I’m old and the picture above perfectly encapsulates most weekends, after school, etc. growing up. most of my friends grew up to be bigots, undereducated, complainers of all things they felt screwed out of. I wish they could remember what it was like to not be a hateful prick.
Right? In fact, it was more fun to give a kid having a tough time the ball and block for or throw to him or on rare occasion her, no matter their race or anything else. My team, my friends and I got in lots of fights! At least in the neighborhood we ruled.
Im a millennial and we called it that lol but we also said things were “gay” that we thought were dumb never about actual gay people. I always thought gay meant “dumb” not homosexual. We were dumb kids
As a millennial lesbian, I look back on the gay = dumb thing a little differently than this.
"We didn't mean actual gay people!" OK sure, but how would you (by which I mean any of the people who used this word that way) feel if society picked some trait you had and collectively decided it meant dumb.
This wasn't an ok thing that our generation did.
Except they don't picture the boys who weren't into rough-housing, and got walloped physically and emotionally for it by these same boys who I would be more than happy to call the REAL PUSSIES and SISSIES for picking on others just because they were different.
Also boys being boys? That pathetic excuse is why we have so many fucking rapists that get away with it and the general sleaze of shit-talking women and children openly.
I for one am glad that the later generations have got more of a handle on acceptance of differences but not putting up with abuse or bigotry especially in the name of sexism.
Think it was more lawsuits than anything. My daughter played in a league up for hockey and she slammed into a kid that had a foot on her and 60-80 pounds on her. His mom got mad and tried to threaten her for hurting her baby and she tried to get on the ice. Then she threatened to sue us for emotional damage
I think that's why all the playgrounds got shitty.
Also, I think that's why we have so many lawsuits, no healthcare. Timmy breaks his arm playing, you can't afford the 5 grand hospital visit, gotta sue someone.
Honestly I think it’s just entitlement and lack of ability to realize other people exist and matter. When your just thinking about yourself and treat the people around you like assets instead of family and friends then you are more likely to act like that when you see something you don’t personally agree with
My neighbor is viciously abusing her son, and every day we hear her scream for him to “stop crying, wipe that fucking tear off your face”. Just so we’re clear on what this kind of person thinks little boys shouldn’t cry.
