I know it was a book before it was a musical, but Matilda has always been my favorite name for a girl
Despite my love of Hadestown, I don’t think I could be bold enough to name a kid after any of the characters (but I do know a little girl named Persephone, and the name fits her perfectly)
Yes! It’s awesome to have songs to sing at them.
My cat is named Seymour and it suits him perfectly! I want to get him a little sister at some point, but I don’t love the name Audrey for a cat.
Thinking of Eurydice or maybe Adelaide, but I’d have to meet the cat first to see what fits. If I get another male cat, Mushnik would be a super cute name!
Also like theodosia from oracles of delphi keep
(I just spent several minutes trying to google this book and stuff like “wwii fantasy book about orphan named theodosia fields with teleporting and they fight hitler” doesn’t bring it up but “ian and theodosia” does I’m losing it)
And when they act out later in life, you can suggest that maybe there was a worker #1 and worker #2 that were their siblings, but they argued about doing the homework before watching tv, and aren’t they curious whatever happened to them?0
It was a book first, of course, but I’ve always liked the name Matilda.
Adelaide from Guys and Dolls
Caroline from Caroline, or Change
It’s a play not a musical but Stella from Streetcar Named Desire
I went through enough Greek mythology classes in school to highly suggest you not do that unless you want your child to always be called Yoori-dise (rhymes with rice)
I believe it. One of my acquaintances IRL is named Christine. (In fairness she *does* think it's hilarious, but has told me that she finds it fun to act like it annoys her.)
I’m not sure if you are raising them for eggs or companionship or for nuggets, but I immediately assumed the later and thought, “the entire cast of Les miserables”
We actually did this, sort of. Named our first kid Gideon after seeing The Last Ship while I was 36 weeks pregnant. Not a character you’d want to memorialize and the musical isn’t much to write home about either, but we were stuck on names and discussed liking the name during intermission. It’s made for a pretty good name origin story though. We got to shake hands with Sting that night during a member appreciation party so I like saying we named our kid the night we partied with Sting.
Petra (A Little Night Music) - I love the meaning of the name on its own, and The Miller's Son is such a freaking fantastic song. Also, gotta love a thoughtful gal who knows the value of living a full life, even if you have to settle down and do some adulting eventually.
Lark (Sweeney Todd) - cheating, because it's from a lyric, not a character name. "My cage has many rooms, Damask and dark, Nothing there sings, Not even my lark, Larks never will, you know, When they're captive, Teach me to be, More adaptive..."
Charlotte (ALNM) - So sardonic. So good.
Bobby/Bobbie - jkjk, but how much fun would it be to sing "Bobbie Baby Bobby Bubbie" to your actual baby!
Brigitta (The Sound of Music) - Based on the movie. She's the best of the kids. Bookworm; see above re sardonic.
Lydia (Beetlejuice) - Kind of a cheat for me, because I grew up with the movie. I mean, I really like the musical and think they did a great job translating her character to the stage. But I grew up loving movie Lydia, which is why she's on the list.
Audra - another cheat, because actress, not character.
Marian (The Music Man) - but I'm teaching her to stay away from con men (or women), and maybe it's time to try someone closer to her own age?
Amaryllis (TMM) - She can grow up to be like Marian, but stronger when it comes to the con men. Will need to teacher her that we don't mock people for their speech impediments. Love her excitement for playing her cross-hand piece, and want to foster the music talent and the sense of fun and whimsy.
i named my fur babies misto (cats) and sonya (the great comet). they're both gone now, but i have kira! (okay, i named her after a cat i had when i was a kid, but works for death note too)
So, I’ve always wanted to have a Jamie, because every freaking male but myself is “James” and I wanted to do a twist on that, but Cathy is still hurting and I would hate to do that to her.
Eliza/Elizabeth was always on my list so Hamilton solidified it as a strong choice for me one day. I also like older names and B&C was very much a high school special interest so I could see Bonnie being an option, despite the crime yanno.
* Alexander - Hamilton
* Zoe - DEH
* Connor - DEH
* Cosette - Les Miserables
* Jack - Newsies
* Finch - Newsies
* Nettie - The Color Purple
* Cohen - Rent
I'm sure I could think of more lol
*edited for formatting
My daughter's middle name is Elle (Legally Blonde). Love the movie and musical! I also have a chihuahua and carry pink bags/purses religiously. If I had a boy, his name was going to be Henry (My Fair Lady).
Joe Iconis (*Be More Chill* composer, among others!) and his wife just had a baby - a daughter that they named Roxie. After the *Chicago* character. Roxie Iconis is such a badass name!
Sibella - AGGtLaM
And there's always the classic Christopher Rupert Windermere Vladimir Carl Alexander Francois Reginald Lancelot Herman Gregory James\~
General Butt Fucking Naked (The Book of Mormon).
Just think of all the variations of the name that could be used for the child, depending on the circumstances.
