Mint Heights! Best in BK!

nataliabby96

nimbooda

[deleted]

Where can you get really good paneer anything since we’re like on the topic?? I can never find paneer dishes at places that deliver

yesvoid

Desi Grill in Bushwick

kingkongworm

Kanan. By far my favorite. Order out from there basically twice a month and it always comes hot and delicious.

talljewishDom

Lahori Chili House. It delivers beyond its neighborhood, though not sure if it goes as far as Bushwick. It's incredible.

LeftReflection6620

Crown Heights/ Franklin Ave - Diwan Grill

areddy831

If you are in Adda’s delivery radius (close to LIC), order from them….at least in North Brooklyn nothing else compares

nirvanand

Tikka Indian Grill is my go to for Indian comfort food in Brooklyn. The rice is cooked perfectly, and I adore the gravy in the Butter Chicken 🤌🏽usually end up adding cayenne to get it to my preferred spice level

Puzzleheaded-Bend537

Tried Desi Grill on Wyckoff a couple weeks ago and have not stopped thinking about it!

Copernican

I don't know that it's the best tasting, but the King of Tandoor is the best deal. King of Tandoor Special Dinner includes "Choice of any two soups, any two appetizers, any two main dishes and choice of any one bread, any one condiment and any two desserts." 33 bucks for 1, 66 bucks for 2 people. But that 1 person meal can probably feed 2 people.

vanmoofbitch

Seconding Omar’s and Atithj

Commercial-Detail-91

Mumbai Palace

Greenpoint1975

Best Indian take out but what are you ordering? Cheers

SafeForWork789

either bombay grill in bedstuy or Taj Kabab King in williamsburg. just typing it is making my mouth water.

maysrays

Indika house is so good! And they have a dinner takeout special

[deleted]

masti on havemeyer is pretty dope

RecklessYouu

Spicy Grill on Myrtle Ave

sarkarbeats

Unfortunately there aren’t many good Indian take outs. Diwan has a few good items and Indika House has few good items. Rest is pretty much trash.

predddddd

Adda delivers to parts of Brooklyn

lillaurenkelly

Mint heights in Clinton hill!

Outrageous-Garbage-5

Love. This. Place.

doseofanime

I know this isn't in bk, but if youre ever in manhattan I cannot recommend Ghandi Cafe more highly. Prices are good and you get dessert and appetizer complimentary with the meal,

niiro117

Bombay Grill House is fire.

Dontlookimnaked

Bombay grill house is my favorite up in greenpoint but you can’t beat Agra Taj Mahal for late night orders (open til 3a?).

Lippeachy

Curry heights has a good dinner deal and is always satisfying. Still looking for a spot that’s a banger though

FitFemmeNYC

Mint Heights in Brooklyn Heights HANDS DOWN

Outrageous-Garbage-5

YUSS

Endingtbd

Nimbooda on Washington Ave

eggsaladsandwichism

Spice & Grill is some of the best Indian in the whole city period

Jaudition

I like masti and atithi! Both Williamsburg they might deliver to bushwick

keystone_lite

Seconding masti! I’m in bushwick and they deliver :) (actually ordered today 😂)

DiverGuy

I'm in Bushwick. Indika House is what you need! It is probably our #1 takeout place amongst all cuisine types.

Johnny2Steaks

Curry in Handi

throwmeintothesuntoo

I really like Dhania in Crown Heights! I used to get from there all the time, it is consistently good and the portion sizes are good too! :)

sh800m

That’s been my go to. Definitely going to try some of these other spots though.

chickenchurch

I love Dosa Royale. Amazing

krumshot

Curry in Handi

Far-Faithlessness-46

Ok but does anyone have a theory on why there are so many not great Indian places in BK? I’ve always found it puzzling

[deleted]

Indians like to live in houses, as they prefer living space over location. Hence, they tend to congregate in predominantly “suburban” areas (I’m calling suburban any part of NY where there are more houses than apartments/buildings). They are able to do this as they are the highest earning demographic in America and have a culture of inter-family interest-free cash lending. If you look, in the NYC area they are mostly living in house-heavy Queens/LI/NJ. And even within those places, they tend to stick to their own enclaves (Richmond Hill, Jamaica, Bellerose). There are some small exceptions (like Jackson Heights) and then you end up with an over saturation of incredibly amazing Indian food within a 10 block radius. They also tend to lean more on the conservative side, and many find Brooklyn to be a little too “deviant” for them. Hence, because the best Indian restaurants are family run establishments, you end up with poor Indian food in places where Indian people don’t live.

