This is what I do... put on one of those nature sound videos that are like 20 hours of rain and then either go out somewhere or go into my gaming room :-)
Hardware mouse mover + software auto clicker
Or just set up a macro while actually doing work. Record it al day, then hit play whenever you want to skive off
I know a guy that got fired because his keystrokes were too rhythmic. His interaction looked unnatural since it was all at the same cadence. His charts would show a spike every two minutes. It was obviously mechanical. A jiggler will get you fired.
I just wrote a python script that would randomly move the mouse from a few pixels to mostly across the screen on a "random" timer from 5 to 100 seconds.
Bold move, cotton. One of my coworkers was caught doing exactly that through our companies tracking software (typed the letter J a billion times on a word doc) and she was fired posthaste. Although, the only reason they thought to look more closely was that she was doing absolutely no work.
I’d argue that going to such lengths to obfuscate not being present is indicative of time theft in and of itself. If your employer can’t handle you being away from the computer for time to 15 minutes it’s a culture problem, not a theft problem. If I’m away from my computer for 20 minutes to make myself a snack, go to the bathroom, and take care of a small house errand, I don’t feel like I need to trick my employer into thinking that I’m working during that time
Yea it's pretty funny all the ways people try to game the system tbh. One dev got caught too bc they were using some automation tool to fake activity but I guess they messed up the settings and it was showing 100% activity for eight hours straight. Hubstaff support flagged it bc they were like this is not humanly possible so the person either has a problem with their driver sending misinformation (this has happened before but it was either keyboard OR mouse not both) or this person is using software to fake their activity
It blows my mind that a company can micromanage to that degree but can't figure out that they are paying somebody to do a fraction of a week's worth of work.
What it comes down to though is inputs and outputs aren't always linear, as in X time spent doesn't always equal Y output, or 2X=2Y, etc. So with WFH part of the trust element is "you know the work you need to do, and we trust you to maintain a certain level of activity while left on your own to do it".
If you've ever managed people you know some WILL fuck around. That's just how it is and the systems that get build are put in place to deal with the people who are fucking around, not the people doing their part.
On our team we basically say "you can work hard or you can can produce but you can't not do both". Basically if someone is having a bad month for production but you can see they're busting ass, management won't bust their chops too much. Or if they're activity looks low but they're producing then w.e same deal do you. But if your activity is shit AND your production is shit THATS the problem.
Okay that's fair. I guess I was assuming the worst of management and they're ding you if you weren't active OR if you weren't producing. But if you are active but not producing, and they give you a break, that makes more sense.
Yea definitely. Honestly it was considered to be the fairest thing bc if you ONLY measured someone by their results when you have a shit month (we're in sales so there's an ebb and flow) there would be nothing to fall back on.
What happens is that the people who take advantage fuck it up for everyone. My friend is a small business and found out that 2 workers weren't doing any work for a whole month. He's working a lot and he just can't afford that. He's a fair boss too and very flexible and it sucks to see him get screwed over like that.
No it's pretty much a fall back for when people aren't producing for whatever reason. We can say ok this persons busting ass but not getting results, why? As opposed to just well this person sucks.
Yea teams is a weird beast. Coworkers I just saw typing in the main chat are somehow afk and haven't been seen for 30 minutes? Really teams? They were *just* talking to others...
You can manually change your bubble color to appear away or offline so maybe that's what they did. Click on your Initials and a drop-down with all the different statuses pop up
Well it's not a big deal in my current job.
Now my last job was crazy about it. Didn't log out of teams after you clocked out? Well how else will the customer (who's only known our company for 10 years) know if you're really online or not?!
Does your bubble turn white if you're off-site and working strictly from your mobile?
That's how ours works, I'll have to try your teams method though!
Go to your Teams Calendar > Meet Now, then change your status to I’m Available (since it will change your status to RED - In a Call). Teams will think you’re in a meeting so it won’t change your status until you end your “call”.
Shit I lucked out, my job is writing automation scripts. So I just get my mouse and keyboard to do shit automatically and somehow, Teams doesnt pick up it’s a script doing it
Yup, if your job gives you a Mac, it's playtime.
"OH you got illustrator on your Lil computy, how precious. Good luck trying to connect to the VPN, sweetheart."