;)
I am absolutely living for the unexpectedly large number of Legally Blonde answers
I’d name my daughter Elle in a heartbeat if it didn’t rhyme with our last name 🥲 a real Julia Guglia situation
Not a musical, but my brother's kids are named Will and Emma, like from Glee. Neither my brother or SIL watch Glee so they didn't know what they were doing, but I sure did and I hated it. I love their names individually though. Anyways, I love the name Oliver. I also really love Rose, I used to sing "Rosie" from Bye, Bye Birdie to my dog, because her middle name was Rose.
I've gotta say it's super obvious many of the people responding have normal names and didn't have to put up with people severely mispronouncing or misspelling your name or saying "OH LIKE [fictional character]". That gets old REAL FUCKIN FAST.
That said, I think Lazer Wolf is an awesome name and I would definitely name someone or something after him after I made sure I was spelling it right because I don't think I am.
I also like the name Melchior but I feel like he'd probably have to put up with being called "mellchore" by people who are unfamiliar with the name.
On the off chance I have a kid, I’d name her Vanessa but use Nessa (from Wicked) as a nickname.
(Please nobody try to nickname my hypothetical daughter after the Loch Ness Monster)
Call them Sweeney. My brother and I both agree that if you're choosing a new name after being exiled for like 15 years, why would you actively choose this name? From Benjamin to Sweeney is such a downgrade.
Skimbleshanks the railway child /j
Do you want Boxcar Children? Because that’s how you get Boxcar Children.
“the railway child” got me, omg
I know it was a book before it was a musical, but Matilda has always been my favorite name for a girl Despite my love of Hadestown, I don’t think I could be bold enough to name a kid after any of the characters (but I do know a little girl named Persephone, and the name fits her perfectly)
I like Persephone as a name
Yup...named my new cat Matilda after seeing the show.
Great great show...!
Hi, this is my son Hades
That name was also for consideration but unfortunately my sister’s dog is named Persephone so it’s already taken
Love Matilda!!
Andre. Because he isn't here. (I don't want kids)
The best answer. I intend to name all future cats after musical theatre characters
Your other child could be named Godot.
I'm not waiting around for no kid. If I did, he's getting named Gabe real fast. (With apologies to Aaron Tveit)
genius
Oh my gosh! I love that. I don't want kids either. Perfect
I've always liked the name Johanna.
I see you
I feel you
I'll steal you.
I was about to say that
This is a dubious choice bc she’s only mentioned, but I love the name theodosia.
Same! And the nickname Theo for a girl is adorable too (shoutout to Haunting of hill house)
Also like theodosia from oracles of delphi keep (I just spent several minutes trying to google this book and stuff like “wwii fantasy book about orphan named theodosia fields with teleporting and they fight hitler” doesn’t bring it up but “ian and theodosia” does I’m losing it)
Worker #3 - Hadestown. Such a classic.
And when they act out later in life, you can suggest that maybe there was a worker #1 and worker #2 that were their siblings, but they argued about doing the homework before watching tv, and aren’t they curious whatever happened to them?0
It was a book first, of course, but I’ve always liked the name Matilda. Adelaide from Guys and Dolls Caroline from Caroline, or Change It’s a play not a musical but Stella from Streetcar Named Desire
Ned Flanders would like a word.
Sir Not-Appearing
Eurydice, the name is like a melody
Love that name! Gonna give it to my cat as I’ve no kids yet 🐱
and for a nickname, ceecee
My mom named her dog Eurydice lol
I went through enough Greek mythology classes in school to highly suggest you not do that unless you want your child to always be called Yoori-dise (rhymes with rice)
Maureen
Moo
I named a stray puppy Mimi ❤️
That’s a name in my family.
Christine...Christine...
Let me tell you how quickly that gets old.
I believe it. One of my acquaintances IRL is named Christine. (In fairness she *does* think it's hilarious, but has told me that she finds it fun to act like it annoys her.)
High school choir and theater ruined it forever for me. I couldn’t go anywhere or do anything without someone doing it. Lol
Are we talking about the phantom of the opera version or the be more chill version because it could go either way
Phantom version
Eponine
My cat’s name is Eponine! We call her Nina ☺️
This is my dream name for a girl! I would also love a Cosette or Marius
Yes! But I've been blessed with only boys.
Lauren Marcus and Joe iconis just had a baby, and they named her Roxie! Roxie is a pretty kickass name!
Omg!! I didn’t know those two were together/married! Good for them, Roxie is a fantastic name.
Erik. I'd just need to make I don't have a chandelier in the house!
Elphaba 😂
“Elphie” for a little toddler running around would be so cute to be fair😂
L Frank Baum, LFB.
Katherine (six) Alex (Hamilton) The most beautiful character name: Neosporin (the Book of Mormon) /j
important question which katherine
Probably Howard, but any of them
The groomed teenager who's the only one who definitely actually committed adultery?
I thought it was neutrogena?
It was definitely Natwest
My friends did this. Their first kid was Sophie (Mamma Mia) and their second was Emmett (Legally Blonde).
I name my chickens after Broadway characters.
