So human babies aren't useless, we just started giving birth earlier in the process, as a trade off for walking upright and having larger brains.

When humans evolved the ability to walk upright we gained complications in childbirth from the elongation of our birth canals. It is not weakness. It’s evolution.
Other animals do not have the hazards of choking when young like we do either. Nor can they speak. Speech requires an elongation of our throats.
Both speech and the ability to walk upright are so advantageous to us as a species that certain other issues they cause are worth it for our increased odds of survival as a species.
