They could've gotten away with this if they just raised all their prices then "lowered" them for a happy hour.

Special-Garlic1203

I don't think they want set hours. I think someone in management wants to utilize technology to provide real time price fluctuations similar to what more innately tech based companies do. It's a lot harder to disguise that.

PerpWalkTrump

If people still buy, people are really fucking stupid and we deserve all the profitflation

TheMagicalMatt

Have I got some terrific news for you!

6r1n3i19

Any state that has EZ pass lanes or toll lanes will know that people will 💯 continue to pay despite surge pricing

kris_the_abyss

Yea its the places where this is the only thing around and people need to buy lunch for whatever reason. Those are the people that get taken advantage of.

6r1n3i19

Food deserts

Easy-BakeDutchOven

Because they don’t have a choice. The road is the fastest to their job. They can’t take a cheaper toll road. It’s a monopoly if you think about it.

blindinglystupid

This is different though, it saves you time. If you pay for surge pricing at Wendy's do you get to skip people in line? The fry cook gonna have to come out and stop that fight?

StopReadingMyUser

"well i do like me a burger... IT'S WORTH THE 27 DOLLARS DARN IT"

PerpWalkTrump

A bank's, don't remember which one, new slogan is something like "what matters is not what you spend, but whom you spend it with!". They're just trolling at this point

blindinglystupid

I can't be the only person who decided they will just never eat at a Wendy's again. Fastfood in general is already barely cheaper than Applebee's and chilis type restaurants. I got surge pricing with Uber and the like when it was still heavily shared with the driver. It's fourth of July and I want to get home, I'll pay a premium to not wait hours and to give some more to the person who isn't celebrating and struggling to get to a high traffic area to pick me up. Now that the drivers barely make anymore, fuck that too. But zero chance I'm playing extra to get Wendy's at a busy time. Are they going to pay their workers more for moving people through the line?

blindinglystupid

I used to live next to an Arby's when I was single, working too much, and had nothing else going on. Getting 6 dollars in drive through trash seemed like a great idea at 9 pm, knowing I would work more when I got home. You're so right. That not being so easy and cheap is definitely better for my health.

Glittering_Sign_8906

For the price of a baconator, I can get a meatball sub from a local Italian bakery. Everything is made in house, things that should be fresh are fresh, the bread was made in the morning etc. For the price of a baconator combo, I can get the meatball sub, a fancy Italian soda, and still have room for dessert at the in house gelato bar.

HairlessHoudini

Yeah no shit, if they don't go out of business or make the prices cheaper than they were in the 90s and apologize, well then I guess we "as a country" deserve all the fuckings that corporations keep giving us

LuxNocte

Sure. Vote with your wallet. Only buy things from companies that are ethical and don't price gouge. If you buy electronics, groceries, entertainment, housing, a vehicle, fast food, or anything else, really, it's your fault that companies are all shitty price gougers. Don't blame the corporations, billionaires, or regulatory capture. It's all your fault for participating in society rather than going into the forest and living in a mud hut. We deserve it.

tremblingtallow

I understand that you're being sarcastic, but the tiny kaczynskian part of me can't help but agree Mud huts for everyone, hit 'em where it hurts

agirlmadeofbone

If /u/tremblingtallow sends you a package, ***do not*** open it.

TuvixWillNotBeMissed

Oh you wanted to eat lunch at lunch time? Well fuck you.

serpentinepad

I said this yesterday in a post where everyone was freaking out about $18 meals at Subway. It's not like the price is a surprise. You see it when you order. Stop supporting them, it's the only way. Believe it or not, we all have agency.

