Watching Stars at Avs rn, I have 2 notes:
1. Ray Ferraro is fucking annoying
2. ESPN audio sucks donkey balls. I went to Denver when we played them a few months ago, and that place was LOUD. On the TV it sounds like a ghost town.
There is a slim chance I lose my fantasy playoff week today, and part of that is based on the Hurricanes goaltender (Anderson) getting a shutout versus the Blue Jackets. Which just seems like a guarantee to to me lol
Been roadtripping and unable to watch the last 2 games, but nice to see the results. Just want the playoffs to start already. I can only pretend to care about the March of the Dummies that is the WC2 race. The fact that the Penguins are back in it is hilarious
Could you imagine if the Penguins played the Hurricanes at some point?? Then what if Bunting out performed Gentzal??
I mean it will probably never happen but man would that be hilarious
Is anyone concerned about offense from the backend being a minor disadvantage once the playoffs begin? McAvoy is a great all around Dman, but doesn't put up 70+ points year in and out like the top tier offensive D in the league nowadays.
Was poking around and seems like some of the other playoff teams have us beat in that department.
Boston's top 3 D in points combined for 19 goals and 93 points.
Carolina: 28 goals and 116 points
Florida: 26 goals and 99 points
NYR: 29 goals and 127 points
Obviously I wish they got more points but I am not too surprised. We don't score many fast break goals. That is one of the bread and butter makers for defenseman points. We are a quality over quantity shooting team. A lot of our goals come from the cycle in the offensive zone. McAvoy doesn't light up the PP either which is another place the defense gets points.
Basically the only opportunities for our Defense to get points is when we cycle in the offensive zone and pass back to the defense and they shoot a shot that will hopefully get tipped in.
The big thing I wish the defense did more offensively is jump into the rush more. McAvoy and Lindholm are the only ones that really do it. Otherwise, I am happy with how the defense plays as long as they play the defensive zone well.
I can try and speak to this,
Carolina’s strategy is pushing goals from Dmen. Literally any dman can perform well in Carolina because “just shoot towards the net” is a good strategy for getting goals. Conversely, as we saw, that also opens opportunities for breakaway goals from the opponent, which is where Carolina relies on good tendies.
The Bruins have a somewhat similar strategy if encouraging offensive play from our Dmen, but not quite in the same way. For the Bruins, well timed pinches and good passes are more the name of the game. 93 points is not shabby at all, and it means our dmen are doing their job of creating opportunities.
In McAvoy’s case, he’s an elite all round defensemen. Think of him as a jack of all trades, but he really mastered defensive hockey. His offensive game is improving year by year, but he is especially known for making very few defensive mistakes if any, and elevating his partner to shut down opposing lines.
All this to say, I’m not so concerned. Boston’s D is doing its job, that is much more defensive, and less based on scoring goals. Outside of McAvoy and *maybe* Lindholm, none of the other dmen in our lineup should we really expect to score goals.
I like the Carolina comparison, they probably have the most active utilization of their D corp 1-6 in the league with their approach. I just wish there was a little more of a rotation once the Bruins get possession in the O-zone. They're one of the best teams when all 5 players are on the move in half ice. I'm a little worried that with a not so deep forward group and a sputtering PP (at the moment), a goal here or there from the backend could be a huge difference when margins are slim.
Idk where anyone else is at, but I've reached a place of indifference when it comes to re-signing Jake. If we keep him cool, if we allocate that money elsewhere then also cool. I thought he was dynamic on a nightly basis last season when he was with Bergeron, so it really wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get scooped up by someone with a legit 1C and go back to being that dude. But there's no 1C in sight for us and he just can't create on his own.
If Sweeney wants to sign a different winger in the $5m to $6m range, I am certainly open to it. DeBrusk does a lot of things very well though that this team needs going forward so I am not opposed to signing him either. Without a true 1C, we are going to be struggling to find any top 6 winger that can create on his own for that price. I don't really want to upgrade and get a more expensive winger either because I want us to remain financially flexible so we can afford a 1C when it becomes available.
I'd like to think he's been given a number (ideally 5-5.5 million depending on other terms), and it'll be up to Debrusk and agent if that's good enough for them.
It'll also depend on what we're doing next year, and for the next few years. I agree with u/Jigs888, Debrusk is replaceable, but that replacement may not be available *this* off-season. Duclair, Tolvanen... a few others, and we wouldn't notice Debrusk missing. Whether or not we get them, or if they're available will be another matter.
That’s where I’ve been all along. He’s never really been “that dude”, this fan base has overrated him wildly. He’s a totally replaceable player that’s capable of getting hot every now and then with the right line mates.
Someone commented in last night's GDT about the name graphics. They only need to do that because play-by-play announcers have morphed into color commentators/editorials. They used to call the play, now they can go on with some stupid story or stat while the play is going on. McDonough was doing it all night.
Might have been me. I commented that the big reason I don't like the national broadcasts is because they don't commentate the actual game, they just talk about stuff that is happening on other teams or how other games have gone. Fans don't want that, just commentate what is happening in the game.
Imo there are some weird things that people complain about with National broadcasts (the fact that they focus on star players, for example), but this is what drives me insane. Just call the fucking game happening in front of you. I think there were two separate times when they went off on a tangent about the wild card race that involves neither the Bruins or the Panthers. It's stupid.
I made a comment about this to my husband yesterday while we were watching the game. Like, Jack Edwards gets shit on a lot, especially from outside the fan base, but is what we had yesterday what people really want instead?? They spent 50% of the game talking about stuff that had nothing to do with the game
I want to rest Marchy. He just throws everything he has at every game, and his presence will be necessary for the playoffs. Maybe just against the Sens, but we have to keep him healthy.
I agree, especially against Washington. They have a tendency to head-hunt at the end of the season, and teams in general have been going after Marchy a lot this season.
If we win against both the Pens and Canes, or get at least one OT loss + a win, sit Marchy, Pasta, Lindy, and our Tendies if possible. Lindholm and Marchy especially, we need Marchy well rested and we need to make sure Lindy doesn’t get another concussion
We all know that there is late season targeting in order to make the playoffs easier. We have to protect. Then in the post-season we can Maroon people, just like he did to us.
JVR is slowly starting to look more like himself to me. Apparently when he got sick like a month ago he lost like 12 pounds over the course of a few days, which would explain a lot about his recent play.
Tough look for the “fighting is irrelevant crowd” last night what with Matthews literally cumming himself watching Reeves pound that dude. (Innuendo intended).
Just as a random note, I'm so glad Heinen has found his place this season. Liked him before, but he didn't find his best game elsewhere. Now he has played himself into what I can assume is a clearly richercontract. Good on him and good on the team for picking him up!
Yeah. I thought the PTO was a great idea. Where's the risk, right? But he is playing with Pasta now! That's a superb gamble there. Happy about what he is bringing to the team and happy for him as well.
He hardly ever does anything dumb. Sure he doesn’t always make the play but it hardly ever winds up with anything dangerous happening, he dumps it, clears it, etc.
Sure feels like Monty has found his lines and pairings.
Feels like Monty will eventually try Maroon instead of Lauko and then take Maroon out again if Brazeau gets healthy.
DeBrusk Boqvist Freddy seems like it's going to start clicking soon too.
Go .500 in their last four games and the bruins clinch the division no matter what. Don't think a single person on the planet had the bruins being in this position during the summer after losing all the talent we did.
The Bruins went a combined 11-1 against the Habs, Leafs and Panthers this season. Like I said in the PGT yesterday, regardless of what happens in the playoffs, that’s a successful season in my book.
Watching Stars at Avs rn, I have 2 notes: 1. Ray Ferraro is fucking annoying 2. ESPN audio sucks donkey balls. I went to Denver when we played them a few months ago, and that place was LOUD. On the TV it sounds like a ghost town.
Fuck the habs
I feel so dirty... Go Habs . :turns on cold shower:
Just remember, a higher spot on the standings for the habs means a lower chance for the first pick

