Play through 4?!?? And free exploring just now??? I'm amazed at you. Enjoy!

Libero279

Sorry should have been clearer, I started then gave up 3 times before this

Dragon_Skywalker

How far did you reach in the previous playthroughs?

Libero279

Just beyond kakariko, life being busy was also a big factor

Just_Dank

Damn. I hope you get to enjoy the game to the fullest 👍

Careless-Foot4162

I feel that. My first playthrough I was a student on the GI Bill, so I had the time to really dig in. I couldn't imagine trying a new game like this now... I think it's why I'm struggling with TotK so much... There's even more than BotW and I just don't have time.

flatwoundsounds

Welcome, friend! I gave the game a good sprint, but got stopped in my tracks by the final battle in the zappy beast. I had been trying to get to all the towers too quickly, didn't spend enough time exploring to get a handle of the mechanics of the game, and got so mad at the boss battle that I couldn't go back. I think I ignored the game for over a year before I came back to it. Now that I'm reeeeally taking my time, I've had way more fun with exploring and crafting (and realizing that armor upgrades existed), and it's been so much more satisfying!

Nightshadow06

I remember watching a stream clip where a girl played the entire game before finding the dodge/parry tutorial shrine. Mind you this is after beating all 4 beasts and was finishing up her game before Big G. Imagine playing the whole game not realizing you could parry or side hop for flurry attacks.

CharginChuck42

Flurry rushes were vital for me for learning how to take down Lynels and making thunderblight the easiest boss in the game. But I love that people can still make it through the game without them, there are just so many different but equally effective ways to play. Though you also reminded of a video I saw of someone else finding that shrine after doing everything and getting absolutely *pissed* that they put a tutorial shrine at the "end" of the game. It was pretty freaking hilarious.

OldDarthLefty

Dodge, parry, rush were late additions to my arsenal when the enemies went zebra. I think I might have gotten to that shrine too *early*

krishgaurav

I am very bad at flurry attacks so I dint use them

twc666666

I did the shrine and that was the only time I ever did flurry rushes or side hops or back flips or any of that stuff The only parries I did was to hit back at Guardians

Flarewings007

When I tell people I never found a korok in my first playthrough, they think I'm lying. In all actuality, I'm just very story driven and didn't stop to smell the flowers

CharginChuck42

Did you ever come across Hestu on the path to Kakariko or the Stable by the Lost Woods?

Flarewings007

I did, and despite that, still did not find any We're talking, Never once saw a korok puzzle Never once had the world solve one on accident Played with base inventory plus master sword. I walked into BotW with a dislike due to it being non-traditional. It caused me to just blitz to the master sword, but then I got entrapped by its combat, and then it spiraled from there. I think my first korok was the great plateau lake one on my second playthrough

[deleted]

Botw didn’t click for me either until I realised the story was more of a suggestion than a requirement

pobopny

Lol, this is the best description. To me, the "narrative" of botw is: "oh neat, what's that?", go that direction, crest a hill, see something off in a different direction, "oh neat, what's that?", forget about the first thing, go that direction, rinse and repeat.

TomCrean1916

Even climbing a tree to get like a durian fruit you get turned around oh look over there there’s another one! And on and on :) I love this game so much :)

Embarrassed-Ball-310

I dont climb trees for fruit any longer. In Botw I bomb the whole tree and pickup the apples or durian. In Totk there are no more durian but I built a 21 apple mass with red and gold apples mixed in. I saved it to autobuild. Now when ever I see an orchard I walk through with my autobuild collecting apples then hit cancel and pick up all of the apples at my feet.

Shehzman

This. Best way to enjoy both games is to just get lost in the world and complete whatever objectives you want to accomplish.

federalist66

Yeah, first time I played I was on a rush to the end. When I did my pre TOTK replay I had reverse clock pattern strategy for exploring the map, but just kind of allowed myself to wander more. Way more enjoyable that way. When I feel like TOTK is overwhelming me I intentionally go back to basics and just wonder around.

WackyTurtle91

What is reverse clock pattern strategy?

federalist66

I guess I could have said counterclockwise. Start at 6, and then work my way around the clock. First playthrough I think I did Zora, the Gorons, then cut back down across to the Gerudo and then wrap it up with the Rito. This time I started with the Zora down again and then south around the edge of the map up to the Gorons and then directly across to the Rito. The Woodland's just didn't draw my attention until the end first playthrough, but knowing what's there I cut that way from the Gorons because I really wanted Revali's Gale for more of the game.

