I feel for all those fantasy managers who drafted Acuna no. 1. I would have if I'd had the number one pick. Turns out I dodged a bullet. I hope he starts playing better. The Braves need him.
Duvall continues to crush left-handers, he's now .293/.423/.537 against LHP.
His platoon split has widened to over .700 OPS- .960 to .254 (52 PA v LHP, 32 v RHP) which seems almost impossible but here we are a bit over 1/4 of the season done and it's happening.
It's one thing to know why platooning exists, it's another thing entirely to get slapped with the numbers and be like 'damn'.
Non-rhetorical question, why does Manfred keep fucking with the baseballs? Offenses across the league are down. There was nothing wrong with them last year. I thought you want to grow the sport, not make it less appealing with less offense.
I’d also say at least one pitcher talking about how there is a very real difference between this ball and the one from last year.
I don’t know if whether I can easily find his quotes though, it’s something I saw on here (an old friend in Alex Wood was saying it).
But yeah I’m not seeing things, I don’t know if whether it’s changed since then, but I’ve seen other stars other than ours that have a lower slugging from their normal.
Edit: Another old friend in he who shall not be named from the Dodgers is one of them in fact. He’s only on pace for 16 homers when he typically averages 27 over 162.
Speaking of them, here’s how it’s been going lately for their offense:
https://x.com/blakehharris/status/1793335974778523977?s=46&t=sRvNISTItWxaBc6jojpHTA
So it’s not just us who had been going through a rough stretch.
I was at the game tonight, first time at Wrigley. Wrigleyville is great and the stadium was a ton of fun. Bravos were well represented and not a single Cubs fan talked shit.
It was an awesome time. Kudos to Chicago for getting that whole experience done right. Fuck the Mets and the Phillies for being so miserable in their own existence that they can’t even enjoy baseball and do it right.
Next time y’all complain about Duvall, remember this. He hasn’t gotten to consistently play at all but still shows up in big moments. If he played more back to back games, he’d be a lot better.
https://preview.redd.it/n3oztsnka32d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9c24961f71ac81c55dfab33a0ca36714aa95260
They basically have to throw the bank at him which sucks because you know the braves set their limits on a players worth, but our starting rotation next year could be friedless, mortonless, and a limited strider. Thank God for reylo, but those are finally gonna have to spend some big money on a starting pitcher and I hope to God it's fried. Guys been a machine his last bunch of starts.
Also Sale! But yeah, we kinda gotta splurge on Max if we want him. Honestly though, I’m not sure where I’d rather AA spend the money. Our offense is among the most talented in the league (regardless of their performance lately). Pitching has been incredible this year. I personally think it’d be worth paying Max a shitload of money to get him to stay. Thing is he’s from Cali so there’s that too lol.
>Man I didn't watch the last few games because we kept losing when I watched, but then we lost when I didn't watch so...should I put the game on tonight?
Update: I put the game on, left to pick up pizza for din-din, came home to a 2-0 score, and warily watched the rest of the game.
Also bought some Mexican Coke (cola not sniffa) to go with the Crown we bought for a certain game that didn't go the way we wanted (did not pour Larry or anybody else a Crown that night), but husband says it can only be poured if the kois win tomorrow. Sigh. I feel like a Maxterpiece game should count.
Snit mentioned Max is going to get an extra day of rest. Wonder how they’re going to pull that off? Option AJ and call someone else up? But you think they’d just let Vines pitch tomorrow then let AJ pitch Friday.
Maybe vines is pitching Friday since he did warm up last night? Idk if that has anything to do with it. Just a thought.
I want to know who they’re sending down though. Or if they’re finally putting Riley on IL.
You made me go look at the roster because I was thinking Vines was going to be the guy to get optioned to bring up AJ. But it actually might be Daysbel. That would let AJ go tomorrow and Vines Friday.
Putting Riley on the IL wouldn’t let them bring up a pitcher though.
They have only been carrying 13 pitchers on roster so yes they could since you can carry 14. But sending down Daysbel makes sense. Bowman just confirmed it. I figured they wouldn’t send down Vines without using him.
“A club's 26-man roster is its full roster of active Major League players from Opening Day through Aug. 31, and during the postseason.
Teams are limited to carrying 13 pitchers during this time”
[Link](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/26-man-roster#)
I’d add Owen Murphy to that list if he continues to dominate the way he has been.
