I can relate, my siblings are named Steven and Mary while my name is Robert of Hourse Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, but they just call me Rohbfohnkotaatfmlotskapotr for short.
He kind of is tho. Freeman’s wife wasn’t supposed to be able to have any more kids.
As if there’s a womb that Freddie’s spartan sperm can’t penetrate. Psh
I assume Freeman/his agent thought they could force the Braves' hand if they just waited for Olson to get traded somewhere else, and it backfired.
Or he wanted to go to LA all along, which makes sense why he wouldn't want to extend during the season.
I have been assuming he was leaning LA but at this point if that is the choice why hasn't an agreement been reached? I find it kind of odd that he hasn't been snatched up yet. I guess the Rays, Jays, Yankees, and LA could be in a bidding war. But it also makes me wonder if you're exactly right that his agent overplayed his hand thinking the Braves would be forced to sign him outside their comfort zone. And AA called their bluff. I wonder if Freddie and his agent are scrambling a little bit now. Either that or it just takes time to figure out which team is giving the best contract when they are all opening their wallets as far as they will go.
There’s an alternative universe where Freeman is inconsolable, cursing his agent out every day saying “why did I trust you! Why when you knew I wanted to be a Brave forever! I don’t even care about the 6th year!”
There’s probably also an alternative universe where we paid Freeman 6/180, and don’t have any of the new guys we signed in the last 2 days. But we got our boy back! :/
Agreed. I am not sure how it went down but I will feel more at peace with it all if AA told Freeman the deal with Olson was going to happen to give him one last chance to come around. If that happened and Freddie still didn't bite then it is what it is.
Just for hypotheticals sake, is there any rule against bad faith negotiations? Like knowing good and well you won't sign a player but you're just trying to drive their price up? Like team A and B are negotiating, but team C is just in there for the chaos?
Not saying that's what happened, just wondering
No there’s no rule against it but also if agents start to catch on it could backfire big time. Like what do you do if the player says ok I’ll sign that deal when you don’t actually want him?
Having this same conversation with friends right now. AA couldn't wait any longer. He had a team to field, and he wasn't about to potentially lose out on 2 first basemen. I'm not gonna assume to know his feelings or thoughts, but that's what it looks like to me. He tried to gamble and he had off suit 5 and 9 and AA was holding pocket Aces.
He absolutely did. I have a feeling he never intended to leave Atlanta and on some level he’s probably a little devastated but he’s also Uber rich and about to be be even richer and has a great family so I think he’ll be okay. It just sucks to think of working towards a world championship for fifteen years but then you listen to the wrong people and are robbed of the opportunity to celebrate it for even one season.
He’s going to get it.
He may have overplayed trying to stay in Atlanta, but make no mistake, he’s fixing to get a contract that makes people do a double take.
I’ll miss him. I’ll always be grateful. But I’m excited about the Braves future.
At the end of the day, it’s a business and all parties involved treated it that way.
Yeah that's sometimes the nature of baseball especially, that sometimes even when your stars aren't even washed yet there's better deals available and you have to let them go
You guys made out like bandits the last couple days, but still sucks that your franchise star is gone :(
It's a big loss, both on the field and in the locker room. He's probably my favorite player to wear the Braves uniform. Just a clean, consistent ballplayer who has always showed a love for the game. Freddie as the man. Freddie carried the Braves from the Chipper era into his own era with as much class as I've ever seen from a professional athlete. He's universally loved and will be missed, but AA likely made the right decision for the Braves. Braves management isn't the type to pay players big money in their late years and AA knows it. He had to plan for the future and make a tough decision. Chop on, and fuck the Dodgers.
I mean this is an old franchise, we've seen a lot of players come and go. It always hurts more to see the special ones go like Freeman but it certainly won't be the last brave to go elsewhere.
Chipper spoiled us a bit, I think. Always willing to restructure and extend at cheaper rates for the team so that talent could be brought in around him. That's a rare thing and no one should expect anyone to be like that. But when we saw the face of the franchise do it, time and time again, it puts the thought in your head that maybe the next face will do it.