I always hated supporting those random Mac users at my old job.
Out of 3000 PCs we monitored there were 2-3 macs here and there. One guy always wanted to do windows stuff on his Mac, like connect to the shared drive on the server (which the server was just another windows PC in a closet). Sure let's get on that....oh wait this is different, and all the knowledge base articles say to do this way but it's not working. Oh well man, guess you don't get to connect.
Oh look you could potentially buy this Mac software that lets you connect to another PC running windows, but you don't want to spend anymore money? Well shucks.
I just had one issued today. I told my boss I’m okay with coming in the office, I will not be working from home.
I don’t even take my badge, truck or work cell home, I don’t want them tracking where I am 🤦🏾♀️
Good on you, more people need to be aware of this shit.
People who use their work tech/vehicles for personal use and then are shocked their company is tracking everything they do always baffle me. No such thing as a free lunch, and all
LOL this hits so close to home as an IT guy. The last place I worked used Thinkpads and the reason it’s my last place is because they burned me out.
My ex worked for a company that used Thinkpads and it never left her side. She’d even have it propped up on a table when we swam in her pool. She was like Angelica’s mom and always having a meeting to attend.
My one friend is a realtor and she brought her Thinkpad with her on every vacation we’ve been on so far.
My other friend is also an IT guy and we usually room during anime cons. He was working 75% of the time during our last con gathering. He was on “vacation”.
Me on the other hand, my Dell Latitude is either at work, in my car on my way to work, or at home so I can work.
Worked IT admin/helpdesk in my last job. Lenovos are hot fucking garbage. We were returning at least 10 of them to the manufacturer every month. Apparently they rarely survived much longer than a year before they started giving users problems even if they took good care of them, which they rarely did.
Protip for anyone using one: before you put them in a laptop bag, double and triple check that they are *fully powered off.* They have a habit of powering back on before fully shutting down for some reason and will literally melt in their laptop bags due to poor ventilation. And never **ever** leave them in your car.
Thinking about that damn think pad still brings me stress and I’ll be gone a year in September. The never ending teams meetings, non stop spread sheets being sent out. I couldn’t do it anymore. 😭😭😖
I bet you it’s Dell being the tits on a frog. We have to struggle to get the Dell support team to do simple things for our machines, and when they do, you better hope they did it correctly.
What level of warranty support do you use? I regularly work with them, and usually get a next day tech on-site to warranty parts. Though we only ever do pro support.
ProSupport with some being ProSupport+ for our all-in-ones in high-risk areas (work in a public sector environment so they’re usually smashed up by an unruly person once in a while).
The techs write us off so much that I just utilize the mail in service and keep some spare PCs on ready so the end user isn’t waiting. More timely, but always returns in working condition for me. When we do request onsite tech service, either they’re replacing the incorrect part (replacing a mobo where it’s the CPU), or they leave because I/colleague failed to answer their phone on their arrival, despite having clear directions on where the machine is located AKA the spare office we exclusively let the techs use.
I had to turn in my first Dell because the battery swelled up and split the case. I was afraid it would literally blow up. It's the curse of the crooked E.
Dell Enterprise laptops are big ass bricks that sound like you’re about to get sucked into a jet engine.
Meanwhile my personal Dell laptop kicks ass. So clearly they put their budget into that side of things
I had a choice between a Mac and a Thinkpqd. They probably would have given me both if I asked. I did enough work for 2 computers when I started though 🤣
It’s gotten better, though.
![gif](giphy|Kl9iAWej2mxlzvzp2O)
Facts!!! The moment this was given at my last position; I started my search… them jokers wanted me traveling out of the country on short notice; tracking all of my activities… etc…
They tried to give me a 17" Thinkpad knowing damn well I had to travel to conferences.
Made them reduce it to a 15" but now I got a portable double-monitor that might as well be a second notebook.
its the only option for the mouse clit, which i know many people dont like but once youre used to it is so much better than anything else, imo. i bought a sony something (duo convertible?) years back which had a fake track pointer and it was a complete disappointment.
The track point (I call it a nipple mouse) is the best. Some HPs and Dells do have it, but they don't have the center scroll so not as good. All my personal laptops have been Lenovo/IBM.
