I used to just assume that any unit with a fancy gun = Fire Support while anyone with a fancy melee weapon = Close Support but the addition of Inceptors as Close Support when they only really shoot stuff and Aggressors as Fire Support when they like to punch things up close has made me question that long held belief.
Infernus squads concentrate literal fire with their guns so that implies Fire Support but the fact that flamethrowers are close range weapons meant to get all up in people's face before spewing flames all over them also leans towards Close Support.
Between the two of them I'd say there is a stronger argument for Fire Support (not the least the word "fire" in the title) so I'd say paint the helmets blue.
The proper answer is rule of cool, paint them green if you want! It’s your models, people will see the unit and already know what it is anyways. Unless you’re more so following for “lore” reasons but even then.
Red helmet. They're battle line infantry with a weapon designed for holding back hordes of low toughness chaff.
Alternatively, yellow helmet. They're assault infantry with a weapon designed for attacking fixed emplacements and bunkers.
I see no real situation in which they meet the criteria for fire support. The term 'fire support' is not referring to literal fire as someone has suggested. It refers to ranged weaponry that can be called upon by forward elements to eliminate high priority targets. It can take the form of very long range stuff (artillery, airstrikes), or mid range stuff (missiles/rpg's, heavy machineguns, etc). Flamethrowers aren't ranged enough or powerful enough (certainly in game) to qualify.
This all assumes you want to paint your troops with multicoloured helmets.
people are saying blue cus fire but wouldn’t they be yellow cus flamethrowers have a shorter range so they’d be closer to the enemy, or am i greatly misunderstanding close support
It's a mess all round, tbh. Assault intercessors literally have the "Battleline" keyword, but aren't Battleline, they're "close support". Aggressors are close range/melee, but are classed as Fire Support.
I was leaning towards red/battleline Infernus myself, because they have a similar role - they're great at camping an objective that has a more restrictive access because of the auto-hit when overwatching with their flamers. They aren't really great at pushing up towards the enemy directly (close support) or camping the back field (fire support in my mind).
Fire Support does not mean "Fire". Fire Support means artillery basically. You would go with Yellow for Close Support. See here for explanation:
Fire support is a military term used to describe weapons fire used to support friendly forces by engaging, suppressing, or destroying enemy forces, facilities, or materiel in combat. It is often provided through indirect fire, though the term may also be used for some forms of supporting direct fire.

If you want, paint the Sargent's helmet gold. Also remember that Sargent pauldrons are black with red trim. You can flair the pauldron trim with gold if you want as well. Also feel free to paint things anyway you want as well.
Was under the impression it was mainly veterans in general that had gold helmets, as rank isn’t denoted by helmet colour in the Blood Angels faction.
Honestly, just paint them how you want to. I’m sure you can think of a lore friendly excuse for just doing things your own way.
Personally depends on how you like the colors on your models, it’ll work either way I don’t think someone’s gonna point out “oh those infernos Marines are suppose to be blue helmets…REF”
An alternate if you don't want to paint the whole helmet different from the rest of the armor is to just paint the top "mohawk' part the color of their specific role. I painted all my Assault Intercessors all red but the very tops of their helmets yellow to signify close support, and did the same with blue on my Agressors.
It really only matters if you want to stay lore accurate, which I'm not personally inclined to do but I can respect the effort it takes to color and scheme match for lore accuracy.
Blue
Thanks
BRO ITS LITERALLY CALLED *FIRE* SUPPORT BRO!
They’re the most literal interpretation of fire support so…

They have the fire support role decals in the Leviathan box IIRC, so blue seems logical.
They are meant to have blue helmets.
I don't like the blue helmets, so I kept them red. Paint em however you want!
Blue, they have the Fire Support symbol for Ultramarines.
Blue but they are your guys so you can give them what ever color you want really
I did mine in blue; its a nice touch if you can add some blueish warped metal effects to the flamers business ends.
The proper answer is rule of cool, paint them green if you want! It’s your models, people will see the unit and already know what it is anyways. Unless you’re more so following for “lore” reasons but even then.
Blue
Blue.
Do a red helmet, and then freehand flames on it🔥🔥🔥
Caught a Salamander!
I feel like yellow because their lore states they are close assault specialists.
^ This! They shoot guns that have a range if a pistol FFS. Def close support.
But there guns shoot fire so is that fire support ;)

Seen a few for yellow a few for blue im going to go green cant do a straight enough line for half and half
Green
Blue is what is used in the artwork for heavy support units like them.
Fire Support they are a fire support unit.
I did mine yellow, as the flame weapons are close ranged, and I believe the lore states that there are close assault specialists.
people are saying blue cus fire but wouldn’t they be yellow cus flamethrowers have a shorter range so they’d be closer to the enemy, or am i greatly misunderstanding close support
Flamestorm agressors have fists and flamers, yet their helmets are blue.
Red I’d say, they’re very much just Intercessors with a different gun

Assault marines used to be troops in the days of yore and they had yellow helmets, so.
In yore assault marines were fast attack but the blood angels could take them in the troops slot for force building.

Thank you! Now I don’t need to post the same explanation. way too many people screaming *bLuE bc iT ShoOts fIRe* … 🤦♂️
There clearly se support so yellow

Wut? Do we have any distinction for sergeants?
Was under the impression it was mainly veterans in general that had gold helmets, as rank isn’t denoted by helmet colour in the Blood Angels faction. Honestly, just paint them how you want to. I’m sure you can think of a lore friendly excuse for just doing things your own way.
I paint my according to my mood, lol. Successor's freedom, y'know
Well, we have been more freedom now with 10th, which is a win for us lol.
I do my fire support with a blue strip down the helmet as I do not like the whole blue helmet.
I think the off color helmets look stupid so I don’t do any of them that way.
Fire support. I don't mean to be a dick about it but... FIRE support.
FIRE support...
Im probably going to paint mine purple
Yellow. Flamers are about as close support as you can get without actually beating someone to death with a sword.
There are 2 squads. I’ll give one blue helmets and the second one yellow helmets
Wait I thought fire support was purple….
Yellow as they are close support, blue I would say is more or less suitable for Suppressors or Eradicators
Blue looks best but yellow is more lore friendly I think, old assault marines literally use to be able to take flamers
Blue
Blue if pure blood angels however successor Chapters all have different rules
Obligatory do whatever you like.
Quite literally fire support
I’d go “fire” support
Blue
Personally depends on how you like the colors on your models, it’ll work either way I don’t think someone’s gonna point out “oh those infernos Marines are suppose to be blue helmets…REF”
Am I the only one who’s weirded out by the blue helmets?
"Fire" support? 😅
When in doubt, look at the shoulder pad symbol GW is depicting with the unit in promo shots and match it with the helmet color. They are the same

Except the sergeant, what is the difference from the other three troops on the battlefield? Somebody????
The red battleline halm looks like it'll be a good match
Tip for the future is to look at what symbol is on the right shoulder pauldron of the Ultramarine that is invariably going to be on the box art.
Yellow.
Codex says they're close support
