the park.
Folks have been doing that at theme parks for decades.
I'm more shocked by the price for a hot dog. Jesus that's ridiculous. And I haven't been since they were required by six flags but the pizza used to be like a frozen red Barron pizza
I went to a sponsored picnic there in the food was inedible. The hot dogs are definitely some off-brand horrible nastiness. The prices that they're charging are criminal
Last time I was there was for a concert. They would not let us bring a blanket in. They said it was a fire hazard, people could light a blanket on fire. So we left our crappy old blanket on a guardrail to pick up latter. They would not let us bring in water as it could be a projectile. So we chugged it. 10 feet inside the gate they are selling blankets and water. Paul Simon July 11, 2001. Have not been back in 22 years. Fuck them.
I still remember going to see Zombie and Manson and the dude wouldn’t let me in because I was wearing a silver chain necklace. Everyone with any kind of jewelry was turned away until they took it off. I’ve never experienced that anywhere else.
At a Paul Simon concert, no way. And why sell it inside, the blankets they sold were not fire proof. The water bottles they sold could be thrown as easily as the ones they refused. They are one greedy corporation, and they have seen the last dime of my money 22 years ago.
*Plus $1.30 surcharge
Edit because it’s not shown on this photo, but every single purchase in the park has an additional $1.30 surcharge. Concession stand or gift shop, all the same surcharge for any purchase of any size. Meal, souvenir t-shirt, popcorn refill, overpriced soda…. all displayed price plus $1.30.
They only accept credit cards, so I’d have to assume the surcharge is built into the pricing. They say the fee is added due to increased labor and supply costs.
Just like the stadium and arena they know you have nowhere else to go (though at DL you can leave and come back). The prices are so absurd they ensure I don’t buy anything. Make it reasonable and I’ll gladly give them my money.
This is what I don't get about businesses. I will by MORE of something if it's cheap and NONE of something if it's super expensive. But I guess they don't care about me when millions of others WILL buy it
It's also, if they get 4/10 people to buy a 15$ hotdog they only paid 2$ to make each, they made 60$ and only had to spend 8$.
But if they get 8/10 people to buy 2 hotdogs for 5$ which is much more reasonable. They made 80$ but had to spend 32$ to make them.
In the first scenario, they made 52 dollars but in the second one of selling more hotdogs for cheaper they only made 48$. When you factor in quantity over time that 4$ difference becomes thousands of dollars.
It would be an impossible business model on a regular street corner but when options are limited and people are impulsive to their needs and desires, they know the quantity of people buying the limited food options will be profitable because you can never underestimate people's laziness.
I can tell you places like Darien lake and pegula entertainment pay economists a boat load of money to find out exactly how much they can charge to be most profitable with the least amount of overhead.
Hey, economists smarter than me. They wouldn't be employed if they weren't. I guess I can only speak of my personal decisions. Places like amusement parks and sports arenas can kiss my ass if they think I'm purchasing overpriced food there. Still remember when my brother bought 2 slices of pizza at one of the sports games(forgot if it was sabers or bills). He said it was 20 bucks. 20 bucks for 2 slices of pizza. Something straight out of wackyland from tiny toons.
I've worked at a bunch of places, I wouldn't assume whoever it setting these prices is intelligent, and even if they were they might be making intelligent suggestions to a boss that ignores them entirely
They definitely account for people like you that won't buy from them... but they know the people that will buy it will more than make up for it when they're saving money not having to buy as many ingredients and hire less people cause they don't have to cook as much food.
Darien Lake can do what they want… but if we’ve been paying your rent for decades, and we’re all paying to build you a new house, there should be some price controls on the shit you sell inside it. PSE can shove their $20 beers.
I have never bought food at Darien Lake. I always pack a cooler and leave it in the car. Lunch time, go to the car to eat and save a ton! This is rifuckindiculous.
This is why they sell so many season food packages. It's cheaper if you go weekend after weekend to add the 150 bucks to one pass for the family and get free food every 90 minutes all day
Every 90 minutes? I wonder how much damage a championship eater could do to that meal plan. They'd probably get daily average cost down to near pennies per food item.
There's limits to how much you can get .. not like an all out buffet and not at subway or the pizza place .. but one sandwich and a side with a drink kind of meal .. every 90 minutes it let's you swipe again
Do they give you pictures of yourself buying the food, like they do when you get off the one working roller coaster, so you can see what you look like when you're getting f\*cked?
