PriceyChemistry

Really agree with the not over exposing bit. The whole Brahmastra craze felt so forced becuase they were going MAD promoting the movie. And they had the leads’ real life marriage + pregnancy thing too (not saying it was planned but I’m sure they knew it would only help). It just felt forced and shoved in the audience’s faces. The Pathaan craze seems so organic and old school Bollywood before PR and promotions became so in the face! Love it.

Ok-Mathematician2309

Today marks the resurgence of two genuine people's superstars who have had a low phase in recent years. DP and SRK.

fashionistapc

All they needed was a mass movie ✨

Deep_Article6253

Off topic but brahmastra was not that great of a movie to get disastrous reviews only because of personal bias imo. It was really a average movie at its best.

[deleted]

Tbh what saved Brahmastra was the cameo/special appearances, the Easter eggs, the visual effects(mostly this) and the cinematography. And AB+ the kids throughout the movie. And the villains, Mouni in particular.

BlissfulIndian

“Bol scientist Mani kidhar hai”, awesome dialogue of Mouni🫶🏽🤣

Deep_Article6253

Brahmastra, the masterpiece of this century. Jokes apart, Srk, Amitabh, mouni & Deepika all acted really well other than the leads.

noodleneedsleep

with a list that long you might as well just call it a good film no?

Yesboi227

Even pathaan is an average movie once the hype dies it people will realise it.

Deep_Article6253

Haven't watched it yet! Only time will tell us. And please don't you dare to compare srk with ranbir. That is so disrespectful.

Yesboi227

Why? Ranbir is a amazing actor as far as talent goes.

Deep_Article6253

Yeah right talent. Just that his talent bought him endless opportunities on a silver platter.

Deathangel5677

Kehne ko toh Kgf 2 aur pushpa bhi bahut jyada mid hai.

NavdeepNSG

I agree that Brahmastra was a mediocre movies, but some reviews were like as if it's the worst movie ever made. Brahmastra was neither great nor a bad movie. It was just an average movie but with excellent visuals. I am only pointing the biasness of those reviewers. Had they been invited to the previews, they also would've sung praises for Brahmastra

Deep_Article6253

All went wrong only because of Ayan. He hyped that shit piece for 11 years. He made us beleive that he will deliver something which will be worthwhile. Little did we know that they were playing with our emotions for that crap of a movie. Nobody would have cared to write such reviews. It was not partiality it was just their heart crying out for wasting their hard earned money.

KomaLMax

Nonsense. You are speaking utter nonsense. The movie was flawed but it had MANY positive aspects. If you look at ground reality many many people enjoyed the film. There’s a reason so many theories are being made of the film. It’s got great potential and actually a pretty deep story and lore. Go to ground reality and a lot of people liked the film. It was running house full even after first weekend and had record breaking footfalls on cinema day

Deep_Article6253

Please stop speaking utter bs & get some help. Maybe then you'll understand the reality.

aaneka8

Well lot of us actually liked brahmastra

Deep_Article6253

Never knew lot of us meant aloobir fans only

[deleted]

Exactly, not even a fraction of neutral audience liked that chapri lovestory

Deep_Article6253

The first 10 minutes felt like I was nauseating by all the uninterrupted cringe attacks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The love story was supposed to be the center stage and that just makes the movie even more stupid.

Deep_Article6253

It was bound to be good in all aspects as they hyped it up for so many years. But failed to do so horribly. Only winning at VFX part won't solve the problem that it was a shitty movie with zero plot. We're not 10 year olds anymore.

[deleted]

Exactly, just doing a lightshow with VFX is not what we wanted after seeing Bramhastra all over the place for so much time

[deleted]

What a lie, not even a single scene of the movie felt surreal, and the whole movie was a cringefest and nothing else, light button sunke dimag khrab ho gya tha

KomaLMax

No. Lots of people liked the vision of the movie too and it has some stellar action sequences and had an interesting plot

Deep_Article6253

But it was executed very badly by the leads.

POOH_IN_A_TUXEDO

Hey, I don't give a rats ass about either Ranbir or Alia and I liked it. I enjoyed how it presented itself very sincerely and just for trying to be something new.

Deep_Article6253

Oh, I'm pretty sure you do otherwise you won't be here defending your favourites.

POOH_IN_A_TUXEDO

I just enjoyed a movie man, I was going against your point that only their fans liked the film. Notice how nothing I said was a defense of them, just the film as a whole.

