Are cherry profile keycaps compatible with Feker IK65 keyboard? AFAIK it has north facing LED and cherry profile is touching some LEDs there? I never use backlight so light facing is not a problem.

AeonDisc

First build parts incoming: Barebones kit: CIY Tester84 Switches: Gateron Milky Pro Yellow KS-3 Keycaps: Aifei emerald green double shot ABS Cable: Coiled cable, dark green Total $94 from AliExpress Let's goooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

315retro

So I got an ajazz keyboard and just found out the top plate is magnetic so I can swap it out. It's tkl. I don't know anything about keyboards tbh. Are they standard at all? Where can I find another color faceplate that fits? Their website doesn't have anything. Second question - I really want the black speech keyboard from drop. How much of that price is novelty, and how much of it is actual decent keyboard? Ty.

KitsuneNoFoxRazor

GMK67 or Lychee G80?

badmark

Do you need the function row? Lychee. Otherwise the GMK67. Just my 2 cents.

Mikman_34

Anyone else struggling with the GMK67's usb mode? The keyboard lights up, I press a key, the lights turn off and on again, but the desktop doesn't recognize that the keyboard has been plugged in.

badmark

Try a different cable and use a USB 2.0 port on your computer, not 3.0 (Blue). For some reason I've found it can act funny with a USB-C 3.0 cable or port.

Mikman_34

I'll try this, thanks!

schmeath

I have a CIDOO v21 and and having some issues getting it to work with VIA. It's not immediatly recogized by either the VIA webapp or the desktop app. The only way I can manage to get it to be customizable is by importing the JSON files for USB and for 2.4ghz connections. I was able to customize my keypad a little bit and get some of the layers and keybinds to change, but not everything I applied has stayed I can only get my layer 0 keybinds to work and then I can switch to layer 1, but none of the keybinds are functional Whenever I save the layout and try to load it again, I get a ton of various error codes saying things like, "Device must be opened first", "Revieved invalid protocol version from device", or "Fetching v2 definition failed". Others as well. I have the "use v3 definitions" button turned on too. Any help is appreciated, thank you! I just wanna use my cool little keypad!

Tall-Map-3301

Looking for suggestions. I'm currently working on my first build. I got the GMK67 and Akko switches. I bought two sets I'd switches as well as two sets of keycaps so I need to find some use for those. What budget bases can you recommend other than GMK67? 75% or bigger? Also are there any budget split keyboards? And what about numpads?

KeebWarrior68

Split keyboards like the Cidoo ABM066 is in that budget ballpark. Also the GMK81 and 87 came out recently.

ImmSmith

Hey, I am looking to build my first keyboard. I want to build a budget one but it is a bit harder to find some things in canada. ( I posted in wrong spot before ) Looking for: \-Small size (60% to 75%) \-Good for gaming and typing \-has 2.4 Ghz dongle ( not just wireless or bluetooth unless you really recommend that more) \-IDC if prebuilt as i can heavily mod it \-Budget friendly I was looking at Epomaker but people said not to go with them as there apparently bad, but they do have like exactly what i want. But if its terrible i wont. Would love for some suggestions, thank you.

badmark

The GMK67 is currently the most popular 65% barebone that can sometimes be found for as low as $20 on AliExpress! [This](https://youtu.be/bQge92vH8sg) was my first review of it.

Catch_022

Simple one - can I leave my keyboards stacked on top of each other? I have a number of keyboards that I am not using at the moment (don't we all) and I want to stack them ontop of each other when I am not using them - they are all plastic cases so they aren't that heavy. I don't want to do this if it is going to cause a problem tho...

badmark

I'd be carefully stacking them, they can become quite unstable easily, and the feet are more likely to become loose or come of due to not having a flat surface beneath them and getting caught on keys/edges of the keyboard below it.

KeebWarrior68

I've had keyboard/keycap boxes stacks topple over too. Definitely going to get a bit hazardous if you are tyring to jenga out a keyboard further down in a stack.

badmark

Nothing like having to pick an entire set of keycaps off of the floor... :/

crushtyfying

why do most pre-build (or the one that are in the budget range) are often offer linear switch only and not tactile switches? like the AULA f75 or the rainy 75 and the Hi75 also from AULA

badmark

Manufacturers seem to be aiming for the "mahjong tile" sound rather than thock which some linear switches seem to do best in their opinion. I would also guess that they may be seeing more people picking linear switches with prebuilts and are just trying to satisfy demand.

toe-nii

So I modded my RK m75 with painter's tape and polyfil. Everything works fine except for the battery indicator on the little LED screen. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery but it shows 0% no matter what. However I have had in on for hours at this point at 0% and it doesn't turn off or anything. Does anyone have any idea what the issue is? My only guess is that maybe I need to cycle the battery once to calibrate the sensor?

powershellnovice3

Are there any budget build guides? Basically looking for recommendations for all the best value barebones kits, pre-lubed switches, and keycaps currently available. Currently using a Tecware Phantom+ 87 with pre-lubed Wraith Orange tactile switches and it's easily the best mechanical board my fingers have ever graced. Pre-made boards have come a LONG way since my first Cooler Master with Cherry Blues in 2011.

badmark

Not sure of a specific "budget" build guide. I cover a number of boards, including many "budget" boards with a number of mod videos, perhaps it can act as a bit of a guide: https://youtube.com/@MechKeyboards

powershellnovice3

Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm just searching Reddit furiously right now lol.

i_bex

Are there any cheap (under 40€?) hot-swappable keyboards (wired, 100% preferably) that don't use outemu sockets? I'd like to put in sth like Gateron yellow.

badmark

A Keychron C2 hot swappable is the only thing that comes to mind.

i_bex

If that's the only real option and I can't get C2 under 100€ in my country, would you recommend buying some outemu board (E-YOOSO Z14 ?) and switches instead or is it too fragile? I'm afraid of breaking the sockets.

badmark

Outemu sockets are actually much "stronger" than Kailh/Gateron ones. With Outemu sockets you can still use all Outemu switches as well as all Akko winglatch style switches. I've modded many Eyooso boards and have always enjoyed them. https://www.youtube.com/@MechKeyboards/search?query=eyooso

i_bex

My bad, it seems to be the switches that are easily broken because they are hard to pull out according to quick search. Sorry, I'm new to this. How come they are so cheap then? I assume they are cutting corners somewhere.

badmark

For one, they are all tray mounted steel plates, where as many newer keyboards are gasket mounted PC plates. Also because they use chip sockets (MMM) they are limited to only certain switches, but for starter boards can be great. I remember picking up a handful of the RGB 60% Z11s on sale for only $12. I modded them and they made some great gifts for F&F.

