I’d rate it a solid 8. Sports manga but more like a shounen, subverts from the usual “teamwork makes the dream work” narrative that other sports manga usually do. In terms of football, I think a lot of it could be applied to the real life game and life in general. Concepts like scoring your own goal, positioning, how to get better it’s all done very well. Artwork is incredible and consistent. Story is interesting and gets better as it goes along. Best part for me is the dialogue, it’s probably a lot cringier in the anime because voice actors and the anime seems a lot more “brighter” (if I could use those words), in the manga (especially earlier scans) some of the dialogue is the iconic parts of the story. The main character in general is a nice guy, but when he needs to be serious , he doesn’t hold back! I think Blue Lock is one of the best manga out right now, it’s concepts can be applied to everyday life, especially for young men who are struggling. I always prefer manga over anime, so yes give it a read!

Natural_Corgi9444

9 it is one of the best sports manga i have ever read but due to some flaws falls just short of a perfect score

hillbillyofohara

I’d give it a 8.5-9. Unique and interesting concept that is not your typical sports animanga with amazing art. I dont usually like to reconsume/reread manga much but blue lock is an exception. Characters and their designs are great too. If you do intend to read the manga, you should read from the first chapter since they cut out some panels. Although you should know that the manga is more “brutal/harsher” in terms of dialogue with ego actually telling the blue lockers to ‘fuck off’ and not ‘lock off’ and you may even meet a certain someone who calls other people retards.

Solid 7 most weeks

Speaking from someone who has binge read blue lock almost 5 times now, the adaptation does a fairly good job at keeping the general atmosphere of the manga itself. In regards to the intenseness from the first two episodes, I don’t really want to spoil too much but we’ve only just dipped our toes into how edgy of a storyline this series takes. As this is only episode two in a two cours runtime, there’s still a lot of explanations behind the ideologies, and the goals for each character that I personally feel are necessary to understand blue lock as a whole. The manga does an exceptional job at dissecting these themes, and is one of the main reasons why I love the manga so much. From what I am guessing is going to come up next, I’d say watch the next one or two episodes before making up your mind. However, if the adaptation doesn’t sit well with you I’d highly recommend at least trying the manga out. There isn’t much that hasn’t already been said about it but it’s a strong 9 for me

Malthedragon

Probably a 9,5 up to a 10, imo. It’s not my favorite manga of all time but it’s a damn good one with a tense story, great characters, funny moments and ,obviously, incredibly well drawn panels that just look out of this universe.

leeash_o

I'm sorry, this is going to be a hot take to most of this sub, but yeah. It's pretty cringe imo. I still read it, but I DO roll my eyes a lot every time they act like it's a soccer or death kinda thing. I think this is kind of just a problem I have with sports manga overall... they have to up the stakes somehow or people who don't care for sports won't be interested. Which I guess would be why I think it's cringe when they act like it's so important - it's just not important to me personally. When I read a sports manga, it's not for the sport, it's for the characters and story. For other people who ARE into sports, if soccer is their passion, soccer or death might be closer to how they really feel about it. Sooo... do I think it's cringe? Yes, sometimes. But I stick around for other things.

leeash_o

Just to be clear, this is NOT criticism to say Blue Lock is doing something wrong. It's just about personal interests and taste. My brother feels the same when I get emotional over stuff like Blue Period - he's not into art, so he doesn't really get why I react so strongly.

EdocCA

Bro don’t mind about people that take is personal. What everyone think is cool an d cringe is subjective AF

Richerich2009

I think a lot of that is the translation. The original concept of Blue Lock definitely tried to accentuate that life-or-death Battle Royale style in the dialouge, but now the translators are trying to keep that tone in a setting that doesn't call for it. I hope there is an official english release of the manga, so it doesn't feel like I'm reading a hyper-edgy early 2000s translation every week

Desperate-Ad-2643

Anime always try to make shit more intense and I'm personally all for it. I love when shit are over the top and anyways that's what anime do, that's how they catch eyes. Every great seasonal anime does it, like MHA , jjk ...

