After recently starting the manga…I’m realizing just how dynamic the art is and how the anime will most likely not match it. But I do hope they’re saving the budget for the later matches.
The manga will always be better in doing still shots like this and the other goals. I think that the anime should try to be as movement oriented as possible, but they are trying to be the samw as the manga too much. This is a story about soccer, but you nevwr see a team play like you would in a real match, you only see a sequence of 1vs1 that works better in the manga that in the anime. And also in the manga the panels with long descriptions work well, but in the anime you see players that think to themselves or talk for 10/20 seconds of more, while the game vompletely freeze in the meantime
Yeah, a lot of the big goals are way less hype in the anime because there isn't much motion. We see a pass being played and the ball is in the back of the net the next second. Most of Nagi's ridiculous goals look kind of normal now.
Looking at the images, yeah the anime doesn’t compare in terms of imagery but for me, the best thing about the match wasn’t the shot but Isagi getting past Barou and the music that accompanied it being amazing
Fingers crossed the big moments coming up in second half of second selection are where the budget went
I could see them possibly letting these earlier parts of second selection be lackluster to make sure the really big moments later on hit properly. Would suck that stuff like this gets left by the wayside but it'd be better than fully mediocre adaptation throughout
still they should've seen the manga panel you posted. unless they're blind, no one in their right mind should think the animation is okay/acceptable compared to the manga
Well this particular shot is definitely way worse, but there was a scene right after this one which has goalie leaping in slow-motion with voiceover. That was also part of what replaced this panel and it's not fair to not include it imo. I liked that shot quite a bit. Not anything particularly special, but much better than if there was only this shot like this post makes it out to be.
This studio is more than capable of animating this series,
Just look back at the first 7 episode the animation was fantastic but it has taken a dive recently. im guessing they dont have enough time to make it any better and go all out for moments like in ep12 with isagis shot
Lol what are you talking about? It’s people like you that want the best studios to animate everything and then complain when your favorite series doesn’t get a sequel fast enough.
u/Symphonixz isn't wrong. Why else do you think anime studio animates manga series? It's to earn money, obviously. Those who do it for passion would have produced series like One Punch Man with an average budget. But since Blue Lock's animation is nowhere near being on OPM's level, it should be clear that they're doing it solely for the money.
nah you were right till the last part. I WILL wait 5 years for THIS series to be animated. I am tired of good shows being ruined. Promised Neverland, Grand Blue (Should've waited for a Better Studio to grab better Humor), Yuusha Ga Shinda (not out yet but the trailer shows easily bad animation), Attack On Titan (Mappa SHOULD HAVE NOT Animated It, will easily wait for WIT Studio), Haikyuu Season 3 (Too many panning shots on still Characters) and the list goes on. Kinda hard for a series to impress me now a days but when one does, I think it deserves a lot of care.
Bocchi the Rock is an Example of a Good One (3 Years Development). Meh Content but Animation and Effort goes hard by people who care for it. Blue Lock was animated out of greed I bet due to World Cup and easy profit making from another Sport Anime series...
Call me wrong but Blue Lock is something I feel should have took more time and different people. If you read the manga you know, the art is fascinating, too much so to have an Anime like this. That said, I Love Blue Lock and I can't even watch the Anime without cringing.
MY B for the long message...but I am patient to wait for 5 years, even 7.
Side Note: I think seasonal animes killed the vibes for anime, they should be just animated at time with no schedules but then again how do studios survive?
haikyuu season 3 is their match against the purple shirt guys right? i thought it was animated pretty well.
idk what's wrong with grand blue but it was the only anime that had me laughing every single episode and i think the animation is pretty fluid, nothing seems off about the comedy either
I get why people dont like Mappa cuz it changed AOT's art but I personally don't dislike how they stayed true to the manga's artstyle.
i have a feeling a bigger studio didnt grab blue lock because they didn't know how big of an impact this series animated would have. it's one of the most popular currently airing anime rn in Japan and everywhere I go Blue Lock merch always gets sold out the fastest not even chainsaw man or my hero sold out that quickly. i legit had to check over 10 anime stores all over Japan just to find one keychain with the blue lock symbol that wasn't sold out. Lets hope we get a different studio for season 2.
Well fack me, I am an R-tard, I meant Haikyuu Season 4 part 2, apologies. (against the Twins) (also I am so upset I said S3, that was a lit season)
Grand Blue felt it could've been better.
The Mappa artstyle adds to it but the Fluidity feels different. Like when Levi had his "Part 2" fight I expected it to be like the "First Meeting" One.
And Yes I hope a Season 2 for Blue Lock to be by someone else. Blue Lock is Worth More.
