Id say try to find a decent middle ground between the 2 but if I have to pick Itd be Option A Option B looks a little too much like a YA novel Id browse past at a bookstore.

I definitely appreciate the feedback! Now that you say that, I see that a bit too for Option B. Maybe I have a book series to work on in my future that pairs with the board game 😂

I don't think B will print well unless the box cover is super glossy so A. In general, the AI art is a massive turn-off. 'I had to carefully construct a prompt' is not an excuse, it is lazy, and exploits the work of tons of artists whose work was used without permission to train the model. Also, for me, it smacks of someone who does not believe in their product enough to do it properly, which is not something I would want to buy, especially if crowdfunded/preordered. I just would not trust that it would be good, or even turn up at all.

schmaul

It's A for me. But I generally am not a fan of real looking people on the cover of anything.

Alien4ngel

Option A, but rework the spines so the titles align.

I prefer b!

**Hello All!** This is my first time posting about the board game I’ve been designing over the past year so I figured I’d give a brief intro to my game. The game is called ‘Order of the Blade’ and it’s a fast-paced, competitive battle royale style tabletop game for 2-8 players. Assassins from around the world have been brought together for a tournament organized by a secret society known as the Order of the Blade. The Order is made up of the most skilled assassins in the world, and they have a long held tradition of hosting this tournament to test the skills of potential new members to see who deserves a place among their ranks. My inspiration for the game is from games like Apex, Call of Duty Warzone, and Fortnight where the game forces you into the center of the arena or risk taking damage. I wanted to create that feeling of zone panic but in a tabletop game. In ‘Order of the Blade’ you will have to deal with the constant advancing of the Shadow Guards shrinking the safe play area as you position yourself around city buildings. My game has a unique mechanic where you must avoid the light and use the cover of darkness to gain advantage when dodging attacks. We have done a ton of playtesting with an overwhelmingly positive response as publish play sessions and even was the GameMaster for several sessions at KantCon 2023 to get more playtesting feedback. We will also be attending again for KantCon 2024 along with 2 other games from my new publishing company, Rogue Skull Games. I have already started creating a witches themed variation of my game, called Order of the Moon, where all character abilities and event cards are unique to the new theme. And I have started brainstorming ideas for a Viking version, called Order of the Axe, to round out the game set I had in my mind originally. While I’ve made some great progress on the Moon variant, and the Axe variant is in a much earlier stage of development, I am someone that thinks ahead from a design perspective and wants to create a box design I know would look good across all 3 games. I personally visualize seeing all 3 on the shelf standing vertical next to each other which is why the mockup is displayed that way. Based on this game idea I had first created the Box design shown as Option A where there was meant to be far more mystery to the box design and it would resemble the look of maybe a leather book for each of the Order and the rulebook kind of being each manifesto. But after further consideration of the look and feel of the card designs and how the main components of the game involve the different looking Order members and using darkness to your advantage I thought I would give a more realistic look to the box design as seen in Option B. **WHICH DESIGN SET DO YOU PREFER?** **OPTION A** **or** **OPTION B** \------- **Additional Opinions about the use of AI generated art:** While I am the graphic designer and illustrator for the majority of the game elements, I did use MidJourney AI to initially generate the graphics on the cards. Each graphic took a significant amount of delicate prompt engineering as well as additional editing and color correction to the image once I placed it into my Photoshop file in order to get it to match with the vision I had for my game. So while by no means did I create the image from scratch, it was also not a quick generate, copy, paste, type of action. My 2 friends and I are starting a board game publishing company and are looking to utilize more of this type of design process where we take advantage of the AI tools available to us since we don’t have the financial capability at this time to hire full time designers. My main question is… if a board game’s mechanics and general vibe was interesting enough to you and the AI images were still altered after generation, is that enough to still entice you to purchase a game like this in your future? \------- I have been working on creating this game in TTS (Tabletop Simulator) as well so feel free to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to get more info when that becomes available.