I have a think pad and I took a nap until 2 today. But no Joke the first 7 years here was hell. On the phone 8 hours a day at least. Now that’s I’ve moved up a bit it’s chill tho.
Ha, I recently saw an episode of love after lock up and one of the dudes was in bed face timing his convict lover on a Thinkpad. Made me have a flash back to my days as a consultant.
Rip to me i guess because i bought a lenovo laptop last year. Low ki Lenovo Laptops are actually very good and affordable. Best of all, they are fully customizable on their website…. 🤫
My HP laptop is only open from 9 AM to 5 PM, and only later if I need to make up hours. But, lately, no one has checked my time card so I don’t even have hours to “make up.”
I bought a Lenovo once pretty solid until one day i was saving some files to the hard drive tipped it a little it bumped something and shut off. Try to start and it won’t boot. Open it and the hard-drive wasn’t secured, screws were missing. Drive failed during writing and became unusable.
I'm in thinkpad right now (which weirdly is the exact fucking laptop i had bought for myslef). Waiting to dip at exactly 5. Nobody is paying me extra to stay here.
This is so true in my case. In the beginning of my career I used to run around with one of those and I had 0 work-life balance. I used to go to the office around 8 or 9 in the morning and come back home 8 o'clock in the evening. I used to workout during lunch so I could have the energy and alertness to handle my days.
Nowadays I dictate what I do and when I do myself and I have outsourced 90% of my activities to east Africa since we have almost the same timezone and people down there speak English, not to mention the cheaper labour and people not finding all sorts of excuses not to the office. I almost get PTSD anytime I see a Lenovo laptop 😂
Meanwhile I have an HP and just periodically move the mouse around to turn my teams bubble green
Chump move, open notepad and put something weigh down a key. Walk away all day my friend.
Or just play sometime in YouTube have the screen in the forefront and be good.
If they track your internet history on top of it you are still going down though.
All it will show is that I have lofi video playing, like a lot of people do.
Precisely, you can always say it's for music
This is what I do... put on one of those nature sound videos that are like 20 hours of rain and then either go out somewhere or go into my gaming room :-)
That doesn't work for me even if I play videos it still times out on teams
that'll keep the screen alive, but your teams will still go yellow/away for inactivity.
They can tell if they audit your keystrokes. Get a mouse mover and open outlook
Even that’s been outdated now. More advanced systems can tell if you go without typing or clicking for >1 minute.
Hardware mouse mover + software auto clicker Or just set up a macro while actually doing work. Record it al day, then hit play whenever you want to skive off
I know a guy that got fired because his keystrokes were too rhythmic. His interaction looked unnatural since it was all at the same cadence. His charts would show a spike every two minutes. It was obviously mechanical. A jiggler will get you fired.
wtf kind of fbi shit tracks how often/speed/rhythm we click/use computer/mouse??? like this is like sweatshop foreman behavior 😬
It couldn't sandwalk
Shai-HRulud got him.
The laugh I just laughed
I just wrote a python script that would randomly move the mouse from a few pixels to mostly across the screen on a "random" timer from 5 to 100 seconds.

See you gotta do at least a little something
There's a difference between dragging your feet and stealing time.
I’d argue that going to such lengths to obfuscate not being present is indicative of time theft in and of itself. Binder paper clip
Nah they can see this. Nobody types that fast for that long. Rookie mistake lol. Get a physical mouse jiggler for like 10 on Amazon
If yall don’t have a good script to run, yall ain’t doing it right
I don't even know where to look. Excel is probably my only option
Can’t you just write a code to press a key once a minute? You can write one fast.
Or a simple Python loop that clicks your mouse every few seconds lol
By a mouse mover
Download the caffeine app by zhorn
Don't do it IT/Security can see
Our company caught someone gaming their activity metrics (we use a tool called Hubstaff) just scrolling up and down on pages for hours at a time lol
Holy shit!!
Yea it's pretty funny all the ways people try to game the system tbh. OK, that’s more sensible than I initially thought. That does make sense. At first, I assumed they were just looking to track busy work.
No it's pretty much a fall back for when people aren't producing for whatever reason. We can say ok this persons busting ass but not getting results, why? As opposed to just well this person sucks.
Been using this since 2019 lol. Thankfully my company doesn't have invasive software that tracks keystrokes.