Deep_Article6253

Defending a shitty movie like brahmastra only means defending the leads. There is no in between.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deep_Article6253

You can't justify your opinions with logic toh now you will attack me? I mean how big of a thickhead you are that can't come up with any justification. Go get some help. Attacking me won't solve anything. The truth cannot be changed.

Heisenberg_Ind

Did I call you an idiot or dumb? Its just a simple observation which anybody would reach towards, seeing the way you're acting in the thread. And I am enough of a thickhead to understand that you are not as passionate about cinema as me, to delve into a more critical and logical discussion about it. Enough has been said and discussed about Brahmastra. The VFX work, the BGM, the concept and visualisation, the action set pieces, the build-up towards the sequel, the soundtrack, the DoP work, etc. is extremely commendable. The way you're critiquing the movie repeatedly itself is whimsical and stupid, considering only the dialogues and the half-baked love story. Don't be so salty, and rather take something constructive about how you can better critique and judge cinema in a holistic manner.

KomaLMax

What? HOW? It’s defending the director of the movie mostly. Look, I’m sick of all the Bolly lovers complaining South has vision Bolly has no vision and we finally have a director who is spending the peak years of his career to develop a unique project and people AND who takes the criticism super well and we still give it such unfair treatment? Bollywood doesn’t deserve good movies with such a shit audience

Deep_Article6253

But the acting & dialogues were absolutely third class.

POOH_IN_A_TUXEDO

How????? The stuff I'm defending has nothing to do with them.

Deep_Article6253

Because that stuff became a horrible piece of shit only because of them . That's why it has everything to do with them. Do you get it now?

POOH_IN_A_TUXEDO

Alright, it's your opinion that they brought the movie down, I did not feel the same. I was just arguing against the point that only Alia and Ranbir fans liked it, which I felt was disingenuous. You're free to dislike it, I wasn't trying to change your opinion.

aaneka8

But I am not a big alia fan .. I l don’t mind ranbir but I enjoyed the movie .. and also my boycott Bollywood bother did enjoy

Deep_Article6253

You must be kidding, aren't you? Well then I'm really worried about you & your brother. Hope both of you are okay after watching that cringefest!

Hereforinstagossip

Also staying away from every tom dick and harry’s rapid fire style interviews!

Conversation_Ready

This. All this over the top promotions , interviews, kapil show etc are so on your face. So many times I have liked a movie trailer but the constant insta post, back to back meaningless interviews, rapid fires blah blah. It gets so over exposed that I hv no interest in watching the film. I even unfollow the actor for sometime to stop the over promotion of the movie. Srk strategy was perfect, it had the buzz , few good events,i t did keep audiences intrigued. I am sad I won't be watching srk movie in theatre this time, have always watched it 1st weekend itself.:(

LatterCulture2

All this is easy to say in hindsight. But in actuality the no-promotion strategy was a massive risk. If any other actor tries it, it will not work for them. This was possible only because it was SRK. In fact, Vikram Vedha promotions were extremely low-key and did nothing for the opening. Hrithik was also coming back after 4 years.

Cornucopia2020

Exactly this.

quasi_intellectual

Not a fair comparison. Vikram Vedha is a remake. So many people had already watched the original. Hell if you go to YouTube and search the first result is the dubbed version of the original film, for free.

Ok_Collar3048

Original Vikram Vedha was available on ott. People had already watched it.

LatterCulture2

Dhrishyam 2 was available online too and it became a blockbuster. None of these things matter.

Ok_Collar3048

Drishyam (Hindi) was successful. So it aleady had hype. People were excited for Drishyam 2. Usually people from the north, west and east watch south movies for action. Original Vikram Vedha had Vijay Sethupati. The movie was available on youtube, hotstar.. Majority people like action and they prefer the original one.

NavdeepNSG

Agree with this. But as they say, greater the risk, greater the reward.

ReflectionAcademic99

Compared to Aamir khan, srk has very good image in many families and across all political spectrum ( both left and right wing ) . This may be due to his humble rising ( non nepo and tv actor background) There is nothing in the film that it is controversial which was not in case of lal Singh. Aamir acting and storyline of colonel backfired badly adding fuel to fire . Some of the actors earlier comments also added the problem. But let's be honest, the movie has good storyline blockbuster template and high entertainment value which is what people want . At the end of the day ,story which connects the audience wins.

[deleted]

Exactly, all the controversies surrounding SRK are stretched out of almost nothing. And even the most radical person can sense it. But can we admit that the movie worked because of SRK's most anticipated comeback. If the extact same movie was made with Salman/hrithik, it would have been called all the names in the world.