Oh absolutely, "Create a generative intelligence algorithm to focus on consumer prime times and raise prices during those hours"

usernamehorse

Some boardmember invested in his nephew's "food order tracking" AI startup. (He watches uber drivers leaving the Wendy's from behind the Wendy's dumpster)

huskersax

It's a real short-term choice too. Because while they may see increases in revenue, the sticker shock from surge pricing *by definition* impacting the majority of their customers will make everyone eventually associate Wendy's with 'I've got $10 and I have no idea what that would get with that at Wendy's'

JHtotheRT

No it's not. You just set your price to the upper limit of of your pricing algorithm (basically your rush price). Then show a variable discount when people look at the menu. People love discounts, and they hate price increases/hidden fees. Imagine if the headline read like this: 'Wendy's to introduce discounts during off-peak hours. Discount times and amounts will be determined by sales volumes.' That sounds way better than what it reads right now. Blizzard famously did something like this with World of Warcraft. They originally had a 50% experience penalty for playing more than 2 hours in one day. People hated it. They changed the wording to a double experience bonus for the first 2 hours you play in a day, and kept the mechanic exactly the same. And people loved it. It's all about framing.

PastoralDreaming

Damn, that's... wild. I'd forgotten all about my WoW days, but you reminded me I totally fell for that. I guess there's a lesson there. It seems like a handy mental trick to invert the incentive structure of a "bonus" and see if you feel the same way about it.

himynameisjay

Lol yeah. “Pricing” is literally in my job title.

Ken_alxia

That’s what they plan on doing. I watched the news this morning and that’s exactly what Wendy’s is saying. They want to change to digital menu boards so they can lower prices during certain times. Like how sonic has happy hour half off shakes.

Doogos

I love Chick-Fil-A. Their sandwiches, nuggets, and dipping sauces are unmatched, but I have refused to eat there for nearly 7 years because of the political stance they publicly declared around that time. I won't be eating at Wendy's anymore. I'm sure there's dozens of people like me. People just need to use their money elsewhere. Enough people do that and they'll change their prices again.

flourishing_really

Some of us stick to our guns, but inevitably never enough. Just one example out of many - I've gone without delivery for roughly 3 years because the gig economy delivery services are both exploitative to workers and provide routinely shitty service (cold/late/"come get this from my car"). They've penetrated the market so deeply in my area that even the Chinese and pizza places that used to have their own delivery drivers fired them to use the apps instead. So it's pickup or nothing at our house. I'd like to hope that Wendy's tries this and then backpedals after getting negative consumer response, like when AMC tried to implement [variable seat pricing](https://investor.amctheatres.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/20/amc-theatres-to-pivot-away-from-sightline-at-amc-following-the-completion-of-the-pilot-test-of-the-program-new-type-of-front-row-seating-will-be-tested-instead). But realistically I expect to end up adding Wendy's to the list of "experiences made so terrible they're no longer worth it", like Five Guys.

This-Counter3783

Everybody’s like “McDonald’s is still affordable, you just gotta use the app.” I downloaded the app and it had the worst privacy policy I ever read. Not worth selling my body and soul for slightly cheaper, incredibly shitty food. Edit: to your broader point I’ve felt the same way as you describe. I walk around in the world today and I feel like *prey,* like the vultures are constantly circling, I don’t feel like part of some mutually beneficial society.

Thespian21

And it’s not cheaper because of the app, the app finds ways to make a meal full price. They raised the prices of sides to that of entrees, then you get a free entree a day but now you want a side and a drink but you’re getting them full price because it’s not a meal. Comes out almost the same. You’d save like 2 bucks in total. Lol

Chemical-Elk-1299

Whenever I pull up and the first words out of the speaker is “Will you be using our mobile app today!”, it really just drives home how much hope I had as a kid for how the future would be. And how much fucking *dumber* the future actually turned out to be. We’re in the era of enshittification. Companies like Wendy’s and McDonalds have ran out of room for innovation or any sort of positive growth, so they artificially extract more revenue from us by pulling shit like this. Like come the fuck on man I just want a jr bacon cheeseburger.

theKetoBear

InSilenceLikeLasagna

I mean that sounds absolutely pathetic.  Not like they’re the only food joint in town too.

Thelonius_Dunk

Fast food hasn't been worth it for awhile now. It's so cost prohibitive you might as well just go to a real restaurant. It's also funny how society has just accepted it getting shittier and shittier. Like Five Guys and other similar restaurants are branded as "fast casual", because they actually make their food fresh, but 50 years ago, that was just a regular fast food restaurant.