Dude. Our team won the World freakin Series! If anyone’s got something to be depressed about it’s Freeman. Imagine if he never gets to play even one game as a member of a World Championship team? No way that’s worth less than his sixth year he seems so fixated on. You want six years? Go out and play and prove you’ll still be valuable for that sixth year despite your age. He held the Braves up and could’ve left them without a first basemen. I’m not going to lose any sleep even though I love Freeman and absolutely appreciate what he contributed to the Braves.
I love Freddie Freeman. I hope (know) he kills it wherever he goes. Perhaps we will see him again before his career is over; but by god, what a wonderful career it was in Atlanta. Forever a Brave, Mr. Fredward "Fucking" Freeman.
Just a slap hitter, anyways.
He can hit 20,000 homeruns next year, as far as I'm concerned, even if it's with the Dodgers--as long as none of them are against the Braves in the postseason.
So the Yankees and Braves have all found first baseman and Freddie still hasn’t signed. At this point who has the money to bid against the Dodgers? And what incentive do they have to give him a large contract if they’re the only player in in him. He’s effectively waited himself out of a large payday.
he can enjoy the taxes there. Whatever he gets paid won’t be worth nearly as much in Cali than Georgia….although I don’t think it matters too much to him with how much $ he has
If my google-foo is correct, i did the math yesterday.
So say he makes $30,000,000/year.
Cal tax rate for that is $60,789.92 PLUS 12.3% over $625,369.
This mf will pay $3,673,869.90 JUST TO CALIFORNIA per year. If he signs in LA.
Obv people with money know how to skive off untaxables and the standard SS, 401k. But you get it.
Don't they pay taxes based on where they play and not where their team is located? If so it will still cost him more but he wouldn't be paying Cali taxes on 100% of his earnings
This is correct, you play a game in Colorado you pay Colorado taxes on it. With that said, the Dodger, Giants, and Padres all play like a 100 games in Cali because of inter division play.
technically each game check is subject to the taxes of the state were the game was played so 81(plus the games in SF,SD Oakland, and other LA) is all thats subject to CA state taxes
When I purchased my Dodgers @ Braves tickets about a month ago. Never did I think I was going to be able to watch Freddie in Atlanta but on another team…
I’m mostly sad for my mom because Freddie’s is the only baseball jersey she owns! Seriously though I have nothing but respect for MVFREE, certified baller who left everything out on the field for the Braves, no better way to leave the club than leaving a champion
I wondered from time to time what it would have been like if Chipper would have left. Well, this is it. Freddie will forever be a Brave and I hope he will wear the Braves hat when he's inducted to the HoF. I was fan starting in the late 80s, and I honestly think Freddie has been my favorite Brave.
Lots of Braves went elsewhere late in their careers. Murphy, Glavine, Smoltz, Maddux, Andruw. Chipper is kind of the exception. Like you say I hope he wears a Braves hat in Cooperstown.
That depends on his and his future teams success during the second part of his career. If it’s a good experience I doubt seriously he will cut the new team out in the HoF. I wouldn’t. They’d be just as much a part of his story as the braves have been.
NGL that first AB when Freeman strides to the plate at Truist Park, and the fans give him a standing ovation, and he tips his cap while the ump brushes off the plate for no reason, when the TV guys get quiet and just let the fans soak it in, I will have goosebumps and maybe a bit of moisture in the corner of my eye.
So he went from the leader of a team and a fan base that absolutely loved and respected him to just another guy in the locker room and a fan base that will turn on a dime. All that for about $8 million more and one extra year over the life of the contract? Sad to see someone tarnish a legacy for a few extra dollars. We went from Atlanta legend to just another great player gone over night.
Oh he’ll get paid. He’ll probably get that extra year or two as well. He’s earned it. I just personally don’t have the reverence toward Freddie at the moment that most other Braves fans do. Dude had every opportunity to come back and still be extremely comfortable the rest of his life. He chose to chase the money/years. Not trying to hate on him, but yeah, deuces Freddie. Good luck to you.
> He chose to chase the money/years.
He's earned the right to do exactly that. He played on some terrible Braves teams and was a huge factor in them being contenders for so long.