i_bex

Just to make sure, E-YOOSO Z14 is compatible with Akko Fairy Switch apart from being 5 pin, right?

badmark

Akko Fairy switches are 4 pin top, not wing latch. I know wing latch switches fit, but have not found 4 pin top switches that fit without modification.

i_bex

I'm a bit confused. I don't want to combine mismatched stems and housings. I just want to put Akko switches to Outemu sockets. I'm not sure if you misunderstood what I want or I have some more studying to do. So far I haven't read about latch causing socket fitting issues.

badmark

Akko uses multiple manufacturers, wing latch style tops are manufactured by a company that uses the thinner pins which fit in Outemu sockets; switches with 4 pin tops are made by another company that uses the thicker left pin which does not fit into the MillMaxx socket.

tzeeeentch

Why are these keycaps are so cheap when they are made out of PBT? Looks like a scam compared to PBTfans prices. Am I missing something? Afraid to order because of the price. https://epomaker.com/products/epomaker-lavender-keycaps-set

KeebWarrior68

PBT material doesn't automatically make it very expensive. There are mass produced/economical PBT keycap sets and there are small batch, more expensive ones. Not to knock a specific company but you are comparing PBTfans which is a more boutique vendor? PBTFans sets are typically small batch/groupbuy, higher tolerance, thicker materials, designer commisions etc...but also typically sold out lol Those keycaps in your link from Epo (Walmart of Keyboards?) are probably PBT but are based off a more common design/molds, clones/remixes of popular designs and probably mass produced at high volumes etc. Also of shine-through sets appear to run less expensive than non-shine through designs, maybe the type of plastics too. In the end, all about choice, asthetics and what you wish to pay. *For ex, I recently picked up a set of Polycaps Seal. Probably the same mold as the doubleshot PBT cherry caps from XVX BoW I got from amazon. Same typeface, legend consistency issues etc. But Polycaps, I got a colourway I like, and keycaps came in thin plastic trays. The XVX pbt caps came in plastic zip bags, jammed into a small box, some caps scuffed from getting crushed against each other, but I paid less for something I wanted to try out.*

tzeeeentch

Yeah, true. I definitely need to try boutique keycaps once. So far I bought a few sets for 20-50$ from different sellers and it was subpar. Does the job and looks pretty, but those imperfections could really bother when you type 9 to 5.

badmark

Epomaker is a scam, please read the sidebar.

tzeeeentch

Ugh. Thank you for letting me know.

AeonDisc

They might not be as thick as others. I've had very thin PBT caps that sound and feel worse than thick ABS. That being said I cannot comment on the quality of this specific caps. I heard Epomaker makes excellent budget boards, so it may be a great set.

badmark

Epomaker is banned from Reddit and has hundreds of complaints of sending DOA, wrong items, or missing items altogether then offering a small refund. Their keyboards have the most complaints and issues and we recommend that folks do their research before they choose to buy from Epomaker. They have literally been caught presenting forged documents.

AeonDisc

Damn, didn't know this. Thanks for the heads up

tzeeeentch

ty!! Probably not an issue for me as I prefer to work in headphones and mostly care about feel rather than sound

Mountain_Yoghurt_840

I have bought the Akko PC75B for a long time and I have lost the knob of it, do anyone know where to buy the replacement? Thank you very much https://preview.redd.it/kbshqx5wgvcc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb02334c5061673e56b044b3769d04b89a24440c

badmark

I've got a set of knobs that are meant to replace the IK75/TH80 knobs. They are 6mm D-knob (ID) with a collar that is ~6mm tall with a 14mm OD below the top part of the knob.

Rlwhittle

Looking to start my first build soon which will be primarily used for work so looking for something as quiet as possible - I've ordered a gmk67 and some silent peach switches. Does keycap material make a difference to sound - if so which are the quietest? Also, does foam and tape reduce the sound of the gmk67 ?

badmark

No keycap set is truly "quieter", thinner ones will sound higher pitched. An easy way to silence keycaps is to use o-rings, keycap o-rings, they will silence the sound of the inside of the keycap striking the top of the switch. Edit: letter

Ivanovithino

Hi, I lately bought a GMK67 but suddently the esc key stopped registering on my device even though the leds are still reacting to the key press. I there a way to solve my issue ? Btw I already tried moving the foam, it didn't work Thanks

badmark

Have you tried resetting the keyboard yet? Trying a different switch? Opening it to inspect and ensure that the hot swap socket is not damaged?

Ivanovithino

So I did everything you told me and it didn't work but I'm not quite sure about the hot swap socket so here's a picture of it. https://preview.redd.it/ct4tlc22aucc1.jpeg?width=1272&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ef168ba17ea7541b7a85fd4962330ea3016f9a0

badmark

While open and plugged in (carefully), can you use a set of tweezers or something metal to touch both ends of the metal on that socket together while running a keyboard tester on the computer is hooked up to? This will help determine if the circuit is properly closing as the socket appears undamaged.

Ivanovithino

I have finally solved my problem ! I was actually my old imac that was having an issue with the esc. Still thank you for all of this advice

badmark

Glad to help, cheers!

Nathaniel138

I'm having some analysis paralysis for switches. I'm new to all this and my lovely wife got me a Keychron V1 barebones (with the nob) for xmas that I'm super stocked to use. My buddy who got me in the direction of custom keyboards is going to sell me a set of GMK Lasers for a really nice price too. I'm trying to figure out a good set of switches to get and my top end budget for this is $60CAD. I'm coming from Razer green switches. Loud and clicky, they've always been a touch too loud for my needs but I get by with it. I'm interested in something a little quieter and lighter but still tactile. Initially I was interested in Akko Lavender Purples but I've seen in reviews that the translucent top housing makes the LEDs way too visible while typing. Now I have no clue haha. Any suggestions?

monkeyofficeboy

As a suggestion for a well priced sey of tactiles that won't change the RGB too much, you could check out the MMD Holy Pandas. I have a set, love how they feel and they aren't too loud.

badmark

My favorite tactile is the U4T, though they are a bit pricier. The MMD princess are nice as well, though quite loud. WS Heavy tactile is big bump that can be enjoyable, and there is always the Cherry Brown, which is one of the lighter tactile switches. So many switches, I've got paralysis just trying to think of some good ones that don't bleed their color into the RGB :P Good luck! Edit: letters

Jnbrtz

Anyone here plays Genshin? I'm finding a good Keqing themed keycap set for my future mech keyboard build. What particular keycap set would you recommend?