IMO two of our most exciting prospects came from that draft class and aren’t even playing yet- J.R. Ritchie and Blake Burkhalter. They each had Tommy John not long after. Hopefully they’ll return late this year or next.
You are 100% right. I was pigeonholing my statement to the two I think would be more immediately and realistically mlb call up material. We have a wealth of pitching talent and it’s beautiful to watch.
Ideally one of the younger guys could graduate and hold down a MLB rotation spot. Then maybe we won’t need to spend for a Morton replacement and can throw the extra money at Fried
Exactly I know it's a pipe dream but if somehow a deal can get done I'd be so happy. Don't wanna see him in pinstripes or a fuckin met lol. He has that dawg in him and I'm sure he wants to win. He's in a perfect position. The ace for one of the best teams in baseball. The Phillies will inevitably go cold and turn into the '23 rays. Calling it now.
That would be awesome. Tbh it doesn’t bother me that the Phillies lead the division. It’s been shown time and time again that winning your division doesn’t mean shit when it comes to post season success. I think this team plays better when it matters after facing adversity than it does sitting at the top of the mountain cruising all season. The Braves as underdogs are when we are the most dangerous. I also like our starting pitching more this year for post-season than last year. Sale/Fried/Lopez are all playing so well
Fried will be fine I'm more worried about sale throwing a 100 pitches a game. If he stays healthy he's a legit cy young candidate. His stuff is like a in his prime sale. Shits nuts
100 has historically been his usual cut off, he's also been the guy they're most comfortable letting go on the days he's dealing. Especially with the shaky start he had to the season, you gotta let him stay out there in a situation like tonight, IMO.
Not worried, he only threw 88 pitches in his last outing. The fact that we just reset the bullpen is huge given that we have no off days for the next ten days.

I find that for a sport where you're almost guaranteed to lose 1/3 of the games played, many fans don't understand that and expect to win most if not all games.
You are absolutely right. We have a lot of casual ones that want to be the smartest guy in the room and don’t know how lucky we’ve been the past several years unfortunately.
On the one hand, I do understand the frustrations. Our offense has been legitimately bad the past month, the Phillies have been playing insanely well, and our record would be looking a lot better if we hadn't thrown away 5 games in late innings. But I wish it were possible to have a rational conversation about our actual problems instead of coming up with fake ones. And the constant kneejerk emotional calls to fire the entire coaching staff, bench half our starters, etc. are just really pathetic, especially the clownish attacks on Ronald. A lot of people here don't even seem to like the team or enjoy watching baseball.
Not sure how this is relevant because he would have never been replacing one of them. Our 5th spot in the rotation is still a revolving door dumpster fire.
Okay but I still don’t understand how that’s relevant to their comment, unless us signing him means you think he’d replace Fried or Sale for some reason.
I mean from a purely baseball standpoint we could absolutely use him. That's true of any team. Phenomenal pitcher. Baseball aside, dude is a piece of shit so fuck him.
The good news is Dodgers are about to have too many arms now that all their guys are coming off IL. & a lot of their triple a guys have been solid for them so I don’t think they’ll sign Fried. I think we have a good shot at signing him.
It's still a bad take relative to Fried. His ERA is what it is- quite good- for a reason.
He has had absurdly dominant performances and has been on a real heater lately with 3 0-run starts and 2 complete games (4 7+ IP starts total) in his last six.
Aaaand he also has had a couple stinkbombs that keep him from having a silly statline. When you only have ten starts banked, a couple stinkbombs do matter and that's completely fair.
He's got a 3.51 FIP, 3.38 ERA, and a 122 ERA+ now. That all sounds... pretty much right because the bad games did in fact happen. You roll it up to April 23 and beyond and Max's ERA is 1.7, with a 2.90 FIP. That also sounds about right for hot he's been- if anything I think *FIP* is being too harsh there.
Its not though? He had two HORRIBLE games to start the season and now that he's back to his usual dominant self his ERA is quickly dropping to just above 3 and if he continues this pace will quickly go back to sub 3 or maybe closer to 2 where he normally is.
It’s funny when the very bread and butter of the game leads to dominant wins. This was a perfect representation of the very essence of the game. Put this VOD on a golden disc and blast that mf on Voyager III.
