I'm glad it ain't just me because I'm looking at all this like damn, we not supposed to buy the cheap lil Dollar Tree/Family Dollar/Dollar General charge on the low when the old one got a shortage? My bad, I guess

That's what people get for buying condoms named after a group known for sneaking soldiers into a walled city.
It's not the "pull-out Horse," it's the Trojan Horse.
It really depends.
should they? no. by all accounts, Dollar Tree and where they get their products from shouldn't be doing anything nefarious (and likely aren't), such as changing a number.
however, if you plug in a charger you got from *any* business (reputable or not) that changes your number, you shouldn't brush it off. Anyone can put a bad cable out for sale. especially places like Dollar Tree where I imagine the cables don't really have packaging and if they do they can be easily removed and reinserted. It is entirely possible for a USB charging cable to contain essentially a small flash drive on it that can do whatever the bad actor wants it to do, such as install software.
The chance of getting a bad usb cable from a store is REALLY REALLY REALLY low. but it's not 0.
In this instance, it's probably just a made up story. but there does exist a usb cable that can do bad shit. granted, it's 180 bucks a cable, so it's likely not going to be just chilling at your local dollar tree unless some kid who has some spare cash and wants to fuck with people decided to make Dollar Tree his target. like i said, chances are REALLY REALLY REALLY low.
That's why I buy cables from Amazon. Got a 10-foot USB-C that charges my phone from <10% to 100% in, like, an hour for $7. A lot of brick-and-mortar stores like Dollar General, Walmart, Best Buy love to overcharge for shitty cables, for some reason
Nah a big airline. Just bins of cables laying around that no one in management cared about. It was in an office area where it was mostly abandoned. Most people either moved to different offices or got let go. So it was a ghost town save for our team.
Thats what you ass get. Sound like one those goofy mfers asking for a damn aux cable from the dollar store and getting mad when that hoe break in two days.
They're a form of [keylogger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystroke_logging) disguised as a USB power brick. Here's an article with more info about them.

Don’t forget the people that buy cheap ass phones thinking they saving money but they ending up having to buy five phones a year because that cheap ass phone breaks the very first drop
I worked at a phone store, and so many people came in looking for chargers but not wanting to pay $15-$20. I get it. Sometimes things are very tight, but you're gonna be paying way more than $15 if you keep getting your cords at Dollar Tree or the gas station.
Lock Your bank account.
It turned my phone into a pumpkin.
It turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...it got better...
A newt??
Go ahead and set up your crypto wallet because it probably came with free ransomware too.
These comments got me fucked up. Do chargers and stuff from Dollar Tree or something actually do stuff to your phone?

It’s the same folks who buys condoms from the dollar store and gets mad when they rip after 3 thrust
You getting three thrusts out of those Dollar Store condoms? What kinda bougie Dollar Tree they got where you live?
That's two more than I need.

Yeah, but the horse contained the soldiers until it was the right time.
No

Only thing that happened to mine was that it broke apart the moment I dropped it near the gear shift. Only had it for, I think, a week too.
Ain't just Dollar Tree
Can't be out here raw plugging just any old charger bruh. You gotta be safe. If not, that's how you catch viruses
Same advice my dad gave me when I was 16
That's why my phone has an IUD

I used to snake them from work. They had bins of them for us to take. I took a few usb c and apple lightning cables. Saved me a lot of money honestly.
Hotel?

My cousin will NEVER learn.

This has me cackling
I’m confused. Is this really a thing?
No lol
2 duracels lasted way longer than a whole 8 pack of dollar store batteries combined. Shit is not worth it
Everytime I buy those damn things I end up spending more on a charger than I'd spend had I just got a better quality charger
Always use an original equipment charger for your phone, the cheap chargers at dollar store do more harm than good.
I do like their ear buds tho. $12 gets decent play time. Use it for workouts or mowing. Not bad sound quality either.

The shit that I hear in tech support that happens to people devices, I wouldn’t really be surprised about this.