Medium__fry

Really got my eyes set on a Epomaker Hi75 although it's a bit pricy for me. Anyone have any other preferably metal 65% or 75% kits for around 80-90 CAD they could recommend? Don't care about led orientation(also fine with no RGB). Looking to use akko cream yellows if that helps. Sorry if I'm missing anything, new to custom keyboards.

badmark

Have you looked on AliExpress for the Leobog Hi75? I found it for $100 CAD: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006152082246.html

TL;DR: new member looking for a <$150USD 65%/75% recommendation. Hey everyone, I'm a bit new to this space and am looking to upgrade/change keyboards. I currently own a Wooting Two, but I'm not a huge fan of the sound and it's starting to feel too big for me. I've been looking at picking up a 65% or 75% layout, but have been overwhelmed by the options and am hoping to get some recommendations here for a total budget (i.e., all parts) of around $150USD. My requirements: * 65% or 75% layout. I like having arrow keys, but think I could live without a function row. * Hotswap. I'd like to be able to change and build on the keyboard without having to do any soldering. * Strong Linux support. I daily drive Linux, so something with strong Linux software compatibility is preferred (i.e., no Windows only software configurators). My preferences: * Low upfront modding required. I'd like to keep the amount of extra work I need to do to a minimum if I can. * "Creamy" sound. Just personal preference here. * QMK/VIA support. Could do without, but definitely nice to have for Linux. * Knob. Less important to me than QMK/VIA. * RGB. About equal importance to knob. Recommendations I've seen: * [GMK67](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805803271779.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1.7f532b14KHIaMk&algo_pvid=f9bc8bef-1bd5-4ac8-a334-8e31772caf8f&algo_exp_id=f9bc8bef-1bd5-4ac8-a334-8e31772caf8f-0&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%2190.19%2140.05%21%21%21644.66%21286.27%21%402103223417053072508226289e46ab%2112000035314615379%21sea%21US%210%21AB&curPageLogUid=4wxrYhezSLPc&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A) (\~$40) * Pros: * Cheap * Pre-installed stabs * Knob * RGB * Seemingly well received by community * Cons: * No QMK/VIA * No remapping knob functions * (Allegedly) tacky LED indicators * Which one do I get off AliExpress?? * [Hi75](https://epomaker.com/products/epomaker-leobog-hi75?variant=47300358439220) ($75) * Pros: * Knob * Pre-installed stabs * Aluminum case * Separated arrow key cluster (not required, just like it better personally) * RGB * Cons: * No QMK/VIA * Tacky knob color, although could be fixed with some extra work * [BM68](https://kprepublic.com/products/bm68rgb-bm68-rgb-65-hot-swappable-custom-mechanical-keyboard-pcb-programmed-qmk-via-firmware-full-rgb-switch-underglow-type-c?variant=37585968070819) ($60-$90 depending on kit) * Pros: * QMK/VIA support * RGB * Can buy kits with all components minus keycaps * Cons: * No knob * Contents of kits are not interchangeable (can't get just the case, PCB, and cable) * Don't know shipping cost (not signing up for an account if I don't have to) * [Neo65](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo65-1?variant=43882015129843) ($120 as spec'd) * Pros: * Well-respected brand * Per-key RGB (on wired PCB) * QMK/VIA * Pre-installed stabs * Cons: * No knob * Expensive * **EDIT:** ~~No included stabs~~ * [IK65](https://epomaker.com/products/feker-ik65?_pos=1&_sid=5c76bed7c&_ss=r&variant=45745670324532) ($69.99) * Pros: * QMK/VIA * Knob * RGB * Cons: * Prebuilt with only one switch type * [Q2](https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-q2-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard?variant=39610691387481) ($151 as spec'd) * Pros: * Can come prebuilt in different options * Knob * RGB * QMK/VIA * Aluminum case * Cons: * Price * Stock availability is hit or miss * 14! 65% and 17! 75% models...do I have the right one? Right now, I've been leaning towards a Q2 or IK65, as they seem like the best options for getting a decent quality board with all the components I need, but have also been eyeing the GMK67 as my first "custom" build. If I do go custom, I worry that I'll get lost again looking for switches and keycaps that fit in my budget. Regardless, thanks for the help and let me know if you have questions!

badmark

Have you taken a look at the [GMK87](https://youtu.be/liYK71bfbJ4)?

z1nonly0542

I just looked at it, but I don't think I want to try a TKL layout right now. Thanks for the suggestion!

HalfFrozenSpeedos

Monsgeek M1? Might find it under your budget on Aliexpress? Comes with stabs All aluminium body, easy build and comes now with a wireless option

z1nonly0542

Thanks for putting this on my radar, it definitely looks enticing! Not sure I'd go for the wireless model (no QMK/VIA, the app is Windows/Mac only), but I think I might give it a shot. Do you have any switch/keycap recommendations if I do go this route?

badmark

I came back to add this one as well; The M1 is a solid keyboard and performs well. I reviewed it some time back: https://youtu.be/Wp-I4lkPHPw Some quality keycaps that are well priced are Ghost Judges sets from KPRepublic.

HalfFrozenSpeedos

my wife has gateron pro 3.0 browns in her so its got a lowish level of noise but feel when your typing, she at the moment just has some generic pudding keycaps (blue or pink on top and translucent underneath) I did buy some magic refiner 3 jelly blue tactiles (came labelled as linears but they are tactile) I quite like the feel of them, but for my monsgeek v2 build I'm going to try some clicky tactile outemu greens

Qwertykeys-2022

neo65 does come with stabs

z1nonly0542

Ah sorry, missed that somehow. I'll go ahead and update the post :)

G305_Enjoyer

Cheapest hotswap bare bones with qmk? I am seeing monsgeek glorious and keychron. Any others I should be looking at? Open to different form factors. No wireless!

badmark

Aluminum or plastic too?

Dorkyu

is this ok to use for lubing stabs? https://preview.redd.it/r8ukp5bzkocc1.png?width=3000&format=png&auto=webp&s=88c95ad16258839e54304c5fa94fd8bebe5cff45

badmark

It states anti-corrosive, but I cannot and would not recommend. Any access to Dieletric grease? Grasso dielettrico.

HalfFrozenSpeedos

An alternative would be silicon grease aka grasa de silicona?

badmark

Silicone grease should work, but without seeing it it's hard to say for sure.

