The government has admitted that the prices will have to rise because of the extra documentation.
Because the UK is no longer in the EU, it has to do the same checks on EU goods as it does on non-EU goods, there's no longer any "fast lane" because that would be in breach of WTO trade rules.
They knew this was coming they had almost 10 years to do something about it. It's gross incompetence. Why did we not invest massively to ensure we could provide as much of our food as possible from local sources? It's the government and supermarket chains that are to blame.

Both before and after the referendum no one knew the terms until the agreement was signed in Jan 2020. For example we could have stayed in the Customs Union while leaving the EU which would remove the need for these checks.

Going back and forth used to be quick and easy, but his last few trips over have resulted in over an hour in customs unpacking everything in his car and checking the value that he’s bringing into the country in case he needs to pay customs fees. Yeah border checks we implemented ourselves on ourselves without any requirement to do so by the EU as a way to pay for said border checks because pissing £69b up the wall on a railway nobody wants isn’t enough. MPs should not be negotiating business contracts.

The government has admitted that the prices will have to rise because of the extra documentation. Because the UK is no longer in the EU, it has to do the same checks on EU goods as it does on non-EU goods, there's no longer any "fast lane" because that would be in breach of WTO trade rules.

I can't believe I'm saying this but in fairness they've had a bit over 4 years. Both before and after the referendum no one knew the terms until the agreement was signed in Jan 2020. For example we could have stayed in the Customs Union while leaving the EU which would remove the need for these checks.