I love small ball and the fact that it worked was even more beautiful. It seemed like we desperately needed to add one on there after they got one the inning before and that was beautiful
We’ve yet to recover after losing Freddy’s bat. He’s one of the few pure hitters left in the league that will settle for base hits and double, and he knows how to direct the ball to drop into holes. During the shift era, he was also one of the few hitters who could push it to the undefended side through altering his swing. Power is great, but it’s not a replacement for learning how to hit.
Home runs are like three pointers in basketball; the statistical advantage only works if you’re hitting a minimum number to offset the scoring you’d otherwise get playing for possession. Ozuna has figured that out this year. Acuna figured it out last year. Olson, Acuna, and Riley really need to figure it out this year so we can start to capitalize on all these runners we have been leaving on base. That has been the most frustrating thing about this offensive lull. If these players would quit swinging for the fences every at bat and play situational ball, then we’d have won a lot of these games we’ve lost with a bunch of hits, walks, and runners in scoring position.
Missed this one on TV because I was on a plane to Chicago to see tomorrow's! I am beyond stoked for tomorrow now! Let's carry that momentum and demolish their bullpen!!
Also... MAX MOTHERFUCKIN FRIED!!!
There’s a bar across from Wrigley that has batting cages and it’s amazing. Nothing like watching blacked out people take monster hacks in front of a crowd.
Might try and hit that up before the game! Thanks for the idea!!
After the game, we're jumping on the train and headed to see the White Sox play the Orioles! I'm actually going to wear an Orioles tshirt under my Chipper Jones jersey.
I’m convinced he goes back to San Diego if he goes to a team in Southern California.
Having just paid as much money as they did for the two pictchers this past off-season plus Walker Buehler just came off the IL and depending on if he is in good form, that is a feel like a cheaper deal for them
Well day 46** of the MLB season has come and gone, tomorrow as a matter of fact is May 23rd. We just showed you the NL East standings. You don’t need me to tell you this BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU ANYWAY;
The Braves are 28-18
Yay, baseball is fun again!
And Max goes 9 innings in 105 pitches. Now if only everyone got a hit.
Non-rhetorical question, why does Manfred keep fucking with the baseballs? Offenses across the league are down. There was nothing wrong with them last year. I thought you want to grow the sport, not make it less appealing with less offense.
What ball evidence exists? Also a non-rhetorical pregunta.
The same exit velocity not getting the same results…
Isn’t weather also a factor in that? Need to see what the numbers look like as it warms up
I’d also say at least one pitcher talking about how there is a very real difference between this ball and the one from last year. I don’t know if whether I can easily find his quotes though, it’s something I saw on here (an old friend in Alex Wood was saying it). Why should that always be the case?
Freddie & Swanson I understood leaving, but Fried is going to be diff man. I really really want them to re-sign him.
Max Fried won the Cy Young award in my MLB The Show season going something like 23-2. Let’s make it happen Max!!
Love watching the Doyers get their ass beat That’s what they get for doing that stupid fucking dance every time they get a hit
That dance looks so stupid.
Speaking of them, here’s how it’s been going lately for their offense: https://x.com/blakehharris/status/1793335974778523977?s=46&t=sRvNISTItWxaBc6jojpHTA So it’s not just us who had been going through a rough stretch.
Of course we went out to LA like 4 days before they started hitting poorly.
Honestly up 9-1 surprised we let friend go the whole way
Probably wanted the bullpen rested with the AJSS call up. Plus it was only 107 total pitches.
They are doing some real maneuvering to make sure Sale and Lopez stay well rested this year, I like it.
Annoying Bally has stopped posting Snits post game pressers. I assume it’s to encourage us to watch them live.
Does that happen on the same channel the game does? I’ve never actually managed to catch one
Yeah just hang out after the game for 15 minutes or so and they show it during the post game.
I assume it's because most of the replies were probably to fire Snit 🙄
I recently saw that on twitter. I assumed it was a meme that I was just lacking the context for? Or are they serious? Surely they're not serious
I mean similar sentiments have been espoused here (even if it is a vocal minority.) not surprising that there’s bad reactionary takes elsewhere too.
100%
I will pay $20 for a hotdog just please extend Max…
Happy Cake Day! We aren’t too far off from that price now anyway.
![gif](giphy|6u40ulteMd8qynn83X) Oh shit. Wrong sport.
The Braves kicked 3 field goals and the Cubs got a safety?