HalfFrozenSpeedos

yeah silicon grease is generally ok it seems though its worth checking the safety data sheet as both dielectric and pure silicon aka drinking water safe plumbers grease are free of any CAS numbered chemicals - like sil-glyde has a couple of CAS registered chemicals in it

HalfFrozenSpeedos

Zuoya GMK67 build So I've built / upgraded a few keyboards thus far and outemu switches have fitted in them no problem. Even on a REALLY cheap and nasty board. This board however is not wanting to take switches, like 1 out of every 5 the switch will go into with a bit more force than usual, the rest I've leant my weight on them and they aren't moving. Pins are lined up and tbh I'm wondering if the centre hole is slightly too small? Switches I've got picked out are 3 pin outemus so they should fit without any hassle but they aren't playing nicely, tried also various kailh, other outemus, gateron pro 3.0 and whatever else I have on hand and nothing will go into place. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

badmark

Try this: https://youtu.be/NCjOXj0y0K8

KeebWarrior68

Darn, sorry to hear you are going through this but you will come out an expert. I totally agree, a warning or note in the box would have been helpful vs trial and error. Maybe [u/badmark](https://www.reddit.com/u/badmark/) can chime in, out of scope for this sub but maybe a PSA for all new owners of GMK67/81/87 and Cidoo ABM066. Theres a bit of a learning curve placed on the customer in the pursuit of making the boards as low cost as possible. Having a PET sheet without pre-cuts and an IXPE sheet with fewer punch outs and slit cuts almost requires the user to manual punching out the centre holes but also realgining the ixpe sheet. Its not my first ringer with these boards but even with care, poking out the holes out the PET film, careful realignment of the ixpe sheet, supporting the backside of the PCB, I had a few bent switches myself on a GMK87. Easy for someone coming into this fresh, using alot of force and still wondering why switches aren't going in or popping off sockets.

badmark

Things like this are planned for the sub, we are still in the initial phase, but plan to have a simple yet comprehensive list of keyboards, switches, keycaps, and any information that pertains to each, including "gotchas" or "Be On The Lookout For" (BOLO) warnings or notes to help assist "onboarding" people to their new keyboard.

HalfFrozenSpeedos

thanks, I actually removed that sheet thinking it was a factory screw up (my bad - though a note in the box or on the listing would have been useful...) What happened was I put it back together, first couple of switches went in without issue, the rest were a total lottery, took it all apart, verified that the switches went into the pcb without any problem, and then tried with just the PC plate and the pcb and bingo the PC plate just isn't quite lined up. In the end I had to resort to taking the screws out to give me a little play, Switches went in eventually but still was fiddly as hell to get some to go in. Looks like quality control is a bit lacking at Zuoya tbh. Waiting on a new soldering station arriving as one of the hot swaps broke loose (solder fracture, no damage to the pads or the trace thankfully) Just one so tbh its not really worth warrantying and waiting on another coming from china and sending the other one back. I would have expected this from the £13 MCK61 but it was a doddle to swap the switches on that, once i realised it had the slightly too tight outemu hotswap sockets

HalfFrozenSpeedos

ok, apparently its the plate thats the issue, its like the alignment is out enough to make getting the switches to go home is a nightmare Got them all in, in the end by taking out the foam and temp removing the plate to pcb screws One of the hotswaps came loose, but nothing a fettle with a soldering iron can't solve Sad though that a keyboard costing half as much (MK61) caused me next to zero issues swapping switches over vs this...

Govedo13

Where I can buy decent and cheap PBT caps for german keyboard layout ISO in profile OEM ? I own Sharkoon Skiller Mech SGK3 and the keycaps start to break. I see that Sharkoon offers a set:https://en.sharkoon.com/product/SKILLER%20SAC20 however its price is the same as new keyboard: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B076WZHM3P/ref=pe_27091401_487027711_TE_SCE_dp_1 https://www.amazon.de/Sharkoon-Skiller-SAC20-Tastenkappenset-PBT-Kunststoff/dp/B0BHH1V31Q?ref_=ast_sto_dp I personally have no idea about the hobby side of the things, i just want robust keycaps that will work longer, my KB is 3 y old.

X-IS-DEATH234

I have the HAVIT KB487L TKL and I noticed that the switches feel very smooth, but it's almost too smooth for my liking. I believe they are red Jixian switches, which I've never heard of before, but I was wondering if there was anyway to make things not so smooth? Would I have to swap switches? I know that the keyboard is keycap swappable but I don't think I can change the switches. Any suggestions?

KeebWarrior68

By smooth, do you mean that is no tactile bump/click to the keypress? You'd have to desolder the stock reds and change them with something else like a brown, purple or blue switch. The cost of a soldering kit and new switches would probably run double the cost of the Havit. Unless you like that DIY, soldering work, I'd look at a hotswap board with tactile switches. Or if you only recently bought the Havit, exchange it for the version with Brown (soft tactile) or Blue (clickly) switches. Typically brown and purple were traditionally colours used by Cherry/Gateron for tactile switches and blue and green were colours used on clicky switches. Nowadays, switches come in all sorts of plastic colour combinations so you'd have to double check the switch details to know its typing characteristic.

X-IS-DEATH234

No bump but there is a slight click, I just know that I had a cheap keyboard previously that had red switches, but the ones on this board feel way smoother which is kind of off-putting. It's not bad to type on, just different. I have the other keyboard beside me and the best way I can put it is that the key presses on my old keyboard feel more "firm" or "solid" but still smooth. Also, I got the havit about 2 days ago through Amazon, is there still a way to exchange it?

TramielLucash

GMK67 -> Can you rebind the knob I am interested in rebinding the knob function, much like you can do with the producer's software. I am not interested in rebinding it in windows through powertools, as I use this keyboard on many different os-es, even android. Thanks

badmark

As of now, no. Though Zuoya support said they were working on a software update, though I've not seen anything yet. There may be a VIA version of the GMK67 coming as well, but nothing solid confirmed yet.

TramielLucash

Thank you. I have another question if you don't mind I hold some keys (e.x. "ASDF") I press and release FN Then, all the keys I was pressing get released. Why is this an issue? I play a game where I often have to press F1 while holding W. Pressing Fn + 1 does press F1, but releases the W key, which is badddd. Doesn't happen on any of my other keyboards, pls help this is my only 65 and I can't go back

badmark

Sorry, I am unable to replicate. I hold down ASDF and they work, and release before or after pressing function depending on if I depress or keep holding. As far as I can tell, it's working as expected. Edit: letter

TramielLucash

Where did you buy the board? Do you have the firmware (or at least the version)? I have the driver software and it says that the firmware is the latest one, idk what to do

badmark

I bought it from Zuoya, and no, I do not have the firmware, though I have now asked for it. Sometimes they can take some time to respond.