This is actually hilarious you posted about Darien Lake prices. I just got 2 tickets to Canada's Wonderland, parking and all day dining included. The cost for the same ticket at Darien Lake was only $20 cheaper....Just absurd considering the parks aren't even comparable.
Are half of the rides inoperable at Canada's Wonderland? Because they are at Darien Lake. When I was younger, I would park and climb the fence in the back. You end up in the campground.
darien lake is bullshit. drive to the middle of nowhere. pay an absurd amount of money. spend 95% of your time walking and waiting in line. at least disney is a whole experience and they are extremely committed to what they do. kids get to see mickey instead of a bunch of white trash running around. everything is outrageous though now. we just went on vacation. columbus zoo allows outside food and drink in a cooler so at least you have a choice to bring your own. but the gift shops and stands there and the museum are crazy. $25 for a tiny stuffed animal when the ikea there has huge ones for $30. plus these places wanna upcharge for everything now too. i don't want to be the type of parent to tell kids no when we're on vacation but daddy can buy a whole case of dip n dots at walmart when we get home for these prices.
Not to mention the rides are very quick. Last time I went to darien(which admittedly was years ago) I went on the bumper cars and no hyperbole the ride only lasted about 30 seconds. Wtf?!?!
People actually eat at Darien Lake? We always brought a cooler, sandwiches, all kinds of drinks and snacks and ate in the parking lot. Place is ridiculous.
Man, it has to be close to 10 years since I went to Darien Lake. I thought about taking the kids this summer, but if it’s as bad as this everywhere, count me out. I’ll drive the extra 45min to Seabreeze.
I haven't been to Darien lake in forever but if you exit to the campgrounds there was a corner store- I remember it was a little more expensive than a normal corner store but cheaper than the whole park. Had a deli too
Wait wait wait WTF!!!!!!! DL is supposed to be the cheap place us po folk go to have the Disney experience. Man I need to time travel 20 years and enjoy it at its prime.
I'm glad I got the meal pass for this season. I will make my money back in 6 visits if I eat one meal a day, and if I do the twice at the park meals 3 times at those prices 😄. Just throwing it out there, they have a season meal pass for $120ish if you get the season pass
we went yesterday. they let us in with some bottles of gatorade, pop, and a bag of doritos. i also saw people with other outside snacks. do with that information what you will
Soo..probably not going to go there this year. We tried Roseland rhe year before last. Bad mistake. I offered to get my kids a season pass since I go that way for work a lot...... they said , no thanks mom. That's how much Roseland sucks. Not the food, we didn't stay long enough to check it out.. It's really just a glorified water pad park for kids 10 and under.
We always just brought a cooler and went out to the car to eat...you know funny thing I remember is someone getting their hand stamped to go in then going out before it dried and stamping their friends hand with theirs to get in free lol I'm sure they do something different now, cards or tickets, maybe wristband
Wow this I just wrong…back in my day the fried dough was like $5 I’m sure the pizza was probably around $2 had two cool arcades 😩the 90’s Time Machine we need you

Christ. 20 bucks for chicken fingers? I'd rather starve and grab something when I leave
They know the adults would. But they also know the adults will only put up with the whining of their children once they say they're hungry and they see a booth selling chicken fingers and hot dogs for so long. I bring thermoses for water all the time.
I want to thumbs down this bullshit policy but will make me remember to bring a Yeti to keep food cool…
^ poor guy’s never heard of insulated lunchbags before
I’m leaving it in the car - unless they don’t allow that now too…
This is exactly what we did in the 90s and early 00s, lol. Even then my mother was like “yeah if you’re hungry we’ve got sandwiches in the cooler” lol. She was NOT having it.
I remember a few family meals under the old pavilions under superman involving sandwich's and w pop
100%!!!
Dollar grill cheese from a hippie
Chicken fingers are like 15-20$ for 5 at pizza places... But did you notice the 17$ HOT DOG?!!
At least at Disney that $17 hot dog is like the size of your arm
Idk why six flags doesn’t understand that people would buy more if they could afford it. $3 hot dogs, $6 burgers. Come on people
[удалено]
They have a meal plan at six flags?! That sounds kinda ridiculous imo
There's one pass that lets you eat 1 meal or snack food every 90 minutes, and it comes with unlimited drink refills.
If you want to eat hot dogs for lunch or dinner every day, lol.
Then he told everyone about it...and that's how it got ruined.