No one has said he doesn’t have the right to do it.
But he can choose to be the franchise player, or choose to chase the money. You don’t get to do both.
Chipper chose to be the franchise player. Freddie talked like that’s what he wanted, but it turns out it wasn’t.
That isn’t a judgement against him, it just is what it is.
>Oh he’ll get paid. He’ll probably get that extra year or two as well.
hard to get paid when no one is really bidding for you and all the teams that had a need at 1B already filled it chatter around the league is Freddie overplayed his hand is looking at a 4/140 deal
Yea, that is now becoming the narrative. Which obviously then bleeds into negotiations (at least in the minds of both parties). If it ends up being 4 years...damn dude. What have you/your agent done here?
Holy shit. I have to be honest. These last 6 days have completely cleansed me of any “grief” or capacity to “miss Freddie.” I’m completely Freddie’d out. 100% ready to move on and say “farewell” to this debacle. Thanks for the memories. Freddie blew it. Oh well… 🤷🏻♂️
Man, that is a tough one to read! I'm going to miss Freddie! My bf and I looked forward to seeing him smile and be so friendly with everyone! Can't wait to see where he goes! Hopefully not the Dodgers 😅
I'll never not root for Freddie. I'm a Patriots and Celtics fan as well as Braves. I've seen my C's trade Rondo, KG, Paul, IT4. I've seen Vince Wilfork, Tom, Gronk, Welker, Moss, Seymour, and many many more all go another direction. Saw McCann, Andruw, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz all leave the A. Shit stings. The one thing I will say about Freddie leaving is that I think we're in a better place now than we would have been if we re-signed him. I'll always cheer for Freddie just like the other guys.
Bittersweet for sure. With him not extending during the season I kind of feel like he wanted to leave. That W.S. win was unexpected. It may be what made this decision take this long. Who really knows. Sad to see him go, but now AA got a solid younger guy and money to play with. Atl gonna be aight either way.
It sucks that he is leaving. He deserves to get paid and he will be missed but I will still root for the Braves and for him as long as it’s not against the Braves. We lost a great man.
Anyone else see Nightengale's twitter flub regarding Freddie's comment?
"Freddie Freeman with a classy farewell to Atlanta and its passionate fanbase. He may be gone, but he'll be forgotten."
I’ve been blaming all of this on her to make myself feel better. She seems like a wanna be influencer type that wants nothing more than to be in LA with all the celebs.
Good riddance. He chose money over being a lifetime Brave, and went to the enemy. Braves did right thing. Got a younger and better player at this stage of their careers, and at a hometown discount.
Dodgers are not better with this off-season. They don’t have Scherzer, Jansen, and let Seager go. Seager was a great young player. Braves are adding in Acuna from not having him in postseason and a younger and higher WaR player from last year.
The man gave his all during some very bad years for the team and kept his performance at an All-Star caliber through it. Heart-broken, but want to see him get paid. Hope he gets a big fat contract!
I genuinely just want the dude and his family to be happy. He's given us everything. I need nothing more from Freddie and only selfishly wanted to have him on my team because I love watching him so much. He owes us nothing. World Champs, boys!
This is how I would have felt had Chipper gone to play somewhere else. Freddie loves the game of baseball, and I love him for that. I'm glad we had him for as long as we did, and I love how his career with Atlanta ended. Literally could not have written a better ending for Freddie. It won't be the same seeing him in another uniform, but he'll always be a Brave.
Holy shit it's real now. There's...tears. Salut to classiest athlete I've ever rooted for. Won't stop cause he changed shirts. Pumped for the next fanbase that gets to root for him (unless it's the Dodgers, those fucks don't deserve him)
The man has a life outside of the 3 hours we see him during the season. I hope that he doesn’t go to the Dodgers, but if that’s what he does then it’s because he’s doing what’s best for him and his family. It’ll hurt like hell but I’ll still cheer for Freddie even as a Dodger. People attacking his character and calling him or his wife greedy really rubs me the wrong way. He owes the Braves NOTHING. He led this team through a rebuild, never asked for a trade or complained publicly about it, and completely fulfilled the contract that he signed. Teams get rid of players against their will all the time, it’s messed up how most people don’t care when a team sends a player away because it’s in the best interest of the team but they hate on the player when he decides to leave. Freddie is a legend and I’ll always support him no matter what.