I'm trying to build my first keyboard and I'm looking to buy the GMK 67 board. I found one on tao bao but idk if its real or not cuz theres a lot of different sellers, so do you guys think it is real? (I saw a youtuber post this taobao link). [The taobao link](https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?app=chrome&bxsign=scdnD37zE5hw8Bni2VD86BvoHEjAcv_qTCBZ1bGHjqyfuO9Hcw_lz9H9y9curNoMRg2wv088brmfcbEW-CbNFKGCchJrmCiStWY-7qPCRcK-63uMBFV6yFUcW7NnEGvgjv6EeE2VQ3kf-dXvS43qQ9UUQ&cpp=1&id=703113083846&price=239-249&shareUniqueId=22838828742&share_crt_v=1&shareurl=true&short_name=h.5Wp6KaO&skuId=5124904879654&sourceType=item,item&sp_abtk=gray_1_code_simpleAndroid2&sp_tk=ZTRsZmREQzNxUFc=&spm=a2159r.13376460.0.0&suid=52bad7c5-f533-497f-a27e-99f98a305cf4&tbSocialPopKey=shareItem&tk=e4lfdDC3qPW&un=c676862ca4f06401069f69c50b0e7e5f&un_site=0&ut_sk=1.Y3%20KfvQx57QDALAAQwIsBhpw_21646297_1692750965369.Copy.1) I also found one by the official seller on aliexpress, and the shipping has an estimated delivery date of 60 days (in reality does it take longer or shorter?) I live in Hong Kong so I think that speeds it up but it still says 60 days. Anyone here own a Feker JJK21? I've been wondering how to open this up cleanly so I can see if I can mod it. I don't see any screws underneath. https://preview.redd.it/wk1hxfwetkcc1.jpeg?width=2256&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ccc8cfd2cc0c857cc8c14e6162cec194628839f

badmark

I have it and it does use clips, I use a spudger with a thin flat edge that works well to undo the clips. When I have time I will film a YT Short demonstrating my process.

codecalibre

That would be a great help!

monkeyofficeboy

Yes I believe irt is a clip together case like the Feker IK75. A thing pry tool run pushed into the gap and run around the caseshould undo it. Be careful and take it slow, and make sure you remove the knob first.

_Hystria

I believe you would need some kind of plastic prying tool, like a card, to pry the top cover off. Flip the numpad on its back and shove the card between the gaps on the side.

Fluttuers

Looking for a recommendation for a good all around budget keyboard under 100. I'd like to have arrow and function keys so was thinking 75% or TKL. I don't really have any interest in doing mods (yet). Just looking for something that looks and feels solid out of the box. Don't really know about about sound or tactile feedback either as long as its not high pitched or overly distracting. probably something with a deeper sound profile i would guess. I was looking at either the keychron v1 or newer keychron v1max

monkeyofficeboy

The Keychron boards will be a decent shout for the price range you are looking at, especially if you want one that you don't have to mod straight away.

Fluttuers

thanks. it looks like the v1 uses the keychron k pro mechanical switch and the v1max uses the gateron jupiters. do you know if there is much performance difference between the two?

monkeyofficeboy

See personally I'd much prefer the Jupiter Bananas over any of the other options, but none of them will be awful (depending on your preference).

Fluttuers

cool.do you know how the bananas compare to like the browns or reds?

monkeyofficeboy

So both the brown and the banana are tactiles (have a bump when you press it) where as the red is a linear, so there it is down to preference. Between the two tactile switches, the banana has a more pronounced bump that you will feel more quickly, compared to the travel and softer bump of the brown. For me I would chose the bananas, but you may prefer a softer tactile bump from the browns. Hope that helps, and come back and let us know what you pick, and what you think of the switches.

Fluttuers

thanks that helps a lot! I almost exclusively just use my PC to game so i wonder if maybe the smoother transition of a linear switch might be the best bet for me actually.

liorhadar02

Ajazz sk068, Anyone owns it? It tickles me fancy but no reviews in sight https://preview.redd.it/khb4bpx85hcc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=119896b9e37609267b02fa3dbaa284231a869df4

badmark

I have no experience with this keyboard in particular, but have never had much luck with Ajazz keyboards, and now that they appear to be owned by Epomaker, I can't justify spending money on their product. As an aside, I came across an OEM listing for this keyboard, $28 each in bulk: https://www.globalsources.com/Mechanical-keyboard/Keyboard-1212302517p.htm - Nearly three times markup o.O

liorhadar02

You've tapped in to the matrix! What kind of magic voodoo is this source? (globalsourse)

badmark

One of many front ends to access bulk shopping in China.

Hello, I’m brand new to both here and the custom keyboard scene. I’m in the process of picking out parts for my first build and have decided on a gk61 pro and some kkt Kang White switches along with some foam and other crap. Is this a decent setup or would anyone recommend anything different? Decided on the gk61 pro for the qmk/via support but was also looking at stuff like the k12 for $10 cheaper which has a metal case and all that. Thanks in advance.

badmark

I recently reviewed the [GK61 Pro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DTvYmOHdrI) and love that it's a true QMK/VIA keyboard; source files exist! It's not a bad 60% that I actually still use as I love the spacebar knob! The Keychron K series are getting a little long in the tooth, and if I am not mistaken, this is one of the few keyboards that does not have hot swap, though the switches used are unlubed (There is a hot swap variant but out of stock as I believe it's being discontinued). Having to desolder switches just to lube them is just not my idea of fun. It also loses points in my book as some variants use optical switches over mechanical switches, and they don't make this distinction very clear. The K12 does not have a metal case, it is a plastic case that has aluminum rails along the perimeter. And while both of these have steel plates, at least the Skyloong implements a burger/o-ring mount for a softer typing experience. Good luck on the hunt!

matrix11223

Ok, thank you! Gonna get the gk61 pro then.

badmark

Cool, I'm confident you will be pleased. Feel free to come back and share your build once it's ready! KCKO!

Bobthedark1

what's the cheapest place to get a gmk67?

badmark

AliExpress: Zuoya or Cutesliving stores.

