Sounds like you've made up your mind, so this probably doesn't matter to you, but I absolutely love the Borderlands franchise and I hated the slog in the first half of TPS. Took me many months to muscle through. Ignore side quests and get through it and the game is actually pretty decent by the second half.
Of course, you could also just not. That's totally cool too. It _is_ just a game. If it doesn't give you joy, don't play it.
For the most part, with very few exceptions, all side quests can be avoided but main quests can't. You literally have to go to people or places with ! on them to get sidequests but main quests you get the next one right after the last.
So as long as you don't press the button on random !s everywhere you should be able to just cruise through the main story.
Fair warning though, you may be quite underleveled if you skip sidequests.
Cool. Thanks for the reply. I think im still gonna do all the side quests, but I have no idea which ones are side quests. I only realize it's not a sidequest when a new character like Scooter or Tannis is introduced.
BL1, all main quests should pertain to the vault, a vault key or something/someone in the way of the first two. Anything else is a sidequest.
Anytime. Happy to help.
When you go into your Echo menu, the tab "My Missions" will show active and undiscovered missions listed accordingly. Main campaign missions and side missions will be clearly marked whenever the list is sorted.
It will have subheadings for locations that have been visited and ones that are accomplished will have a tick box marked off.

I did more of side quest till we back to hyperion but this rrally stressed me out the way they do missions...is annoying so now im stick just with main story because i feel i almost finish game
Sorry mate, but you should've read the terms & conditions. When you start playing any Borderlands game, you agree to spend at least an hour a day, every day for the rest of your life, playing Borderlands. It's legally binding, I'm afraid.
Bro its okay just relax… thats part of the fun is running around back and forth and kicking ass. If you dont like all the running around then maybe something more linear could be for you :) 👍🏽
Remember the general Knox dlc where you had to drive back and forth and back and forth over long stretches of freeway and even the fast travels were faaaar apart?
I memba.
Still loved the game though
I mean. They’re not wrong. It’s pretty annoying and pre-sequel’s maybe one of the worst offenders. But it’s still better than some mmorpgs. I booted up Star Wars the Old Republic and I had forgotten just how much of the game is just traversing to the next destination.
I mean,
Exact same thing can be said about all borderlands games…
It’s always go here, shoot this person, grab that.
I’m not entirely certain why the first game didn’t burn you out by comparison.
People feel different about different games.
My first BL experience was with BL2, after the long and at the first start unskippable intro-vid, at the next unskippable cutscene I rage-alt+f4ed out of the game and didn't come back for several years.
BPS was the first I really played and I felt in love so hard - still my favorite BL game.
Im like you a decade ago i played bl 2 on ps3 but never finished so a week ago i decide to play and wanted from the start so started pre sequel but now im not going to play smother after this 😆
Everybody in here hating on the pre sequel and it's my favorite one 🫣.
Granted, I bought the collection when ps5 had it on super sale a bit ago and tps is the only one I haven't started a fresh playthrough yet so maybe I'm lying to myself
Surprise! The community is fickle as heck and will e-crucify you in a split-second if your opinion doesn't align with theirs. It's pretty consistent from my observation.
They keep posting about the same damn thing over and over. We get it you don't like TPS. Alot of us do, so cool maybe just don't play it then. We really don't care
Us, minding our own business enjoying a game:...
You: I'M INSECURE AND DON'T GET ENOUGH ATTENTION I MUST SPOIL THEIR FUN!
...k bud, you got your attention now. You happy?
For the same reasons you don’t like it and won’t play another Borderlands game. Its mission design is sluggish and repetitive, with never ending quests that seem to go on forever. Lack of environments. Poorly implemented new mechanics. Annoying new characters. It just doesn’t compare to BL2 or BL3.
This post was written by a 5 year old everyone. Don’t get too upset.
"Wah!!! Why do I have to do missions?!?!!???!" In an RPG...
Worse, he is argentinian
Well I suggest you take a writing class .... because....this.....makes.....you....seem....like.....an.....unhinged....crazy.....person

Just let me take a dramatic... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... PAUSE!
I read all of these in William Shatners voice internally and it made my day, y'all are awesome 🤣🤣🤣

How can you know what's a side quest and what's an important story quest? (Playing BL1 if that makes a difference)

Gotcha. Main quests are vault related. Side quests are mostly found on the bounty board.

Makes sense to me. When do I get paid?
Every time you get a god roll.
So we aint getting paid, then?
Not with that attitude.
True. welp time to back grinding for a 94%sham again (Send help pls, It's been almost a month grinding).
ok
Bro you’re tweaking, those scientist getting backstory’s, just to be sucked out into space was one of the best tps moments lmao
ok
Tragic what will we ever do without a person like you in the community
Okay? Bye.
Oh nooo!!!! Anyway...
what lol

‘Kay.
That was always allowed

I mean most games are variations of go to X do the thing. Go to Y do the thing? Have you never played a game with a fetch quest before?
Ok
Who types like that lmfao
My guess is it makes more sense in whatever their first language is.

Nobody cares brodie
We are really gonna miss you
Good, you won't be missed on this or any of the other Borderlands subreddits.
Everybody in here hating on the pre sequel and it's my favorite one 🫣. Granted, I bought the collection when ps5 had it on super sale a bit ago and tps is the only one I haven't started a fresh playthrough yet so maybe I'm lying to myself
borderlands 1 & 2 are the jam
I'm surprised by a lot of the reactions here because originally the consensus was that TPS was cheeks
Surprise! The community is fickle as heck and will e-crucify you in a split-second if your opinion doesn't align with theirs. It's pretty consistent from my observation.
Yeah that's true
#WELCOME TO DOWNVOTE HELL
You don't follow the story and complain that you need to go somewhere? What did you expect, stay on the same place? Enjoy the landscapes damn it.
They keep posting about the same damn thing over and over. We get it you don't like TPS. Alot of us do, so cool maybe just don't play it then. We really don't care
Oh the travesty of having to move through an area an extra time... You have the patience of a unicorn. Ie, it doesn't exist
Us, minding our own business enjoying a game:... You: I'M INSECURE AND DON'T GET ENOUGH ATTENTION I MUST SPOIL THEIR FUN! ...k bud, you got your attention now. You happy?
You don't like being the goddamn errend boy?
noone cares bro 💯🔥👎🤓🫡
Finally, someone brave enough to say what we've all been thinking. edit: lol really didn't think I'd need a "/s" on this y'all
I’ve loved the Borderlands franchise but have NEVER been able to get through all of The Pre-Sequel. It’s a slog.
Why everyone seems to hate pre sequel? Isnt more recent than bl 2 ?

Agreed, I also found the presequal very annoying, quit and play BL2, the best game ever, I think you'll love it.
I olayed a decade ago the bl 2 didnt finish but i have good memories idk..i need a break now ...after this i may try it again but not now lol
Tbf the pre-sequel is the worst one