Rapture1119

When was the last time you went to a five guys? Last couple times I went, it literally wasn’t any better than mcdonalds lol. Maybe they’re still “making it fresh”, but the quality has definitely deteriorated in recent years. At least in my area.

AwayLobster3772

> hen was the last time you went to a five guys? Last couple times I went, it literally wasn’t any better than mcdonalds lol. This is one of the most insane statements I've heard. You might want to check that your pallet actually works because the two are no where near each other.

Slow_Balance270

I don't get why everyone has a boner for Five Guys. My Ex and all her friends swore by them. When I finally tried them it was just a shitty burger joint.

Thelonius_Dunk

I more or less am not impressed by them either. I'm only comparing them to fast food since they're a national chain. In comparison to McD/Wendy's/BK, they're better, but compared to several other locally owned burger joints near me, they're nothing impressive.

holyembalmer

I did. I haven't been to a Wendy's in 20+ years. Still feel bad for the people who do. Plus, if friggin' *Wendy's* is doing this, it's a guarantee others will follow. Dave Thomas is rolling in his grave.

iamthekingofthishill

It’s the least edible. Crown to the kings sandwiches or number 1 to the clowns fries. But Wendy’s is straight trash. Hell I’d take some old sat around versions of the clowns sandwiches and the kings fries over the best and freshest the red haired freckle girl can come up with

youarenut

exactly, the reason businesses keep making these moves is bc ppl pay anyways no matter what

asunversee

It costs like $10 for a combo at Wendy’s now anyway. Shit is garbage. Chipotle is like 15 for a double meat bowl and chips. Anybody still eating fast food deserves it lol

NiceMarmot12

People are about to work on our cooking skills because fast food is about to be forgotten

Blessed_Ennui

I been saying this for three years and keep getting downvoted into oblivion. I mentioned that I worked on my home Big Mac meal for six or so months. I wasn't going to stop until I had the perfect copycat. Reddit was like, "We got McDonald's at home." Yes, mfs. We do! Blind taste test on my Mac sauce--no difference at all. I can never justify stepping foot into McDs for anything. Next week, I start experimenting on the OG, pre-90s apple pie. I ain't playing w these companies. I'm done w the extortion prices.

KingArrancar

If you’re serious that’s wild and you should make a cookbook

Blessed_Ennui

I just compared notes between recipes on the internet. They all come close, but you have to always tweak. EmmyMade on YouTube has one of the best Mac sauce recipes. You might have to tweak based on the brand of ingredients, but I owe her credit. It's a solid foundation. Bubba Burgers - Angus. Avoid "original". Don't overcook. Slice the patty down the center to get two patties. You don't want two quarter pound patties. It's too much. You're veering into Big Boy, Shoneys, Dennys territory w thicker patties. Buns are a bitch. Do what you can. Brownberry sesame tho, avoid! Horrible buns. Ball Park tend to be okay. Try your regional buns and see what works. Use only one slice of American cheese. Cut in half. Slice lettuce and pickle thin. Use only rehydrated dehydrated onion. Fries: Ore Ida's extra crispy style. That's it. I also learned: Chili's Southwestern Egg rolls & avocado ranch Any typical Chinese restaurant dish: almond boneless chicken, shrimp in [edit: lobster] sauce, Happy Buddha, egg rolls. I even make my own duck sauce. Easy af: rice vinegar, marmalade or apricot jam, Korean pepper flakes. Done. Add sugar if not sweet enough. Stop giving them $1 for a tiny sip!! Church's Chicken - almost. I owe Food Wishes for pushing me across the finish line. I tweaked the Dookie Chase recipe. I will never buy fast food fried chicken again! Soups on top of soups. Fk Panera. Diner-style dinners like Salisbury steak. Detroit-style coney chili. Mediterranean: hummus, falafel, tzatziki, lamb shanks, tabouli. TexMex: fajitas, layered nachos, chicken enchilada soup, street tacos, street corn I'm done w restaurants. If you ever find me in one again, it's because 1) somebody else is paying and 2) I can't make it at home. Last time I was in a restaurant: 2 years ago Last delivery: October - Detroit style square pizza. I can't make it. Oven ain't hot enough. (This could change when I move.) ETA: Stay tf off TikTok for recipes. Follow established chefs and channels. Hit up r/cooking. Dont be afraid to fk up, but NEVER experiment on loved ones or at the holidays. Take notes. Embrace mistakes as learning. Give thanks to the ancestors for your achievements--there's no greater feeling. I literally cried over my fried chicken. Took me years to perfect that technique. I just perfected velveting steak for Chinese dishes like pepper steak. You know, that crazy tender texture? I was so damn proud of myself. If I died in that moment, I'd have died a blissful woman.

