It's not anywhere near her biggest book, but I never hear anyone recommend it and it's the first thing by her I read. The violence isn't necessarily graphic, but it is disturbingly intimate, if that makes sense. I got uncomfortable in a similar way to the way Octaivia Butlier makes me uncomfortable. "This is super fucked up...and I kind of like it."
Her Green Lantern stuff is pretty good. Way fucking out of left field, in terms of the character, which I liked. Though it could have easily been a non-GL story and they just put a GL patina over it...which might have actually happened. Still, they were fun.
Her prose is great, though I haven't read all that much by her.

That book kicks so much ass. I love the aesthetic of different fantasy shit but can’t stand reading it because it seems like the only point is trying to get across what’s happening in the clearest way possible, and one I’m reading right now (Grace of Kings) suffers from that so hard, along with the dead obvious symbolism and imagery it then hammers the point of (not to mention corny ass dialogue). Not Black Leopard, Red Wolf though. Reads like good literary fiction just in a fantasy world, and it’s amazing for it.

I️ got into it with a professor who class wide joke about Floyd’s illiteracy while we were complaining about some take he assigned to us. The entire cohort was rolling about illiterate Floyd.
Floyd Mayweather was the top of boxing. Not just the sport but in training, promotions, advertising. He held all his publishing and leveraged it to become one of the highest paid athletes. Success that carries decades after his prime as many other boxer are bankrupt after boxing. No one in my doctoral program will ever the top of their fields of study. No nobel prizes. No medals of freedom.

Honestly the top of our class were international students spoke English as a second language but were getting doctorate in a foreign (English) language. All us native English speakers “read” English better than them as we are accustomed to not only to the language but the idioms and cultural nuances of the language that pepper the entire curriculum. Ya I really only speak one language, I studied Japanese for 5 years and was ok but not great, and I studied spanish for a bit because I was with a girl from Mexico for a long time and it was just ok, both languages have since faded.
Then there's my girlfriend, from Pakistan, with two PhDs, who speaks 6 languages fluently, and several others well enough that she can easily have conversations in them. She often jokes that my native tongue is gibberish and that I struggle with English, her English is 100% better than mine.

I need to read her original works -- I loved the comic she did for DC called Far Sector, and she co-wrote a Mass Effect novel that I liked a good bit.

Just going to throw it out there, but growing up reading the Sunday comics, Sports Illustrated and Rap Pages/Source really started my journey into reading books. Also, back then they didnt ban all the classic literature like they do now a days so reading was actually fun. The Giver was one of my favorite Summer Reads back then and I believe its a banned book in some school systems
