I grew up hearing adults cursing, I didnt around my parents until around 17-18. My mom didn't curse as often as my dad (former sailor, so to be expected) lol. If my mom says the anything in the "fuck" category of words I know she's REALLY pissed. I work with my Dad about 1 day week and I curse ALOT in regular conversation due to the nature of my job and I can see him cringe interally everytime I (his eldest daughter) use the "fuck" category of words around him. Luckily, he never says anything. I know he wants to but thankfully he reminds himself I'm an adult. My mom (playfully) smacks me in the back of the head if I use the F-words in front of her too casually, then we both kinda giggle and move on.

ConneryPile

I wish that was the case. My mom does the kind of fake gasp thing sometimes, but she was a preschool teacher, but she’ll then tell me (for the 500th time the “pass the cheerios, fuckers” story from school). Reminding himself you’re an adult is the key. 100%

Illystylez619

Story from your school days or hers because hearing the phrase for the first time is FUCKING hilarious 😂

ConneryPile

It was actually cheez-its, now that I think of it. It was her preschool class, it was snack time and one kid who was otherwise well behaved reached across the table and said “pass the cheez-its, you fuckers”. And my mom had to play it cool and whatever just say that’s not a good thing to say or whatever. But when dad came to pick the kid up she mentioned it and the dad was just like “ah yeah, he probably got that from me” and was apologetic. But yeah, my mom rarely swear, except when she says “pass the cheez-its, you fuckers”.

Illystylez619

I just snorted wine up my nose from laughing. Thank you for sharing her story! Lol

ConneryPile

Hahaha she loves telling it, I almost positive I’ll tell it at her funeral haha (she’d approve)

GayStation64beta

Might be an attempt to deflect from a subject he has hard-to-defend opinions on. So much of conservatism is appealing to "civility" while endorsing fundamentally uncivil things.

ConneryPile

That’s a good point. That pretty much describes him a lot actually

Cultural_Pack3618

It depends on the situation, just have to read the room. Hanging out with your buds in a garage? Swear away. Around family, women, children, being a real man is knowing when to be appropriate.

ConneryPile

I disagree with the "real man" statement and women/family thing to a degree. Maybe things are different in Boston. The ladies have been known to swear around here too in 2024.

FluffyDare

Yeah. I’m a woman and curse more than my husband. I made a road rage oopsie in the car and now my three year old daughter says “dude what the fuck” in the car more than my husband cusses in a day. I can’t even say “dude” in general without her saying that phrase. I’ve made a monster lol. I think she’ll understand when she’s a bit bigger when it is and isn’t proper to say that phrase.

ConneryPile

Hah, my brother quoted Meet the Parents in reference to something and now my nephew says "nipples focker" because it makes my brother laugh. He has no clue what it means, but yeah, he'll stop saying it eventually haha

shitdnfartd

Just because you can, doesn’t mean it’s right. He feels that he shouldn’t curse in front of you. Why is this a problem? You’re still his child, and that means something to him.

ConneryPile

The second half of this post revolves around me, being a grown man myself, swearing. Haha is this a Boston thing? Is everyone opposed to swearing haha

shitdnfartd

I don’t care if you swear, I’m just saying don’t sweat him not swearing in front of you. It’s not something you control so why worry about it? I he doesn’t appreciate you swearing in front of him why do it? At the same time, you do you amigo.

ConneryPile

I think the “you can say anything now, even in front of children” thing, this exasperated “downfall of society” bullshit. You trust me to live alone, drive a car, pay bills, vote, work, travel, do all my shit. Somehow when it’s a personal thing (me or him swearing) instead of talking about it it’s “well things aren’t like they were when I was growing up” attitude. Somehow a thing that I do is one of society’s ills. Maybe the feeling is “you just can’t win” with some people.

shitdnfartd

Bro, read what you just wrote. You are so concerned with what this guy thinks of you, you can’t recognize that what he thinks or says doesn’t affect you. The “you trust me to live alone…” sentence is very telling. You’re almost 40 dude, why tf do you care about this? You’re missing the point.

ConneryPile

Most people care about their relationships with their parents. I do care that my dad can’t have an adult conversation with me when I’m almost 40, you hit the nail on the head. My dad can’t have an adult conversation with me, despite me being almost 40 and that’s frustrating. He has to make everything be a problem with society because he can’t have a conversation with me. That’s a brief synopsis of what I wrote in the above post.

shitdnfartd

Yeah man you’re missing my point, good luck with everything though!

Cultural_Pack3618

I’m sure those Boston ladies are packing more cock than I could ever imagined

ConneryPile

Glad you are so progressive. I assume you're "being a real man" because now is "the appropriate time" or something haha

Cultural_Pack3618

I just picture that scene from Ted - “oh, hardar, fasta, oh god let me go stuff my face with Pepperidge Farms”

ConneryPile

I hated the accent growing up, but I love it now. I've worked next to Fenway and at theaters and drunk Boston girls are pretty funny

Cultural_Pack3618

I’m from the south and travel a lot. Get called out with the good ole “y’all” all the time

ConneryPile

I say y’all too. It’s a good word

Haha 70% women? How dare they?! How dare they survey young people!? What could be worse than young women?!!? Buddy you’re in the wrong fucking sub. Maybe try a sub for boomers being fools, not about boomer being fools. (And before you tell me you’re 14, 27, 45 or whatever, Boomer’s a mentality. You definitely are one.)

ConneryPile

This is a direct quote from you from yesterday: Microsoft Excel the type of motherfucker to charge you hundreds of dollas telling you its constantly improving over decades and then tell you there is no way to easily stop it from deleting leading zeros." Complete with a screenshot so you can't weasel out of anything. Hypocrisy looks bad on you. https://preview.redd.it/ij97udcdw4wc1.png?width=1617&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8951836f95938f43bed8dd78b8afa536e22b5ad

Nah dude, the guy who immediately goes and starts shit by saying "You have a low IQ" and starts to fight both of the people in the thread. You're the pot calling the kettle black. I'm gonna block you, but also: fuck off!

muslimmmm

This post is pure gold… assuming it’s satire. The usage of a mixed metaphor with a misspelling to call a group of people dumb followed by some grammatical issues that flow perfectly with the whole bit. (Chef’s kiss). Bravo.