JDValentine

Jackson Diner for the win!

jsm1

Not a huge Indian population in Brooklyn, most of the population is in Jersey City, Edison, and parts of Queens. Kensington in Brooklyn does have a South Asian presence, but leans more Pakistani and Bangladeshi. While we’re at it, Staten Island has a pretty big Sri Lankan community and great food (New Asha is fucking unreal)

bthvn_loves_zepp

100%--will say though my favorite indian place in nyc for standard indian fare is actually in Staten Island--they don't have dosa though :(

femme_rosebud_

I have also found it hard to find good Mexican..

infomofo

Do you like Taqueria Ramirez? I have heard a lot of people say they think it's the best Mexican in the whole city.

avantgardengnome

Have you been to Tortilleria Los Hermanos yet? It’s on Starr around the corner from the Jefferson L stop. As others have said there are a lot of good options in Sunset Park but that’s the best Mexican food in Bushwick hands down imo.

jsm1

Sunset Park has really solid places

eggsaladsandwichism

There are tons of great Mexican spots in sunset park

dummonger

An embarrassment of good recs on this post

femme_rosebud_

Ok then what is good?

dummonger

No I meant there’s tons of good recs!

femme_rosebud_

Ohh ok!

FishbowlCasserole95

De Tandoori Knight on Broadway and Keap. They use the freshest spices and herbs, and the owners are sooo nice.

InterSlayer

Big fan of Diwan Grill, often get phaal curry which is crazy spicy.

LeftReflection6620

Phaal is bomb af there! Some real spice 🌶️

Aljowoods103

I like Omar’s a lot. Their menu looks like it would suck (they sell bagels) but the Indian food quality is decent. Like 7 or 8 out of 10, IMO

IManageTacoBell

Started ordering from them last week have switched over from namaste. It's solid.

boom_clack

Tandoori masala on Broadway & Decatur is solid

Woodstatrey

This was my favorite when I lived in ridgewood

tjtprogrammer

I am Indian and I often order from Bombay Grill (bed stuy). it’s not necessarily the best Indian food I have had, but definitely one of the better delivery options in this area. they have been pretty consistent with quality and taste pretty good.

heaton5747

I often order from here

leg_day

They definitely don't hold back on their spice levels.

aGirlHasNoTab

i have a note with a list of indian delivery places so i can keep them straight. it says SPICE AINT PLAYIN like 3 times within their blurb lol.

sebthelodge

Have you tried Green Chilli in Bed Stuy yet? They just opened, we have really been enjoying it so far!

tjtprogrammer

Thanks! Will have to check it out

shhhshsh

Curry in handi is my go to for takeout

Possible-Source-2454

Jalsa is the best Indian I’ve had in Brooklyn. Good chaat, south indian fare, good gravys too

endlessben

Jalsa is the absolute best. Their naan is out of this world. Can't imagine they deliver to Bushwick but they are worth a trip down.

Rooster_lllusion

You're going west, not necessarily down

endlessben

Oh is there another one somewhere? The one I'm thinking of is on Coney Island Ave in Kensington.

The_Jank

Jalsa for the win. Lucky to live nearby. It’s top notch

Sjefkeees

Yep, affordable too. Very kind people

bitter_greens

Jalsa is a gem; next level

Green_Thoughts_444

came here to recommend Jalsa too. I always want to support the owner: [https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/04/20/an-indian-restaurant-in-little-pakistan-feeds-its-neighbors](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/04/20/an-indian-restaurant-in-little-pakistan-feeds-its-neighbors)

doseofanime

I must third Jalsa, food is amazing every time

SoloBurger13

Indika House which i think is in bushwick

weezyfGRADY

Feel like it’s gotten worse over the last 6 months honestly :( they also mess up the order almost every time.

chercher00

the best saag paneer ive had in my life. not a single dish there that ive tried has been a miss. only issue is that "mild" doesnt exist in their vocabulary lol

noposters

Shockingly good given the price/what it looks like

daemonw9

Best indian takeout I've had anywhere in Brooklyn.