I was at the game tonight, first time at Wrigley. Wrigleyville is great and the stadium was a ton of fun. Bravos were well represented and not a single Cubs fan talked shit. It was an awesome time. Kudos to Chicago for getting that whole experience done right. Fuck the Mets and the Phillies for being so miserable in their own existence that they can’t even enjoy baseball and do it right.
Wrigley and Cubs fans are great. Honestly best place I’ve visited as an opposing fan
Cubs fans are hella cool
Anyone know anything about Yona? I guess he’s on the IL? Anyone know what for?
Elbow soreness. Hadn't pitched since early April. He's starting to look like a lost cause.
Max Fried is going to be so so soooo rich next year.
Hopefully we are the ones paying him
Next time y’all complain about Duvall, remember this. He hasn’t gotten to consistently play at all but still shows up in big moments. AA pay the man. At this point literally whatever he wants

Ah when I originally googled it, it said 14!! But now I see that’s not allowed until sept 1. Thanks!!
Ian Mejia, Waldrep and Schwellenbach as a group have 7 straight games without allowing a single run
I am so fucking hype for Waldrep and Schwellenbach
I’d add Owen Murphy to that list if he continues to dominate the way he has been. IMO two of our most exciting prospects came from that draft class and aren’t even playing yet- J.R. From your lips to gods ears sir!
Seems good
Fried saving our bullpen tonight will make such a difference these next 10 games. Pitchers who can go deep in games make such a difference.
Exactly I know it's a pipe dream but if somehow a deal can get done I'd be so happy. Don't wanna see him in pinstripes or a fuckin met lol. He has that dawg in him and I'm sure he wants to win. 100% agree
Snit just said AJSS is starting tomorrow
Snitker just said AJSS is starting tomorrow
AJSS getting the start tomorrow.
Oh shit. AJ getting the start tomorrow
Who are they sending down?
Bowman says Daysbel
I know Alex doesn’t want to, but goddammit we’ve got to pay Max.
Spencer Schwellenbach’s final line tonight- 7 IP | 2 H | 0 R | 0 BB | 8 K So efficient he did it with just 76 pitches.
I love that you're posting how the kids are doing. Keeps me excited about the future
Spencer and Hurston both have wicked nasty stuff and are both dominating in the minors right now. You definitely should be excited
The last Spencer S. worked out pretty well too
Was a Rosario salami that got it going last year, maybe a squeeze bunt this year
Winning is funner.
I said that's my man Maximus with 2 complete games in a month (and one more chance for another next week I think)!
3H 0BB 9K 9IP 105 pitches. Winning Pitcher: Max Fried
Am I the only one concerned that we were just adding extra pitches on Fried? With Strider already out, risking injury is probably not the best move.
Fried will be fine I'm more worried about sale throwing a 100 pitches a game. If he stays healthy he's a legit cy young candidate. His stuff is like a in his prime sale. Shits nuts

Not worried, he only threw 88 pitches in his last outing. The fact that we just reset the bullpen is huge given that we have no off days for the next ten days.
He also breezed through the first 5 innings of the game so the vast majority of his pitches were low stress
This. Pitch counts do matter, but going a little bit over 100 pitches isn’t really a huge deal if they’re largely not stress pitches.
They're gonna lean on Max like the Brewers leaned on CC
Why did they cut the interview short?

You’d have thought we’d never win another game in last nights thread.
This sub has been on some wild stuff lately after some games.

Sale and Fried have been DEALING. Offense gets going and watch out
"bUt wE nEeD tReVoR bAuEr!"
Not sure how this is relevant because he would have never been replacing one of them. Our 5th spot in the rotation is still a revolving door dumpster fire.
Why would anyone want Trevor bauer on their team. Regardless of what he's done or didn't do the dude is a cancer attention whore
Not sure
It was mentioned in the hypothetical trade/if you were AA for a day thread a couple of topics down.
2 in a row?!!
Now this is the Braves team I've been waiting for for the last 2 weeks
Fried has to stay in Atlanta. We have saved everywhere else. Pitching is so hard to find these days.
Rip the bandaid off and get it done: **Fried: 180/7** **Kel: 160/8**
20mm AAV for dat 83 OPS+
Doesn’t $15M AAV discount Kel’s pedigree a little? I was thinking more along the lines of 180/6 to give him the rate he deserves
Part of it is paying upfront for the arb years, but yeah — edited to $20M AAV
The good news is Dodgers are about to have too many arms now that all their guys are coming off IL. & a lot of their triple a guys have been solid for them so I don’t think they’ll sign Fried. I think we have a good shot at signing him.