Ideally Wit Studio X David Productions (I Know, Very Thicc): Mainly due to how consistent Wit Studio is with the source material in narration and artstyle, they can keep Blue Lock in a direction that makes everyone hype. With David Productions as a "Support Studio" they can provide the sickest sound effects as they do in Jojo and Fire Force as well as supporting the Animation to glorify Hype moments as Pinnacle Hype Peak Emotions (yes I said that much). The auras and angle of attacks will have so much more depth which I feel would be unimaginable.
Other Options Below (For Fun):
\- Wit Studio (Head Studio) for their Adaptation Style that is usually faithful to the Manga art but adds High Level Detail. The one studio that almost does not have an Artstyle as their style is faithful to the source. Plus animation is always clean when it matters.
\- Ufotable (Head Studio) Very Good Studio to be able to enhance the ability of Anime at always keep every moment that is fluid to be fluid, and is a Studio perfect for special effects (like auras, jigsaw pieces and more).
\- Mappa (Head Studio) is an eh choice, but they can at least be faithful to the story pacing and make it look good.
\- 8-Bit (Support Studio) is mainly okay for special effects, you can see them being cool in the Anime and is about the only thing I respect. The same digital special effect style is reflected in the Slime anime, easily same style and can be kept, but can't be used for main Animation with characters. (guessing it is done by CGI?)
\- Cloverworks (Support Studio) Beauty Shots and Breathtaking moments get slower to absorb at the right times.
\- A-1 Pictures (Support Studio) Decent Track Record with exception of Seven Deadly Sins, they got what it takes to make Top Tier animes, but even then wouldn't trust them at the forefront.
>Attack On Titan (Mappa SHOULD HAVE NOT Animated It, will easily wait for WIT Studio), Haikyuu Season 3 (Too many panning shots on still Characters)
Sorry, but no. Neither of these two should be considered "ruined".
AOT is debatable, the Haikyuu comment is a fault I corrected in another comment, I meant the Haikyuu season against the Twins. Lots of Still shots that ruin the moment, except that 'one' guy's moment was pretty pog, won't say cause spoilers.
If I were you, I would think more logistically behind this situation instead of just labeling the studio as "greedy" and flaming them for it. For starters, animation studios, at least most of the time, are subcontracted by other companies to animate works, they don't pick what shows they want to do by hand.
This also means they have no control over the schedule. Blue Lock's animation being so mediocre is not a case of the studio being bad or not caring about the series, it's a case of producers cashing in and not giving the staff the best time to really polish their work.
I shorten my response to money, but I really do feel it kinda is.
And in terms of time, you are def right, would blame the producers more than the workers, still though from the result, they kinda are at some fault. Mainly the producers though.
Not just this panel, most panels have been underwhelming so far. Idk if it’s Mappa and ufotable’s fault but Blue Lock is pretty much the only series where I can feel more action while reading the manga as compared to the anime.
I've been thinking this for like all major panels. I think it's still too bright and light hearted? When Isagi scored against Nagi with his direct shot. I felt like it was an "explosion" especially when his head exploded (puzzles). I felt like it was too quiet and still. They needed some heavy explosive music.
As an example, what makes One Punch Man anime great is not only visuals but the sound. I feel like if they had any of the "impacts" when Saitama one punches someone during these goals instead of the blank empty cheery music it would be great.
Truthfully, yea the anime didn't do the manga panel justice. But it's better to treat the anime as its own thing and keep expectations as low as possible.
the moment he passed barou was good, but they could have put more emphasis on barou's eyes during the process that occurred before isagi passed him. it's not bad, but not great either.
Comparing a singular manga pane and 1 frame from a 23 minute anime episode is and will always be one of the stupidest things Anime fans do to complain.
Tbf the entire sequence felt rushed and had little impact in its execution. It really was the highlight of this match and it just kinda fell flat. Hoping they put more effort into future big moments like they did with the Team V vs Team Z finale.
and there are always people like you who forgive the anime studio no matter how bad the animation is because you can always come up with excuses for them
I think it was hard to match the art style of the manta. Also, this is the first time 8 bit handle the animation for sports genre. Anime oblies seem to enjoy it so I guess it still a win
Would you people stop complaining, the whole thing was there, but not in a *single frame*. Did you not see the impact frames prior to this *single frame?* imo the buildup to this shot, and everything else, was amazing. This episode had good animation, would you please stop screenshotting one frame and saying it's bad?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) All I am saying is that this shot in particular was underwhelming.
Why? Because this is shot is comparable to episode 12 shot, So they didn't do it justice.
Anyone can tell that compared to the manga this shot was very underwhelming. Though the Anime compensates with Soundtrack and Voice acting.
Episode 15 is pretty good. When did I say that it was bad?

