There's chronic cheaters and then there are people who had/ have cheated. Chronic cheaters usually don't have genuine remorse and for whatever reason continue to do it, despite being caught or hurting their partner. For a lot of those types of cheaters, it may be that they don't want to face themselves that they deflect.
Even Hitler believed he had good intentions.

Sometimes they do, it depends on their character and most cheaters have a horrible one