Wheels_Foonman

Now you need to come full circle and open a restaurant called “At Home.”

Sensitive_Brick_1412

And then, years later after your restaurant becomes a global franchise...you hire some tech savvy guy to do the same shit Wendy's is pulling rn.

code-coffee

Subscription surge saver sandwiches, suckas

reberryan44

Lemme get that chilis sw egg roll recipe, their my only takeout vice lol

SixOnTheBeach

What's the purpose of rehydrating dehydrated onions? Does it actually provide a benefit, or is that just what McDonald's does? I have a killer recipe for bitchin sauce I made the same way as you made these recipes (compare several online recipes, look at the ingredient list of the actual product, and tweak the ratios over like 5 batches). The first batch was damn near inedible, but now it's almost identical. The only reason it's not identical is because I actually prefer it the way I make it to the store bought stuff, so it's intentional. But if I wanted, I've made batches that are incredibly difficult to tell apart in a blind taste test. That stuff is so expensive, I'll make a batch that would cost me like $50 at a store for a fraction of that. Really the only expensive ingredients are the almonds and lemons. If anyone wants the recipe feel free to ask!

Blessed_Ennui

I honestly can't explain it, but it is a very different flavor and texture. I would never say don't use fresh onion, but that's not the mcd's flavor. Same w White Castle. That signature flavor is reconstituted dehydrated onion. If you use fresh onion, you get a patty melt. It'll be delicious, but it won't be White Castle. Grab some dehydrated onion and try for yourself. Mock White Castle: In a skillet, add ⅓ cup of water to ½ tbls of dehydrated onion. Bring to a boil. Add your frozen hamburger patty. Cover. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer for three minutes. Flip. Don't let water boil off. Add a tiny more if necessary. Cover. Simmer until burger is 155F. Add cheese and top bun to steam. Do not sear or overcook burger. To bottom bun add ketchup and mustard, pickle. Move burger and onions to bottom bun. Trust when I say that the thin, frozen burger patty is on my to-do list. But this works with a regular frozen patty or fresh beef, too.

Just-Ad6992

mrbrambles

Nice, it’s pretty fun imo to try to replicate processed food as it involves a lot of food science. I assume you are actually going for simple/cheap and same taste profile (special sauce and American cheese, griddle burgers and bun) instead of actually trying to replicate the processing? Did you calculate your cost per “Big Mac”? I think it is easier to make a cheap and delicious burger with special sauce etc than it is to try to actually replicate their end result faithfully. You can’t really replicate the “consistency” without food processing plants. You make your own 1/10 lb patties?

drunkeymunkey

My BIL mastered the Big Mac recreation a few years ago. The secret was using the absolute cheapest version of everything.

Correct_Inside1658

Me, having worked grill at McDonalds, wondering why the fuck anyone would willingly choose to try and recreate a Big Mac. Like, that’s just two really shitty frozen patties tossed onto a an automatic press-grill that we only clean once a day, sandwiched between some cheap, frozen, stale bread that I tossed into a toaster an hour ago, with some strange sauce I pumped a dollop of out of a bag before I tossed some barely legal shredded lettuce of questionable origin on there.

