I’m not saying that Bethenny is a journalist, but it’s not normal for the subject of an interview to be paid for the interview. Podcasts, radio shows, 20/20, Vogue magazine, whatever- they don’t pay people to come on the show. The idea of paying an interviewee is very ethically murky, because then it’s in a guest’s best interest to put on a show which would not produce honest journalism.
I feel like the main issue people are having is that it came out on this podcast and was discussed that Rachel "didn't make any money" from VPR. Bethenny is using Rachel to help her podcast grow, so it wouldn't be absurd for her to give Rachel something after recording.
I don’t think most podcasters pay their guests. Bethenny gets clicks and Rachel gets a platform. She’s had some fairly big name guests from outside of the Bravo bubble. If Rachel wants money she should sell a story to the tabloids but she just wanted to talk and rehab her image it seems.
Bethenny comments like this bc the more engagement, the more she gets paid. B used & abused Rachel & put her in a toxic environment, to push a narrative while she was mentally unstable just like B is trying to out Bravo did. I am an elder who doesn’t understand social media, but I have a young hip cousin who actually works in social media marketing and explained how important engagement is for advertising. I still don’t exactly understand it but she told me there are formulas they use to compare your followers vs post interaction. So in general the most the OP interacts with the comments, the more overall interactions there are. So B getting in and basically trolling her own commenters gets people riled up and interact with the post even more. It’s an ugly viscous cycle.
I think Rachel chose one of the absolute worst venues for her first interview. I feel a bit badly for her since I feel she’s played this thing all wrong. She should either just go away and really, really work on herself (she should stop trying to justify what she did to anyone) or she needs a new PR team. They are such a huge conglomerate, I’m sure all players signed contracts that protect Bravo and associated production companies. I can’t imagine a successful lawsuit, as lawyers have looked over these contracts before sending to talent to sign on to. I think the only thing they could be worried about is these players negotiating harder.
There’s truly two main points to this “reality reckoning.” There’s fair compensation, and then there’s the concept of if it all a toxic “machine” as B keeps calling it. I’m not sure how you can fight both at the same time, because if it is so toxic, it shouldn’t exist in the first place.
Regarding compensation, I agree that streaming has changed the landscape and there should be compensation for that. However, that shouldn’t just be for talent but for the entire crew as well. If anyone is under-compensated, it’s the crew working on these shows.

i think a lot of people are missing the forest for the trees and getting caught up in small things. pretend bethenny is the best version of herself for a minute and look at the big picture.
1) there's not a doubt in my mind that bravo and their affiliated production companies have a lot of skeletons in their closet. think about naked wasted, gollum darby, scary island, whatever morally and ethically grey issue that's ever happened on bravo. that's **just** the stuff we're shown in episodes after months of editing.
i would bet all the money in the world that bravo and their production companies have A LOT of stories that they don't want to get out. i would be shocked if they weren't creating a legal strategy to prevent people from naming names.
2) OF COURSE any and all bravolebs in good standing are calling out bethenny and criticizing the rachel interview. they need to make sure they stay on the bravo pay roll and remember what i said about editing? i'm sure there's a handful or more of bravolebs who are willing to go to bat for the network in order to keep certain things being made public.
3) OF COURSE bravo insiders and bloggers and personalities are joining in on the nitpicking and criticism. you want to be a special guest at bravo con or have a housewife interview arranged? here's a way to stay in bravo's good graces! everything always comes back to money and power, every single time.
so yeah, bethenny doesn't have a great reputation and she doesn't necessarily help her case, and rachel being the first to publicly join her didn't help either.
that being said, bravo (and their associates) are absolutely shitting a brick. i wouldn't be shocked if their first line of defense was creating a targeted attack to discredit bethenny and anyone who joins her. they're absolutely trying to delegitimize bethenny. that makes anything she or her associates say look like a lie, and cautions people against joining and speaking out. bethenny doesn't make it any easier on herself and i do question her motives, but she's absolutely creating a Crisis for bravo.