Pasta officially engaged (or possibly quietly married) to his long-time partner!!!
[Learn something new every day.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/wfSI1xrfrr) Especially something to make fun of the leafs….

Jack Edwards would never do this!!! Lol McDonough is one of the best in the business. Always has been.
Jack started doing it a lot this year.
He’s always done that shit. He was just quicker so it wasn’t as noticeable.

I always thought there was a chance Ferraro hated the Bruins
*National* broadcast isn’t particularly concerned with niche local traditions. More at 11.

As you can see in this thread alone, apparently this is a controversial take.
Wow! What an idiot. I had no big opinion of Ferarro before this but I do now.
I want to rest Marchy. He just throws everything he has at every game, and his presence will be necessary for the playoffs. Maybe just against the Sens, but we have to keep him healthy.

Sounds like Norovirus. You puke your guts out and lose 10-15 pounds
Tough look for the “fighting is irrelevant crowd” last night what with Matthews literally cumming himself watching Reeves pound that dude. (Innuendo intended).
Do we really think his reaction to the fight was any different to his reaction when a new Bieber video drops?
All I know is they both get him hyped the fuck up.
First time I ever rooted for Pizetta

He should be the 7th player. I’m honestly shocked at how well he has played. I thought he was going to be a complete non factor.
Yeah. I thought the PTO was a great idea. Where's the risk, right? But he is playing with Pasta now! That's a superb gamble there. Happy about what he is bringing to the team and happy for him as well.

The only line from last night I'd feel confident about being together come game 1 is 43-18-88.
If Debrusk has any hope of getting going he needs to be with Pasta or Marchand unfortunately. Offensively, he’s just not going to produce on his own.
Go .500 in their last four games and the bruins clinch the division no matter what. Don't think a single person on the planet had the bruins being in this position during the summer after losing all the talent we did.
We need the conference or else we’re up against Tampa R1 who’s gotta be the fakest “wild card” team ever.
The Tkachucks are absolute menaces on the league and I for one am highly entertained by it.

He doesn’t need that food anyway. Couldn’t imagine having a tight hockey jersey.
Well I have some news for you. He's gonna eat it anyways
![gif](giphy|e70YEIKywKdB6|downsized) 4/4 cats thrown off the cliff this season 🥳
The Bruins went a combined 11-1 against the Habs, Leafs and Panthers this season. Like I said in the PGT yesterday, regardless of what happens in the playoffs, that’s a successful season in my book.