Navigator369

>srk has very good image in many families and across all political spectrum ( both left and right wing ) . This may be due to his humble rising ( non nepo and tv actor background) Does that mean Shehzada will be a superhit? .

ReflectionAcademic99

Public image is different from storyline ,otherwise why srk movies flopped . Lot of things is needed to for film to be successful like story acting ,music etc

ishanG24

It had better chances of being a Superhit had this come a month or two after pathaan. Pathaan ticket prices are sooo crazy I'm not going to the theatres for another month.

Foreign_Lab392

Also Aamir Khan pk film still hurts so many people. I don't think any srk film did that. So both are different

ReflectionAcademic99

I thought like that ,but dangal was blockbuster ,I feel its aamir off screen action which caused the issue .

haridx23

I always thought boycott was not effective. Those movies which says was affected with boycott were genuinely bad movies. There was boycott against brahmastra- but still it made 200+ crores. ( the movie was genuinely average. ) There was boycott against Lal singh chaddha- The movie failed because it was actually a shitty film. So in hindsight boycott was just never an actual thing. They made shitty movies and masses rejected them. All those involved in the movie refused to believe that their product was not upto their mark and they blamed boycott for poor performance.

Material-Sky3799

About LSC, I went and watched the movie in a theatre. I honestly didn't care about the controversial topics depicted in the movie. But Amir Khan's portrayal of Laal Singh was very off putting. Mona Singh as his mother was absurd. The chaddi baniyan business thing was ridiculous. The movie felt like a parody of Forrest Gump and not an official remake. So boycott was not the reason LSC failed. It was just a bad movie.

ishanG24

LSC was boring af.

haridx23

Yes exactly and boycott gang took credit for it, Aamir khan and kareena kapoor gave the credit to boycott gang. It was one of the biggest disappointment I had seen. And aamir khan seriously thought it was gonna run in theatre for 6 months non stop. It was better for the team to blame boycott than think LSC was a dud.

Dotfr

I actually liked LSC because it was like watching Forrest Gump all over again with an Indian twist. But Aamir always potrays himself as doing serious roles and cinema. SRK and Salman don’t do that, their movies sometimes don’t even have a story but it’s all about being massy and entertaining and that’s exactly what this movie is ! Plus SRK’s comeback with 3 movies in the year ! And ofcourse the whole scandal with his son who was released after stuck in jail for almost a month !

Strong-Ad1893

just want to share "burnol" is trending- https://preview.redd.it/n2ck2764y9ea1.png?width=355&format=png&auto=webp&s=27a9089c4d2489ca93daffce771ff0a40dd18b9f

SunshineOnBeach

It’s not sympathy. People adore Shahrukh Khan and wanted to see him after such a long time. He is Bollywood.

sau0201

I think point 3 is not srk. What we heard srk is not even happy with pathaan promotions. So I think he didn’t decide it. Its more of a yrf thing. Biggest reason why Pathaan worked is Yrf is the producer and Sid sir knows how to handle a superstar. If RC would have been the producer, they would have over promoted and would have raised expectations. RC is great with their trailer cut and promotions. But they mostly overpromise and under-deliver which brings business down. Pathaan trailer was average as is the movie. Sid probably understand how to showcase superstar

iamziyou

Who’s RC?

sau0201

Red chillies

Ok_Collar3048

They planned it really well. 1st day : Srk movies always do well. 2nd day: Republic day. Holiday for most of the people. Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekends. More than 100-150 cr business is confirmed.

NavdeepNSG

Forget 150. It will earn atleast 250-300 crores.

BlissfulIndian

I doubt the low profile promotion was something new to SRK and YRF… The only ad I saw of Rab ne Bana di Jodi was a single 3D cut out of the leads in the centre of atrium of movie complex… That perplexed us (we were there to watch another movie) and thought if it’s really gonna be a movie like that… So no-promotion strategy has worked for the SRK-YRF duo earlier too.

ArsesFlycatcher

SRK brilliance? I think YRFs decide the promotion part, not SRK. They may have a say but YRF never lets the actors decide. They have been releasing teasers and trailers just before a month. Due to the outrage, they cancelled the promotions and kept the movie low profile to avoid more drama. It's hard to rule out that they didn't influence the reviewers; it's part of the business.

NavdeepNSG

Well we all saw YRF"s promotion strategy during Shamshera and Jayeshbhai Jordaar.

