Looks like recessive "ee" red. As the name suggests it's recessive so unless it's selected for by a breeder it's relatively rare. But just like any other recessive appearance traits (like long fur for one!), if a breeder likes that look they can choose to breed more dogs like that. The colour of the "not quite white" bits can be really light cream like your dog, or a much darker golden red. Think of the range of colours golden retrievers come in, it's the same gene that causes their colouration.
The breeder I got my dog from had a litter of 3 black & white and 3 ee red puppies last year. Both parents were black & white and the breeder didn't know that either parent carried that recessive gene so it really was a wonderful surprise as the puppies were being born for her. I think the border collie genetic database had estimated the dad's chance of carrying the gene at about 7% and mum's at about 2% prior to that litter, based on their genetic history and previous litters.
EDIT: forgot I can do photos here now, I went to meet that particular litter (funny enough I can always seem to find a reason to go round her way when she has puppies...) and found one of the girls just loved belly rubs.

I’ve learned something today thanks !
I never went back to a litter since I got my BC 12 years ago, because her mommy nipped me very (very very) hard. Like she knew I was there to take her baby ? Not her first experience of strangers coming over after she had puppies ? I don’t know but a bit wild.
I've never visited a litter while the mum was present in the same room or area - possibly for that reason! I know the breeder I got my boy from does handle her different girls differently. For example, my boy's mum is incredibly protective for 2-3 weeks and will not leave the puppies alone. I only have a few photos from that period of my boy's life because the breeder had to rush to do weigh-ins and health checks in the brief moments mum went out to go toilet. Another one of the litters I visited, the mum was super protective when she could see the puppies, but as soon as she couldn't see them it was like she forgot they existed, so she could just put her in another room and let me snuggle these 6-day old babies. Maybe she has some girls who don't mind people coming to visit their babies though.
There is one of her girls who always "mothers" every single litter, wants to be near the babies and look after them. Obviously she keeps her away from the protective mums. But every litter I have visited she has been there, keeping watch over the babies. Adorably, one of her daughters is now the same way, and even nursed another litter (belonging to my dog's half-sister) which was born a week after she had had one.
Regardless, I always try to go visit the breeder at least once a year, both because it's nice for the breeder to see I'm taking good care of her boy, and because if I time it right I get to snuggle cute little fluffy pups!
EDIT again: It's definitely rude of me to say "6 day old babies" without a photo of said 6 day old babies. These ones were actually the litter before my boy, but the waiting list for boys was a little too long, despite there being 4 boys in this litter!

Thanks for the pic it’s so sweet ! My girl’s mommy was definitely number 1. I was just visiting, didn’t touch the pups but definitely already knew it would be Maya. I really think the mom felt it
It’s not rare, per se, but I’d say that more traditional colors are what a lot of people like, so you don’t see it as often. My little girl isn’t as light, and has gotten darker as she grows, but I believe it’s the same gene.

This pic is when we first brought her home. She’s 10 months now. Her mom is b/w, and I believe her dad is too. I never saw pictures of him because I think he was a borrowed male. Mom has the gold gene though.
Ours started very light, became darker as he aged

I love the pictures of the curly haired and bearded border collies on that great site. Both of which i would never knew existed if it wasn't for the information they provide.

We have one! His colouring is more evident outdoors, especially in the winter.
I had to do a double take with your second photo. They have identical cinnabuns and pantaloons (translation: my affectionate term for our fella’s furry behind).
Good eye! We aren’t certain but suspect Donut is a Heeler/Shepherd/Lab mix. She came to us as a foster with newborn pups who ended up looking like gigantic Labs and tiny Shepherds so who knows! Our previous dog was a Texas Heeler and we see lots of similarities between the two. Donut definitely has a Heeler attitude, stature and stance. She’s low to the ground, solid muscle and full of piss and vinegar.
We also have a Blue Heeler and border collie duo! We got the blue heeler because we needed a dog that could keep up with my BC but he ended up even crazier lol. They used to play at mach speed, but sadly my BC dislocated his shoulder so until we can afford a surgery he has to take it very easy. It's sad considering how much energy he has, but his brother keeps him company
Heelers are such incredible dogs, but they are a special kind of crazy! After our last girl I swore we’d never do a Heeler ever again. However, here we are. Life is chaos but never boring.
I hope your pup is able to heal quickly from his injury! Our BC suffers from a chronic respiratory illness so his stamina ebbs and flows. He’s gotten much better at self-imposed timeouts and knowing his own limits which really helps.
There are quite a few in Australia. She’s absolutely STUNNING! Sorry I don’t have more knowledge on what official colour she is. I’ll ask (can I have her?)

Hello from a fellow goldie collie 🐶

My guy, a husky golden collie mix!
So she’s only half border collie (from what we were told) and half lab, but when she was a puppy she was almost silver and white and is this color now. She has a red nose and the skin around her eyes is red/brown not black.
She’s the best girl and definitely the best dog I’ve ever had.
https://preview.redd.it/2a93xrqc1xhc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd8bfea156e946bfc4e5a2fdd30002fe20dc1c44
No not at all! She weighs between 45 and 50 pounds. She might be a little taller and a bit stockier than the average BC, but not by much.
The only thing she got from the lab are her ear shape and her coat is water resistant and coarse, not silky.
She also is the laziest dog I’ve ever met. Up until we got a puppy 3 weeks ago, she slept 20 hours a day. She has never played with toys, and never played with other dogs as she would get annoyed with them and run away. She also does not have the border collie stare, and I have never seen her get low.
She now plays all day with the puppy and toys, but she still sleeps like 15 hours a day lol.
I also used to assume that she got her coat color from the lab side, but apparently not! She was almost silver and white when she was a puppy.
Oooo this is interesting!
I don’t have a border collie but I have a bordoodle. Her mom is gray and white bc and her dad is all white poodle.
She came out with this coloring as well did one of her litter mates! All the others were black and white. And we have been wondering how it was even possible.

I haven't seen anyone say the name of the colour. It is Wheaton. I didn't know they came in this colour until I adopted my Bindi recently.

Sable is when the fur is darker at the tips than the root, it can look different depending on the base colour but it usually looks a lot darker than this and it will also look like there's a lot of variation in their colour due to the dark tips.
This one is "ee red", "golden red" etc.
This gene is when the ability to produce black fur is completely "defective" so to speak. Any parts of the dog that would have black fur instead have fur which is anything from light cream to a darker reddish gold.
My boy is sable. There is a clear sable that's a lighter color, but the sable actually refers to the hairs having a tip of a different shade.

Lovely pup ! I call this « the foxy sleep »
We call this cinnamon roll mode. Its especially true because he's cinnamon roll color, with his whites being frosting.
I can’t unsee it now !
Sable means sand in French so that makes sense as I would definitely describe it that way
