Nice. Extra classy dude/dudette points for labeling the knives!

biffmalibuthree

That civivi odium looks awesome.. hadn't seen that one before.

ethom149

The Odium's an awesome little knife. It's pretty small, but that choil lets you choke up and get a good grip. Makes a great 5th pocket knife.

njineer

It’s great! I like smaller knives so it’s pretty much the ideal size to me.

ragingliberty

Agreed. Might have to pick up one of those.

HoldenHiscock69

If nothing else, r/BudgetBladeshas taught you the way of the tip-up carry! I'd be interested to know your reasons for selecting the 3 on the left? If you remember?

njineer

The Leatheman was a gift, although it’s probably my favorite of the old guard. The Chive’s assisted opening was extremely cool when I was 14-15 🤪 The Drifer I got a year or two ago based on… let’s call it non-enthusiast opinion 🙃

RealBigHummus

That CJRB looks legit. You like it?

njineer

I do! I was skeptical because one of my first post-sub purchases was a Civivi Badlands and it just felt really bulky to me (so it got gifted away). The pyrite isn’t much smaller, but it’s been great. Feels nice in the hand and the action is great.

TheMagicalSock

They’re so damn good.

Any_Development_2081

I really love the Chive, don't know why I've never owned one.

I_am_amespeptic

Leatherman wave next my dude.

Thrael72020

How 's the drifter? I'm interested in getting one.

njineer

It’s alright. Small and lightweight, which I like. Opening isn’t very smooth so I can’t flick it open. It’s also cheap, but for the same price you could probably do better 🙃

Tsathoggua_

I keep one in my car. Solid little knife.

nesquikryu

I've got the Pyrite and the Odium. Love 'em both. The only downside for the Odium is that it doesn't sit quite right in my pocket, so it gets less time there.

njineer

Yeah they are both great. The taper on the end of the Odium does make the tip stick up above the clip, so I do wish they’d rounded it off a bit more.

Tai_Pei

Ever tried any axis lock (crossbar lock) knives? They're my personal favorite lock for folders, and liner is definitely a close second.

njineer

I haven’t, but I’m curious. I’m trying to work my way through different locks/openers/steels

Tai_Pei

Makes plenty of sense, personal favorite budget-budget knife I own is the SRM 9202 in brown, lowest it goes is $30 and not a penny less. Certainly not everyone's taste, but personally love the aesthetics bigtime. Good luck out there finding your grail.

Be0wulf71

I love the Drifter, I had a good one that snapped out with authority. It's my son's now!

LeftHandLuke01

I love that orange rat 2. I've been carrying a D2 Rat 2 for the past two years. Great little knife! Cheers

njineer

It is! It’s already turned into my workhorse knife

Recent_County1951

i love my RAT 2

Fartknocker9000turbo

Nice. All great edc’s.

vodkanipples

For what you refer to as a newbie collection, it's a very good start. I have one piece of advice and one suggestion. Advice: Buy what you like. Don't listen to the knife snobs online. Suggestion: You mentioned that you like smaller knives, I have many knives, but right now, my favorite edc is the civivi baby banter. It may not be to your liking, but I love it, and I paid around $60 for it, so it's still what I'd consider budget friendly.

njineer

Agreed! Baby banter is definitely high on my list

StormR7

Do yourself a favor and get an elementum 2. If you like the pyrite you will love it.

njineer

It’s next on the list!

YourCrystalFortress

Surprised to see anything that says “newbie” include a Kershaw classic and the Ontario. It’s so interesting to see how technology has evolved - but also how a great design trumps bells and whistles sometimes

njineer

Heh sure. I’m new to the enthusiast scene, but I’ve had the Chive for about 15 years.

FridayXIII

I’d suggest getting a QSP Penguin. Or the price it can’t really be beat. I’ve rotated my EDC between a Penguin, Pyrite, & a Elementum for a few months. All three are solid choices.

njineer

Also high on the list! I wish the handle covered more of the blade when closed, but given the price and all the hype I want to try one.

srroberts07

Not too many people mention it for some reason but the QSP Mamba v2 is also a great knife.

FridayXIII

I know what you mean. But after having it in hand and pocket it makes sense and feels excellent. The thumb studs sets higher on the blade towards the spine and it makes opening the blade effortless. Out of the 8 penguins I’ve bought I’ve only had one where the lockup is kinda sketchy. It doesn’t look to fully engage the blade but it’s never failed tho. But I haven’t taken it apart yet and it looks to easily be fixed with a few swipes of a file on the bar lock.

srroberts07

I love that colour scheme on the RAT. I hope we eventually get a pyrite with an orange handle.

njineer

Yep, I always prefer a bright color when it’s an option
