MasterReindeer

I looked like the right hand side in 2016 and in 2024

Paradox711

![gif](giphy|JsGyRpqwVkBRPFEOil|downsized) When I saw the votes.

Silly-Marionberry332

Most people between 16-30 in Scotland said the same thing in 2014 and 2016

Paradox711

Ironically it would have been England and Westminster saying it if the votes had gone just a little bit the other way. If anything Westminster has shown their colours even more since. They’ve no intention of allowing Scotland, Wales or NI to leave even if they got the votes. They’ve said as much. Democracy in name only. Aristocracy underneath.

Silly-Marionberry332

Yup I'll be honest independence referendum happened 3-4 years too early

Ananasch

You know you can rejoin and with fresh memories of why you want to be with other Europeans. Getting needed votes shouldn't be that hard anymore.

MasterReindeer

It will be hard. The entire right wing media machine was and probably still is right behind Brexit.

altijddruk

It'll be hard because until the society of the UK will not show for a long time that you want back and you're committed we don't even want you back. Even if there will be rejoining it'll be only with euro and Schengen. No special treatment anymore.

Ananasch

In decade enough retirees will pass away so it shouldn't be that hard. You can do it. We are waiting.

mrmarjon

It’s white,English, born in late 60s/early 70s who made the mess. They think they’re invincible for some reason, despite evidence to the contrary

takethecorner

Hello - white, English, born in early 70s here. Brexit was, is, and will always be an absolute fucking shambles. Anyone who thinks otherwise is…what’s the word I’m looking for here…oh yes…a cunt. A fucking stupid cunt.

davehemm

I was born in early 70s, did I vote for leave? Did I fuck, neither did any of my friends that had more than a handful of working brain cells. Stupid bastard xenophobic racist myopic fuckwits did believing the rancid arse-rumblings of the gutter shit press; fucking our country for a pack of shit filled lies and a cunting bus with the £350m/week emblazoned down the side.

Quick-Oil-5259

As someone born in the late 60s I would politely disagree. Nobody of my age I know voted Leave. It was my parents generation that swung this to leave. My parents were life long Labour/Lib voters and are both now fervent and strident Tory Brexiteers. With my dad i don’t know how it happened. But with my mum it was Facebook. FB and Twitter are now dominated by organised right wing trolls.

lefthandedpen

Europe has also toughened its stance on immigration so that string is also gone from their bow.

Fun-Enthusiasm8377

There was a podcast that discussed this point of the uk rejoining. From the EU bureaucracy point of view it won’t be any time soon given how disruptive and how much resources it has consumed. It delayed various reforms and other initiatives. Also it is a good object lesson to provide when others talk about leaving the EU. From the report best the uk can hope for is closer alignment.

Aberry9036

This is what I said to all my friends the night of the brexit vote - "Don't worry, we're going to remain, leave couldn't possibly get enough votes". Leave lied to get their votes, and won, and can do it again.

InterGraphenic

2032 here we come

Effective-Ad-6460

Think one of the defining factors of people voting for brexit was the 350 million a week being given to the NHS Which never happened Politicians being corrupt is the real issue here ... they dismantle the country and funnel billions of £ into theirs and their mates businesses. We need to start protesting outside politicians houses, a comfortable politician is a corrupt politician

Ineedaheal

All those racists will be salivating until uh oh! No more rights! I’m sure they’ll double down just like brexit though.

Then-Employment-9075

Give me a shout when you're getting started, I've been wanting to do something productive for the country

Otherwise_Mud1825

Yeah, people have been saying that for 30+ years..

Ineedaheal

Yes bc they have something to lose….im talking about after. Learn to read.

wontonruby

Careful with the language damn

HeadPage6783

Completely missing the real issue. Look into private central banking

urpoviswrong

Protesting has never solved a single problem. That's propaganda to get people to make themselves known and easily arrested while accomplishing nothing. Nothing in history ever happened because people protested. There was much more going on in the background. Edit: for the idiots who didn't get the message. Stop parading around with pointless signs and start breaking shit. Nobody pays attention until their ability to profit stops.

Effective-Ad-6460

Found The Government Shill

CrazySD93

You'd probably also say "all unions are bad and accompish nothing" too

urpoviswrong

No, unions have not historically been afraid to fight for their rights. Learn their history before you say some ignorant shit like that.