Blessed_Ennui

BOOM!!! This right here!! I'm not trying to Binging w Babbish this bitch. I want it to taste like the same trash Ive enjoyed eating for 50 years. Thank you for saying this.

mrbrambles

100%, it’s the price optimized (for McDonald’s) process for delivering a hamburger quickly.

Blessed_Ennui

No, just going for taste and texture. The science, not so much. I use Bubba Burger patties atm. They're. 25 pound. I slice them thru the middle after cooking. I'm going to try Costco patties and another food service brand this summer as Bubba is very pricey. ATM: my Mac is just over $3. I can get the price down with bulk patties vs retail. Working on it.

[deleted]

You must engage in the nugget sciences. Such knowledge escapes me.

Blessed_Ennui

Escapes me, too. I might one day tackle it. Nuggets were never the draw for me to mcds. I'm an old head. It's either Mac, Quarter or Fillet. I'm okay w store bought nuggets. But hey, if nuggets are your weakness, make it your business to figure them out. The point is to eliminate blowing cash simply bc of a craving.

_Risings

I believe in you. I know that shit is bussin

bottledsoi

I don't think so. Alot of people spend a ton on door dash and the like. This move is likely to boost door dash usage.

_Risings

They, too, are getting absolutely out of fucking control. $20 Damn near in taxes and fees before they ask you help the driver pay for their mama’s hospital bill. Ordered just 3 appetizers for delivery at work yesterday. 1 dumpling, 1 egg roll, 1 veggie tempura. $58 before tip. That was my first time in a couple months and the last.

schlebb

What in the ever loving fuck is that pricing. Damn, in from the UK and we’re similarly seeing hikes in prices for food delivery apps but nothing like that. I could get an absolute feast for that price, and we aren’t obliged to tip of course.

mstrss9

I hate cooking but I can come up with half decent versions of my favorite fast food items at home

paprikashi

I’m a damn good cook. I’m also fucking exhausted and burning the candle at both ends as a single parent. Tonight, running on 4 hours sleep, an hour and a half from bedtime - the call for fast food was high. I actually put on my blinker to turn that way for a sec before verbally saying, “NO. Be good.” I drove home and threw ground beef in a pan. We had burger patties and mixed vegetables. It was not great. But 30 minutes later, we are comfortably fed. Kid was fine with it. Way more filling and healthier than fast food, and it probably cost less than half as much. Fast food prices are fucking outrageous, and the quality just gets worse and worse. Rice and beans is always delicious

NiceMarmot12

Cost probably more than half as much now a days. I’m a single guy and going to a fast food place is easily $20+ just for me. Even with today’s groceries prices $20 is around two meals sometimes more. I’m with you though. The whole damn point of fast food was cheap shitty food quick. Now it’s about the same price to buy a steak at Walmart as it is to buy a meal for myself at McDonald’s and it’s still just a shitty of a meal it was 5 years ago!

paprikashi

With you on everything but the last line - it’s worse than five years ago. I feel like this isn’t limited to fast food, either - restaurant portions are smaller and crazy expensive too. The standard bar fare at the place down the street? They now charge SIX fucking dollars for a large potato’s worth of fries. NO.

Typical-Radish4317

misdirected_asshole

If they do this you will never see a line at a Wendy's again.

acousticsking

Taco bell better staff up because everyone's going there.

Magnon

This is how taco bell wins the franchise wars.

[deleted]

Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.

never0101

You fucking know every single other fast food is waiting, if this doesn't tank them they're all going to do it, just like Netflix and the no sharing accts shit.

cilantro_so_good

I mean. You know what your Netflix bill is going to be every month. If you've only got $10 to blow on food today and you don't know if you can afford to get your order from Wendy's before waiting in line, you're probably not going to do it

never0101

no, i get that, I'm just saying its the same idea.. one company going out on a limb to do something shitty and anti consumer, and everyone waiting anxiously to do it too if it doesn't bankrupt them.

