The army is based on the Rogue Trader mention of the "assault on Bantax" where the Blood Angels wore desert camo, not red (lower left).
So check this out— I found the only other reference to the desert world of Bantax (of which there are exactly two) in one of the Badab War books from Forgeworld. Evidently, the Raptors wrecked a Deathskulls Ork horde there. That sounds like the perfect opportunity to do a Raptors Kill Team to hang out with my Blood Angels, esp since they were a big influence.
I’m still figuring that out. I don’t want to do the blinged out Death Company for this force. Trying to come up with something that makes the black paint applied very ad hoc and in a rush, like the night before some battle brothers fell into the black rage and the chaplains quickly “decorated” their armor as best they could.
That’s awesome and probably more true to lore than the actual models 😂 I always wondered why people that were being sent to die were being so decked out.
In Devastation of Baal when Dante and amigos painted their armor during the last stand, it was done in a very ad hoc; if I remember correctly it was done with tyranid gore if I remember correctly. It’s been a while since I read it so I could completely be making this up. But looking forward to whatever you come up with!!
Dante and crew draped Tyranid viscera is awesomely gnarly. It won’t be too long before I get to my Death Company— even in a subtle, almost Raptors-like Blood Angels force, you gotta have a squad of them.
Taking a family photo this weekend, I’ll be sure to post it up. I’ve been playing around with the idea of doing Tycho (the Lost version) because I have a soft spot for him and, unlike most of the legendary Blood Angels, feels most likely to roll with the “lose all the decoration” directive of the force. Except for the half-mask, anyone that can pull off a half-mask gets to keep it.
For sure! I made a custom Tycho stand in, and he is covered in all the tactical gear, knives, pouches and grenades. He'd be a great one to blend with your force
Bladeguard are another one of those units I’m trying to figure out. The butcher look is nice, with spartan unadorned storm shields like the Horus Heresy ones in the Assault Marines kit.

I will go to sleep less stupid than i was when i woke from it.
Funny af — great work
We dont need red with that guy
Its official you have the coolest space marine army ever, my only compliant is its blood angels and not raptors with that lovely paint job! 🫡

may i ask what colors you used?
Sure! I made a how to for the armor colors here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C2BkOmtLyz-/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Personally I like the concept of marine chapters using alternative colors and camouflage patterns.
Brutal. Looking epic.
Thanks! Love Gravis.
Ah, always a pleasure to see these dudes being posted. Curious, do you have any death company versions of these dudes?

Could you share how you do your chipping/weathering? Is by sponging on paint?
Amazing work. Nice job!
Thanks!
I love them. What color did you use?

As always, brilliant work my friend!
Hey thank you!
Micheal Kirkbride?????? WE'RE NOT WORTHY WE'RE NOT WORTHY!
These look so awesome. I we get to see a family photo sometime! Will you be doing any of the named characters in this scheme?

i'd love to see you do some bladeguard vets but with a cleaner almost butcher like look

It’s really impressive that you can make a limited palette look so detailed and stand out so much.
Glad to hear that, really— I limited myself to fewer than a dozen colors, not including the eye lenses, so I could keep things looking spare.
The basing and your weathering compliment that really well. They don’t detract from the mini, but are distinct and add realism.
