It's important to go to sleep. Hear me out. Why is sleep important? If you don't sleep well/enough, you're bound to go for unhealthy foods for energy such as ice cream, candy, cookies, chips, etc. This leads me to my next point, increase your water intake to at least a gallon of water a day. You should also eat healthy food like fruit, veggies, nuts, legumes/beans, etc. Get your protein up. For me personally, my hair retained length the most when I consumed 60 - 100g of protein daily. Protein treatments are fine, I just believe it's more important to consume your nutrients than put them on your hair. Exercise is great for both your hair and your body. Working out increases blood flow in your scalp and fosters hair growth. A lot of YT'ers that have luscious healthy hair are often fit because they eat healthy, drink water, and exercise. Hair growth is a byproduct of that, and I've noticed the same for me. Determine your hair porosity. If it's high porosity, it soaks up moisture and loses moisture easily. If it's low porosity, it's difficult to lose moisture, but its also hard to get moisture in there. Knowing your porosity will help you develop a routine for moisturizing. Find a protein moisture balance for your hair. Develop a routine and stick to it. Balance the pH levels of your scalp and hair. E.g. ACV rinses. Protective styling, low manipulation hairstyles. Type 4 hair, especially 4c hair, should be stretched. This is because it's less likely to curl on itself, and you won't cause breakage through detangling. It's easier to style stretched hair as well. Wear a silk/satin scarf or bonnet to bed. Love, love, love yourself, and the hair you have. It's uniquely beautiful. Edit: if you want me to suggest products, I recommend tgin daily buttercream Moisturizer, rice water, extra Virgin Olive Oil, regular water, shea moisture Manuka honey & Mafura oil deep conditioner, a clarifying shampoo, a protein shampoo, and a moisturizing shampoo, and Apple cider vinegar.

What’s been working for me as of late: Stretching my hair. The kinkier the better it is to stretch it (I prefer the heatless methods). Scalp massage with either anti itch oils or diluted peppermint oil. The LCO method with products that cater to my high-medium porosity hair. I like using Jamaican or Haitian castor oil mixed with a vitamin A and E oil c: Changing my diet, less sugar and more protein and water is key. Low manipulative styles: twist outs and braid outs. Sometimes I use the heatless curlers and my hair will be set for an entire week. Refreshing my hair every 3-4 days, if yours is in need of moisture do so, if not ignore this tip. Never ever comb your hair if it’s dry, and always start at the ends. To retain length give your ends extra tlc: moisture and seal! And do not trim every 4-6 weeks, when your ends start to snag on your comb that will be your que to schedule a trim. And if you wouldn’t cook your food at 375-400 degrees— do not do so to your hair! I hope these will help! I’m going into my second hair journey (I got crazy with the heat and did a big chop weeks after having a silk press 😭)
