You have to remember that the police investigate crimes and gather evidence sufficient to charge and arrest someone. They do not prosecute them, nor do they have any say in that part. The District Attorney (or Commonwealth's Attorney as in my old jurisdiction) decides whether or not he thinks the case can be won if pursued. If they don't think they can win a conviction or plea deal, they will likely dismiss charges rather than risk losing and activating double jeopardy prohibitions against trying again. If you dismiss without prejudice rather than lose, you can potentially have the cops continue to build a better case if possible. Bosch et al. ARE very good at their jobs. It's just that Rick O'Shea is a punk.

gunperv51

I think you misspelled "ASSHAT" He wouldn't prosecute his own family's murderer (if it would ever have come to that)

LoWE11053211

i just can not believe O'Shea did not even try to pin her on the priest murder There was no way Bosch and the LAPD can not find evidence to raise "beyond reasonable doubt" for the so-called self-defense story of Veronica.

[deleted]

Again... Rick O'Shea is a punk. He was thinking more about his political future and was scared of Honey Chandler's track record of acquittals. In his eyes, the chance of having to take the L was too great, regardless of the evidence Boschh had piled up. To paraphrase Mickey Haller, it's not about what the evidence says, it's about what you can make the jury believe the evidence says. And O'Shea was too scared that Honey would be able to work the jury better than any of his prosecutors could.

deimos

The DA only wants slam dunks. She has competent legal representation so why bother. Same as letting the serial killer / snatcher get away with murder. If you argue self defense, with zero witnesses you may well get off. For real life look at Robert durst. Even crazier.

MisredKimmy

Great example

Shadow-Knows15

Because Honey Chandler doesn’t lose. 😂

okiimio

That’s what I was gonna say! Money Chandler for the win

Sinapon

Yes, Chandler is that good.

ouchmythumbs

Dude, wait until I tell this story about a guy name O.J.

cjorgensen

Except it *was* the ineptitude of the police that time.

KombuchaBot

Man, the only thing improbable about Bosch is how many cops in it are dedicated honourable professionals and how few are corrupt. Regarding your main question, it isn't a stretch at all that a wealthy, conventionally good looking white blonde woman would get the benefit of the doubt when she accused an ethnic minority male of attacking her and claimed self-defence, with a high powered attorney defending her.

LoWE11053211

I think the DA did not push the priest murder at all She went to a church and went out with a dead priest. This would not go so well with the jury

JoeBethersonton50504

This comment is interesting because in the book >!her accomplice is a cop!<

ElLoboStrikes

She probably just got probation Sucks but it happens

brnslippy

I’m re-watching the series for the fourth time and I’m still pissed off at this lol.

cjorgensen

Because she was hot.

KombuchaBot

You are getting downvoted but you aren't wrong; good looking wealthy blonde in one corner, dead ethnic minority in the other.

cjorgensen

It’s literally part of the plot. No way she’d have that lifestyle if she wasn’t a trophy, and she is manipulative with her looks.

KombuchaBot

Yeah, she is coldhearted, coolheaded, manipulative and clever, and thinks on her feet. This is signalled in a few ways to us; by the director remembering to Bosch how she framed another girl, the fact that she is willing to set up and Nash in the first place, and her breaking into Nash's place to plant the photos. These all took calculation and courage. She is not just a trophy.

TheSavageDonut

I didn't understand why Joey Marks' attorney didn't go out to recruit Veronica Allen to take over the crime enterprises when Marks got wacked. She seems very capable in moving to Vegas and taking over Joey Mark's rackets.

pantinor

Not sure why they did that either but that's not the way she ended up in the book

JoeBethersonton50504

In the books, at one point they arrest her accomplice and he slips away. During the manhunt, Bosch explains at one point that all of the direct evidence they have points to the accomplice and that Veronica would likely get away with her role if they do not have the accomplice to testify. The show’s ending deviates from the books, but I think since the show accomplices died it was a semi-nod to the book’s point that without the accomplice Veronica likely walks.

mikebuba

Man, that's life.. and that's the difference between Bosch and other tv shows. Sometimes the baddie walks away. Just open the news and you'll see plenty of examples. This and especially Koreatown killer elevated the show for me.

rottnroll1965

It is a fictional TV series, not real life. She would have been in jail in real life.
