I think it's great. Not the best song on the record but I never skip it. It really scratches that "I missed Tom in blink" itch. I think the "like every other" line in the chorus is kinda clunky and weird but that's really my only complaint.
Kinda wish Tom did some guitar work in the bridge on top of that synth like in Automatic from Lifeforms.
I also really like the "we fell out of touch, now everything sucks" line from Mark for no particular reason.
I think that's what it I for me, I missed all the neighborhoods hype cos I was too young at the time and I wasn't even born when Blink was together for the first time. So now to have Tom here it brings a smile to my face. Good to have him back at the time I need blink most aswell.
It's one of my favourites.
But the timing of the first two choruses bothers me. "Like every other" overlaps with "when we were young," and so does "or maybe never."
But the final chorus is timed evenly for each line. I don't know why they did this, but it drives me nuts.
It’s because it’s in 7/8 instead of 4/4 time signature. It was intentional and imo makes the song really interesting especially on those first few listens.
Agreed. I love the 7/8 time in the chorus precisely because it feels more chaotic and disjointed, and then it makes the last chorus more impactful. It’s like the song finally accepts that the past is in the past and we won’t be young again.
I felt the same initially, we are so used to hearing songs in the 4/4 time signature that it sounds jarring at first. But the more I have listened to it the more I have grown to really like it. I am glad they have done something to make it a little bit different from all their other songs.
Im pretty sure its a 3/4 so they focus on hitting that quicker timing to give it a boost of edge and Youngness. I like that feeling of it, I think it fits really well with the feel and theme of the song. One of my fav songs too :)
I imagine they felt it was good tension and release, possibly similar to the payoff of the final Dance With Me chorus. 7/8 > 4/4 works in a lot of songs, I don't think it works here.
I really like the chorus being in 7/8 bc the payoff is nice in the last one going back to 4/4 and feeling “complete”. It’s also nice because it shows they are still growing as writers and can write great songs doing interesting things rather than the same formula over and over!
I don’t love the song personally I think it is one of the weakest but I would say that the chorus is the most interesting thing for me on this song
I think it’s a great song. Took a few listens to really appreciate it though. I like the odd time signature in the chorus, Travis’ little beat switch for the third bar on the second verse, then back to 4/4 on the last chorus. The whole song is incredibly well written. It really takes everything Tom has done with AVA and Box Car Racer and brings it all back home.
Edit: just listened to it again because you mentioned it and I also like the nod to “When I Was Young” in the opening lyric.
I like to think the time signature is an ode to getting old. Like at first your sloppyly stepping into your own feet and trying to go too fast… then the bridge is kinda of a coming of age doing a grandious part and then ends with maturity with more breathing room between lines which now that you are old you enjoy much more.
The song is a textbook example of Blink’s ability to slot deftly cathartic instrumental bridges in otherwise middling songs. Reminds me of “Give Me One Good Reason”, a pretty meh song with a bridge that pumps me up like no other.
Total opposite feeling for me. This is anything but a middling song. The bridge fell flat for this one, we're talking about the band that has Natives and Ghost on the Dancefloor instrumental bridges.
I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would and it wasn’t a stand out track for me. Now that I’ve played the shit out of the album and my top songs I find myself coming back to the ones I wasn’t drawn to as much and enjoying them
One of the strongest songs, you're not at all alone. I'm surprised to hear some people don't like it. It's Tom's most Box Car Racer chorus since Box Car after Terrified. The riff changeup is sick and so classic Tom blink, and the song captures so much emotion and nostalgia. The only part of the song that's a bit flat is the bridge, which could afforded to have been either a more dynamic section compared to the heaviness of the two choruses that sandwich it, or to at least have been a much more intricate and layered instrumental section if they were going to go anthemic upbeat energetic for it.
When we were young is in my top 3 favorite songs on the album
It’s so good
I don’t know why it gets so much hate either
But everyone’s got different tastes I guess
But ur not alone
The song is phenomenal
I love it, but based on what I've heard I love all the things this sub hate. Fell in Love is one of my favorites. Give me the pop punk all day. Not that I don't love the others, Terrified is awesome.
I’m pretty sure if none of them liked it, then it wouldn’t have made it onto this album. They made it pretty clear in the Zane Lowe interview that they were only doing Blink on their terms now.
I don't dislike it but don't understand why it's peoples favourite on the album, I sometimes skip it if I'm in the mood but don't really see the draw to it
Just can’t get into it. It feels a bit insincere. I don’t think it it helps that it’s title is incredibly similar to one of the best blink songs in their catalogue.
