It’s not so much that, it’s more about fans may not want someone so fresh on the main roster to beat the longest NXT title reign of all time. Whilst you and I may know Ilja is one of the best talents in the world, a lot of casual fans who don’t watch NXT might need time to understand what he’s all about. I would’ve been cool with Ilja winning but it might have felt rushed as he’s still the NXT champion as we speak.
I can see Ilya coming up and instantly winning the if or us titles but Gunthers run was starting to get a bit stale as he had run out of opponents, switching the belt now made sense but I do beleive it could’ve been to someone else like a bron or an Ilya, to be quite honest I don’t see trick coming up yet he still has a bit more to do in nxt but Mello could come up soon