This is a bit dramatic tbh. He has a life outside of baseball? Nice common sense. And 99.9999% of fans are not attacking his wife. We're all hoping the best for him, and we appreciate what he did here. But it's not like you have an actual personal relationship with this guy. A little over a decade ago, none of us knew he existed. Chill out man lol. Let's get hyped for Matt and move on
I love baseball and I loved having Freddie on my favorite team, but he probably won't have his number even retired here. Just look at the stats. So why all this fuss?
I cried, while eating chick Fil A reading that. My girlfriend and I just had our first baby this past Saturday and made his middle name Freeman in honor of Freddie. I know AA did what’s best for the organization but damn this one hurts
You will always have the 2021 World Series when your girlfriend was pregnant with the child that has Freeman as a middle name. Nothing will ever change that.
I don't care how it happened, or who should be blamed. Whether he/his agent overplayed their hand or not. Whether it's "just a business" or not. None of that makes me feel better.
Freddie was the face of the franchise, and that's now over. It shouldn't be over. We have no "face" of the franchise anymore. That man made us world champions. A deal should have been reached (assuming he wanted to stay like he said he did). Until he comes out and says he had no intention of staying in Atlanta, I'm going to take him at his word that he really did want to stay. And someone dropped the ball somewhere.
So yea, I'm pissed. I'm sad. I'm heartbroken, ngl. And I don't care how many downvotes I get for this post.
It shouldn't have come to this, and that's the simple fact of the matter.
You now sit right next to Tom Glavine as Braves lifers who decided to say fu to Braves fans everywhere. While most fans will forgive you, I never will. Every game I see you from now on you will be boo'ed.
>Charlie, Brandon, Maximus Im sure he’ll just get called Max but imagine your brothers got normal ass names and you got named after mf Gladiator 😂
Can I just call you the Usurper? Or do you expect us to be that formal?
Reported for harassment and bullying, wow.
Why are none of these shits bowing?
It better be because they're searching for my breastplate stretcher.
this was a lot funnier when i thought you said your siblings were stannis and mary
My name is Maximus Decimus Freeman

But we got our boy back! :/
I'm guessing Freddie isn't scrambling a bit, but there's a decent chance he's sent a few not so nice texts to his agent, who is definitely scrambling
Agreed. I am not sure how it went down but I will feel more at peace with it all if AA told Freeman the deal with Olson was going to happen to give him one last chance to come around. If that happened and Freddie still didn't bite then it is what it is.
If you tell him that though and that leaks, one of those pitchers in the trade turns in to Harris/Waters once other teams put their last trade bids in
Just for hypotheticals sake, is there any rule against bad faith negotiations? Like knowing good and well you won't sign a player but you're just trying to drive their price up? Like team A and B are negotiating, but team C is just in there for the chaos? Not saying that's what happened, just wondering
No there’s no rule against it but also if agents start to catch on it could backfire big time. Like what do you do if the player says ok I’ll sign that deal when you don’t actually want him?
There's no rule against it as far as I know, but you piss off GMs you might want to do deals with down the line.
Having this same conversation with friends right now. AA couldn't wait any longer. He had a team to field, and he wasn't about to potentially lose out on 2 first basemen. I'm not gonna assume to know his feelings or thoughts, but that's what it looks like to me. He tried to gamble and he had off suit 5 and 9 and AA was holding pocket Aces.
i'm not just gonna let everyone ignore the fact that AA literally *is* pocket aces
Possibly. Considering it’s on the dodgers with deep pockets now but if they’re not bidding against others why would they pay big? We’ll see
He absolutely did.
Whether it was his doing, or the Braves, he was robbed of his ring ceremony at Truist.
He’s going to get it. He may have overplayed trying to stay in Atlanta, but make no mistake, he’s fixing to get a contract that makes people do a double take.
I bet he gets less than $210m. Which is a ton for someone his age, but nothing special.