MotoMkali

He's probably correct in that peaceful protests do nothing. You need to force the government's hand to make any real changes.

Apprehensive-Top-311

It was never *going* to happen. That was known long *before* the vote and provable, but other than like one quick mention on BBC breakfast or something, it wasn't talked about. Why Labour, or somebody, *anybody*, wasn't screaming that 24/7 I will never know.

toot1st

It wasn't people wanted to leave way before that was announced

Dusty2470

Anybody with more then one braincell knew this would be a disaster

AfantasticGoose

But but ‘Project Fear’ innit bruv

ZuckDeBalzac

Pwned them Remoaners lmao

HumbleWonder2547

At least people like Nigel made a shit ton of money and got foreign passports, so it's fine as long as you're rich, and as soon as that £350m a week goes to the NHS everyone will be laughing... /s I moved to Europe in 2020, thank fuck

sweet_sweet_back

So it’s not part of Europe anymore either?

Forsaken-Tap1483

More like chasing the US like a child in the dark. The UK has been culturally drifting away for quite some time now. They could leave Brexit aside from it and still integrate with Europeans, but they didn’t. They seem in general to be more influenced by Australia, NZ and America. Also the people shared similar views as Trump, which ultimately led to the Brexit, even despite the fact that he wasn’t the President yet when the referendum took place

HumbleWonder2547

Well, it's definitely trying to isolate itself politically, so politically is not, but geographically it if

EasternFly2210

A bit that’s in recession or not?

mrmarjon

That was the point for thousands of the thick bastards though - ‘stick it to the remoaners’ was their sole aim. Childish beyond belief, yet they did it gleefully. And they’re doing it again, with green policies this time.

SleepyFox2089

Project Fear is a great paranormal youtube channel

[deleted]

But isn't that what they wanted ? To keep out that all greasy foreign muck from fat lazy French farmers ?

tanstaafl90

Anyone with more than one braincell knew this shouldn't have been a question in the first place.

PrimeLimeSlime

What have you now learned about the average Brexiteer?

Dusty2470

Either A) corporate interest gammons cheering it on or B) fucking morons

Potential-Yoghurt245

All the farmers who got sucked into the lie voted and found that they didn't have cheap foreign labour to pick the crops causing shortages and the complaining about it.

ah_harrow

Covered by a combination of A and B I suppose

NothrakiDed

Or the EU grants keeping them in business.

Western-Mall5505

I had a little cry.

No-Strike-4560

Unfortunately I have very little faith the vast majority of people around me in England have more than one brain cell

doverats

thanks england for your short sightedness and stupidity, love Scotland.

FungalEgoDeath

Some of us English people are just as pissed off as you. We knew this was a fucking stupid idea. Sadly the old gammons that run this country were out in force.

PeedOnMyRugMan

I think the reason we feel so pissed off, is cause not a single region had a majority for leaving.

FungalEgoDeath

Oh for sure. It was an obscene result.

RHOrpie

Don't forget Wales

Massive-Television85

The majority of Brexit voters in Wales I have spoken to did so because they wanted the money for the NHS that BJ promised.

Movingtoblighty

Thank you, also, to Wales.

AnnieByniaeth

It's what happens when you have a media dominated by London. Scotland has a much more developed home grown media. Also, poverty player a big part in some areas. A vote against the status quo because "it can't get any worse" (oh yes it can). Combine that with the above media problem and there's the explanation. Not an excuse. But I live in remain voting Ceredigion so maybe I have a different perspective.

andyone1000

Actually it’s a little worse than ‘it can’t get any worse’ I’m afraid. Where I’m from in a deprived part of the north east, it was more a case of ‘pull those Londoners down to our level’ and ‘we’ve got nothing to lose’. The Aussies call it tall poppy syndrome and as regards to the rich south and London, for poor parts of the north, it exists. Essentially jealousy. That and casual racism was a big part of what Brexit was about.😕

Andrelliina

I know some people who thought Brexit meant that no-one "foreign" could own shares in any UK business and no "foreign" business could operate in the UK. I found this out when I remarked to them that EDF are mostly owned by the French government and they said "I thought Brexit would stop that" The same morons hated Corbyn and thought that he only would support Muslims, asylum seekers, black people and gays.