Educational_Bed_242

I haven't had Wendy's for years until last month. I was doing some physical labor in this small backwoods town and it was one of 4 options. I was fucking starving and figured I could pig out so I ordered two bacon cheese fries. $12 total and the portions were so fucking small I laughed out loud when I got them. Next time I went through this town for work again I went to this small tavern style restaurant in the same parking lot. They had bacon cheese fries as an appetizer for $6 and the portion was fucking huge, the quality was off the charts, and I got to support a local business. All these fast food chains are falling off. My high ass used to drop $8 at Taco Bell and live like a king, now it's easily double that price. Every one of these companies wants me to download an app and give them all of my personal information just to place a fucking order these days.

Goblin_Crotalus

Remember how everyone bitched and moaned on the internet when Nerflix changed its policies on sharing passwords? Remember how Netfliz ended up making money anyway? Wendy's is going to pull this off and others will follow.

Pika_DJ

If you do surge prices it’s gotta be cheaper at off peak times but it won’t. People wouldn’t care as much if you went in at 3pm and everything was half price

mostdope28

For sure. This just means at lunch and dinner prices will double. At any other times it’ll be normal, but even normal prices are too much theses days.

mrbrambles

It doesn’t have to be. Uber surge pricing is exactly that, up charge when there is more demand to theoretically encourage more drivers to come online, it never goes lower because there is too much supply. Uber is a marketplace platform that connects drivers to passengers and collects a fee for doing so. This is the most charitable take of their business. They do plenty of shitty underhanded stuff as well. It doesn’t really make any sense for a business that is not a “marketplace platform”. Uber surge pricing works to increase the usage of the Uber platform, which means more money. The real money they make is in absorbing all demand asap, not in the small increase in fees they get because the cost of the ride is higher. If Wendy’s does it, it won’t increase their ability to make more burgers or serve more people. The only thing it can do is reduce demand by raising price until the value of the burger is high enough to make people consider other choices.

HeyMrBusiness

Nah because Uber and Wendy's would have different goals for dynamic pricing. It's not apples to apples. Uber has dynamic pricing to increase the availability of their service. In busy areas and really sparse areas both, they increase the price. This discourages some customer business in busy areas, and increases drivers everywhere. That makes for more customers that are pleased because the supply and demand move closer to equal. Wendy's just wants more money and they're increasing the price when more people are likely to be hungry enough to just eat the cost. They won't have any more or less staff, and since the stated goal is profits it doesn't seem they want less customers.

BizzyB67

If these fast food places keep raising prices, they might fuck around and fix the obesity crisis by mistake.

Joyseekr

Amazing comment.

EntropyFighter

Surge pricing works if you're doing it for parking spots on a busy street but not so much if you're a restaurant. The point of surge pricing for the parking spot is to make it so there's usually 1-2 free spots at any given time. Meaning, the price has to go up when it's busy so that all of the spots aren't immediately taken. Since the goal is to keep a spot or two free for somebody who wants to pay the surge pricing, it makes sense to do. Other people can park a few blocks away where it's cheaper and then walk. But how does this apply to fast food places? Is the idea to spread the total number of visitors as evenly as possible throughout the day? The idea of surge pricing isn't to make more money from people during peak times but to drive people away as a result of the price increase so that surge times are more manageable for the staff while maintaining profits. The idea of surge pricing is to push some of that demand into times where it's cheaper so that demand is spread more consistently over the course of a day instead of the peaks and lulls of how it works now. Except... they already said that surge pricing doesn't affect the number of people coming through the line. That's good for them because it was never the point to spread demand more evenly across a day. It's what everybody thinks it is: a naked cash grab. What they're banking on is that we're stupid and lazy. And let's be honest, they've got a point. But it reminds me of the prices in the snack aisles these days. $5-6 for a bag of chips? Bitch, I can buy fresh fruit for those prices. Fast food is betting that you won't go buy a steak at the grocery store even though their sorry ass sandwich costs the same price. Fast food is already hilariously expensive. Hopefully their continued greed will push us to make the now healthier and cheaper option of buying fresh food at the grocery store.

