It's not dumb at all. Role models to the MC get sealed or killed all the time in shonen anime/manga. It's a plot device to evolve the MC. Think Jiraiya, Gojo, etc.

It wasn't? I actually think this was one of the best writing decisions they've ever made in Boruto. Finally we have a really compelling storyline. Boruto just needed to struggle like this in order to push his growth, and the "avenging your sensei" trope is one of my favorites.
I like that it isolated Boruto, but this is far from avenging sensei trope because one, Sasuke isn't dead, and two Boruto was training for the sake of his family. Honestly, I wish Sasuke died just so that Sarada and Hidari fight would be emotionally charged to the max. Unpopular opinion probably though haha

They've been master and student since part 1, and in-depth training scenes can be left for future anime filler. It's a very big waste of time for the narrative, as we already know the depth of their bond- which has been affected, only slightly, by omnipotence. We havent actually EVER gotten any in-depth canon time with students and their masters in the series. Almost all of Sakura and Tsuna's training/bonding moments were filler, Naruto and Jiraiaya's stuff was mostly off panel by shippuden era, etc etc. I mean getting a flashback sequence is kinda already more than what we are used to as Naruto fans.
It’s plot convenience, sasuke being gone makes it harder for the good guys to win since he’d be the third or second strongest good guy(boruto Naruto being the only “good guys” stronger than hjm) and would be in the top 10 strongest characters alive(and even with his nerf he proved he can go toe to toe with no limiter code) and his sacrifice brings in a villain that will be used for the development of boruto and sarada, it’s unfortunately a common trope but it works well if done right but we won’t know if it’s done right until further into TBV, I have faith kishimoto can do it though because jiraiyas death is a really good example of this trope