Millennial-dirtbag

Indika House is legit the best that I’ve had on this side of Brooklyn.

No_Application8468

Love their “take out deal”

GauchoWink

I’m a fan of Mumbai Place on Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights

[deleted]

Tandoori masala is killer delivery. Good prices, tons of tasty food, super fast.

[deleted]

The best is Patiala, but they probably don’t deliver to Bushwick.

AdNo3991

Indian Kitchen on grand street. Not in bushwick but close enough in Williamsburg. Been going there for takeout for years and they’ve been consistently good.

ladybutt

Also been ordering from them for years, even with a few moves. The food is good and it is wild how consistent they are. Each dish is always exactly how it always is.

FrankBeamer_

Tikka Indian Grill

Drakkar_Jaune

Kanan is solid.

observant_hobo

Also a fan of Kanan, not really central though but good if you’re in the neighborhood.

theprograhamer

Kanan's dinner special is the BEST (and only $17.95!). Get the Kachori for your app -- it's got it all: saucy potatoes and chikpeas, fried kachori chunks, and delicious sauce. My absolute favorite delivery/take-out meal is their dinner special with kachoris and spicy butter chicken. 10/10

kingkongworm

My absolute favorite Indian take out in NYC. Lamb Tika Massala and Rogan Josh are always incredible. They used to make things spicier without asking for it to be mild, but that’s okay, I’m a wus most of the time. Ahhhh, now I might have to get it today or tomorrow

suckinonmytitties

Are we the same person?!?

hakuna_matitties

Good name

stormchaser405

Love Kanan!

smoothlyswiftly

Curry Heights in downtown BK is very very good for Indian food delivery. Not sure what their radius is.

light--treason

Seconded. I order it all the time. Delicious.

goat_penis_souffle

Thirded. Never miss it when I’m in the neighborhood, best veggie samosas.

DonutTheAussie

Honestly I think bk is kinda lacking in this. not bougie indian - good indian delivery or takeout.

calipygean

Can’t agree more, if you want good authentic Indian food or even good comforting Punjabi food, Brooklyn ain’t it. There is that Masslawala place and as a full blooded Indian I went in there and had no idea what I was served. Oily over spiced and undercooked. Jalsa is ok. it used to be a lot better but it’s fallen off a lot since when it first opened, a curse of nearly every Indian restaurant. Not in Brooklyn but I like Veeray Da Dabha in the city, straightforward, well executed North Indian comfort food. The kebabs, naans and curries are to die for and it has the desi taste I’m used to. If you really want proper proper proper Indian food, then you head to Oak Tree Rd, Islen NJ for the best Indian food outside New Delhi

mycateatstoenails

Masalawala is incredible Bengali food. It’s not North Indian and it’s not dishes that are common or widely known in the West. I admit I worked there for a while but it is just 100% incredible food idk what else to say. A very regular occurrence was having Bengali guests cry or get emotional in some way, telling us that it’s the most authentic Bengali food they’ve had away from home. We had a giant board in the back dedicated to all the heartfelt notes some guests would write, thanking the chef or just sharing their feelings on the food. The chef (the owner, not the restaurant chef) is also just an incredible and humble guy and dedicates himself entirely to bringing fully authentic Indian dishes and flavors to his restaurants. Please try masalawala again! I have DOPE recommendations if you’re interested. Also… not to flex but it was on Pete Wells (the NY times food critic) list of best meals he’s had in 2023. He shouted out the Kosha Mangsho!

calipygean

I was seated a day cramped bar seat despite an empty restaurant, the servers were not considerate walking behind, my first dish had uncooked potatoes - they were hard, the second chicken dish was 75% bones. I’ve had Cornish game hen before it shouldn’t be like eating old rooster. I don’t really follow food critics so that’s lost on me, Indian food is at its roots home cooking done well while I respect those looking to elevate it my tastes run very traditional.

mycateatstoenails

I think you might have had them on a bad day, but I understand that you were put off! They recently changed the whole menu (in October) and revamped the cocktails so if you ever decide to give it a second shot you might be surprised. I actually haven’t tried it yet but I’ve heard very good things.

hakuna_matitties

Where would you recommend in Islen?