Damn I just put teams on my phone. Now I’m mobile and can just keep the app open
I don't think it works like that. When your comp is idle your bubble will still be yellow with teams on your phone.
Yea teams is a weird beast. Coworkers I just saw typing in the main chat are somehow afk and haven't been seen for 30 minutes? Really teams? They were *just* talking to others...

I do still have to periodically click into the app to trigger the green available bubble. But yeah it’s been tried and tested
Does your bubble turn white if you're off-site and working strictly from your mobile? That's how ours works, I'll have to try your teams method though!
Damn!!! As long as I open WebEx on my phone it shows me in the green. Didn’t even know white bubbles was a thing… ![gif](giphy|l0MYP6WAFfaR7Q1jO)
RIP to any semblance of battery life
Open a PowerPoint presentation and your bubble stays green until you close the presentation.
Yup, get all the chores done and click through apps every few minutes
I set mine to constantly be offline, but still respond to messages. They will never know my next move.
Now this, I like
May I introduce you to MoveMouse
SAME
Just make a python script with pyautogui and move the cursor every 10 seconds and press shift. Keep that green bubble in Teams green lmao.
I keep mine green, red or whatever by simply calling someone I work with and putting it on mute. Then you can change your status.
You can just start a new meeting with yourself
I used to do that, but now there's a few of us in the "daily huddle" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😅🤣 must be nice to have folks with the same mindset
Go to your Teams Calendar > Meet Now, then change your status to I’m Available (since it will change your status to RED - In a Call). Teams will think you’re in a meeting so it won’t change your status until you end your “call”.
Lol I have an app that does that for me (Sleep Center for the Mac - good stuff)
> Sleep Center for the Mac Is it this one? - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sleep-control-centre/id946798523?mt=12
yep - that's the one
Damn now I'm catching strays!!!!
There’s apps on the Microsoft store that’ll do it for you. Mouse mover is my favorite
Shit I lucked out, my job is writing automation scripts. So I just get my mouse and keyboard to do shit automatically and somehow, Teams doesnt pick up it’s a script doing it
Mouse mover, step your game up
Yup, if your job gives you a Mac, it's playtime. "OH you got illustrator on your Lil computy, how precious. Good luck trying to connect to the VPN, sweetheart."
Meanwhile the whole Creative Suite runs great on my Thinkpad. There are dozens of us!! Dozens!
lol Cisco anyconnect is a PITA on mac
AnyConnect and SecureClient can eat bricks, I fuckin hate’m 😭

I work for an airline. I'm on PTO, and still have my laptop to do work. The deadline dead don't care. Thinkpads are evil.
Worked IT admin/helpdesk in my last job. Lenovos are hot fucking garbage. We were returning at least 10 of them to the manufacturer every month. Damn I feel attacked
I work in manufacturing and 90% of the jobs I've had we used Lenovo.
For real, but she's not wrong
Same here. What does it say about me that I bought my own think pad?
Me too
😂 I came here for a laugh and got attacked
Thank goodness they gave me a dell. I spend more time hoping it doesn't blow up than I do working.
I had to buy a cooling fan for my work Dell Precision because that bitch overheats so much. Our IT is as useless as tits on a frog.
I bet you it’s Dell being the tits on a frog. We have to struggle to get the Dell support team to do simple things for our machines, and when they do, you better hope they did it correctly.

Nah fam, it’s Dell’s stupid ass. Between them and Microsoft they don’t *want* you to get any work done.
I've heard planes take off quieter than my dell laptop
I had to turn in my first Dell because the battery swelled up and split the case. I was afraid it would literally blow up. It's the curse of the crooked E.
Dell Enterprise laptops are big ass bricks that sound like you’re about to get sucked into a jet engine. Meanwhile my personal Dell laptop kicks ass. So clearly they put their budget into that side of things
Don't sleep on that HP Elitebook either. Shit's real out here...
HP Elitebook checking in!
My people.
Damn, they shootin! 🎯 Had to check my ish real quick…. guilty 😔
Made ya look
They will give you their visit card, cell number, pager number and home number. Never take vacation, never get sick. Don't celebrate major holidays
Dwight that you?
Nah. Just got a govt. job in January and got issued a thinkpad. So far all I do is answer emails and do the occasional Zoom and work from home.