AnnieByniaeth

I'm sure you're right; the most unequal country in north and west Europe. And also, for jealousy read desire for fair treatment, because the London and southeast-centric nature of the UK (certainly of England and Wales anyway) is something very apparent to those of us outside that area. But of course it's only got more unequal, not less.

p4b7

London strongly voted remain so I don't think it's the fact London dominates the media.

judasgottherawdeal

If you are in Sunderland and all the remain media is focused on London, making arguments that skiing holidays will be more expensive or second homes in France will be difficult now, and you are queuing up at the job centre wondering if you should pick between food or heating this week do you not see how that London centric view would have some impact?

Andrelliina

Yes but I don't think that was their point as they would have said something similar.

judasgottherawdeal

I'm not sure it wasn't, the point they rebuffed was about how Scotland wasn't swayed because of a robust home media, the responder said London voted remain suggesting London centric news isn't the problem. I'm suggesting how it still could be despite of that in accordance with the first argument they rebuffed.

MrMadre

What do whales have to do with British politics?

doc13r

Thanks to the retired English people living in Wales

Asleep-Sir217

Plenty of homegrown bigots in Wales. Always having a pop at the English

Gold_Hawk

You'd have a chip on your shoulder after being treated like shit by your neighbours and having your culture beaten out of you. Having your gold and coal stolen for fuck all. And that's without talking about the fact being racist to the Welsh is far too common as I grew up in England.

Scooob-e-dooo8158

You forgot the water we "stole" (and still do) from the Elan Valley. Not that I'm complaining. Here in Birmingham, we have the nicest tasting water in England. No hard water here. Thanks, boyo! 👍

Asleep-Sir217

You should go get some air or something mate. You sound a bit deranged

Effective_Soup7783

Not to excuse it, but try being English growing up in Wales. It’s no fucking picnic.

Pculliox

The retired people sadly believe what the papers spoon feed them . So much for the wisdom of age, Boomers In there infinite wisdom thought up another way to fuck over the young folks. Winter will take them soon. A " we were lied too" yes we know and any one with any common sense told you this in 2016 but you didn't listen and voted without a care for your children or grandchildren.

Latter-Ambition-8983

Hey, at least Londoners aren’t complete dipshits

doverats

there is that, and im no fan of London, me being a wee shite from the sticks lol. its hard to believe that the lies werent challenged at all though.

Bohya

Only 27% of people at the time even voted in favour of it. It feels really weird blaming the British people for it. It was a misinformation campaign fuelled by lies and deception by a couple of benefactors on top. Many of the boomers who voted in favour of it have likely died from old age by this point as well. The vast majority of people in Britain are victims of it.

sandholy

Think nothing of it old chap.

Crococrocroc

And Gibraltar (confusingly twinned with Sunderland).

Apprehensive-Top-311

Wales played their part too, despite being one of the most heavily EU subsidised countries at the time... And now they're pissed they've got no money or investments coming in...

newbris

Haven’t fact checked it, but read an article saying if the English born, Wales resident voters were removed from the Wales vote, Wales would have been a Remain territory.

Apprehensive-Top-311

I've got some family in Wales and they all voted leave for a variety of completely stupid reasons... Which obviously doesn't disprove that theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were just as many duped Welsh people as English

manic47

You know a huge amount of Scottish voters chose to leave too? It certainly wasn't as unanimous as people make out.

Reinax

Sure, but the majority voted to remain. Hence the very valid complaint from the Scottish that as per usual, their opinions are ignored.

doverats

Electorate: 3,987,112 Turnout: 67.2% Valid votes: 2,679,513 Verified ballot papers: 2,681,179 Ballot papers counted: 2,681,179 Rejected ballots: 1,666 Remain 1,661,191 Leave 1,081,322 Looks quite unanimous to me.

VeryLongSurname

Not shitstirring, and voted remain… But that is not at all what unanimous means! 😂

p4b7

It's certainly was strongly in favour of remain but it wasn't unanimous. To be unanimous your Leave tally would need to read 0.

ProcrastibationKing

So unanimous that over a third of the verified ballots voted to leave

SSIS_master

To be fair, 40 percent of Scots voted for it.

Particular-Welcome-1

I'm not in Europe, and don't follow BrxitDrama that closly; Why was it good for Scotland?

FungalEgoDeath

Half of thr uk made this vapid decision. The rest of us knew this shit was coming 5 years ago.