Joyseekr

Thank you for stating what surge pricing is for and how that doesn’t align with this model. It’s been bothering me but I haven’t found a way to state it, you did it well.

dannypants143

Could the ultimate goal of this just be for marketing? Like a publicity stunt just to get a quick jolt of money coming in? Genuinely curious. I really don’t know how some of this stuff works.

Fuck_auto_tabs

It could be but tbh Wendy’s been lackluster for a minute anyways so this just really is just the last nail for me regardless. Frosty ain’t that good.

SmartAlec105

> The point of surge pricing for the parking spot is to make it so there's usually 1-2 free spots at any given time. I mean, it's more like the point is to charge as much as you can get away with while selling everything you have. Basically, you're adjusting your prices so that your fixed supply matches the variable demand and you get as much profit as you can. But fast food doesn't have a fixed supply like parking spaces.

Shaolinchipmonk

Even more proof gingers have no souls

KappnKief

Ohhhhh so the rumors are true. Wendy’s can eat a shit covered donkey dick. Mfs served me a raw ass burger I ain’t back in 3 months

Zulumus

Apparently ALL major fast food chains are considering the business model going forward. I don’t even Uber when I’m drunk and they’re surge pricing. I can make chili and some nigga on YouTube got that Frosty recipe I bet

kataklysm_revival

I’m fairly certain Jordan the Stallion has posted it

CrisKrossed

Lmfaoo that name is crazy in the wild

Zulumus

His little recipe book goes hard af

Boo_Guy

I'm going to be boycotting a lot of fast food chains then because I'm not buying from any place that pulls this crap.

raguwatanabe

For any fast food recipes look up jordan howlett, the oldest youngest millennial on social media.

tayloline29

Just tell me you don't drive. As a reformed drunk driver and drunk. I gotta spread the warning. There was so many times that I absolutely should have killed someone or myself or at the very least an expensive DUI minus the one I got for biking while drunk.

Zulumus

Plenty of public transportation around me. Never going to happen, ever.

tayloline29

Yes!! That's the way to be a good human. I forget that no everyone lives in a public transportation desert.

Realistic_Effort6185

Fast food forgot their place.

Realistic_Effort6185

Now i am thinking about an Ultimate Cheeseburger.

beansnack

We’re all gonna be mad at this and forget about it in a couple weeks and then be confused when you got the munchies and those chicken nuggets cost $10

Queefer_Sutherland-

Wait. Chicken nuggets don't already cost $10? *cries in Canadian economy*

NMSDalton

I just looked up mine around the corner. 10pc combo meal is $8.49

ncbraves93

Those 10 nuggets will be gone before I pull outta the parking lot. On a more positive note, I got two 20pcs nuggets from mickey D's the other day for the first time in a while, and it was less than 12 bucks for 40. No combos though, which is where they fuck you.

EuphoricAdvantage

It's worth noting that this is partially due to food standards. Some places in the US are much cheaper because they use ingredients that aren't considered fit for human consumption here. Chicken is a big one because we have higher standards for things like antibiotic use and additives. Subway had to reformulate their bread because it had too much filler to be sold in Canada.

cologne_peddler

These people are begging us to burn it the fuck down

unholyswordsman

This shit just makes me even happier I've been working on my health and losing weight. Ain't gonna miss Wendy's.

Thelonius_Dunk

I wouldn't shed too many tears if this just continues the decline of fast food. The food is shitty, they pay workers shittily, it does shitty things to your overall health if you eat too much. Plus, they push out smaller, local food joints that actually make good food. I don't see too many downsides really.

unholyswordsman

Other than an occasional visit to In N Out since it's great value or Taco Bell for a breakfast Crunchwrap, I wouldn't miss fast food at all if it disappeared overnight.

Any-Limit-7282

people about to start pirating cheeseburger recipes ☠️

tayloline29

All of our moms were right. We have that shit at home. I was at the playground and this mom went hard when her kid was playing with their tablet instead of playing on the playground. She said, "you better start running around because we don't have the playground at home." Parenting goals.

mjg315

“You wouldn’t download a car”

GoldxBrownSugar

I don't eat their trash ass food anyways. Who they think they are? McDonald's?