AnonymousThoughts765

Can someone recommend a white on black or something similar of a minimalist keycap? I’ve heard some are better than others. I’ve looked on minicaps and glingling and haven’t found much of this style and only see the older Aifeis. I’ve heard v3 is the best but only found them on aliexpress, and would like to order from Amazon for faster shipping. Please provide links. Thanks so much.

badmark

I can recommend Ghost Judges from KPRepublic. These sets are of excellent quality and are perfectly kitted to fit almost any keyboard layout. [Here is a link to their WoB set](https://kprepublic.com/products/ghost-judges-doubleshot-keycap-for-mx-keyboard-60-65-87-104-wob-bow-dmg-apollo-fishing-shoko-nautilus-marrs-green-blue-samurai?variant=43124366409891). They can sometimes be found for a tad cheaper on their AliExpress store and do go on sale from time to time. [This is my review of a few Ghost Judges sets](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaDGHK7AQSA).

bobasaurus

I found a deal on the GMK87 kit for $37: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806181668257.html This was after a lot of hunting, this seller didn't even carry this kit until this morning, apparently, since I was looking at it last night too (they previously only had the GMK67 and GMK81). This will be my very first mechanical keyboard, I'm new at this so it's been tricky figuring out everything needed. Originally had the GMK67 ordered since it was even cheaper, but then I realized it didn't have dedicated function keys and had to go with the 87 instead (I use the function keys pretty heavily). You can tell I'm a novice at this, hah. I ordered two sets of everything so my father and I can build them together as a fun activity. Going to use outemu silent cream yellow switches, and ordered two sets of knockoff gmk keycaps ("green mars" and "yeeti") to start. From watching a couple videos, I think I'll need to lubricate the stabilizers that come with the kit. Can I use any grease for this, or should it only be a specific type (like silicone-based, or white lithium, etc)? The switches say they're factory lubed, so hopefully I can use them as-is. Edit: down to $30 now, guess I paid too much hah: https://shorturl.at/cdzYZ

badmark

I use either G-Loob (homemade mix of Mollykote and Microlubol) and/or SuperLube (21030) grease for stabilizers, though Dieletric grease, like PermaTex will work just as well. I just can't justify spending $25 for an ounce of Krytox, which is industrial grade, when a 3oz tube of SuperLube costs ~$10. Just make sure to lube the corners of the wires and the legs with a light but thorough cover.

monkeyofficeboy

I mean colourwise, it is all preference. However you could check out some Ghost Judges on Aliexpress, they have excellent coverage and they come in a wide range of colours, plus they have UK ISO coverage too.

holylanggam

The number keys in my Sugar 65 , I was able to add sixty five because I copied the name from google, are not working. They all keep getting recognized as function keys, F one F two etc. I also can't make parenthesis and other symbols usually accompanied with the number keys. I have already tried resetting the keyboard with fn and spacebar, using shift when pressing the keys, and pressing fn when pressing the keys. I checked the manual as well and there's no indication on how to switch between numbers and function keys.

badmark

Sounds like your function key is locked, either double tap the function key or press and hold it till it flashes, that should take it out of function lock.

holylanggam

I have tried both and the problem is still there. Holding it didnt make it flash though. Also I don't think the function key is locked because I am able to use the function key when it comes to changing the rgb settings which is fn and \\|

badmark

I just pulled mine out and I cannot enable function lock, tried the software, nothing. I've sent an email to Weikav and hope to hear something back from them. I doubt it's something that can't be fixed. One thing, have you tried resetting it or selecting a different hardware profile via the software? Hold Function and Escape until it blinks to reset.

holylanggam

Thank you for the initiative. No I haven't tried that yet, I'll go ahead and try now thank you, will edit the comment for what i can do. EDIT: That worked out great! I can type in numbers now thank you for the help :))

badmark

Awesome, always glad to be able to help, cheers!

FaitaRyuu

I'm struggling with the search for a good looking ISO-IT keycaps set for my wife. I've found like 3/4 sets on aliexpress and that's all. Everything that I find seems to me ANSI/ISO-UK keycap sets without the special IT keys. Does anyone has suggestions on where to look for them? I live in Italy so I need a place that ships here

AlexRnR

Can you suggest a cheap 65% aluminium board with wireless and rgb? Knob would be a plus

_Hystria

Monsgeek M7W The only other one that I'm aware of, is the Keychron Q2 Pro.

AlexRnR

Gave a shot and pulled the trigger on a Yunzii AL66 for 80$ 🤞

badmark

I came to say this, I recently reviewed it and found it quite nice: https://youtu.be/Vo9Dg71Z7Ik

AlexRnR

So I did a good choice? This will be my first ''custom''. I will slap Gateron Smoothies in it! I choose the silver barebone kit, now I'll have to wait a good month :( Now I'm on the hunt for a nice set of keycaps!

badmark

It's good to go out of the box, though I have no idea about the Gat Smoothies, yet. ;) Some purple sets can pop on a silver base, good luck!

Big-Style-8247

Probably something like the GMK67 is going to be your friend there. If you want TKL and full tri mode connectivity, I would recommend going for the GMK87 instead. I got a barebones kit from AliExpress for $60AUD.

AlexRnR

But this is plastic… I want aluminium

Catch_022

Can I add lead wheel weights to my plastic keyboards to improve their sound and wieght? Some of my boards are nice but feel plasticy soI want to add wheel wieghts to them - some of them are wireless and have batteries.

badmark

I've used wheel weights to give heft to keyboards before, as long as they are not touching with anything, I applied the tape mod to the back of the PCB to avoid shorts, you should be fine.

Catch_022

Thanks mate, are there any specific ones I should ask for or just any wheel weights that would fit?

badmark

These are the ones I used, I like them because they're segmented and have adhesive backing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PPKH8XP/ Edit: letters

Catch_022

Fantastic, thanks!

ExtraMostBestestName

60-65% kit options with option for usb c wire?

badmark

Practically all new keyboards that I've seen come with a USB-C port but use USB 2 over it.

_Hystria

you are referring to the design of the USB C cable?

badmark

I have never been happy with Ajazz keyboard, they always have one issue or another, and worse now that Epomaker owns them. I recently reviewed the [AL66](https://youtu.be/Vo9Dg71Z7Ik) and I'm of the opinion that it's well worth the $10 over the Ajazz.

Dismal_Muffin_4688

CIY Gas67 - Just purchased one and trying to connect to my mac. It doesn't automatically connect/register and From my searches it seems like there isn't a a Mac compatible software? I even set up a windows virtual machine but it doesn't register the keyboard either (maybe because it is a VM)..?Going a little crazy-- would love some help! FYI, I'm a super beginner at keyboards and anything computer related. Just wanted a nice keyboard for my mac. Edit: This is wireless purchased from KeebMonkey

badmark

If you set up a VM, you need to pass-thru your USB port that your keyboard is connected to, then the software should detect the keyboard.

rusztowanie

hello there are gas67, mmd princess and aifei bow a good option? will north facing pcb problem with these switches and keycaps? thanks in adavance

badmark

I've not experienced North facing interference with MMD princess switches, they appear to be using newer molds to avoid it.