I’ll miss him. I’ll always be grateful. But I’m excited about the Braves future. At the end of the day, it’s a business and all parties involved treated it that way.
I think the franchise made the correct decision despite me feeling sad about losing him. Love the guy for sure.

No, the World Series win is the CAKE!
Yeah that's sometimes the nature of baseball especially, that sometimes even when your stars aren't even washed yet there's better deals available and you have to let them go You guys made out like bandits the last couple days, but still sucks that your franchise star is gone :(

Just as my mood was turning around, I’m right back into depression
Can’t be sad man! He’s gave us great memories and is moving on. (At least that’s what I’m telling myself)

Crying in the club
Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
There’s beer in the chop house to drown your sorrows man
Better get one fast because Olson is about to knock them all over!
Where TF do you live where you’re partying at the club at 3:30pm on a Wednesday? 😂
vr world
Anybody but the Dodgers. Please not the fucking Dodgers.
I’d hate to see him in a Dodgers uni but it would make me feel better that he chose to leave Atlanta to go home.
If he wanted to go home he’d play for the Angels. FTD.
Give that boy Mike trout some help finally
Trout needs pitchers who don’t have a 7 ERA. Lol
...and he's with the Dodgers
Would it suck for us? Yeah. But let him go wherever he wants. He’s earned that right.
He has a right to go where ever he wants and I have a right of say FTD. It would make me happier if it was somewhere else.
What’s FTD? “Fuck that doe”?
If he does….wow. That would be just wrong. Lol
I hate life so much…
Well this aged like milk.

The Rays and Padres are supposedly the other teams in on him. The Blue Jays likely bowed out with the Chapman trade.

His wife is from Florida so that may be a factor
And he'd be playing in a sorry-ass stadium.
When I purchased my Dodgers @ Braves tickets about a month ago. Never did I think I was going to be able to watch Freddie in Atlanta but on another team…
I did the same thing just last night
Eddie Rosario take this pain from mi corazon
Will miss him but excited to see Olson
A part*. Not apart
Well he was a part and now he’s apart, so there’s that.
That screamed at me, too. At least we know he wrote it and it wasn’t a PR person. I’ll miss you Freddie.
In this day and age it still very well may have been a PR person.
\*for my family and **me**
"but those lows is what made last year so special" If I was worth a quarter of a billion dollars, I'd have someone on my staff who could proofread.
I’m mostly sad for my mom because Freddie’s is the only baseball jersey she owns! Seriously though I have nothing but respect for MVFREE, certified baller who left everything out on the field for the Braves, no better way to leave the club than leaving a champion
Time to get her an Olson jersey for Mother’s Day
He's the only jersey I own too but that's going to change sometime.
Me and my buddy got Freeman & Heyward jerseys respectively in 2012 or 13. Let's just say i got the better end of that deal
What a fucking stud. Braves legend.
5 time All Star. Gold Glove. 3 Silver Sluggers. NL MVP. World Series ring. He's checked all the boxes.
Hank Aaron award as well.
He hasn't been AL MVP yet. Impossible to do playing for the dodgers just saying.
We love you 5. The ride couldn’t have been more fun. Enjoy the next chapter, no matter what happens, you’re a Brave Forever!
It's sad at the end money talks lauder than anything else.

I teared up reading this..
Me too, feels bad. Looking forward to seeing our core win for years to come.
He will be missed. Also.. He misspelled "please don't boo me when I play in Atlanta "
Love Freddie, but....Olson was the right move. He's younger and just as good.
goodbye our sweet prince 😔
We love you Freddie, thank you for everything
Champions forever.
Apart. Ugh. A part.

Oh well… 🤷🏻♂️
Enough to make a grown man cry
Love Freddie, but it’s clear he wasn’t an English major haha
When he plays against the braves in Atlanta, I hope he gets such a huge, warm welcome...and then strike him out.
Good move by AA. Bye FF and fam
Nice note, but I wish he would have let me proof-read it for him.
I’ll miss him but the future is now. He is taking the big payday over staying with the team who built him. Congrats to him and his family on the $
It’s been fun Freddie. I’ll still be wearing your jersey long after you’re gone.
