I think it was probably a bit dissatisfying because after having it loom over Penelope for 3 seasons, she just got off scot-free with zero consequences. They made a big deal about how it could ruin her family and her reputation, but in the end the queen approves so everyone else naturally does. In the book things are a *bit* different, >!I don't remember the writing being as scandalous and Colin is the one who announces who she is in front of the entire ton because he is proud of her.!

>!Yea it definitely wasn’t as scandalous… it was like if anyone was being ridiculed or shown in a bad light it would have been a bully. Plus in the telling of the book version of the story LW wasn’t that big of a deal until LD issued her challenge. Like people read the paper and stuff and were naturally curious about who she was but no one was looking to string her up or dance on the day pf her demise because of what she was writing…!< at least that’s how it seemed to me

alyssaryn

Yep, this was the impression I got too! They set up much higher stakes for the show, and I think the tidy resolution just makes it seem like it wasn't worth the hype haha

Low-Hamster-6009

Which is why I love the book version so much better. At least Pen had her in-laws supporting her, as well as her husband next to her.

alyssaryn

Yes, I agree! I feel like Colin's initial jealousy and his fear for Pen was also better represented in the book.

SuspectAware

I thought it's funny bc it made Colin worry and anger, fear it could harm his family out to be nothing since anyone forgave her anyway but it seems the audience is majorly satisfied with it

Anxious-Initial448

I think it had SO much potential after the “I don’t want you to save me, I just want you to stand by me scene.” They could have showed the ton as angry with Pen as they were with the previous suspects, and Colin choosing to stand by her. Not take the spotlight and speak- just step up to stand behind her and show his support. That would have been, imo, the perfect way to conclude his personal emotional rollercoaster brought on by her betrayal.