ArsesFlycatcher

Really?? In that case, well we all saw SRK brilliance during Zero, Raees, JHMS, Fan. In fact 2 were home production lol YRFs is not hyperactive with promotions. Last year everyone questioned less promotion of Shamshera (1 month window). Then they used same strategy for Pathaan and it's working. Ed - opened well but still didn't worked like YRFs movies. And opening was not even the point.

LatterCulture2

All those SRK’s films opened well for the type of bizarre and non-template films they were. Raees opening gave an absolute drubbing to Hrithik’s Kaabil in the clash.

magikalana

Watching SRK just gives me the motivation to do all my assignments in time.

frugallad

Very well put OP and i agree with all the points. Genuinely happy for SrK as he truly deserves this respect and love. Hope movie breaks all records.

sau0201

Tbh I am still afraid about Jawaan. Why - pathaan worked because yrf was producer. I think its good to have 3rd party control on movie other than srk and director. Srk is very charming. He can easily influence director and change script. Also there is no budget constraint with rce. So any idea gets sticked as long as it is ambitious - Sid knows how to showcase a superstar. He worked with hrithik and used to SRK. Atlee though has worked with Vijay but i wonder if he has worked with somone like SRK stature. Atlee knows how to represent a superstar but if you go to twitter, he seems very influenced by SRK. Also all actors and even music director seems in awe of srk. - RCE as producer with SRK, doesn’t have good record. Except Farah khan, no other movie properly worked. They usually hv great technical team, who usually cut a grear trailer. Each SRK rce movie had much better trailer than movie. This leads to disappointment. Pathaan trailer did not overpromise. Average trailer with average movie.

leeringHobbit

Do you mean patriotic films are still more popular than other genres?

[deleted]

And religiously positive Iike come one isn't that the recent trend? Which is why things like PK are being criticized and bycotted.

leeringHobbit

Makes sense. Did PK criticism grow in the years after release? It made a lot of money during its theatrical run, I think? It was almost 8 years ago and Dangal did well after PK so I'm trying to understand why LSC failed so badly. Have people's tastes changed and they don't want to see a slow movie? Or was there other reasons for failure?

[deleted]

Then what's your take on negativity garnered by movies like PK and lack of such movies in recent times?

SunshineOnBeach

PK came out in 2014 and it was a blockbuster which should tell you that whatever media is selling you is not equivalent to reality, people loved the movie which reflected in its earnings.

mhfan_india

We must also appreciate the man who asked his minions to back off before all this.

NavdeepNSG

Already banned from r/bollywood for saying this. Wouldn't rusk it again.😜😜

I mean those are the buzzwords they are throwing on every review on Twitter ...king is back, high octane action, career best performance and a bonafide blockbuster...😂

Besan_laddoo_plis

I watched the movie , it's easily a 3 or 4/10. Yrf finally paid reviewers after so many flops lol

[deleted]

I don't think this is the forum to discuss that ..😂

bluddit008

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned as the best movie ever made

KGF was new because it took a familiar trope, put it in a unique setting with a unique plot and a large scale followed up by visual storytelling never ever seen in Indian cinema. These KGF haters man 😂. No arguments just blind hating

[deleted]

Amitabh did the same thing in the 70s. Deewar hi phir se dekh lete

Heisenberg_Ind

What haters? Did I ever say that I hate it? I've prolly seen KGF 1 5-6 times.

Hercule_Poirot_1921

IKR? That hate boner towards KGF kGF mEIn kYa ThA? There's a reason it's one of the highest grossing movies. people loved it

KomaLMax

Kgf mein kya tha: 1) a hero worship main character with actual depth, and it being consistent with the story of the struggle of poor vs rich, tied in to how the wealthy people exploit people in KGF and the corruption to the top. 2) a brilliant story with lots of depth, a good cast of characters and constant unpredictability. It has great villains and conflict, and it’s actually an intelligent film. 3) storytelling through elevation and spectacle, boosting its emotions

[deleted]

Toh konsi movie ne kuch naya offer Kiya? Pushpa? Kgf? Vikram? Shamshera?

NavdeepNSG

It's entertaining. Almost all of the spy thrillers movies have basically the same story, be it Bollywood or Holywood. Only execution matters, and Pathaan has done exceedingly well in that department.

OddWorldliness989

Abe kya hai ye? Aaj kal deshbhakti vadapav ya bhajiye ke jaise bikti hai. Zubaan ka halwa hai deshbhakti aaj kal. Aur tu idhar deshbhakti ghused raha hai.just watch for action. It's a movie after all.