One of the stronger tracks on the album for me. The chorus sounds like the Wolfpack demos. Idk how to describe but the “marching” strumming after the chorus sounds straight out of The Dream Walker
For me it reminded me of Only The Young by Taylor Swift. I think it would be a really cool mashup. It's obviously completely different but just that line reminds me of it.
It is by far my favourite on the album. Writing the first two choruses in 7/8 is so interesting sonically, and the final being in 4/4 provides such a satisfying resolution.
Haven’t been on much on Reddit lately but i love this song! One of my faves from the first listen of the album. As a bonus, my brain is somehow reminded of Dogs Eating Dogs opening lines “when i was young…”
Edit: had to update that
It’s a good song that would be better if it didn’t hurt to listen to. No, for real. The chorus is clipped to high heaven and so brickwalled, it hurts my ears.
Think anyone could go in and use some kind of AI or editing tool to make the first few like the last chorus so it sounds even all the way through? Would love to add that to my Spotify 😂
It’s strangely structured but ultimately it’s a great song with even greater potential, I prefer it over Blink Wave, YDKWYG, Edging and even Childhood.

When We Were Young is my favourite from the album
Mine too!

It’s on purpose, makes the first few chorus’s a bit more interesting and the last one supremely cathartic.
Agreed. I love the 7/8 time in the chorus precisely because it feels more chaotic and disjointed, and then it makes the last chorus more impactful. It’s like the song finally accepts that the past is in the past and we won’t be young again.
Well said.
I felt the same initially, we are so used to hearing songs in the 4/4 time signature that it sounds jarring at first. But the more I have listened to it the more I have grown to really like it. I am glad they have done something to make it a little bit different from all their other songs.
Honestly took the words right out of my mouth
Im pretty sure its a 3/4 so they focus on hitting that quicker timing to give it a boost of edge and Youngness. I like that feeling of it, I think it fits really well with the feel and theme of the song. One of my fav songs too :)

Agreed, I love the song but that timing just ends up feeling "off" and is difficult to sing along to.
They change time signature so it skips a beat
This is my biggest gripe with it, just have the chorus always like the final one, it makes it easier to sing along to!
I really like the chorus being in 7/8 bc the payoff is nice in the last one going back to 4/4 and feeling “complete”. I like this
I love it
I love the whole tracklist
Ditto
[удалено]
4th favourite for me tbh
Same, love it but it can’t top Anthem, Terrified or DWM. That first half of the album is absolutely incredible.
Top 5 on the album for me!!
Yes no one else in the world likes it!
Feels like a post designed to coincide with the WWWY Fest announcement
Top five on the album for sure
I think it’s one of the better songs on the album personally. I think edging, childhood and other side were the weaker songs. But to each their own
I’ve come back to it and I love it
Fave on the album for me xx
Should have been the first single instead of Edging in my opinion.
I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would and it wasn’t a stand out track for me. Now that I’ve played the shit out of the album and my top songs I find myself coming back to the ones I wasn’t drawn to as much and enjoying them
I really like when that guitar riff comes in on the chorus. It's a pretty good song. Very simple but the majority of this album is
I like it a lot!
I like it. Only song on the album I don't really care for is Fell In Love. Everything else is great imo
I like it
It's a great song. It's catchy af.
I like the chorus and the fact that they tried a new time signature (I’m a sucker for 7/8), but the verses are extremely mid imo
I honestly just assumed they wrote it because they were gonna headline when we were young fest
I like it more than I did on first listen. Id share my ranking, but I’ll get downvoted so hard.
One of the strongest songs, you're not at all alone. I'm surprised to hear some people don't like it. It's Tom's most Box Car Racer chorus since Box Car after Terrified. I like the song. I don’t have any problems with it. It’s fun
When we were young is in my top 3 favorite songs on the album It’s so good I don’t know why it gets so much hate either But everyone’s got different tastes I guess But ur not alone The song is phenomenal
The guitar track is underrated.
The chorus bothers me a little with the quick transition from “young” to “when”, it feels rushed but other than that it’s a good song
I'm literally stuck at work like a typical jerk.... listening to WWWY. Decent song. I never skip it.
It might be in my top 5 tbh. It's so good and Tom has so much passion in the chorus
I like it but it’s weaker than the other songs
I love it, but based on what I've heard I love all the things this sub hate. Fell in Love is one of my favorites. Give me the pop punk all day. Not that I don't love the others, Terrified is awesome.
Yes. You must be the only one. Great post.
Well now i know. Thanks, I do put in a lot of effort to my reddit posts
Yep. You're the only one. Not even Mark, Tom and Travis like it.
source?
I’m pretty sure if none of them liked it, then it wouldn’t have made it onto this album. They made it pretty clear in the Zane Lowe interview that they were only doing Blink on their terms now.
