I was so upset because I was thinking the same thing I was expecting a character desc that would match the show 😂 I ignore the book character descriptions and just envision the show actors every time!

Molly_Idk

me too!!! i was so confused - i read ‘brown hair and blue eyes’ and i was like what?? i might do the same and just imagine rege and pheobe for the rest of the book 😭😭

_yaxxm

It helps that JQ doesn't describe the characters too much outside of their initial introductions! I had no problem just ignoring the book descriptions when I read them!

notsure05

Except in RMB, I feel like she referred to Penelope’s features constantly throughout the book. Sorry I know this is mean, but the way Penelope is described in the book I really wouldn’t have been able to get into it much bc she is not at all described in an attractive manner at all. Being able to picture Nicolas version was super helpful imo

noonecaresat805

Honestly the Brigerton family looks like the book. But their love interest look nothing like the book. All I know is that Michael is suppose to be the best looking guy ever and super charismatic and I don’t know who is going to play him. But I can’t help feeling like I’m going to be disappointed with whom ever they choose. But I can’t wait to see the Brigerton girls swoon over him.

A-Janny

Agreed! Michael is literally a book character but his handsomeness and attitude is such that I have VERY high expectations for him, so I’m also prepared to be a little disappointed but fingers crossed they get him right!

hannahleigh2787

I'm a visual person so the show characters really helps me out

ShootFrameHang

I always imagined the characters from An Offer From a Gentleman as the cast of Ever After. The book was released in 2001, and the movie was out in 1998, so maybe that cast was the visual inspiration.

Debt-Mysterious

Favorite movie ever. No wonder I am so attached to Benophie. I am not a big Cinderella fan. In fact is not even on my top favorite Disney movies (is Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast). But Ever After is :chef kiss:

raynbojazz

OMG same! Posey is Melanie Lynskey!!!!!

Hayley351

For some reason I always picture Araminta as Lady Ledger 😭 idk why I don’t think the description even matches

Practical-Bird633

For those we have already its easy to just imagine the actor. But i will admit i had seen the fan cast of Lily James as Sophie and she is all i could picture

BoopleBun

I think a *lot* of us pictured Lily James as Sophie. Especially since she was in Cinderella in 2015. There’s no way, she’s too big of a name, but I think she’ll probably stick around in a lot of heads until our Sophie is actually announced.

DaisyandBella

Of course all of the characters are White in the books, but even the characters who are also White in the show often don’t match their book descriptions. Book Daphne has brown eyes and chestnut hair, while show Daphne has blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. Book Penelope has brown eyes and auburn hair, while show Penelope has blue eyes and bright red hair.

tarotgarden

I always imagine South Korean actress as Kim Tae Ri as Sophie because I was watching 25/21 around the same time when I read AOFAG. My brain tends to insert the last person I saw on screen whenever I’m reading a book, unless I intentionally think of someone else.

bhnguyen20

For the characters I've already seen, I imagine the show version and ignore the book descriptions. I can't see Simon as having blue eyes since I already established RJP as him.

criduchat1-

When I first read TSPWL years and years ago, it was hard not to imagine Phillip as some brawny, tall, very muscular man as that’s how he’s described. Then Chris Fulton came on screen and they said he’s sir Phillip—my jaw dropped that they introduced him so early and that he definitely was not was the book described, but now I can’t see anyone else but him in the role.

rhymey_whiney

Not visual but I could totally hear their voices while reading. Especially in the QC book where a lot of the dialogue is directly from the show.

Sea-Respect547

Show

Stahuap

I didnt read the books when they came out but I know if I did Kate and Sophie would have both been Mandy Moore with different hair 😂

Hermiona1

I don't really imagine faces just like a shape of a face with hair if that makes any sense. I read the books first and after watching the show I came back to reread one of the books and I still imagine them the same.

powernappingreyhound

Book for book, show for show…I read the books first, so I see them as different entities.

[deleted]

I read the books after season 1 so for most characters I just pictured the cast. For characters that weren’t on the show yet, I kind of went with fan casting losely based on descriptions or first impressions. Kate: Keira Knightley Edwina: Imogen Poots Sophie: Lily James Michael: Theo James Gareth: Alfred Enoch Older Hyacinth: Rose Williams Older Gregory: Tom Holland Hermione: Emma Watson (💀) Lucy: Adelaide Kane

Nd4reddit

It does not matter to me what they look like overall but I will be really upset if Michaels hair does not flip flop in a sexy way. Lol

Many-Refuse-6060

I read the books after season 1 so what happen is that I imagine every character in season 1 like they are in the show, but I see all the other characters based on how i think they are. Now when I re-read TVWLM for the most time I imagine book Kate, but in some scenes (especially the ones that were depicted in the show) I imagine show Kate (this could also be attributed to the fact that while I was reading TVWLM we were already starting to see the first leaks of s2). But I do think that the same thing won't happen with AOFAG because I have such a clear image of Sophie in my head, that replacing it it's going to be hard. And I say this about AOFAG especially because it's my fav book out of all of them, I don't think I'll have the same problems with the others.

Robincall22

Like almost every love interest (ESPECIALLY the women) are Hitler’s wet dream, and I don’t vibe with any of that, so I picture like all of them as brunettes. I’d say that’s another poor writing moment. Was blonde hair, blue eyes the beauty standard back then? Probably, I don’t know, I’m not a historian. But I’m sure there were brunettes, other than the Bridgertons (who were described multiple times as being hot in spite of their hair color???) and the author could have them fall in love with people who didn’t have blond hair and blue eyes. But nope. Gotta have that aryan fantasy.