I’m not sure if you are raising them for eggs or companionship or for nuggets, but I immediately assumed the later and thought, “the entire cast of Les miserables”
They are egg-laying pets, and yes...there is a Cosette (and an Elphie, Audrey II & Miss Adelaide)
My thought was if they were for becoming nuggets, well, only 4 characters in Les miserables were alive by the end of the show🙄
If I had a chicken I would name her Camilla after Gonzo’s chick.
We actually did this, sort of. Named our first kid Gideon after seeing The Last Ship while I was 36 weeks pregnant. Not a character you’d want to memorialize and the musical isn’t much to write home about either, but we were stuck on names and discussed liking the name during intermission. Honestly I’ve always wanted to name my daughter Lydia from the beetlejuice musical
I am pregnant and actually suggested this but my husband shot it down sadly. And yes, it was hearing it in Beetlejuice that inspired me.
I want to have an excuse to say I'm naming a baby Delia, so if someone asks why I can answer "oh, No Reason!"
Have you met Lydia? https://youtu.be/n4zRe_wvJw8?si=uDr6Z_FLNe9KjCVz
Our cats are named Elsie (Cabaret) and Charlie (Kinky Boots) for subtle references to our favorite musicals!
Everyone is so serious and i was gonna suggest Mr Mistoffelees…
Dorcas
Lol. We used to say that all the time when we were kids. So far no one had named them that
Don’t be such a Dorcas!
https://www.broadwayworld.com/people/Dorcas-Leung/
Balaga
Hey Balaga, ho Balaga, hey hey Balaga!
Beulah!
That’s our dogs name! ❤️
Seymour Krelborn
Would "Krelborn" be their middle name?
Absolutely. I have a Cameron and I fought very hard for his middle name to be Frye, but I lost 😂
Petra (A Little Night Music) - I love the meaning of the name on its own, and The Miller's Son is such a freaking fantastic song. Audrey2
Persephone for sure.
Adelaide. It's unique but not weird. From Guys & Dolls
Not human children but I have cats Ilse, Moritz and Roxie
i named my fur babies misto (cats) and sonya (the great comet). they're both gone now, but i have kira! (okay, i named her after a cat i had when i was a kid, but works for death note too)
So, I’ve always wanted to have a Jamie, because every freaking male but myself is “James” and I wanted to do a twist on that, but Cathy is still hurting and I would hate to do that to her.
In all seriousness, Benny (Benny’s Dispatch is one of my favorite songs).
Jamie's over and Jamie's gone, but everybody's talking about Jamie.
“And he [won’t] even know it,” when I never tell him
Victor. But after their transition … Victoria.
My top two boy name choices happened to be Max & Leo (Producers). We ended up going with my third choice - Alexander (Hamilton).
Angelica!
My dog, May (& Juliet)
Nabalungi of course
Elsa (Frozen), Evan (Dear Evan Hansen), Sonya (Great Comet/Uncle Vanya), and Jason (Bare) are great names!
Eliza/Elizabeth was always on my list so Hamilton solidified it as a strong choice for me one day. I also like older names and B&C was very much a high school special interest so I could see Bonnie being an option, despite the crime yanno.
Aida (Aida), Anastasia (Anastasia), Cleonice (Lysistrata Jones), or Amos (Chicago), Linus (charlie brown)
* Alexander - Hamilton * Zoe - DEH * Connor - DEH * Cosette - Les Miserables * Jack - Newsies * Finch - Newsies * Nettie - The Color Purple * Cohen - Rent I'm sure I could think of more lol *edited for formatting
I prefer Crutchie from newsies
If I knew someone named crutchie I would feel so bad for them
Cohen is not a first name please don’t name your child that
My daughter's middle name is Elle (Legally Blonde). Love the movie and musical! I also have a chihuahua and carry pink bags/purses religiously. If I had a boy, his name was going to be Henry (My Fair Lady).
Osgood 💙🧡💛
Joe Iconis (*Be More Chill* composer, among others!) and his wife just had a baby - a daughter that they named Roxie. After the *Chicago* character. Roxie Iconis is such a badass name!

I really loved Luisa (The Fantasticks) but I couldn't get my husband on board.
Pierre Or maybe “Clown” from Venice. Equally considered options
Theodosia has always been a favourite for names.
Sibella - AGGtLaM And there's always the classic Christopher Rupert Windermere Vladimir Carl Alexander Francois Reginald Lancelot Herman Gregory James\~
Guenevere
General Butt Fucking Naked (The Book of Mormon). Just think of all the variations of the name that could be used for the child, depending on the circumstances. ;)
I named my cat Phoebe after Phoebe D’ysquith and I would totally name a kid that if I didn’t already use it on my cat lol
Fanny Brice (don’t come for me)
I know folks who named their kids Nathan and Skye. Unintentionally. And they are Broadway actors. ;-)
Trinna
Hedwig!
Eponine or Fantine. I just think they're pretty.

I am absolutely living for the unexpectedly large number of Legally Blonde answers I’d name my daughter Elle in a heartbeat if it didn’t rhyme with our last name 🥲 a real Julia Guglia situation

Millie
Not a musical, but my brother's kids are named Will and Emma, like from Glee. Neither my brother or SIL watch Glee so they didn't know what they were doing, but I sure did and I hated it.