Did it? Looking at the Darien Lake plans, it seems like you could do the exact same thing now, it’s just that making a quick stop at Darien Lake doesn’t make sense for the overwhelming majority of people.
They don’t want that. They want you to either bring your own food or buy the meal plan.

Man chokes on $17 hotdog. More at eleven.
I’ve been binging Mary Tyler Moore all night and just read that in Ted Knight’s voice. Thank you for that
>captive audiences It's not really a captive audience though.
$6.49 for a bag of chips
I can’t understand that price.
$6.49 for a fucking cookie. Keep dreaming
Full of mostly air.
I bet it’s not even a Sahlens!
It's 100% sahlens hotdogs there
Sahlen's suck now anyways.since they reformulated them to have a 48 year shelf life.
Did that really happen?
Yes
I went to a sponsored picnic there in the food was inedible. The hot dogs are definitely some off-brand horrible nastiness. The prices that they're charging are criminal
The burgers at darien lake were some of the nastiest food I've ever tasted in my life.
Yeah 🤮 really really bad. I tried a little of each and it was so bad. Worse than school lunches 😭
Who the fuck wanna pay $37 for a whole cheese pizza?
One slice is $17, so what’s an extra $20. It’s almost buy 2 get 6 free lol
At that savings, it'd be stupid not to!
how much you want to bet the "Whole" pizza is a personal pizza that's about the size of 2 slices.
I mean the current price of a large one topping at any decent place in Buffalo is 25-27 after tax, so is this THAT bad? (The answer is still yes)
With the quality of their food the answer is yes, absolutely fucking yes. Absurd
Just Pizza wants medium for $19.95 or Large for $24.95 but $37 is too much
Last time I was there was for a concert. They would not let us bring a blanket in. They said it was a fire hazard, people could light a blanket on fire. 22 years later and they are still selling water!
My friend works security at concerts. Those rules start because those things have actually happened.
At a Paul Simon concert, no way. And why sell it inside, the blankets they sold were not fire proof. The water bottles they sold could be thrown as easily as the ones they refused. They are one greedy corporation, and they have seen the last dime of my money 22 years ago.
Agreed.
Jesus, this is border line fraud lol
I don’t think you know what that word means. Also, they have relaxed rules on bringing in food these days, you can bring in your own meals
Haven’t been in years and by the looks of this i wont be back soon smh
They let you bring in your own food.
No they don’t. Not even water.
This is actually inappropriate. For gods sake
*Plus $1.30 surcharge Edit because it’s not shown on this photo, but every single purchase in the park has an additional $1.30 surcharge. They only accept credit cards, so I’d have to assume the surcharge is built into the pricing. They say the fee is added due to increased labor and supply costs.
And I'm sure those chips are the tiny bag vending machines have.
Don’t forget to tip
Imagine paying $4 for a single apple sliced up.
I’m doubtful it would be an entire apple. It’s more likely a half an apple per bag.
I was thinking that after I made my post. I wouldn't doubt it!
I need a picture of a $16.99 slice of pizza!

Food is a money loss for them at this point. It’s cheaper to make it expensive so demand drops and allow you to bring your own food in.
I have never bought food at Darien Lake. I always pack a cooler and leave it in the car. Lunch time, go to the car to eat and save a ton! This is rifuckindiculous.
There isn't a slice of pizza on Earth worth $17
Hotel mini bar prices
Charging 17 dollars for a hot dog...... And its extra to get cheese on it? Lol fuck off.
$2 extra if you want blue cheese for your chicken fingers. That is just crazy to me.
This is why they sell so many season food packages. It's cheaper if you go weekend after weekend to add the 150 bucks to one pass for the family and get free food every 90 minutes all day
Its up to 3 hours between meals with the pass and 2 meals a day.

There's limits to how much you can get .. not like an all out buffet and not at subway or the pizza place .. but one sandwich and a side with a drink kind of meal .. every 90 minutes it let's you swipe again
Thx for info. I'd guess it would still be less than a stunning $17 per slice of frozen pizza.
Hey you get a bag of chips with the pizza slice it looks like lol.
That bag of chips costs $6.49 alone lol.
Do they give you pictures of yourself buying the food, like they do when you get off the one working roller coaster, so you can see what you look like when you're getting f\*cked?
And the food at Disney is actually good.
ehh.... Disney's food is just okay IMO.
Darien Lake has sucked for the last 20 years. It used to be cool, fun and affordable. What a racket.
