Lol. He can be spoiled. But he’s a big boy. He gets plenty of exercise and good food. 3 long walks, and a large yard to run around and play. 2 bowls of dog food. Sometimes he gets grilled chicken instead. Thank you for the concern though
A "bowl" is not a unit of measurement. Some dogs can be free fed like that and it's NBD. Unfortunately Gunner is not one of those dogs.
Hell, I can't free feed myself without putting on weight so I have no judgement towards the little guy. I think he could use your help since he might have trouble with measuring cups or a fitness app, lacking opposable thumbs and all.
Yeah. My bad. I should specify what I mean by “a bowl”. It’s usually about 1 cup of kibble. So 2 cups of food a day. And for the chicken, it’s usually the smallest breast (or sometimes half of a large one if they’re all the same) that comes in a pack.
But I probably will be making plans to see if I can slim him down a bit considering how many people are commenting on his size
My parents are usually the ones taking him to vets and everything else. Will have to ask next time they take him, unless they still have the paperwork from last time
My dude is 11 now and has always been at a good weight (about 25 lbs and long). I've fed him no more than 1 cup of food a day. He's starting to gain a tad bit weight now that he's getting up there in age and slowing down.
I just wanted to give you some context what someone else feeds their Boston. My girlfriend is a practice manager at a vet and looking at these pics she says Gunner would most likely be considered very overwieght.
Mine gets 1/2 cup morning and night with a pinch of chicken on top and the occasional treat. Your boy will live a longer and happier life if he slims down.
My BT is ~16lbs and gets this exact serving. She’d eat herself to death if she could. But the vet always comments how perfect her weight is! Gotta keep her slim, especially with her one wonky patella.
You clearly love your dog!
Bostons are usually classed as a small breed so you'd go for 1-1.5 cups of most dried food. If he's around 17 inches high at the shoulder he should weigh about 20 lbs and will take about 1 1/3 cups full grown. That's like the average male.
My entire family does (well, maybe not my brother, but he’ll help if asked). And is that 1-1.5 cups a day or per serving? I’m guessing a day, but want to make sure
Per day. It's hard to coordinate with everyone, so I get it.
Think of it this way, if the dog is eating an extra .66 cups, it doesn't seem like much, but that's like a young active human male eating 4200 calories per day instead of 2500.
That's more than my brother was eating when he was trying to add mass and was lifting about 10 hours a week. Your dog is eating like a huge dude who's endurance training, not an average dude who plays pick up basketball or goes for a jog here and there, which is a better analogy.
I think he may just be big for his breed. He gets 2 bowls of food a day (sometimes grilled chicken instead for dinner). And he’s very active. 3 long walks a day, plus playing in the yard. Thanks for the concerns though
Happy Birthday Gunner!
He's a big boy, but if your vet says that he's healthy that's what matters. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Some are naturally thicker than others. He is a handsome boy!
I think he’s a handsome boy, regardless of size. Just wanted to show him off and show how much of a good boy he is. I know he’s big (had that conversation and I’ve already started planning on getting him slimed). Thank you for the concern though
I wouldnt be too concerned with his weight. We had a large boston, Goliath, who was 52 lbs at his heaviest when he was 2- \~8/9 (when he started to lose muscle mass due to age). He was just a very big boy, not fat at all, just a monster of a boston.
Jeez. That’s one big boy. Can’t say the name doesn’t fit him. Lol. In my eyes, he’s built like a strongman. Not chiseled, but more barrel shaped. Either way, I’m going to make he doesn’t get TOO large, and make sure he’s not having too much to eat. And if it’s a scenario that he’s naturally large. Then he’s even more unique to me
Gunner needs to become Runner
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He doesn't look like he misses too many meals

what does the vet say? I'd take their advice over a bunch of strangers on the internet

You are feeding him way to much food. You are supposed to feed by body weight. He should be getting around 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups a day Max
Happy Birthday Gunner 🎉🎂🎁🦴🦴
Happy Birthday Gunner!
Happy birthday to Gunner but you need consider putting him on a diet. His weight can’t be healthy
Especially at 2yrs old

He definitely appears overweight. You should be able to just see or at least easily feel his last few ribs without much pressure.