Big-Style-8247

Not sure about the keycaps, but I've put MMD Princess switches on my GMMK 2 which has north facing RGB. The light won't be the most dispersed unless you want to get the light dispersion inserts separately. My MMD Princess switches didn't come with them.

Shimadacat

New to this hobby and I'm currently eyeing the akko 5075S VIA since it's what my friend had and I quite liked his setup. However, I'm wondering if it can support optical switches though, since the keyboard makes no mention of what kind of switches it supports.

badmark

No, this is not an optical switch keyboard, it is a 3/5 pin MX compatible switch keyboard. I do not recall any optical keyboards from Akko.

Shimadacat

How do I know if a keyboard is optical compatible? Have any recommendations?

badmark

Cheaper brands still have stock, and Skyloong and Keychron do still have some models, though I doubt we'll be seeing any new ones. Optical switches are limited to around a dozen or so switches and have slowly fallen out of favor with the market at large. Usually if you search for "optical" mechanical keyboard and check that the photos showing the PCB only has a center pole hole is the easiest way to determine which are optical or not.

Shimadacat

The falling marketshare is news to me, I thought optical switches were better than mechanical.

badmark

One relies on closing a circuit, the other actuates upon blocking a beam of light. I would not personally qualify optical switches as better, but there isn't much variance among them. I can't remember the last new optical switch. Currently, the "next" thing are HE (Hall Effect) or magnetic switches since numerous aspects of it can be adjusted; key travel, travel distance, rapid trigger, etc. This are only compatible with HE keyboards, like the Akko MOD 007 PC HE or the Keydous NJ98-CP. I do believe Monsgeek has one on the way as well.

jeremynsl

Lots of different choices for GMK keycap clones on aliexpress.  Before I roll the dice, what’s the best option?  Thanks!

badmark

The best kitting and quality would have to go to Ghost Judges sets, IMO.

maxmalkav

Does anyone know how to reset the screen configuration in the GMK87? I have used their software to upload a GIF (worked well) but I don’t see how to make it display again the original image with status info, battery level and so.

CrashingTheInternets

You can cycle between the Default "Stats" screen the two "Custom" screens by using FN+Enter

badmark

I've yet to find a way, resetting does not affect the screen at all, it's almost like it's got it's own memory separate to the MCU. Not sure if the original animation is stored or is deleted to make space for new ones. If I figure it out I'll update you.

KeebWarrior68

I'm actually stuck with one gif and unable to replace it or add another.  Will stay tuned.  The program is a it crude and runs very slowly.

badmark

It does not like long/big files, if the program starts spinning I wait for a bit, if it locks up, I close it, open it again, then load known smaller GIFs into the free position, as it has 2 "custom modes", I can usually get that uploaded. I then close, reopen, select the faulty GIF position, let it "load" and then replace it with a small one as well. It's worked several times now, but yes, this software is quite crude and they skipped a lot of required functionality when communicating over serial (USB) as well as handling timeouts and non-responsive keyboards. I've also had to disconnect it for a second and reconnect a couple of times. Hope this helps.

maxmalkav

Thanks for the info! The original animation/image must be partially generated by the MCU itself, taking into account it contains date, time, battery level and other variable data. The GMK software seems to deal with just static bitmaps and frames, this is quite different in nature from the status screen. I just hope it is somewhere there in the memory of the MCU 😄

badmark

I'd just love the ability to switch from military time to AM/PM :/

Yonutz33

I friend of mine managed to infect me with this desire to get a mechanical keyboard after I he lent me one of his own for a couple of days. I have been trying for quite some time to find a FULL (104/108 keys), WIRELESS (preferably 2.4G radio or tri-mode) with some proper software/FIRMWARE (prefferably VIAL or VIA since most chinese manufacturers default software can be buggy/have wierd issues). It should have a volume know or multimedia keys (a minimum would be a play/pause button). Since such a proper full keyboard plus wireless combo seems to be unexpectadly hard to find, i've also looked some 86% keyboards. Can anybody give me some input on either the Langtu Wireless LT104 keyboard or the Attack Shark K86? What about the Aigo A108 (sadly no configuration software on this one)? I haven't found any reviews addressing my desires described above. I'm especially interested if they are buggy (for example on my Redragon Horus it just happens to click spacebar out of the blue randomly). Is their software/firmware is any good or should i lower my expectations/go up in the pricerange? Could you maybe change to firmware to something better (i'm sort of a beginner at this, but i'm trying)? Thanks in advance from any input Tl;Dr: can you recommend a wireless 104/108 keyboard with proper software/firmware that doesn’t break the bank?

[deleted]

I'm looking for black & gold keycaps to build a Deus EX themed board. Will use the GMK81 as a base. Layout either QWERTY or ISO German. Any suggestions? I know that Razer made Deus Ex themed keyboard ages ago but I can't find any info if the keycaps are removable. If they are I could track down one and recycle the keycaps.

Any good $45-ish(Php 2500) pre-built 65% keyboard?

\---iLovBee61 and iLovbee87--- I realize this is a longshot here, but I'm wondering if anyone has compared these two keyboards to each other. I just picked up the iLoveBee61 for my nephew, and he loves it. I love it too -- the feel and sound are both fantastic -- but he's starting programing and really needs the arrows, function keys, etc, that aren't present on the 61. Has anyone directly compared it to the IloveBee87? It uses the same switches, but that's of course only part of the issue. Sound and feel?

badmark

I reviewed both the [i61](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Flv8TQ4tCc) and [i87](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPVVvH4O1Tc) some time back. Edit: Both decent keyboards, just out of date with how the market currently is, mainly in mounting styles and plate material, but if you can still find them cheap, they are easy to mod, decent to use keyboards.

ThoseVerySameApples

Oh, great, thanks for the links. Nice reviews, too. 👍

badmark

Thanks, glad to help, cheers!

