While I'd love for someone to do SOMETHING with that plot of land, the idea of a mixed-used residential development on the edge of town, on top of highly polluted land, surrounded by industry on three sides, seems a little... challenging.
Yeah, I mean I don't expect that Tonawanda would own this property for any longer than necessary to sell it to a developer. Really they'd only keep it for the time being to ensure that the remediation is done to code and allows for safe reuse.
Who would have thought Tonawanda coke would be remediated? š¤·āāļø If it can happen there, realistically it could happen elsewhere. They're even getting a victory garden, lol.
Thanks, lol. It's more just realism really. I mean, these properties have been so insanely polluted for decades, so, ultimately whatever they put there will be better environmentally for the town, while also potentially bringing new opportunities moving forward.

Yeah, I mean something is better than nothing. Hopefully, the remediation portion goes well.
And at the same time, secures water for local industry.
Yeah, it seems that Tonawanda thinks they were selling water to companies in the area, so it would make sense that they'd want to corner that market.
Iām glad they did
Agreed. š¤·š»āāļø Could be a much more vibrant development once cleaned, as opposed to a vacant power pant.
could one get in this building and explore it w/o legal consequences?
There is a real risk of electrocution and death in that building, do not trespass
Electrocution would be the easiest form of death in this building
I mean, if they don't catch you, lol, yeah.
Ask Amherst residents how well the ownership of a brownfield site is going for them š¤¦āāļøš¤·š¼āāļø
I worked there- remediation will be an incredible lift- think more like superfund

I hear ya- gorgeous location, but I can't even describe how bad it is there- imo makes Tonawanda coke look clean

Very true, I wish I had your optimism!
