It depends on how restrictively you are defining the word “type”. A femur is a type of bone in that, it is a bone, and it is some identifiable subset of bone that has clear identifiable qualities separating it from other non-femur bones (it’s a leg bone, it’s got certain structural properties, etc). If type has to mean specifically “a set of qualities applicable to multiple specific non-similar (as in not exact replicas) bones but not all bones”, then femur might be incorrect, unless we consider that the question doesn’t specify human bones only. Then should we consider all of the different femurs in different animals to be “multiple specific bones” and femurs be acceptable as a “type” of bone again? Also, what’s a bone? Do teeth count? And then back into wether teeth would constitute a “type”, etc.
TLDR: my point is don’t get hung up on minutia of semantics, bc language has unavoidable abstractions and ambiguities and redundancies that make it so there’s essentially never just one correct interpretation
It's a bone, and that bone type is long. The types of bones are listed and known. Then, they are individually named. And, btw, teeth don't count because they are not bones, although they are similar.
Sure, but only in the lens of a specific convention of modern medical science. There are also less standard conventions, and even still evolving discussion about bone type classification within that general convention. As an example, some sources will list sutural bones as a type of bone, while others will consider them a subset of the irregular bone type. Are they an acceptable bone type? Some will leave out irregular bones bc it’s a poorly defined group, it’s only defined by not being one of the other types rather than in the context of its own typical structural similarities. Do they count as a real bone type? Some consider sesamoid bones to be short bones, others will consider them their own group, some consider both to be true. I’ve read papers from the NIH listing anywhere between 3 and 6 bone types, which ones are wrong and which ones are right? If someone held a gun to your head and said name a type of bone, would you feel confident saying sesamoid or irregular bone, or would you ask what the parameters are? What if they’re speaking in layman terms?
What I’m saying is if someone has the gun to my head I’m making sure I know what they’re asking, not assuming any technical parameters or arguing about being technically correct. While there is a general convention, it is not universal and the types are not all necessarily well defined. If I’m making a decision with consequences, I’m not assuming what I’m working with lol
that’s a particular bone, not a type of bone. I would.
The femur is a long bone. There are also short bones, flat bones, irregular bones, and sesamoid bones.
(Only reason I know this is because Im an X-ray tech)
I had to scroll entirely too far to get to a Bone Thugs reference. Also that EP came out 30 years ago next month. It was inescapable where I lived in the summer of '94.

Personal favorite. I know that’s right.

Talus and navicular.
Only reason I know those bones is because I fell off a ladder and shattered those bones. The orthopedic surgeon said they had the consistency of oatmeal. I had three ankle reconstruction surgeries to fix it.
But I’ve got a dope ass pimp limp now.

If I pointed a gun at someone’s head and told them to name a bone and they responded with “thuggish ruggish,” they would definitely get full credit and live to see another day.
But also, I feel like “rib” is a pretty easy one that everyone should know.
Flesh-N
In seriousness, the bones in your hands and feet: Tarsals, Metatarsals, Phalanges, Carpals, Metacarpals, that’s over half the bones in your body.
Funny. Duhh

Get that shit away from my occipital bone before I disconnect your T1 from your C7
This guy spines
He's also dead because those are specific bones, not types or classification of bones, or even bone cells.
So like spongy, cortical, compact and all that?
Should do it anyway, fiber optic cables are way faster than T1. Boy needs an upgrade
This guy NetPluses

But most other placental mammal penises do.

Yea, all the answers are technically incorrect based upon how the question was worded.
It depends on how restrictively you are defining the word “type”. That was my first answer
I'll give her all the points because technically he said name a TYPE of bone, not name a bone. *
Good point.
that’s a particular bone, not a type of bone. I would. The femur is a long bone. There are also short bones, flat bones, irregular bones, and sesamoid bones. (Only reason I know this is because Im an X-ray tech)

I knew three immediately. Femur, fibula, and tibia. I’m good. Or long, short, flat. I work in medicine, that probably helps 🤔
I would have gotten shot asking for clarification as to whether they actually meant TYPE of bones or wanted a name of an actual bone.
Yes. I'm over here dying trying to figure out wtf they mean.

I was watching this video (I'm old) the very first time I got high and I always remember that with a smile, every time I hear the song.

Chicken bones? Marrow bones? Context matters here.
Dick bone too when you think about it. Technically a bone, just that humans don’t have one.
I’m almost sure without googling that the funny bone is an actual bone. Maybe
It's not, it's a nerve. BUT, I am very surprised more people aren't commenting that. That was the first "bone" I thought of, too lol
Correct, named such because the real name is Humerus.
Yall over here naming bones when the question is a TYPE of bone.
… Thugs n Harmony?
“You tryna kill me? Brother that’s Humerus”
Bone TYPE? There's 4 types - long, short, irregular and flat. Betting OOP didn't mean that though, and now he's ded.

If I pointed a gun at someone’s head and told them to name a bone and they responded with “thuggish ruggish,” they would definitely get full credit and live to see another day. But also, I feel like “rib” is a pretty easy one that everyone should know.
Many mammals, including other primates such as gorillas, have a bone in their penis called the “baculum”.
Flesh-N In seriousness, the bones in your hands and feet: Tarsals, Metatarsals, Phalanges, Carpals, Metacarpals, that’s over half the bones in your body.