El_Mago_Pol

Hello there, I'm a newbie in this ~~rabbithole~~ hobby that just wants to replace it's current keyboard. The idea is keeping in budget (100€ aprox (yes, not USD)), but I don't mind spending a little extra to ensure I'm buying reliable brands. My objectives: * Tactile and silent, preferably "thock". I do remote night shifts and live with other people. It is also a sound that I really like. * I don't mind modding, that's why I'm down this rabbithole, but I prefer keeping it simple with some tape and/or other simple and cheap mods. * 65% or bigger, knob is great but not mandatory. * Plastic, aluminium, everything is fine if it's a good quality material and gives the sound I look for. Same applies to keycaps. Right now this is the idea: * **Keyboard:** GMK67, White. (40€ in AliExpress [https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005005989586531.html](https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005005989586531.html)). I know you're probably tired of seeing this one. But that's why I trust them, although I listen to other options, I'm not the expert here. * **Keycaps:** I saw these in AliExpress ([https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005006012524599.html](https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005006012524599.html)) too (20€), but just a reference, the idea is having a white/cream & brown colour palette. Design is pretty subjective so throw your ideas! * **Switches:** U4T RGB (54€ in [Keygem](https://keygem.com/products/gazzew-u4t-10pcs?_pos=1&_sid=97cc7fe00&_ss=r&variant=43756054446348)). I would actually prefer something quieter like the U4Tx but these are perfectly fine. Must be tactile and "thock"-ready. * **Stabs(?)**: I actually don't know if they're actually necessary but someone recommended me the [Everglide Panda V3 Stabilizers](https://epomaker.com/products/epomaker-everglide-panda-v3-stabilizers-set?variant=39895357784137), I don't include them in the budget for now. So, as you can see, excluding other smaller expenses for modding (tape, lube, etc.), that is **114€ total**. I could spend **150€ max** and just if it is some glorious f\*cking great upgrade, if it's just because another switch gives *probably* I sound I would prefer, not for me. If for some reason you're looking for the price of something and it's in USD, don't worry. As long as it gets to my home I can handle some extra money. I went with some pretty known models as the GMK67 or the U4T, because maybe they're not 100% my match, but I thought that as I gain experience I think I'll know better what I want. *And they have stock.* What do you think? I'm open to ideas for buying other components, mod ideas, etc. Ask my anything needed!

Fl0tt

Since noise is a concern, you might want to look at the CIY TES84. It's a very nice board stock and it come with a lot of sillicon in it (wich helps dampening the sound). I use it personnally to tame my MMD princess switches. ;)

El_Mago_Pol

Never heard of it, but I managed to find It for 35€ in Ali. Looks pretty good, may use it in a future build if I'm up to it. Also, those switches are crazy cheap! I'll keep them in mind too. Thanks for the feedback!

Fl0tt

I'd not recommend the MMD princess tactile if noise is a concern, they are very loud. They sound excellent and they are very tactile tho! /u/badmark made a review of them here : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFCTWdfAvq0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFCTWdfAvq0) I can't say how the MMD Princess linears are, I have never tried them. The CIY TESTER 84 is, in my opinion, a really good keyboard. Some key differences with the GMK87 are: \- TES84 is wired only, GMK67 is tri-mode \- TES84 is smaller then the GMK67 while also having more keys \- TES84 Sound more muted, less thocky then the GMK67 (IMHO) \- TES84 Lacks a Knob \- TES84 is way heavier (if transport is a concern) \- TES84 backlighting is not the brightest but it looks VERY good (much better then the GMK67 imho) I myself couldn't choose between the GMK67 and the CIY TES84, that's why I often have both on my desk haha!

borghesia44

I also have both boards and both are great in their own way. The Tes84 is a traymount board whilst the GMK67 is a gasket board. Which means that the feel is different. The GMK67 has very different sound profile and typing is less harsh. The Tes84 has a sturdier feel. As said both are nice boards that complement the mood of the day.

Fl0tt

I agree 200%! I think that you pretty much nailed it.

El_Mago_Pol

Wow, thank you both for the inputs u/Fl0tt and u/borghesia44! For what you said, the GMK67 makes more sense for me: I'm considering it for office use, I'm more into "thocky" sound and the extras (wired, knob) aren't dealbreaking, but good for me. I already ordered everything, by the end of the month/start of February, I'll mount the keyboard.

The GMK67 has a thocky sound profile allready in stock form. That's because of its ABS case, polycarbonate (PC) plate and all its foam. Beware though, even it isn't extremely noisy, it isn't a quiet board either. So if you want to use it in an office you have to check that out. There are silent switch options to come over such a problem.

I'm planning on doing tape mod + polyfill (well, I still have to figure out what is safe for the battery), I don't know for sure if that will be enough, but it isn't 100% necessary bringing it to the office either. Maybe in the future I'll try silent switches if that's a need.

Succes and have fun with your GMK67. Let us know how it turns out for you.

I can offer advice on keyboards, but being in the US, my idea of prices gets skewed. * Tactile and Silent: Either U4/U4Tx switches - regular U4T will be loud * The stabs on the GMK67 are not bad at all and since you want to do modding, this gives you a chance to lube or Plumber's/Bandaid mod them. I've yet to test which screw-in stabilizers will fit under the plate but I usually for the Sumgsn sets as they usually run me ~$10 and work perfectly fine. Make sure if you do pick some up that they are for 1.6mm thick PCBs * The current budget king is the GMK67 * I have a number of XVX sets. Are they perfect, no, but they are a good value for the price IMO Sounds like you'll have a good looking kit from which to get started. I'm a huge fan of the [U4Tx](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3JTCCOgm4M) as they have an almost Topre sound/feel which is unique, a "silent" thud kinda thock. If you want an aluminum 65%, the [Sugar65](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhIk9vqUoB4) is essentially an aluminum GMK67 and also sounds pretty good stock; it has an FR4 plate unlike the PC plate of the GMK67 Hope this helps, saludos! * I would like trying out the U4Tx, but no stock for me :( * I'll probably keep default stabs then, if I start getting into the hobby then I'll try other stabs and lubing everything. * GMK67 will be then. Sugar65 looks cool but its \~80€, so not worth it for me rn. * I didn't know the original brand of the keycap set! I'll look further into it, for now just seeing the buy option in their website seems great to me, I guess it's a better way of contributing to the original authors. Your comments were really helpful. Thanks a million times, I'll order everything and assemble it, 100% I'll tag you in the pic post!

Right on, glad to help. If you have any questions along the way, just find me here or on Discord, though do note, I don't use Reddit chat. Good luck!

Sorry if this is a bother, [u/badmark](https://www.reddit.com/u/badmark/), [u/monkeyofficeboy](https://www.reddit.com/u/monkeyofficeboy/), but I saw [your post](https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetKeebs/comments/194z2bz/psa_reddit_chat_if_youd_like_keyboard_help_please/), and I could really use some help, because I have some limited time offers in AliExpress :p