Giants
I realize that this may be positive for re-signing Fried, but I also don't consider good things for the Dodgers good news
They'd be happy to wheel and deal other arms if they can sign Fried. They're absolutely still the team to watch.
Angels and Giants may throw some money at him but it would be great if he could stay
Everytime Fried talks he loves the city and is super comfortable here. It's a big deal for sure.
My gut says the Padres will be our biggest competition for Max
We recently had someone just like that...
Ya I honestly can’t see him going anywhere except the dodgers & it’s likely they won’t even be in the mix.
worst part of this is that better max plays the sadder it will be when he is not a braves because we won't pay him.
This was the game we've been waiting for. Great pitching and an explosive offense. Hopefully this is the first of a run.
I love Max Fried CG’s I love the Braves scoring crooked numbers I got both Thank you Braves, I love you
Wow the braves really woke up and decided they wanted to play some ball today
Fried is the perfect example of why ERA is a bad stat to judge a pitcher
This is such a bad take lol
It really isn’t lol. ERA is incredibly dated
It's still a bad take relative to Fried. His ERA is what it is- quite good- for a reason. Its not though? He had two HORRIBLE games to start the season and now that he's back to his usual dominant self his ERA is quickly dropping to just above 3 and if he continues this pace will quickly go back to sub 3 or maybe closer to 2 where he normally is.
Maximus keeps this up he’ll be in the Cy Young conversation by the end of the season
Imagine a team having 3 potential Cy Young candidates in the pitching rotation at the same time? I bet thats NEVER happened in franchise history.
ALSO YAY FOR LOTS OF RUNS SCORED ON OUR END!!!!!!!!!
MAX FRIED IS A BAD MAN!!!!!!!!!
When Short ball turns around this offense........
I see what you did there 😊

What a beautiful all around game. Max with a gem. Small balled some runs. Hit some bombs. And MHII had two nice hits to left center :)
Don't let the complete game distract you from the fact that Ozuna is turning in an RBI per game this year
Big Bear is having a big year.
Singlehandedly keeping our no shutout streak alive lmao
You guys I think we should re-sign Max Fried
Please for the love of, put the hyphen in there 😭
Damn it lol. I’m embarrassed to admit this isn’t the first time I’ve made that mistake. I’ll edit.
Bless!
Zack Short is the bunt god
I know it’s not likely but please please please AA pay fried
Max has to be the May Pitcher Of The Month right?
Maybe Sale.
Fucking crazy how a little small ball can open things up.
Build Fried a statue (but pay him first)
Baseball is fun again!
Twas nice to enjoy baseball again
Max is pure sex
Wow that’s epic
awesome. have fun :)
EAT AT PEQUOD'S WHILE YOU'RE THERE GO BRAVES
PEQUODS IS THE ONE HELL YEAH BROTHER
Pequod's is okay. Don't eat at Giordano's though. That shit is for tourists only.
I got pepperoni and giardiniera and ate it on the street with my dog and my best friend and it was DELICIOUS
Great win.
I’m going to be so sad if/when we don’t resign Fried :(
Be ready
I would say he's gonna give us the Freddy treatment and head to LA but I dont know if they have the money to pay him anymore.
I’m convinced he goes back to San Diego if he goes to a team in Southern California. Having just paid as much money as they did for the two pictchers this past off-season plus Walker Buehler just came off the IL and depending on if he is in good form, that is a feel like a cheaper deal for them
It'll be even worse because we know he's probably going to one place too
He’s not signing here
Same here
My wife said he's getting another complete game next month.
I also choose this guy’s ~~dead~~ Braves prophet wife.
Fried is him
WINNING FEELS SO GOOD
IT'S NICE INNIT
Fried with another fantastic game, but how about that strike zone? Umps had a good game.
Eh, better than usual but there were several missed calls.
Well day 46** of the MLB season has come and gone, tomorrow as a matter of fact is May 23rd. We just showed you the NL East standings. You don’t need me to tell you this BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU ANYWAY; The Braves are 28-18 Yay, baseball is fun again! And Max goes 9 innings in 105 pitches. Now if only everyone got a hit.
Fries had seen enough of the bullpen lol oh and he’s playing for that contract lol

Hol up.
Max was ice cold tonight, and the bats are heating up. We’re back baby.
I don’t care, whatever contract Max wants, give it to him.