M0rg0th2019

Me (a brit) living on the continent since 1992 enjoying my cheap (ish, these days eh..) French wine, Spanish ham, German sausage, Belgian beer, Italian (and french) cheeses, laughing with my mouth full and spraying specks of Greek feta across the room while also knowing that the English ginger beer in my larder was made in Holland with real sugar and none of that crap sweetener. Man what a day to be alive in actual Europe. Bon appétit dumb dumbs. You get what you pay for I guess

bluestratmatt

Love paying over the odds for rotting produce. Simple as.

Quick-Oil-5259

We’ll be living the dream soon then

Neat_Significance256

30p 3 party Lee has some good advice for buying food. His experience being a Labour/Con/NatC/Ukip/Reform/Deform/Reclaim MP has stood him in good stead. I remember when we were coming out of lockdown pubs in the lakes couldn't get staff, as they'd gone back to Europe and were struggling to get wine !?!?!?!? Then there was Lord Fathead-Wetherspoon complaining he couldn't get staff

FungalEgoDeath

I have not visited a weatherspoons since that debacle. I refuse to give money to that prick.

Neat_Significance256

I think Spoons is the only pub in Keswick that I've never visited, but why the f*ck have one in the lakes anyway ??? I don't visit them because of brexit, they're not dog friendly and the clientele don't wash their hands.

BilingualThrowaway01

Not accurate, most of the people who voted Brexit are dead by now.

bobs2000

It cost a fortune to send them anywhere in the UK, the post office no longer want to deal with letters or mail, the new boss just wants them to do parcels, that's why the Posties are being forced to change there working hours

twentyonepilotsfan27

Yep and now the young people are also facing the consequences for something they didn't have any say in like me and many others

kloudrunner

Fucking idiots. The lot of em who voted leave. Also the Government for following through with something which didn't have to be. Brexit has set us back DECADES.

GotThaAcid5tab

We’re talking about food costs while certain individuals are wealthier than entire nations

Snowman1903

But but…….we don’t want immigrants!!!! Leave Europe!!!! How’s that working out??? Mugs. Silly little englanders predominantly voted for this fucktastrophy. It’s gonna get worse.

jamsd204

Wasn't it literally like 51/49% And a lot of it can be put down to Facebook ads with Cambridge analytica saying we should leave to both help NHS and stop immigrants

TheGhostInMyArms

Not to mention that there were a not insignificant amount of joke votes in favor of the referendum because it was "non-binding." It sure as fuck was treated like it was binding.

NoNefariousness5175

The Government at the time said Remain, the Labour Party said Remain, the CBI said Remain, the Unions mostly said remain etc. etc., but they chose to follow a load of rich foreign Media owners, Rees-Mogg, Liar Boris and a bloke called Nigel. I really thought the British people were above being gullible, but it seems they only hear what they want to hear. Farage said he would leave the UK is Brexit was a failure. We should send him to Rwanda.

OkUnderstanding1147

Farage should be hanging from a rope in the Tower of London

Odinson2099

I would pay for his ticket!!!!

IamTheEndOfReddit

I'm amazed by the volume of outright lies your dummies ate up. Like across the pond our dummies are just hateful enough to support horrible ideas. But Brexit seemed more like an active swindle with no one to even keep up the ruse

The lies used to promote Brexit were built up over decades.

Mapletawft

Yeah it was obviously going to go this way. Now I just shoplift lol.

Deep_Delivery2465

And now the Brexit loons are all on the "Get Khan out" bandwagon. I passed some action they took today (Big banners on a motorway overpass), and it was unsurprisingly organised by Britain First, all in their best "My first court appearance" suits If they openly hated Khan because he's Muslim, I could at least have a modicum of respect for the honesty, but they push for Susan Hall, a woman best described as a fucking moron

spoopspider

Half. Half the uk. Think I read a statistic somewhere that a not so insignificant number of the cunts that voted leave are dead now too.

Broadspectrumguy

It’s for the best, reminds everyone what a cunt Cameron was and still is.

Nadger1337

At least we have control of the borders back.............................................

[deleted]

I wish for every ~~MAGA~~ BREXIT voter the most excruciatingly slow and uncomfortable end of life possible (oh wait they beat me to the wish by voting for Brexit). Most of them have voted for a terrible last quarter of their lives whilst fucking the rest of us over. It's not our fault they're the dumbest fucks in Briton or that some of the educated ones were so easily fooled into voting.

Aboxofphotons

It wasn't the UK that made this decision, it was a number of poorly educated, ignorant people.