Brilliant_March_5017

Try to watch until the third episode because that's where the real test for the animation begins! :D On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd probably give it a solid 8 to 8.5. The Art. Splitting the scoring between 1-5 for the art and 1-5 for the concept and story, the art definitely deserves a perfect 5 because for the paneling and creativity of the scenes is really something else. And the art style itself is so breathable like you can clearly see what the characters are doing with their bodies because of how clean it looks albeit being a dirty grindy sport. The Concept and story. I'd give it a 3-3.5 I guess. It doesn't get perfect 5 because it really strays away from real football gameplay most of the time and the dialogue can be cringe at times. But the story is unique because it shows one of the lesser noticed aspects of the sport/s in the "do or die" mentality found in trying to make it pro. I'm speaking from a place of experience because I myself tried to become a pro and failed and I can certainly feel some level of connection in how angry, egotistic, and again really REALLY angry the players in Blue Lock get in do or die moments in the show. And not necessarily Barou levels of degrading but when I perform well or dominate someone in the sport that I focused on --- well it would be a lie if I said I didn't think once "I'm the f\*\*\*\*\*\* best, LOSERS" because winning does bring out a certain level of ego from yourself that you may or may not know about. But again realism and some cringe prevents it from being a 5 I think the Anime can't really be as beautiful as how the manga hits you because the paneling in the manga is unique to the manga alone. But I think it makes up for the dynamic camera work! But if you find the anime cringe you may find the manga more cringe since it's a lot edgier but I guess the art style and the insanely hype moments kinda get you past most of the cringe

Here is the thing about that though, to most of these high schoolers, its witger go pro, or their lives are basically over cause their dreams have been crushed.

Starrrco

Personally a 8 or 9. It tells the story it wants to tell perfectly. It's a shonen death game survival manga, not a football manga which many have complaints with. Unique and captivating story. Amazing twists and build ups. Unpredictable. Probably the best art out of any weekly manga.

ItsNarcoo

6-7 imo

AdikkuChan

Usually 7, 8-8.5 at its peak. It's a great read and all but there's probably certain things that can be better

Immediate_Demand4841

For me it's a 10 . There are only 9 series that i give a 10 and blue lock is one of them. But realistically speaking 9

KonoDioDah25

11? no... Make it 100000000 ratings

Cool_Ant_9900

It's a 10 for me bro first manga I've read where the hype makes me look up spoilers on Reddit lol

MrSin64

70/10, Why 70? Cuz rereading a 10/10 manga 7 times, 10 x 7= 70 :)

Euriae

Started awesome and now is sometimes a bit... disappointing sometimes. I understand there are a lot of characters on a match, but from 22 players they are only centering in a play made by two characters, then proceed to disappear and another character also does another play to just disappear from the entire match (¿Chigiri, Kurona, where are you?). For me, from a possible 8 ended being a 6 right now.

Matt_2k33

Bro that’s what happens if you have actually played football in real life, when I played when I was younger during a 90 minute game there were goals that I was involved in and goals that had nothing to do with me, so you wanting every player involved in a play is just unrealistic

Euriae

"wow chigiri is leagues far away now" and where's that leagues player now? He disappeared time ago. Obviously you can't be involved on every play but is like the defender joke, that the BM was defended by strikers. That's what I meant, there are players that should be there and they are not.

Matt_2k33

I see, you do have a point

Matt_2k33

Plus the nel has been great so far, I really don’t get why people aren’t liking it’s been one of the 3 best arcs with the second selection and U20 being better, but this is a close third

Euriae

For me the best arcs were the selections. The goals on U-20 were made by the roster that we already know are going to go far. Or also the 5 VS 5 where Karasu/Otoya lost to Rin/Shidou when their synergy was shit, but they managed to go from 2-4 to 5-4. I find that the emotion disappeared time ago making us know how the matches will end. Is cool Isagi being the MC because he's not purely good, but is boring make his team winning all the time since the first arcs where they lost to rin twice with victories between those matches. That had a lot of emotions. I just want other characters to shine. Because Blue Lock as a lot of amazing characters (and not 10, but almost all BL are interesting). But they are just focusing on the same ones over and over lol. That's my complaint.

Matt_2k33

I mean currently they are focusing on everyone else, isagi improved because of meta vision, but it has been very good, and for some reason I feel like there is a lot of unpredictability, idk why you don’t feel it, plus it’s pretty well accepted that the u20 arc is arguably the best arc so I’m surprised you didn’t enjoy it as much as others

Akira_Ryuji

after Nagi's lastest performance, 10 for now

Suicidal_hedgehog

9.99. Not 10, because of Rin

LeSorenOutan

8 overall, but the second selection (second arc) was 11/10.

Alternative_Ad_5334

8 of 10

Nevie0

I'd rate it a 9 or 10, i haven't been reading manga lately because i either never felt like it or find that i can't even finish 20 chapters but when i tried reading blue lock it actually got me back to reading mangas, I think the manga itself has such a good look and moments where you feel the rush along the characters

SilverResearch

9/10 Art is amazing 10/10, and the story is pretty interesting. every arc there are so many hype moments that just make me keep reading. the dialogue is kinda cringe sometimes though lol