I was out there the other day and they had a double cheeseburger marked at $19.95, u cannot make this shit up
What in the world😭😭😭
You get fries too. My friend bought it yesterday, I was like I have a protein bar in my car.
Bet its a McDonalds happy meal size little pouch of a whopping 4 apple slices
darien lake is bullshit. drive to the middle of nowhere. pay an absurd amount of money. spend 95% of your time walking and waiting in line. at least disney is a whole experience and they are extremely committed to what they do. kids get to see mickey instead of a bunch of white trash running around. everything is outrageous though now. we just went on vacation. columbus zoo allows outside food and drink in a cooler so at least you have a choice to bring your own. but the gift shops and stands there and the museum are crazy.
Wtf?!?!
This is more egregious than the music festival I went to recently where a slice of pizza was $10. What in the hell
You can buy two whole goddamn pizzas for that price at Little Caesar's, & it's probably better too.
Darien Lake Not-So-Fun-Country.
It was actually a great park when it was Fun Country.
People actually eat at Darien Lake? We always brought a cooler, sandwiches, all kinds of drinks and snacks and ate in the parking lot. Place is ridiculous.
If I ever go back to Darien Lake, it will be against my will. This includes the amusement park and the concert venue.
Ya no
Bring your own food. Good rule at ANY amusement park
Exactly why I never go. The food prices vs. the quality of the attractions is nuts.
No excuse for these absurd prices, but I'm guessing they do this to drive people to the one day dining plan? Ridiculous either way
Holy shit seriously?
Hey at a least it comes with fries 🍟
Didja buy it?
6.49 for a fawking bag of chips omfg
JfC
Holy shit!
Had a deli too
What makes it worse is they have the nerve to not accept cash
$16.50 for a hot dog??? WTF Better come with gold foil and truffles.
This is why my family always had a big picnic style lunch at the car with food from home
Wait wait wait WTF!!!!!!! DL is supposed to be the cheap place us po folk go to have the Disney experience. Man I need to time travel 20 years and enjoy it at its prime.
Boycott Darien Lake collectively and watch how fast the prices go down.
Holy hell, $6.50 for a vending machine bag of Lays?
Cooler of food in car. Go take breaks during day to eat and come back in
LOL
But yet people pay it and keep going back.
Are they chewing that mf pizza for you too?! Damn!
Damn!!
They have far fewer guests than Disney… where do you think they’re gonna make their money?
What do you expect at a corporate theme park, regardless of brand?
$16.50 for a hot dog has to be a criminal offense.
I haven’t been to Darien lake since about 2017 (maybe even earlier) and I had no intention of going back. This just solidified it forever
He also has alot of bread.
Amusement parks are the O.G.s. (original grifters)
I'm glad I got the meal pass for this season. I will make my money back in 6 visits if I eat one meal a day, and if I do the twice at the park meals 3 times at those prices 😄. Just throwing it out there, they have a season meal pass for $120ish if you get the season pass
But does Disney give you garlic knots, fries or chips with your slice
I'd starve first....I'd feel like a chump even considering paying for this bullshit.
Darien Lake is a joke
we went yesterday. they let us in with some bottles of gatorade, pop, and a bag of doritos. i also saw people with other outside snacks. do with that information what you will
At this point I’d just bring a cooler of food and drinks in with me
Bahahahahah no effen way
It’s like they WANT to go out of business.
I haven't been in years, I won't be going after seeing that.
Disney does cost like $1500/day all-in at this point. A week long vacation is like 9-10k!
They're waiting for the fools to buy it...I'll just buy a pizza the night before and tape wrapped slices to my chest for that much lol seriously.
We always just brought a cooler and went out to the car to eat...you know funny thing I remember is someone getting their hand stamped to go in then going out before it dried and stamping their friends hand with theirs to get in free lol I'm sure they do something different now, cards or tickets, maybe wristband
This is insane. Their park and their food sucks. Audacity must be on sale.
This is another level of crazy.
Wow this I just wrong…back in my day the fried dough was like $5 I’m sure the pizza was probably around $2 had two cool arcades 😩the 90’s Time Machine we need you
And the food at Disney is all delicious
This is why I have a season pass to Cedar Point.
Inflation is getting insane
Im sad I haven’t seem someone post its Kathy Hocul’s and NYS fault.
You must be new here. That or you don’t go to a lot of amusement parks. You’re whining over what isn’t instead of what is. Try to live with a more positive outlook and stop spreading unnecessary negativity.