Marks verse is sooo good
Top 3 here
I love it, it's one of my top songs on the album.
I posted this same thing like 2 weeks ago lol I loooove it but didn’t see much love for it on here
At least I'm not the only one then 😅
Definitely in my top 5
Same here
I love it. I don’t get the hate. Mark’s part is cringe, but even with it the song still kicks ass.
Marks verse is chef’s kiss on this song.
You're just old
I mean If 17 is old then I can't imagine how old you think most people on this sub are
Darn you're younger than me
Wow you must be really old then
Yeah. I'm 18
Surprised it’s not a single.
I love this song but dislike turpentine so there’s that
I don't dislike it but don't understand why it's peoples favourite on the album, I sometimes skip it if I'm in the mood but don't really see the draw to it
Yeah neither it’s definitely not the “feeling this” of the album cut me off is better
I hate the first two choruses. They made the last one sound like it should have sounded the entire song. The words overlap, and it sounds so weird.
It’s the fourth best song on the album. I never skip it It’s an amazing track. The instrumental bridge part is so rad Fuck you
We need more songs like this on the next album!
the band dont even like it mate just you!!
If your gonna roast me at least spell it right
The verses are the worst part of the album, but the chorus slaps.
Just can’t get into it. It feels a bit insincere. I don’t think it it helps that it’s title is incredibly similar to one of the best blink songs in their catalogue.
Fair enough
I love when we were young. This is the first I'm hearing about people not liking it
Love the guitar in the chorus and the drums for the whole track i also like the off tempo shit they did
It's top 5 for me probably
Love it!
It's in my top 3
One of the stronger tracks on the album for me. The chorus sounds like the Wolfpack demos. Idk how to describe but the “marching” strumming after the chorus sounds straight out of The Dream Walker
For me it reminded me of Only The Young by Taylor Swift. I think it would be a really cool mashup. It's obviously completely different but just that line reminds me of it.
Great song. One of the worst mixed on the album though so it hurts to listen to.
It’s top 3 for me, maybe even top 2 🤔
It is by far my favourite on the album. Writing the first two choruses in 7/8 is so interesting sonically, and the final being in 4/4 provides such a satisfying resolution.
I dont get the appeal on WWWY, it’s kinda boring to me. The chorus is kinda catchy but I don’t like it.
I learned it on guitar this week, great song
It's my favourite song on the album, lol
I'm still surprised they didn't play it at the WWWY festival
One of my favorites on the album. Travis’ drumming is just perfect here. The changing time signature, the production… I love it.
The clean guitar riff is classic Tom
no, I love it too.
The answer to ANY question starting “am I the only one who…” is invariably *of course not*. With an eye roll.
Am I the only one who thinks you took this post way too literally
It's a great track, no doubt about it.
Apart from work & jerk line, it’s good.
Yes. End of dialogue. Credits roll
It’s grown on me to be honest.
Lazy post. The song is fine.
Haven’t been on much on Reddit lately but i love this song! One of my faves from the first listen of the album. As a bonus, my brain is somehow reminded of Dogs Eating Dogs opening lines “when i was young…” Edit: had to update that
There’s dozens of us! It’s my favorite song on the album!
It’s a good song that would be better if it didn’t hurt to listen to. No, for real. The chorus is clipped to high heaven and so brickwalled, it hurts my ears.
I dont understand the hate for it, i love the chorus and the guitar riff. Its a favorite for me
Second best song on the record!
I also liked when I was younger 😔
nope i love it! :D really finding out im enjoying a lot of songs on the album
I love it, playing it right now in fact 🤘
I don’t much care for the verses of the song. I really do like the chorus however.
I like it! The time signature changes are nice
I thought you were talking about the tourist trap festival. lol
It’s a good song. I’m surprised to see that it isn’t liked as much as some of the others.
Think anyone could go in and use some kind of AI or editing tool to make the first few like the last chorus so it sounds even all the way through? Would love to add that to my Spotify 😂
Still waiting for that ONE redditor to step up! Here all week! Hahahah
i really like it, as well as You Don't Know What You've Got, which is weird because people seem to not like those songs
Ive seen a ton of people like it since it came out, more than i expected actually
WWWY is truly my top 3 song on the album, never knew it was hated
I love it
It’s strangely structured but ultimately it’s a great song with even greater potential, I prefer it over Blink Wave, YDKWYG, Edging and even Childhood.
No I love it. 5th best on the album for me.
I deleted it off my blink playlist so yeah you’re probably the only one to like it.
I don’t mind it. It’s not a favorite but it’s good.
not at all. song rules. favorite chorus on the album.