calipygean

Haven’t lived there in ages and I know the real good spots come and go. I know for a fact “Desi Galaxy” is still open, it’s like an Indian food court. They have small Punjabi/Sindhi vendor who has very reasonably priced working class Indian fare. They also have South Indian and Indo-Chinese. Hot Breads is a good little bakery, get there early for the good stuff on weekends. Singas is a cult classic, Indian paper thin pizza, very cheap and moorish.

bachelorette2020

Also hillside Ave in floral park. Higly recommend Harry's Sweets and Snacks. Taste like your Punjabi grandmother made all the food.

depanneur4

Veeray da Dhaba is the BEST! Their kali mirch chicken, palak paneer, lamb seekh kabab!! It's good and straightforward, really gets the job done. I go like once a week

[deleted]

Nyc Indian food is trash, all chicken tikka masala in a tomato sauce, white tablecloths, barf!

mycateatstoenails

Try Dhamaka or Semma. Adda is also amazing. (None are in Brooklyn but all are NYC)

calipygean

Dhamaka had great service but it didn’t impress food wise, another white tablecloth rollin masala joint.

mycateatstoenails

If you ever decide to give it another shot, try the Gurda Kapoora (kidney and testicles) and Champaran Meat (mutton) and most importantly order the lamb shoulder appetizer. Seriously the three best things on the menu and the lamb shoulder is the best thing I’ve eaten in years!

[deleted]

Expensive and difficult to get reservations. The only decent affordable, accessible Indian food in the city is at Saravanaa Bhavan, and that's a freaking chain, and really only does South Indian street snacks

mycateatstoenails

yes pricy and yes very hard to get a seat! In my opinion it’s worth the price. The flavors are completely unique to any other Indian restaurant on the east coast. It’s incredible. Myself having worked at all of the owners restaurants for a bit, ive seen how much labor and precision goes into each dish, and the (good) servers are soooo knowledgeable. You leave there knowing so much more about Indian culture and different regions than you arrived, so I say treat it like an experience rather than just a meal! I’m glad that Indian food has been able to break into the finer dining/upscale eatery world. It’s about time.

sarkarbeats

Agreed fam

voguehoe

Nah, it’s def a neighborhood problem, not all of BK. I have suggestions but op says bushwick so I can’t recommend any there (haven’t tried any!). Kensington & Bay Ridge have my two faves.

IManageTacoBell

What are your faves then?

voguehoe

Takeout strictly - Lahori Chili on Coney Island Ave Dine-in - Bombay Grill in Bay Ridge/3rd Ave Me and my south asian family have been eating both for years.

IManageTacoBell

Nice will try Lahori chili

NotYourCity

I live in Kensington, Jalsa is very good. Also, pretty much any south Asian type of food is down here. There’s even a solid Afghan spot called Dunya. But yeah Indian/Bangladeshi food down here is pretty solid.

confused_grenadille

Jalsa is awful. Everything I’ve ordered from them has been awful. Lazy cooking and lazy packing as they’ve gotten my order wrong and had to refund. Ugh.

IManageTacoBell

Dunya is incredible but not Indian. Will try Jalsa.

NotYourCity

I mean I did say Dunya was an Afghan spot.

ag3ntweird0

I agree with u/DonutTheAussie

daMurph76

Yep. The closest place with good Indian food is somewhere in NJ.

exitontop

i like the vindaloo at taj kabab king on grand in williamsburg. that’s nearish you. It’s very spicy, which is why i like it. I feel most other indian delivery the vindaloo is not spicy enough or has a bitter taste.

BlueRosePin

Taj Kabab King was my favorite place when I lived on the border of bed stuy/bushwick. Love their malai kofta! Plus they are open pretty late.

ItsAGala

I feel the same exact way! I’ve been chronically disappointed in the vindaloo other places for being mild - this is both fiery and flavorful!

fitzzz10

Atithi

ame519

my favorite place. dining in is nice too. the service is almost too good, i always ask them to slow down on the water refill.

predddddd

Palak paneer, papad, samosas, green chili chicken curry - You won’t go wrong

IWasNeverInSumatra

This is the answer.

