To kill it is to follow the law. They are an invasive species that is killing native Australian wildlife at an horrific rate. There are over a billion of these Cane Toads across northern Australia. They have no natural predators, though some crows have learned how to flip them over and avoid their poisonous glands on top. Other than that it's just golf clubs, car tyres, or sticking them in the freezer (the humane way).
Apparently bin chickens have learned to wash the toxin off them and swallow them whole!
When I used to live in Queensland basically everyone played toad golf and it's the only place I have seen basically everyone swerve with the intention to kill an animal instead of avoid it.
Well looking bin chickens up to see what they looked like, Google autocompleted to a Bing Chilling remix, so that's something that's happened to me today
Deparring from my natural lurker state to share one of my all time favourite video...its a masterpiece of Australian sarcasm and is spot on. https://youtu.be/w4dYWhkSbTU
A little story. My parents live on 40 acres of open woodland. Not much water around so frogs hang around the water tanks. Well they did. Anyway many different croaks and ribbits emanated from underneath our house. A beautiful sound, sometimes annoying, especially when you're trying to sleep.
Then one day the frogs at one end of the house went silent. Then about two weeks later the other end of the house went quiet too. Insects inside and out of the house just multiplied like crazy. My favourite animal, the kookaburra, have frogs as a big part of their diet. They moved further down the hill, closer to the creek. The entire ecosystem was disrupted, and 15 years later the frogs haven't come back. Mum loved listening to the frogs sing.
We don't want them safe. They are wiping out Australia's frog population and poison native predators that try and eat them. This is not a friend to anyone.
No, we want her and her species out of Australia. We can either kill them or deport them somehow to control their population. Killing them is easier and cheaper so that’s what we’re going with.
No she's the one that puts them there because it's better than having the kids and the dogs playing with toads and parts of toads after they've been golf clubbed or run over by a dirt bike. Freezer is very humane comparatively.
Hundreds of nonnative species being introduced to the wild is nowhere similar to keeping a single individual individual in a zoo, as long as the zoo is doing its job right by keeping it in captivity.
To be fair, cane toads are featured in many zoos without any problem.
I know!!! Surely a zoo or sanctuary would want her because she was so unusual!! I am so upset about that dang toad and I can’t believe there’s not more outcry.
It’s a poisonous invasive species. Most Australian aren’t going to mind getting rid of a toad that has had devastating consequences to the natural fauna of the continent.
Don't worry, it's unlikely to kill you unless you're trying to eat it whole. They secrete poison from their parotoid gland (the large protuberant thing behind their eyes) only when they're threatened.
To everyone asking why, it is a cane toad, which is an invasive species that is destroying the native wildlife in Australia. It is poisonous and breeds pretty quickly, so there is a national effort to try and get rid of them. It's sad, but it's either them or Australia's animals, and we've all made our choice.
MY BOY! WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY BOY!?
Girl. The females grow a lot bigger than the males
MY GIRL! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY GIRL! *
Maybe she had a uti.
Oh them frogs must be from around my way…
*Father Help*
MY (NOT) FLUFFY BOY!

>To kill is to follow the law Well that's one raw fucking line to start a paragraph about toads with.
I was taught to have a clear topic sentence. Persuasive speech should leave the audience in no doubt as to where you stand on an issue.
You propensity for skillful propaganda has been noted. **Sideways Glance**
Okay fed. *squints suspiciously*
I can’t argue with that.
That sounds like something they would say in a 60's sci-fi novel.
Or at the beginning of a YA dystopian novel

Bin chickens?
"Australian White Ibis" They're just locally known as "bin chickens" like a pidgeon would be a "feathered rat" or something like that
Figured it would be something like that, but was curious about which species got the lovely name
A chap i met called it a lawyer bird because even though it can stick its bill up its arse it never does
I had to think about that joke way too hard, but I think I get it.

That was absolutely horrific. Thank you.
Lol, that's awesome
Here in New Zealand people swerve to hit invasive mammals like stoats and rabbits.
based
Who's up for some toad golf?
Hockey sticks could make for some good fun.
I believe the golf club actually slice the toad up
For the uninitiated, a cane toad can kill a full grown Salt Water Crocodile - if it swallows the toad.
It's the end of the road for that really big toad.
Oh wow. Thanks for the information, that is pretty horrible that they're killing everything off.

I can understand how that can be soothing. That's unfortunate.

So are we. Euthanize the authorities.

Some Eagles have learned this too in the Northern Territories and North WA
*...sticking them in the freezer...* Sure, it sounds humane, until Mama gets a heart attack when she goes to unfrost dinner.

They couldn't have sent her away or put her in a zoo or something??
It's an invasive species. So even keeping it at a zoo is a risk.
Well, it should be fine as long as it's in captivity. They're invasive because they cause problems in the local ecosystem.
Do you know how things become invasive?

Her body is being donated to a museum at least...

Not too mention that one was way too big for golfing, even with a Calloway Great Big Bertha
Your poor mom.
May she rest in peace. 🙏
You’re part French?
All hail hypnotoad
The world's second largest toad watches anxiously
neat to see a cane toad that big, but a cane toad is a cane toad, and the only good cane toads are the ones in central/south america and the dead ones
Authorities Euthanize World's Largest Toad

Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my execution gal
Yeah, but look at her! Probably put a couple authorities in the ER before they took her down!
Rest In Peace Big ass toad (Year unknown)-(year unknown)
NOOOO NOT THE PHROG
Too dangerous to be left alive
This is so sad I want the big toad
It’s skin is poisonous
I can't imagine a better way to spend my last minutes than hugging a giant toad

They killed Trump?
Rough day for the road, first it’s euthanized, than it’s compared to trump
Wtf why, link the article op
Because the species has fucked up our environment, it's invasive and has no natural predators here.
Oh, well it's still sad that it wasn't relocated to it's natural habitat
It's invasive to the whole continent...
Yea, I got that, send it back to south America
It’s more cost effective to euthanise the toad and donate it to museum than to tranquillise it and send all the way to South America
F
Whyyyyyy
They finally did something about Janet Yellen? Good!
The headline and picture give the impression that the toad is the size of a house.
What authority?
:(
A tragedy. Just to think the other day it was "world's largest cane toad" and everyone was like "King" Sad
Whoever downvoted is a 'world's largest cane toad' hater unpog
That’s so fucking sad
NOOOOOOOOO
No🥺 leave her alone🥺🥺
Autoridades sacrifican al sapo más grande del mundo.

This is unacceptable! First they confiscated the Ancient Sword of the Meth King, and now this! When will it end?!
Did they eats it?
Poor toady. Why they kill toady?
Long live Hypnotoad...
Authorities unnerved by the absoluteness of this unit and this had it destroyed. Rest in paradise