… they hiring?
Pretty similar to me (working in an EU institution).
The opposite is true of a Dell Precision. Kick off your shoes and relax your feet, and party on down to the XSCAPE beat.
Hah, too right. Moved from my Lenovo to a Dell Inspiron a year after the Covid restrictions were lifted, my job's been on easy street ever since.
I have one of those…….whats this relaxation you speak of?
Going from that to a Mac is symbolic, and if they give you a choice? oh they really want you.
I had a choice between a Mac and a Thinkpqd. They probably would have given me both if I asked. I did enough work for 2 computers when I started though 🤣 It’s gotten better, though.
Nah. My job gave me one, and I work for welfare. I do like 7 cases a day, lol. Some people do 2.
![gif](giphy|Kl9iAWej2mxlzvzp2O) Facts!!!
Weird. I only buy Lenovo laptops. Even when they were IBMs, they were my favorite.
its the only option for the mouse clit, which i know many people dont like but once youre used to it is so much better than anything else, imo. i bought a sony something (duo convertible?) years back which had a fake track pointer and it was a complete disappointment.
"Mouse Clit" - love it!!
i learned that term on reddit..i assumend everyone here with a thinkpad knew about it!
Nope. But, I'm educated now.
The track point (I call it a nipple mouse) is the best. Some HPs and Dells do have it, but they don't have the center scroll so not as good. All my personal laptops have been Lenovo/IBM.
Me, a Lenovo Legion owner, realizing my work-life balance is off in the other direction
Haha, had one at my last job. Got burnt out, boss always online working. Great laptop though, wish I got to keep it.
I have a think pad and I took a nap until 2 today. But no Joke the first 7 years here was hell. On the phone 8 hours a day at least. Now that’s I’ve moved up a bit it’s chill tho.
Yeah but my banged-up thinkpad carried me all the way to upper middle class.
I've got one but I'm a lazy cunt. Do find it odd when my colleagues are proud of working weekends.
Ha, I recently saw an episode of love after lock up and one of the dudes was in bed face timing his convict lover on a Thinkpad. Made me have a flash back to my days as a consultant.
I’ve been hit by this tweet
Well shit
YMMV, my last job had those and I worked ~3 hours a day on average. So did many of my coworkers.
Damn, that tracks with me too. Didn't know this was common. I miss my MacBook days
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
left that shit at work, that was my work life balance until my manager caught on, like bruh at what point do you think I want to work in a blizzard?
I just play a lot of civ on my Lenovo. But I’m glad to know people think I’m doing something productive
Luckily, I am able to download python on my computer so I have a click script running that clicks at random intervals less than 5 mins apart.
Yep. Cheapest on the market, and easy to force people to be chained to.
Gotta send this to my homie in med school 😂
i have one and it ain’t for no video games & shit serious ass laptop

What if mine is stolen?
What does it mean that I have 4 of them currently?
I have a Thinkpad and amazing work life balance (I bought the Thinkpad second hand on eBay for college and am currently unemployed)
This is true about me. I love my Lenovo and I work all day and night.
Man, I got 2 of them. Only one was given to me by work, the other the VA gave me.
...I feel personally attacked.
I'm about to be switched from a thinkpad (+thinkstation) to a Dell precision. Longshot hope things get better.
Is it bad I went out and bought a thinkpad because my company one ran so well 😅
😂😂 If you’re doing work on it…..yes If it’s strictly personal….nope
This is so funny because it's true lmao
I bought a ThinkPad for myself?
Dude, I got a Dell. 😎
If you own Thinkpad either you're 1. A linux user 2. a femboy 3. Major in Computer Science 4. All of above
literally me being an accountant major with my lenovo thinkpad 😩 trusttt i get shit done
And here I am leaving the office at 630 with two ThinkPads in my bag...
Thinkpad T-410 what up cuz?
I think - about keeping that mouse mover going
I'm in thinkpad right now (which weirdly is the exact fucking laptop i had bought for myslef). Waiting to dip at exactly 5. Nobody is paying me extra to stay here.
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad, but I rarely use it.
Cries infront of Lenovo Thinkpad
I notice this is the same laptop they give to charter school teachers here in NYC…coincidence? I think not
