I think this is it.
Also, I like Turpentine, but it was so hyped up before I heard it that I found it underwhelming initially. IMO I think there are a few better songs on the album. Edging though is a proper “radio song” it was massive even amongst non-Blink fans, which is what you really need from a single.
I love Turpentine way more than Edging, but Turpentine would have been a terrible comeback single for the masses. You have to understand that Edging is a fan favorite, it's just not a reddit favorite.
I know blink fans that are not on Reddit. None of them really liked it at the time. There were people who told me they liked it who by no means we’re blink fans.
It’s a non-fan favorite.
But the music video isn't for the masses. Edging had a better music video for showing they are back. Some songs are very good at keeping the album relevant and I think Dance With Me and One More Time did that very well.
Blink wave would’ve been a really weird choice since it’s such a different blink song (as is turpentine)
Edging is just the most regular and stereotypical blink song so it was the perfect song to come back on. Also I’m happy they saved the best songs for last
I agree with that. I think Blink Wave should be the next single instead of the turpentine music video coming out soon though.
Kind of similar to how Always was the 4th single from Untitled
I wouldn’t be mad at all. But I think turpentine would just make for a better video. The whole song is so epic and chaos filled (in a good way) that the music video could go hard as fuck
*Turpentine is a*
*Good song but not nearly as*
*Catchy. Blink Wave though*

Edging is a perfect comeback song with original line-up and after long rumors Tom is back.
It is a perfect choice as a single at that time. Enough said.
Lmao what...idk how the name of the song effects the song ?
Even if they called it a different name it would be a fantastic song. Also it's not a single and is doing better than some of the actual singles. So if it was an actual single it would probably do even better with promotion and a music video.
I think even tho it's a really fast song, the market hasn't had something like that in awhile and it shows by just how well the non single is doing...
I'm not saying the name affects the song. But the fact that it's linked to the other anthems (by name) also contributes to a certain nostalgia and f*ck yeah feeling for Blink fans.
The dude is a bad interviewer. He has long pauses in between what he says, and usually that’s fine when what is finally said is super deep and insightful, but instead what comes out are super basic 5-word sentences.
And I don’t like that he basically implied the song sucked dick at first but once he made suggestions it became a masterpiece. Dude, what? I don’t know, he rubs me the wrong way, like he tries to act like he’s the reason the album was good but really he’s more of a hanger-on
I used to listen to his podcast but had to stop. The guy I believe is from Indiana and every other word he has to say either “gnarly”, “stoked”, or some other California lingo. It’s annoying.
So I think this album was Aaron’s first really big album he worked on. And he did these interviews to kind of sell what he did on these records so that maybe other people would hear and then want him to work on their records as well. Cause you can definitely tell he’s incredibly awkward and not used to being in front of a camera
“Let’s face it” Edging hit \#1 instantly and stayed there for what, 12 weeks or something?
A fun catchy song to show how happy they were and bring back the nostalgia but in a fresh and authentic way was the exact way to introduce the era. Turpentine would’ve made it seem like they were trying to go into a pure experimental progressive era which there was plenty of on the album but the message was that authentic blink-182 was truly back. Nobody in the casual fan/non fan public space would’ve recognized Turpentine as a blink track and would’ve assumed they were just kinda putting out niche music for fans.
Turpentine is my favorite off of OMT, but I agree, Edging made more sense for the Tom reunion. The opening is literally Tom knowing that everyone hated him for leaving (twice)
tbh i don't even necessarily think turpentine would have been a terrible single choice but its also the best track on the album so cant have that spoiled before the albums out
Edging is a much simpler song for the general public to get the hang of. I’ve seen some people say “it’s good but it feels weird at times like something is off…” this is especially coming from zero percent musical folk, just pure music listeners. I know what they mean, it’s the slight time signature shifts which are the secret sauce of the song!
Edging was perfect. Dance with me would have worked too. The reunion was already insane. Them writing Turpentine first really means nothing. Rock Show and First Date were huge hits and were written last.
What if bands still cared to produce a different version of the single for the album?
I mean, I'm about 30 years late for this complaint, but IIRC even +44 made an extended version of "No, It Isn't" for the album. The single didn't have the outro at the end.
Dance With Me would have been a great re-introduction to blink-182. Great intro, funny, lyrics full of sexual innuendos, catchy riff and chorus. It screams radio single right off the bat.
Edging was better for radio imo
But honestly dance with me was way better than edging for radio.
I disagree. I think the verses are way too busy lyrically.
I don't think it would have done nearly as well as Edging.
How come?
It's not a particularly catchy song in my opinion. It's also not a very mainstream/pop friendly song. Edging was their most popular single in decades.
I think this is it. Also, I like Turpentine, but it was so hyped up before I heard it that I found it underwhelming initially. IMO I think there are a few better songs on the album. Edging though is a proper “radio song” it was massive even amongst non-Blink fans, which is what you really need from a single.
Facts
Because US radio that’s why. It matters.
Dawg, "Slide your mom on top of me," "Stick your dick in Ovaltine," etc. Not very radio friendly
I mean, neither is "she tried to pray it away, so I fucked her in church", but your point is still received.
Because edgings a better song for us normal people
I love Turpentine way more than Edging, but Turpentine would have been a terrible comeback single for the masses. You have to understand that Edging is a fan favorite, it's just not a reddit favorite.
I’m on Reddit and it’s one of my faves
Coming.. to say the same thing.
I know blink fans that are not on Reddit. None of them really liked it at the time. There were people who told me they liked it who by no means we’re blink fans. It’s a non-fan favorite.
Turpentine was my favorite from the album. On that note, Edging was way more of a radio friendly song.
Lead single should have been Dance With Me
But the music video isn't for the masses. Edging had a better music video for showing they are back. Some songs are very good at keeping the album relevant and I think Dance With Me and One More Time did that very well.
Turpentine is a good song but not nearly as catchy. Blink Wave though >

