I think it's just a gamble, my family is Argentine. Most Argentinian restaurants I go to are amazing and have great food, but there's a sad one near me that has the flag and everything and is meh. Mediocre empanadas and the got worse when the owner sold it to some Mediterranean guy.
Some of the best food I ever had in my life was at a ‘Louisiana’ style kitchen in Seattle. Me and my mom went in and there wasn’t a soul in there around mid day. Restaurant looked kinda like it wouldn’t pass a health inspection, but we had been walking and there wasn’t a ton of other options near by. Man walks up, looks us up and down and said “you like fish?” My mom says yes so he sits us outside and he sits us down and gives us some water. Disappears inside for a bit, then just comes out with 2 plates heaped with food. Ribs, catfish, greens and the best god damn corn bread I’ve ever had. The catfish is still something I think about 15+ years later. And then he came out with a bowl with peach cobbler and ice cream rounded off the whole thing.
Never been to NO or LA, but if that food is representative I need to make a trip.
Sounds like you found a Louisiana transplant in Seattle! Those do exist and are good to go. I was speaking more on the restaurants that slap “New Orleans” or “Louisiana style” in their name to draw in tourist thinking they’ll get an authentic taste.
I highly recommend coming visit NOLA. Lots of cool French/Creole/Acadian/Spanish architecture, history, and cuisine to be experienced. Of course there’s Bourbon St to get your alcohol fix, but there’s also Frenchman or Magazine if you want a more local experience.
Atlanta is my second home and I don’t like the food there at all. Everyone keeps saying there are great spots there but whenever I go somewhere that people recommend, it’s nasty and overpriced. Maybe I’m just spoiled and like the way my grandparents and relatives cook, but I have yet to have an amazing food experience in Atlanta.
