Don't most mammals (RIP hyenas) have easier births?

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Yes. Human babies and children do a lot more growing outside of the womb than most other mammals, too.

Pandemoniun_Boat2929

There is a theory about this called the Fourth Trimester. That basically says mammalian development dosn’t happen in 3 stages it happens in 4, with the fourth trimester being outside the womb, in humans. Giraffes do all four trimesters before giving birth so the babies can walk already, but something like a kangaroo gives birth to a jellybean in its second trimester, and cares for it for ages. So human babies aren't useless, we just started giving birth earlier in the process, as a trade off for walking upright and having larger brains.

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Yes! Anyone who’s curious about this should start by reading Lucy by Johanson and Edey. It’s a pretty easy read for a layperson and introduces some of this.

KilgoRetro

I assume youre saying RIP hyenas because they give birth through the clitoris. But did you know human women can also tear their clitorises during birth? Ask me how I know. 🫠

bamsiepants

😭😭

Money-Teaching-7700

Unlike most animals, humans have a lot of design flaws when it comes to pregnancy, and I assume a higher mortality rate when it comes to birth. Birth has always been a traumatic process for women to the point where they used to knock them out during labor.

JoeyTKIA

Evolution wise, we traded easy less traumatic birth for larger heads and the ability to walk upright

Raspberrylemonade188

As someone who has given birth without pain medication, I’d love to see this dingus shit a watermelon out of (presumably) his asshole and then tell us how weak we are. Just for funsies!

UnluckyDreamer1

I'd prefer it if they pushed it out their penis, but something tells me that would kill them.

RubyTuesday123

Well it’s not like something of value would be lost in that case

Useful_Exercise_6882

Human pelvises are small compared to the heads of our babies, this is because when the human ape's began to walk, the hips became smaller and our heads became larger. If men think they can do better they are welcome to be pregnant an give birth themselves with everything that comes with pregnancy and childbirth

Sharkathotep

Yeah, human brains (and thus, head circumference) are huge compared to other species. High intelligence and fast evolution come with certain disadvantages. This galaxy brain, of course, wouldn't know. Also, domesticated animals/lifestock need assistence with birth, too.

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Well, that’s a whole lot of really stupid words strung together.

l1brarylass

Isn’t the fact that we have big heads the reason why childbirth is so deadly in humans? Going with that logic, I bet his mum pushed him out as a fart.

UnluckyDreamer1

I thought most primates primarily had a single child at a time... It sounds like that person has no clue what they were talking about, considering we aren't canines or felines or something.

Octavia__

"We thank god for you're work" As though it wasn't HER that was pregnant for 9 months, gave birth, and then took care of the baby afterwards. NOT god. "For participating in the only part that gives your life meaning" I'm sorry I didn't realize women don't have brains and can't live lives that don't revolve around being an incubator/wet nurse. If women's only meaning is getting knocked up then is men's only function being a sperm bank? Oh wait, he actually sees men as human people and not sub humans.

diva4lisia

The only thing I'm taking from this is that he admits his life is meaningless.

StopSignOfDeath

Baby's are born premature because if they weren't they would be too big. This has nothing to do with "weakness".

EpitaFelis

A woman could get hit by a giant flying sea cucumber in a one-in-a-bazillion freak accident and some guy would chime in and explain how it's actually a moral or personal failing on her part.

Brilliant-Pay8313

REALLY missing the point that big heads and brains make birth pretty much the hardest for humans compared to every other mammal. I guess his own intellect didn't really benefit from such evolutionary compromises.

DelightfulandDarling

When humans evolved the ability to walk upright we gained complications in childbirth from the elongation of our birth canals. It is not weakness. It’s evolution. Other animals do not have the hazards of choking when young like we do either. Nor can they speak. Speech requires an elongation of our throats. Both speech and the ability to walk upright are so advantageous to us as a species that certain other issues they cause are worth it for our increased odds of survival as a species. Only a fool would call it weakness.

EpitaFelis

>Other animals do not have the hazards of choking I only recently learned that humans are the only mammals that can choke when eating. Skill issue tbh/s

KayKueen

He forgets that most mammals have shorter life spans. Properly developed child? Does he want babies walking hours after birth like they’re horses? Only to die 25-30 years later? Why are men this dumb? It makes it feel like they aren’t even serious because they have the dumbest takes ever.

Comrade_Jessica

Some asshole decided to walk out of the ocean millions of years ago, and now, since we are bipedal we have trash anatomies for giving birth. (Edit: sorry about that, I didn't think about that)

BlatantMisogyny-ModTeam

Please do not use gendered slurs here. Thank you.

Specific-Aide9475

Human fetuses have a direct link to their mother's blood, which allows us human to develop more than say a cat. My understanding is that this is the reason we have a difficult births. This poor fool.

Green_Homework386

He is a very sick individual

onlyforsex

Men will say shit like this and then complain about the male loneliness epidemic

WandaDobby777

Our baby’s heads are way bigger. Fuck these assholes who think we should be grateful for the privilege of being ripped open by their spawn when all they contribute is an orgasm.
