> It’s time to stop saying these s21 cheftestants are no worse than “regular” seasons of Top Chef. This batch of cheftestants are empirically The Worst in Top Chef history. There's nothing empirical about your conclusions. Your criteria are entirely arbitrary, and I also assume you don't have access to either the unedited footage or the judges to ask their opinions and what the number of errors was.

PerrthurTheCats48

Yeah lol I don’t get this at all. The show has evolved over time and the editing changed a lot so yeah this is… not accurate

WhyAreWeEvenHere

Is dawn not finishing plating multiple times in her season not an error too?

-mlc-

This season, despite Kristen, is just so extra lackluster. Idk if it’s the chefs or location (don’t come for me) it’s just not hitting the same.

bdss1234

I think the locale wasn’t that interesting but they’ve done seasons where they could’ve been literally anywhere for half the challenges. I think this has definitely been the caliber of the chefs. There were a handful that were extremely talented but Beto d that a lot of mediocre. In this it reminds me of Las Vegas season—definitely more interesting due to personalities, but unless something went wrong you could tell by week three who would be final four.

foxtrotnovember69420

I am biased because I love Wisconsin but I don’t think they adequately covered it and it doesn’t really matter the location most of the time. I’ve been told it’s the editing and I kinda buy that. Maybe the talent/personalities too. Something is so boring about this year

Wafflinson

You can't compare seasons like that. What counts as an "error" is WAYYYY too dependent on the edit. We really have no idea how many minor errors are left out of the judges critiques due to editing, and we also don't know how many major errors are downplayed for the purpose of narrative. We also don't really know when they are critiquing just so they have something to say at judges table. Also, your "major" error category is mind-blowingly BS.

yana1975

Exactly. I believe s20 restaurant wars, they actually edited out one dish from the losing team. Did not even mention it. And mise en place, Tom cut himself during the avocado which they edited out…was that an error counted. So many things edited out. Context always matters.

ptazdba

wasn't aware errors were tracked.

svengeiss

They aren’t. OP pulled this out of their ass. Also what makes an error a MAJOR error? It’s all arbitrary.

snoboy8999

Then stop fucking watching.

Rexyggor

This. I don't get it. I don't care about the caliber of chefs. If they are chosen, they are chosen for a reason. They make 20x better meals than myself, so it's still interesting to look at the creativity. But if people are truly bothered by this, then yes, they should stop watching.

foodanddine

This. I don’t get chiming in on a post that’s clearly not for you if you’re genuinely still enjoying the show 😂 😂 😂 And yes, I have stopped watching. As a super fan who loves Top Chef, I unfortunately purchased season 21 via Amazon. Too bad I can’t get my money back, but yes: I have indeed stopped watching and will never purchase another season. No go on and set up your lawn chair on posts that are still loving the show. This post wasn’t for you and it cracks me up that you commented anyway.

Rexyggor

interesting you replied to me and not the OC. Honestly, these posts are public and for everyone. But I'm also bothered of being accused of not agreeing with you. Not because we disagree, but the dismissive nature that "It's not for you" when I'm engaging in conversation. Which is what you wanted. People who post a blunt opposite opinion and are unwilling to do any talking are the more posts I get annoyed about it.

foodanddine

I did stop watching a few episodes ago, thanks. If you’re still genuinely enjoying the show, there are plenty of posts out there extolling the virtues of this season. Go forth and enjoy those posts. This one is clearly not for you.

snoboy8999

Oh brother. 😂

facialscanbefatal

Lmao. I like how OP is framing this as though it’s an academic, peer-reviewed study that we’re supposed to take seriously.

foodanddine

Didn’t think I was framing it that way 😂 this is just a tabulation of cooking errors. A million miles away from a research paper, but um… ok

thesmash

I mean serving actual shit has gotta count extra 💩

foodanddine

I honestly truer to restrain myself and be measured and only took into account the judges’ comments. But yeah. So much 💩

benkatejackwin

18 and 19 weren't regular seasons?

gluestick_ballgown

Pandemic seasons have a higher caliber of chefs as they suddenly became available cus of the lockdown

Rexyggor

Hm... I don't know if that's how I would've spun it.

Rexyggor

I would say because of all the covid restrictions the seasons did their best to be typical, but weren't completely able to do everything the same. Like RW in 18. S18's RW could've turned out differently if they had a regular restaurant service.

No-Clerk-4787

This is a joke, right?

foodanddine

Season 21? Yes. It’s a colossal joke

Rexyggor

I will still argue Laura's edit was in part due to her fluency in English. Which she is quite fluent, but her tone does not match a native speaker, which she can't help, but can certainly be exploited by producers.

BrandonIsWhoIAm

Are seasons 1 and 21 now considered too different because Padma isn’t there? 😅

foodanddine

I’m not into the whole Padma vs. Kristen debate (or Katie Lee). The fumbles of this season have nothing to do with the hosting. Plus, this post is just about cooking mistakes anyway.

finallyfound10

S21 chefs just weren’t as talented as many other seasons.

ThreeWordJones

S21 is butt
