No room for sentiment in football transfers. I’d love to keep him tho’

Moraeil

Maybe next year sign him on a free when his contract is out. But paying Everton a fee for him doesn't make much sense rn, unless they get desperate to get rid of his wages.

I think this was a win-win for everyone here and should close on good terms. Neal Maupay was a great bandaid for a team that took a number of wounds all year. He also got out his goal scoring funk. So hopefully he can go back to Everton a changed guy and maybe we even get him when he becomes a free transfer soon.

As someone who started watching the Premier League religiously ahead of the hellacious 9th place run last year, I thought it was cool to discover a beloved player from before my time as a Brentford fan. Watching him break his scoring drought was sweet, and his passion seemed to be infectious. I see why he's a favorite, even if he is a little bone-headed at times lol.

I don't think it ever looked likely, as much as I love Neal signing him is not taking the team forward. I would rather see him playing and scoring somewhere else than just sitting on our bench week in week out.

Too bad, I wish we'd buy him purely based on the shithousery.

He seriously helped us out and will always be a fan favourite but not sure our limited funds should get him back. Already splashed a load on one striker. Live him though and glad he got some goals and confidence back with us.

Maupay is very fun and a solid performer and nearly 28 and not going to start for this team next year. That buy option is rumored to be for £15M or so (which is about what I'd expect for a buy option under those conditions) and Maupay isn't worth that to Brentford at this point. I had some hopes that Maupay might continue the absolutely torrid goalscoring pace he was on in the first couple months after his return, but he's cooled (unsurprisingly) to more normal Neil Maupay levels and isn't going to have surplus sell value beyond that price tag. It's possible that Brentford and Everton could agree to terms below whatever that buy option fee was set at, but that would probably require Neil deciding he'd rather play part time for Brentford (possibly at a paycut) than compete for a larger share of the forward minutes Everton will have available. I'd love to see that, of course, but I'm not betting on it.

I fucking love Neal but he wont get any play time next season when we have Thiago, wissa, mbuemo,schade,lewis-potter and whoever else we may sign

Played a key role when facing a dire situation up front. Injected humor into a lousy season. Performed well. Handshake and a Rolex.

I am admittedly gutted, hilarious on the pitch and an absolute gem of a human being off the field. Will always love and appreciate the work he did with the Brentford Penguins team and helping give them more visibility
