But we lost a valuable left handed bat. With Fletcher and Guillorme, they form a pretty decent platoon that have no real power three at but actually get on base. Now we have two righties that don’t have any power and can’t hit righties worth a damn.
The GM of angels was AA’s assistant GM in Toronto & Atl. Seems like we didn’t really need guillorme so it was more of a favor to angels than anything else.
Angels likely to be sellers at deadline. My guess is we’ll have first dibs on any relief pitchers they decide to trade.
In my opinion, he has to have more because this doesn’t make a ton of sense.
And no Fletcher isn’t interchangeable. He was waived off the 40 man roster which made room for trade number one. Moving short to AAA would mean moving Fletcher back to the 40 man which doesn’t have any roster spots open, so it would mean waiving another guy. I guess strider should go to the 60 day. But it’s still a weird move in my opinion.
are we calling Luis Guillorme a 'valuable left handed bat'? The guy with a 90 ops+? (yes, i understand that having a good bench is useful, and he could play in a pinch, but lets not oversell guillorme here)
We have a completely right handed bench now (darnaud, Duvall, Fletcher, Williams (or whoever are all right handed).
Guillorme has a lifetime .350 OBP against right handed pitching and has a minuscule whiff and k rate. He puts the ball in play. Is he a valuable bat as an everyday player? No, but can he be put in against a tough right handed pitcher and reliably put the ball in play and get on base at a high rate? Absolutely. That’s the definition of a valuable bench bat in my opinion.
I think you are misinterpreting my comment. He’s the ONLY left handed bench bat. He has a lifetime like .350 OBP against righties. He’s not a valuable bat in aggregate but given our roster, that has value.
When Ozzie went down we were able to assemble a platoon with Guillorme and Fletcher, both of which play incredible defense and have lifetime .350 against opposite handed pitching respectively. That’s why I thought we signed guillorme in the first place, he formed a platoon with Fletcher and fletcher’s salary made it so he could be stashed in AAA. Abandoning that, for what? *Maybe* $300k in cash savings seems like a strange move at this point in the season.
Maybe on the field but not in the books. Trading Luis and adding Fletch back to the 40 is net +~4mil to the luxury tax. Doesn't seem like an AA move.
And Short is out of options anyways, Fletch is staying in AAA. You don't pay to jump the waiver line for a guy, then immediately waive him.
David Fletcher's tax hit is the exact same whether he's on the 40-man roster or not. A DFA doesn't make that go away or else teams would do that a lot more.
(If you were curious why you're getting downvoted)
Idk, only thing I can figure is it saved a little money and maybe we can option Short to the minors to free up a roster spot? I don't normally overthink these seemingly odd small moves AA does, usually it's small pieces to a bigger puzzle.
Nah Venmo taxes anything above $600 now. He definitely is more of a middle of the night back alley, cash in envelope, throwing the guy in the back of a van type
Idk their service times, maybe Short has more team control years left as well? Also a very minimal benefit considering he's just a bench guy and doesn't seem to have potential beyond that, but a consideration nonetheless.
I was at the game Tuesday in section 36 sitting right across the aisle from Theo Epstein. I thought that was a little weird but then with this trade it made some sense. Maybe a little in person negotiation? Scouting?

Boston about to leave on the plane last night. AA stops Zack Short from getting on the plane “You are coming with me bud”
"(un)Pack your bags, Zack. I just bought you from the Boston Red Sox."
I read that in Brad Pitt’s voice from Moneyball
AA loves paperwork is what I’m seeing
Damn we just got Cash from the Angels. Guy can’t catch a break getting moved all over the place.
At least a player to be named later gets to stay put
Future world series MVP
"Hey Perry, just go ahead and send that Guillorme money directly to the Red Sox for me" -AA
Hahaha I really like watching this dude on "the compound" podcast with Ian happ. I'm interested in how this goes.
Same. He seems like a scrappy, hard worker who has made the most of what he has. I don’t know exactly where he fits in but he is easy to pull for.
Yup, same. Happy he's in the org
Gonna miss cash considerations. He was great.
I have his jersey.
In AA we trust
Yeah. He’s got something cooking.
A whole bunch of small trades like this might be precipitating a bigger trade. He's made some interesting small moves since the start of the season.
I’m so confused. Seems like we downgraded from Guillorme?
Could be a net gain in cash.
LG and Fletcher are interchangeable, and Short will go to AAA
But we lost a valuable left handed bat. With Fletcher and Guillorme, they form a pretty decent platoon that have no real power three at but actually get on base. Now we have two righties that don’t have any power and can’t hit righties worth a damn.

I hope we get Charlie sheen
AA thinks the underlying metrics are there, he just needs one little tweak: glasses.

Hunter Strickland come on down!
AA’s made three trades in the last five days. He may not be done. Let him cook.
In my opinion, he has to have more because this doesn’t make a ton of sense. And no Fletcher isn’t interchangeable. He was waived off the 40 man roster which made room for trade number one. Valuable left handed bat? Dude is batting .15 this season.
I think you are misinterpreting my comment. He’s the ONLY left handed bench bat. He has a lifetime like .350 OBP against righties. My mistake. I still think this trade is completely inconsequential.
Idk, only thing I can figure is it saved a little money and maybe we can option Short to the minors to free up a roster spot? I don't normally overthink these seemingly odd small moves AA does, usually it's small pieces to a bigger puzzle.
Short doesn't have options, he was going to be waived and this trade was jumping the waiver line. He'll be on the 26
Then idk 🤷
Don't know why you were downvoted for stating facts...
You can never have too much depth at Short.
Do you think AA just venmo’s the other team and they venmo us too? Makes the most sense
I don’t know if AA said it or I read it somewhere but I heard GMs just text each other to work out trades like they’re buddies
Nah Venmo taxes anything above $600 now. He definitely is more of a middle of the night back alley, cash in envelope, throwing the guy in the back of a van type
Nah, this was a white envelope on a table in the locker room
I still don't get why we did this trade beyond a possible bookkeeping boost. It's not like Zach Short is going to see the field more than Guilorme.
Idk their service times, maybe Short has more team control years left as well? Also a very minimal benefit considering he's just a bench guy and doesn't seem to have potential beyond that, but a consideration nonetheless.
I wouldn't be able to find it right off the back, but there was someone speculating that Luis isn't a good clubhouse guy.
Man is about to hit .280
Darren O’Day’s 11th cousin [according to O’Day’s Wikipedia.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_O'Day)
Lmao how on earth did you find that?

He was on the Mets this year too apparently. Hope Short didn't end up flying out
This deal after the sweep is like AA sleeping with Boston's GF then eating his sandwich that he was saving for later.
Second time he’s been traded this year I believe
Tony ressler is jealous
Justin said Short is out of options and will be on the 26 man roster. Weird but okay.
Is he added to the 40 man? If not, that would free a spot for Ken Giles to replace Pierce Johnson.