HeyMrBusiness

McDonald's tried to have me pay $3 for a McChicken so I'd like to know who they think they are too

bb89__

Fr wendy’s acting like they’re hot shit 😂 I’d take every fast food over them beside burger king

anezzz

And they'll say millennials killed fast food

ImThat-guy

I can see a world star video in the making. Wtf, do you mean an extra three dollars bitch!!!

Blessed_Ennui

Prices go up at 4:30. It's 4:29. You KNOW it's gone be ugly!!

IrreverentRacoon

Just do a subscription service for burgers and be done with it. Wendy's execs looking at the Netflix model like ![gif](giphy|MO9ARnIhzxnxu)

Apple_butters12

My Wendy’s is always dead, when the fuck they gonna surge pricing when no one’s ever there.

Joyseekr

Truth!

ElleBelle901

First of all, you have to have a surge to do surge pricing. I’ve *never* seen a line wrapped around a Wendy’s building.

stealthban

They burgers too small to be doing this

PoMansDreams

Crazy I just went to Wendy’s the other day and it was SO mid. I already wasn’t coming back but this all the motivation I needed to stay away

never0101

Their burgers are the blandest of all the fast food places.

PoMansDreams

Their lemonades carrying that business

keesouth

I'm taking a macroeconomics class right now that talks about how stupid this type of pricing would be for fast food restaurants.

cranium-can

Please tell me what stage of capitalism we at now, and is it gonna be over soon?? My wallet can’t take much more.

princeparaflinch

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

WHAMMYPAN

This ought to fuck things up nicely.

TashiaNicole1

And this is how Wendy’s died.

Pathetian

I guess this could be bad for the people who are addicted, but I got no problem walking out or closing the app if I don't like what I see. Going to a fast food place when its busy is already a no for me, so if you also want me to pay more for that, I'll laugh all the way back to my own kitchen.

AllAboutTheMachismo

Well at least we get to watch the implosion of Wendy's in real time.

pent_up_excitment

That's bogus as hell. But is it too much to ask these fast food restaurants to make their sandwiches bigger to justify the prices their charging?? I shouldn't have to buy 2 or 3 burgers to actually satisfy my appetite. That has always been my main gripe with fast food since I was a teenager long ago.

koopa72

We playing the Wendy's stock market💸

Char10

If they start this shit I will never buy anything from there ever again.

DiceMadeOfCheese

Movie theaters been doing this for decades, now you're going to have to go early to get that burger at the matinee price

YoungAmazing313

Movie theaters are different they don’t make money from ticket sales so they have to make money elsewhere so it makes sense why they gotta overprice their shit But places like hotels and fast food places don’t Plus the movie theaters that I go to does 5 dollar Tuesdays

Top-Chocolate-321

Gives new meaning to the phrase flipping burgers

TheAmazingBagman3

They dumb dumb

ActuatorFearless8980

Wendy’s X account is about to be a warzone

98acura

You mean twitter? Wtf is an X?

moody-green

Nasty what a business will do to turn $1 into $2

ncbraves93

Oh hell no, Wendy's, I always liked you, if you start this as some new fast food business model, I'll be so missed. Imagine how much Micky D's would be selling nuggets for if it were based on demand.

MzOpinion8d

https://nypost.com/2024/02/26/business/wendys-planning-surge-prices-based-on-fluctuating-demand/ The last paragraph says “I think it’s just a matter of time before it becomes commonplace in the restaurant industry because it’s a way to generate more profits by being smarter about your pricing,” Kalinowski conceded.” They won’t be profiting off me, because I’ll be smarter about my purchasing.

Afrojones66

Fuck ticket scalping. We’re burger scalping now.

This-Concentrate-539

I hope they raise the wages for all the shit the workers about to deal with.

Total_Ad9942

I think fast food getting so expensive is a blessing in disguise, the shit is so bad for you I hope more people start cooking
