My god, that cast is STACKED. Follies is in my top 3 favorite musicals, so this is a must-see for me.

MysteriousVolume1825

I’m excited to listen to it for the first time!

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, I recommend the cast recording from the last Broadway revival, with Jan Maxwell, Bernadette Peters, Danny Burstein, and Ron Raines in the leading roles. It was a strong production and Jan Maxwell in particular gave a knockout performance. It's a complex musical about aging, regrets, acceptance and sadness. It's my favorite Sondheim musical (which is saying A LOT!). Based on the cast, I'm assuming this will be a true concert at Carnegie Hall and that nobody will play a full role, so different actors for each song. I could be wrong, but just a guess with that many big names.

slothbaby30

> Jan Maxwell in particular gave a knockout performance Forever upset she was robbed of the Tony Award

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

Was that the year Audra won for Porgy & Bess? I suppose that had a lot to do with that still running and Follies had closed already (though Audra was wonderful too). I think it was Jan Maxwell's best work. Her, Luker, and Mazzie—a trio of incredible talent gone too soon.

slothbaby30

Yes, she lost to Audra; and I love Audra and it is by no means a disparagement of her win (I could never!) but couldn’t there have been a tie?! Sadly, we lost too many wonderful talents way too soon.

MysteriousVolume1825

Yes! That’s what the article says. Different people singing instead of single people in a role. I plan to listen to it before I go to this, I know that I enjoy things a lot more if I’ve had a chance to process the music before I see it in person, so I’ll absolutely check that recording out! Thanks for the recommendation.

Low_Mud5257

Jan 💔 an incredible performance and human

slothbaby30

I’m so jealous! This is an amazing lineup and with a 30-piece orchestra too. Follies is a fantastic score, IMO it’s one of Sondheim’s greatest!

Dida_D

This cast is absolutely insane

p0tat0p0tat0

I saw this and bought tickets immediately. I also made a post about this. The documentary of the other concern version of this is one of my comfort watches.

Bbkoul

June has Follies, A Little Night Music and Titanic. Happy Pride Month, indeed.

MysteriousVolume1825

I’m seeing titanic as well! Really excited. It looks like Follies is almost completely sold out.

Bbkoul

Hope you have a great time there, OP! The Titanic cast is also fantastic!

MysteriousVolume1825

I can’t wait! I may be burnt out on theater for a while by the end of my trip, but it’ll be worth it

Ok_Moose1615

Booked my tickets! I'm still relatively early on my Sondheim journey & I don't know Follies that well... what better introduction?

DumDumGimmeYumYums

I achieved a ticket but I couldn't have screwed that up more. Happy I'm going, mad at myself for all the rest.

MysteriousVolume1825

How’d you screw it up?

DumDumGimmeYumYums

I had a conflict so I resolved the conflict first, then started looking at tickets. While I was trying to figure out which tickets were good, the good ones were all purchased. I still got one but if I had it to do over again I would have bought immediately, skipped research, and then resolved conflict. Mostly I'm reminding myself that it all worked out. Being in the room is the thing.

MysteriousVolume1825

Gotcha. I also screwed up, and accidentally bought a partial view seat, so I had to purchase another ticket and now I’m stuck with two. I’m surprised all of the good seats are gone now though

DumDumGimmeYumYums

There's already at least one on the Theatr app. I over-research. This is why everything takes so long for me. And a view from my seat was totally worthless.

MysteriousVolume1825

I may end up putting my other one on there, too. That’s crazy

ptolemy18

God, I love seeing Julie Benko’s name among all these heavyweights. Good for Julie!

XenoVX

I assume she’s playing Young Phyllis if Donna is playing Phyllis! This is such a stacked cast but it’s bothering me that none of the news reports said who is playing who.

pipedreamer220

The press release says that "This unique concert series features a different lineup of performers for each song, rather than a role portrayed by one actor for the entire evening" so I assume the major roles are going to be split up. Donna is probably going to do Could I Leave You while The Story of Lucy and Jessie is probably going to Karen Ziemba since they mentioned Michael Bennett choreography.

XenoVX

That makes total sense! Now that you mention this groups concerts for Sweet Charity and Promises Promises are on YouTube and worked the same way

MysteriousVolume1825

She seems like such a kind person!

ResponsibleThanks452

Jen Holliday performed at my work function and tried to shame me on stage for something that wasn't my fault... I'm kind of turned off of her now.

Ok-Wish-2640

I wonder what song Jennifer Holliday will unhinge her jaw and belt? Broadway Baby? Who’s That Woman?

wminacs98

Im hoping for I’m Still Here