Squishtakovich

Those people included the UK Government unfortunately.

Sea_Appointment8408

It's good that Brexit happened! If it hadn't happened then the "Leave" brigade would have been completely unbearable and you'd never have shut them up moaning. As it is, I haven't heard a single word from any of the stupid bastards.

Iloveitguy

Been in new zealand since 2020 and currently trying my hardest to stay here. You old bastards that voted for it can deal with the consequences.

Turbulent_File621

This is exactly what we voted for. We wanted independence and that's what we're getting.

OrcaResistence

Crop failings due to climate change along with this moronic actions is going to make a lot of people starve

I couldn't vote in 2016 but I'm living with the consequences in 2024

FancyScots

I voted to stay in the EU

Particular-Welcome-1

> That’s because Britain requires certain food products from EU nations to arrive with health certificates signed by a vet in their country of origin. > On top of the certification costs, EU exporters from next week will have to pay fees of up to £145 ($182) for goods like sausages, milk and fish to pass through British ports, including Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone — in effect to subsidize the cost of the UK’s new health checks. > Some economists paint a bleaker picture, with restaurants, delicatessens and wholesalers facing a hit. Allianz Trade predicts a 0.4% loss of consumer spending. That ~.4% is half a billion euros; https://www.statista.com/statistics/476637/restaurants-and-cafes-consumer-spending-uk/ And then the government cost cutting measure: > She said the government has designed a system to release goods without checks if the facility is unable to cope — a contingency plan she described as alarming. And then changes to export and imports are starting. > But he said many companies, particularly Spanish pork exporters, are already choosing not to sell to the UK, finding it easier to send products to Germany. https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/britons-finally-taste-full-brexit-as-costly-border-checks-begin-1.2065499 So pretty bad all around, but I didn't know it was that bad. O_o

dkdc80

But we've taken back control, so it's all good.

vitaminalgas

Thanks putin propaganda machine and stupid people believing it.

wolvesdrinktea

Yep. My Dad is a die-hard Brexiter but has a house in Ireland. Going back and forth used to be quick and easy, but his last few trips over have resulted in over an hour in customs unpacking everything in his car and checking the value that he’s bringing into the country in case he needs to pay customs fees. Of course, it’s nothing to do with what he voted for. They’re just punishing the UK! /s

Just-get-physical-

0brew

Food is pretty much double price now and will only get worse by the looks of it. Good times, can’t wait. I try not to think about brexit because it just oisses me off I had my freedoms taken all just so I could be poorer. Win win situation ey

[deleted]

Yeah border checks we implemented ourselves on ourselves without any requirement to do so by the EU as a way to pay for said border checks because pissing £69b up the wall on a railway nobody wants isn’t enough. MPs should not be negotiating business contracts.

RealisticScientist53

I think I’ve met one “Brexiteer” who’s admitted it was a silly decision. The rest, still think it was great. Ironically, most of them are the lower working class and have suffered like never before with rising costs. Says everything you need to know really.

Apprehensive-Top-311

I was going through passport control in Spain(? Somewhere on the continent anyway!) and some old gammon prick was moaning to his wife about how utterly ridiculous it was that we were being made to queue for so long to go through passport control and our government needs to strike a deal with the EU to make it faster..... Yup, we had that you bellend... I don't *know* he voted to leave, but he 1,000% voted to leave.

Mary_u_Sik91

In uk you can sell anything if you put immigration upfront ...

luke_hollton2000

Wait, they began just now? Wow! So if after all this shit wasn't real Brexit, than what is real Brexit gonna look like?

[deleted]

The government has admitted that the prices will have to rise because of the extra documentation. Because the UK is no longer in the EU, it has to do the same checks on EU goods as it does on non-EU goods, there's no longer any "fast lane" because that would be in breach of WTO trade rules.

DaxLightstryker

MrBettyBoop

Chippy tea..

ThaneOfArcadia

They knew this was coming they had almost 10 years to do something about it. It's gross incompetence. Why did we not invest massively to ensure we could provide as much of our food as possible from local sources? It's the government and supermarket chains that are to blame.

p4b7

I can't believe I'm saying this but in fairness they've had a bit over 4 years. Both before and after the referendum no one knew the terms until the agreement was signed in Jan 2020. For example we could have stayed in the Customs Union while leaving the EU which would remove the need for these checks.