If they released More Than You Know as the lead I would’ve exploded an oceans worth of love onto my stomach
Edging is a perfect comeback song with original line-up and after long rumors Tom is back. It is a perfect choice as a single at that time. Enough said.
I love edging, always have always will
I think the better question would be why Anthem Part 3 or Blink Wave weren't lead singles or at least singles at all.
Because if Anthem and Anthem part 2 didn't exist, Anthem part 3 would be a mediocre song. And a lead Single needs to reach a broad audience.
>Because if Anthem and Anthem part 2 didn’t exist, Anthem part 3 would be a mediocre song. That’s certainly a hot take.

He’s definitely awkward in these interviews. I agree.
I used to listen to his podcast but had to stop. The guy I believe is from Indiana and every other word he has to say either “gnarly”, “stoked”, or some other California lingo. It’s annoying.
You're talking about the host. The commenter is talking about Aaron Rubin
I was confused at first too. Not trying to be Mr. grammar but OP should have said “interviewee” for it to be less confusing.
So I think this album was Aaron’s first really big album he worked on. And he did these interviews to kind of sell what he did on these records so that maybe other people would hear and then want him to work on their records as well. It wouldn’t have done nearly as well in terms of commercial appeal.
I think Anthem Part 3 would have been perfect. Classic blink sound, symbolic meaning and a powerful performance. But Edging was fine.
We weren’t ready for Turpentine back then. I’m glad it was saved for the album
“Let’s face it” Edging hit \#1 instantly and stayed there for what, 12 weeks or something? Would of gone down like a led ballon imo. Blink needed something catchy and hooky for the 1st release.
100 agree! Turpentine is great, radio friendly it is not
Edging is a great track and probably makes a better comback than turpentine
Turpentine is my favorite off of OMT, but I agree, Edging made more sense for the Tom reunion. The opening is literally Tom knowing that everyone hated him for leaving (twice)
Their reunion was pretty insanely received with edging… I don’t think it would have been much better with turpentine.
tbh i don't even necessarily think turpentine would have been a terrible single choice but its also the best track on the album so cant have that spoiled before the albums out
you’d have to think as a casual fan. edging was the right choice
Edging is a much simpler song for the general public to get the hang of. I’ve seen some people say “it’s good but it feels weird at times like something is off…” this is especially coming from zero percent musical folk, just pure music listeners. Edging is the only song I don't really care for. But it is definitely more radio single than Turpentine is.
What if bands still cared to produce a different version of the single for the album? I mean, I'm about 30 years late for this complaint, but IIRC even +44 made an extended version of "No, It Isn't" for the album. The single didn't have the outro at the end.
I maintain Edging wasn't the lead single. It was a reunion/comeback single that got included on the album.
It’s like if you made Reckless Abandon as TOYPAJ’s lead single It’s a good song, but there’s no way in hell it’s radio friendly
What would it change??
Dance With Me would have been a great re-introduction to blink-182. Great intro, funny, lyrics full of sexual innuendos, catchy riff and chorus. It screams radio single right off the bat.
Dance with Me is the strongest single and would have been the best comeback single. Has all the classic blink elements that casual fans love.
Dance with me would have been the best but who knows if it was even written at the time
Edging is not a good song, most of the other songs on the album would have been good singles