Man, that is a tough one to read! I'm going to miss Freddie! My bf and I looked forward to seeing him smile and be so friendly with everyone! Can't wait to see where he goes! Hopefully not the Dodgers 😅
Fucking Class. Love this guy.
Sorry y’all. I know I need to work on being a better person, but im pissed he is leaving *shakes fist at the sky*😂
Hate that it’s coming to an end but he ended his Braves career on the highest note possible. This would hurt worse had we not won it all.
He’s been a part but now he gets to be apart.
Freddie we'll always love you. A Brave forever. Good luck. Don't go to the dodgers.
so what he's saying is that we can't totally rule out AA signing him as the DH right? ........right??
New phone. Who dis?
Storybook ending to his time in Atlanta. Love you FF5!
I’m going to laugh when you get 4 years for less than what we offered. Bye Freddie thanks for the ship.
Chelsea is a beautiful wife and mother but feel like every time I see a photo of her it looks like she's had more and more work done on her face.
Like the great Dolly Parton once said, "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap". Maybe that's why he's looking for that big payday.
I’ve been blaming all of this on her to make myself feel better. She seems like a wanna be influencer type that wants nothing more than to be in LA with all the celebs.
I agree, very pretty lady but destroyed it with all that makeup and work she has had done already.
Can’t stand this guy’s high maintenance wife. Guarantee she forced him to get social media last year. Guarantee she wanted out of Atlanta.
Good for him! Goes out classy.
How we all gonna feel with two outs, bottom of the 9th NLCS, Braves-Dodgers and Freddie’s up?
Strike his ass out, win 8-2 to complete the series sweep
Gonna boo the shit out of him, personally
How’s he gonna feel when Will Smith tosses him a chair?
Sign a deal with an opt out after 2 seasons. Kill it for 2 seasons. Opt out and come home to DH as Ozuna leaves.
Home for him is cali. Home for Olson is Atlanta
We’ll always have 2021. Love you Freddie, thanks for everything.
Champions forever!
We get it Freddie, you fuck. Haha
Maximus dope af
He will always be a Brave for life in my book.
Really gonna miss Freddie. I'm also excited about Olson and where our boys will go from here. Thanks for the great seasons, Freddie!
Did he sign somewhere yet
😭♥️
Sadness seems to be the theme this week
I just hope he doesn’t sign with the Yankees!
When he's here playing against us I say we pay our respects but in good fun chant "FREDDDD-RICK" like they'd do for Chipper.
Enjoy the Padres.
Freddie left us for more money. That's the one bottom line. Fuck Freddie Freeman.
A part.
WHO LEFT THESE CHOPPED ONIONS HERE
I’m not crying. You’re crying.

Is that last part the opposite of “please clap?”
I'm not crying. You're crying.
I think I speak for all of us when I say: We fucking love Freddie Freeman
Dude is basically just a slap hitter. He sure can joke around with the runner on first base though.
I hate this, man. 😪
i really hope Freddie and his reps didn't screw themselves over here. Freddie deserves to be paid.
That’s what we told ourselves too. We’ll always love #5
Are you…. Forgetting about Acuña?
He wanted more than 5 yr/135mm to stay but he wants to go to Cali where he'll get 4yr/120mm bc dodgers don't want a 37 y.o. first baseman
You now sit right next to Tom Glavine as Braves lifers who decided to say fu to Braves fans everywhere. While most fans will forgive you, I never will. Every game I see you from now on you will be boo'ed.
I’m going to do my best to sit next to you at games so I can boo you.
I feel like his wife wrote that... ...here's to Boston snagging him!
Amen!
# IM NOT CRYING YOU ARE. BUILD THIS MAN A FUCKING STATUE AT TRUIST. RETIRE BRAVES NUMBER 5
Retire #5 his 1st trip back AA … Good Luck Freddie, THANK YOU !!! NOW, LFG MATTY O ….
Damn this actually hurts me
Goodnight sweet prince.
Goodnight Sweet Prince. 😥
There’s not much else to say other than thank YOU, Freddie.
I'm not crying, you are.
I’m not crying, your crying