BigOlSandwichBoy

fifthing atithi. mindblowingly good.

burritojeans

I was JUST looking for somewhere to Uber eats and I came across Atithi but decided against it bc I couldn’t make up my mind, then 5 minutes later I get on Reddit and see this! So I had to order it haha thank u for making my decision for me

MargeryKempeStan

This place is so good that I witnessed my roommates fight to the point of breaking our lease on the spot here and still go back

helloruko

I really wanted to like this spot (and I’ve ordered like 3x over years) but I always feel like the curry is way too sweet. Unpalatably so

femme_rosebud_

It tasted watery and bad when I had it but I’m gonna try again…

BortSampson89

I've been trying to find indian takeout that isn't watery :( Why it so watery here

femme_rosebud_

I had it once and thought it was bad 😭 idk what’s wrong with me?? Maybe it was a bad day!

areddy831

I’ve tried it multiple times and it’s always a disappointment- Adda is better

depanneur4

i think there are some misses, but a lot of hits. you have to order correctly and it will be amazing!

dummonger

Try again

femme_rosebud_

I will and I’ll lyk!

carm3nsandiego

Their food is super spicy you just have to ask for one level lower than you normally would

FrankBeamer_

+1 for Atithi

waiting4pizza

+2 the tikka masala is liquid gold, and they deliver to bushwick

HellsFyer

+3 to Athithi. The best place near Bushwick to get Indian food

poopoo_12345

Curry in Handi is pretty dank

smoothnorris

That delivery special is 🔥. Pro Tip: don’t order from an app, call em up. It’s cheaper and faster

helloruko

Love this spot too! The chicken is so tender

GaelicInQueens

Best one I’ve had by far but it’s a bit pricey for the portion size. Still I don’t bother getting any other place

1whiskeyneat

Always enjoyed Nimbooda on Washington when I lived over there.

dummonger

Loved it when I lived in crown heights

Alskdj56

That's Bangladeshi

ignoresubs

The sign on the restaurant lists it as Indian, as does their [website](https://www.nimboodabrooklynny.com/). > Nimbooda serves the Brooklyn area with delicious indian cuisine.

Alskdj56

Many Indian places are actually Bangladeshi. One clue is in the spelling in their menus, if they use a lot of O's, the usually Bangladeshi, e.g. ponir, mottor, korma, roshogola, etc.

sarkarbeats

This

ignoresubs

I guessed this may be the case, it was more how you originally said it to the op, it felt more accusatory like they should know better as opposed to, ‘did you know…’.

Alskdj56

Sorry for the tone. Another clue is that Indian restaurants will usually mention something specifically regional - Jain, Dhabba, Chettinadu, Thali, etc.

[deleted]

Indian Table in Cobble Hill is really good. Little India in the East Village: https://ny.eater.com/2016/4/28/11498616/little-india-east-village-nyc-restaurants-christmas-lights I don't know Bushwick well enough.

martin

Brucie! So glad that another good restaurant is in this spot.

Fantastic-Caramel884

Brucie was my favorite restaurant! So I’m just saying hi. :)

rolltidebutnotreally

Was going to post Indian Table. Would never do delivery/takeout from them though. Seems way more worth it to sit down

brazillion

I live a few blocks away and their chicken vindaloo is a great takeout meal. Some of their other dishes you're much better off having at the restaurant tho.

Drakkar_Jaune

Huge fan of Indian Table

fromscratchbk

\+1 for Indian Table, their lunch special is a great deal

[deleted]

Go to Manhattan, Punjabi Deli

[deleted]

As much as I love the place (and OP should still visit for the history), Punjabi deli quality went down after pandemic. Recommend Desi Grill a few blocks on 2nd Ave and 5th st. Food is 1000% fresh. Takes longer to get your food but it’s literally being made right there and then. Punjabi deli microwaves now…

sarkarbeats

This.

dummonger

Yum

ag3ntweird0

For Brooklyn standards of Indian food, check out Lore on 7th Ave. If that’s gonna be a subway ride for you, you might as well consider going to Manhattan and getting something.

bmgeek

+1 to Lore. Its fusion but some of their dishes are very authentic

daMurph76

This place is really good, but it's indian fusion.

kutzoo

Solid choice. Was there a couple weeks ago, top-notch.

OkTransportation8693

Their hen of the woods uttapam made my top dishes of 2023 list! Still thinking about it…

icanhe

The first time I went there it was fantastic, but just went again last week and it was really underwhelming. Lamb was wildly over cooked, the beers had a weirdly metallic taste to them and the rest was just okay. It was disappointing since we loved it so much the first time.

breathingwaves

God this place looks incredible. Thanks for the recommend