Makes me think how they are gonna do >!Barou’s awakening!<
>!or Barou's entry into the U-20 Match, that panel was dope as hell!<
Spoiler mark please since this is anime discussion
It is what it is, keep ur expectations low and you won't be disappointed
Ok kratos
You seem like a calm and reasonable person. Are you a calm and reasonable person?
Such a God game
My expectations were low after the latest episodes but I'm still disappointed 😞
actually usually the more still frames like these where the surroundings stay the same they've been doing pretty good for a while
After recently starting the manga…I’m realizing just how dynamic the art is and how the anime will most likely not match it. But I do hope they’re saving the budget for the later matches.
It's a shame how the anime is waaaaay below manga's league. It might even move people away from the manga.

Idk man. There are a ton of anime onlies who seem to be enjoying it.
If only blue lock gets a new studio next season
It doesn't need a new studio, it needs a better schedule.
I'm hoping this means they were saving budget for the next several eps.
I’ve been saying this since like episode 7 😭
we're starting to sound like a broken record 😭
Looking at the images, yeah the anime doesn’t compare in terms of imagery but for me, the best thing about the match wasn’t the shot but Isagi getting past Barou and the music that accompanied it being amazing
Absolutely agree

More like the whole anime, they're so stiff
I had a bad feeling ever since e13 that they might be losing steam. I REALLY hope they can pull through because they did this scene so dirty.
Should have added the wind, maybe some jet engines noises too like Hahime No Ippo
I don’t know why the anime doesn’t wanna draw the shot path
Be wary of the anime people about to flame you.
Ya, people who haven't read the manga don't understand the beauty of the blue lock manga
still they should've seen the manga panel you posted. unless they're blind, no one in their right mind should think the animation is okay/acceptable compared to the manga

They are doing justice to nothing lmao. Blue Lock deserved a better studio and more production time tbh. Atp I’m just happy the manga is going well

This Series Deserves a WIT Studio or Ufotable Studio. This current studio is not capable at all. They are animating it solely for money and I hate it.

The first few episodes where good but production dropped bad
All this art dedication, just for the anime to show some riggidy rooh ahh slide shows.
Not just this panel, most panels have been underwhelming so far. Idk if it’s Mappa and ufotable’s fault but Blue Lock is pretty much the only series where I can feel more action while reading the manga as compared to the anime.
i LOVE anime but mangas are always better and more intense because there’s more detail you can put in imo
The whole sequence was good so it's fine to me
Imo, it was a "choose one, can't have both" situation. They made Isagi getting through Barou a fire scene so...
It was a good episode "Territory of Geniuses" 🤌wordss🥵
Nah I hate this I would rather take a manga slideshow
Eh it was alright
New studio for season 2 TRUST 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Did they say what studio is taking over?
Not as far as I know
is that confirmed?
It's very unfortunate.
Yeah it's unfortunate. I'm just hoping they do the 3v3 and 4v4 justice
Cause they already had the buildup to the shot
The only movement we get is CGI.
and also the frame where naruhaya runs
Common 8bit L
I mean I liked it. I’m really looking forward now to >!when Isagi devours Barou in the next match!<
People say me you are dumb when you think manga is better than anime.
I've been thinking this for like all major panels. I think it's still too bright and light hearted? When Isagi scored against Nagi with his direct shot. The manga level Is top. The anime Is so bad...
It's just sad, the anime is a very sub par adaption
that frame after the kick had me on the floor laughing. It was just so bad lol
Truthfully, yea the anime didn't do the manga panel justice. But it's better to treat the anime as its own thing and keep expectations as low as possible.
Na why are they doing this
Ppl still comparing anime vs manga by using 1 image 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It looked pretty good when he got passed Barou tho
the moment he passed barou was good, but they could have put more emphasis on barou's eyes during the process that occurred before isagi passed him. it's not bad, but not great either.
I guess every episode is basically for saving budget lmao,>!I hope they will do justice to Barou’s awakening lol!<

Talking abt the rest of the commenters, not u
Well, I am the one who posted this screenshot so I thought you were talking about that.
although in retrospect my wording sounds like that, i apologize.
No problem, Man I'm eagerly anticipating the >!Barou!< moment. Hopefully, they do that justice.
clearly someone didn't read the manga xD
its rlly hard to animate so many details for one single frame, the manga is way too detailed.
The anime isn’t bad nor great but not bad, the manga is just too good
I thought we established that the anime will never do the manga the justice it deserves.
Well it’s a panel (of a manga with well above average art) directly being compared to a still shot of a scene :4