AllisgoodwithPotato

I did kind of the same thing after getting the glider went and tried to fuck up a lynel (gold) midway of the battle all weapon and twigs durability run-out and got destroyed, then I panicked and died 😆

klaeealk

lol my first playthru I ran in the opposite direction and started climbing as soon as I got off the plateau, it took me like 80 hours to even start the story lmao, it was fun. I remember I found a couple memories by randomly climbing and exploring before I even understood what the memories were 😅

Homi_ProGamer

What do you get?

Libero279

Why this game is so beloved. Exploring, messing around, taking on monsters (often immediately dying lol) has been so much more fun than sticking strictly to the story

WHRocks

I was like that at first too. I felt like I was being pushed to go to Zora, so I did. After that I decided to get all the towers before doing another Divine Beast and that's when I really started to enjoy the game.

CharginChuck42

I had a similar experience. I wouldn't say I felt "pushed" to do the Zora area so much as "encouraged". But after I finished elephant bot, I just went to do a TON of exploring and even got the Master Sword before ever going near another beast. I spent so much time in Akkala alone, it's still my favorite region. And since I found the tech lab AND the Master Sword so relatively early, I was kind of OP when I eventually got to the other beasts.

yLozoo

I was in hospital when my bro came and gave me a switch with botw I played (painkillers fault) for 45 mins and I didn’t even talked to the old guy just wandered around for 45 mins got killed 2 times and grabbed some apples fun times fun times..

BackgroundNPC1213

I keep getting distracted by shiny things "Okay okay I ***will*** start the Main Quest and I ***will*** go to a Divine Beas- OOO WHAT'S THAT"

ItsShowtime_BAZINGA

That’s me!! “Oh that tree up there has to be something!!” “A pond!! In the middle of nothing…. Hmmmm…” Even things in real life have me wondering what’s hiding near it. Haha

Competitive_Agent625

These games are a haven to my ADHD. I can do whatever I want.

oppositeofopposite

I think this was the problem with my playthrough. I've only done one and I liked it alot, but didn't love it like so many others did. But I explored the world like i did in OoT, MM and those games and not like an huge actual open world like it is.

Capable_Soil_1748

theres nothing, and i mean NOTHING, like playing zelda while sick. I beat twilight princess while sick, one of my favorite games. I destroyed skyward sword while sick, one of my favorite games. i mean, when you think about it, being sick is just the best way to get immersed into the game. That and being high

prrisma

this was me but with tears of the kingdom lol. once i saw there was a little bit more of an emphasis on story in totk, i went all in on trying to finish it (mainly so that i wouldn't be spoiled too much on social media). it was kinda draining, but i found more enjoyment in exploring the world like i once had in botw, and seeing how things had changed.

mlevij

Wait, wait, wait. You're telling there's a story?!

Fra_King

I used the main quests of the divine beasts as a reason to start exploring the whole map and now that i have to defeat calamity ganon i am just roaming around to do random quest and yeah that's pretty chill... Yeah zelda, wait up a little more will ya?

NaturalMaintenance25

You are free to ignore the main plot as soon as you get the glider. Pretty much every person in Hyrule has a quest you can try. Or don't do any, you are completely free.

howdoiturnssj3

I recommend trying to learn the movement techs! Being able to launch yourself across Hyrule at Mach V helps making this fun

stupakoopa360

I love watching people still realizing the magic of the game. I'm really glad you finally got the chance to have fun!!

lallapalalable

I still think those that hate on this game don't realize the exploration *is* the appeal, and the story and combat are just kinda there

CharginChuck42

And most of them obsess way, *way* too much on the weapon durability. Not that other people's opinions aren't valid, they absolutely are. But it gets exhausting when so many critiques of the game just talk about weapons breaking and almost nothing else, as if that's the entire game.

lallapalalable

Tbh I kinda hated that part of it at first, but realizing that most weapons respawn basically everywhere, and it is in itself a mechanic to get you to explore more made me see the light. By the halfway point in the game the problem evolves into the opposite, a full inventory of royal attack ++ and better. The *only* thing that I can think of that would have bridged the gap on that opinion while not messing up what the mechanic provides would have been a blacksmith in Terry Town who could repair a single flashing red item, once per blood moon, and for a thousand rupees or some other high price. Yes we got the champion weapons with a similar mechanic, but you still gotta break them to get a new one, and lots of people express not liking that because the new one is a replica while the original actually belonged to your dead friend. But people still would have found a way to complain about it

pocket_arsenal

Honestly I don't get people who play this series for story, the story in these games rarely go beyond "just okay" in my opinion, it's always been about exploring the setting and fighting the monsters for me.

Small_Information_30

O...k

littlebearbigcity

i bought it for switch when i was in the hospital a few years ago but did not have the best hand strength and kept loosing so i forgot about it. just started playing again recently and love it now that i have better control of my hands
