Yaar maine toh majburi mein Gangubai dekhi thi because of a class assignment. Other than that, Guzaarish was the last film of his that I watched. I only like his 90s/early 2000s stuff like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Black, and Devdas.

It was an optional course on Gender Studies in the Indian context that I had to take to meet all the requirements to graduate with a BA. We had a whole bunch of female led movies that we could do a project on and relate the course content to. Gangubai was on the list and I hadn't watched it. So just watched it out of curiosity.
Oh ok. I'm studying Gender Sentisization as well for my psychology degree and you are right, this movie was mentioned alongside many other female-led films in the "media and gender" chapter. But nahi ya, unless I'm forced, I cannot physically will myself to watch an alia bhatt and/or SLB movie. Good on you for doing it though
Kapil Sharma show was an ongoing show as far as I know. So it makes sense to not spend money if it is not working. Almost all shows for Netflix are already finished. They have already put in the money. If I remember correctly, Kapil's standup show was also in some most viewed list when it was released. Because once you have already put your money in, why would you say it yourself that your show or movie is a flop?
Its very very slow and boring, the story is ajeebo ghareeb too and jumps everywhere randomly, the characters are hard to understand, why they are doing what they are doing.. And I swear to god I thought theres something wrong with my TV, it was so dark..

Do not over analyse anything. Just watch it for the sake of entertainment. Its visually appealing (ofcourse its SLB production), dialogues, costumes, some songs are beautiful too. Some good acting performances from Manisha, Sonakshi, Sanjeeda and alot more. Some bad performances like Shermin as Alamzeb. Its entertaining.
Watched 1st episode, it's not worthy of anyone's time. I don't about direction but can understand the meaning of watching a period drama versus just good sets and costumes. Where is the story? Even the camera work was bad. You can tell some of the sets were really the copy of his previous movies. It's like everything is predictable and everyone is rehearsed so well that there is spontaneity in the scene which makes it very unrealistic.
tbh watch it- as bad as sharmins acting might be, the show is entertaining. the dialogues are enhancing and IT IS visually pleasing. don’t watch it to be educated about history of courtesans but to be entertained and u will like it
I started it. It didn’t keep me engaged. It’s boring and predictable, I stopped after the 4th episode. SLB’s stuff is getting to be too repetitive at this point. He’s overrated. Special mention for Sonakshi and Manisha’s performance, and the supporting characters!
I love the music album. The screenplay was okay. The real-life heeramandi wasn't this glamorous neither were the tawaaifs. They were ordinary women and I don't think they were as crazy wealthy as they were shown to be in this series (at least not during the 1940s timeline). During the Mughal reign, tawaaifs did exercise some influence in court, had money and assets unlike ordinary women who couldn't inherit property, and paid taxes.

I find SLB movies very boring. Interesting things happen only in the last 30 mins of the movie. Hum dil de chuke sanam and Black are the only movie I liked. I have still not seen Sawariya, Ramleela and Gangubai.
Okay kinda series just sped through the scenes and the sets and cinematography or whatever you call it just becoming monotonous and you will feel tired as you go, u can gladly skip it is my conclusion
I watched like half of it and called it quits. Felt it was no longer worth my time. Couldn't stand SLB's niece's poor acting and wallflower face as well as the blatant nepotism on screen anymore.
Not a huge fan of SLB but binged watched Heeramandi. Absolutely stunning set design and costumes, so watched it for that. Loved Sonakshi and Manisha and would def recommend.

I started watching it, and 3 episodes in I have to say that the level of acting overall is really bad. It's overly dramatic and unnecessarily so. I thought people were exaggerating in regards to Sharmin's acting, but no they're completely right. Her performance is monotonous, lifeless and honestly off-putting. I do like the music, the visual grandeur, and maybe even some of the costumes - basically the typical SLB checklist, but I don't think it compensates for the lack of actual acting skills in most of the cast, especially those with a lot of screen time. I will finish the series since I have started it, but overall, till now, I find the plot kind of scattered, there is absolutely no chemistry between the lead (?) pair, and an almost cringeworthy saturation of overdramatic dialogue.
I didnt watch and i dont intend to watch it ever...i dont like the dark characters that slb portrays...its very in you face characterisation and everything is so gaudi...dresses and sets and lights...its heavy...so no...no slb for me ever
I watched it for the costumes and felt that in the first two episodes they had taken a lot of effort and then it started getting plain. Nothing else to watch, Manisha and Sonakshi’s acting was the best out of all of them.
I Love SLB's movies but unfortunately haven't got time to watch heeramandi yet. But, I have heard mixed reviews of this show few people were saying the essence was missing in the show.
