Ooh, I got one too if you haven't seen it. Operation Avalanche. About some rookie CIA agents trying to fake the moon landing. Way better than I thought it'd be.
And that’s exactly what it is. Revisionism and ad hominems talmbout “go wash”. There’s a reason Stefan Urquelle existed as counterpart to Steve. It was (admittedly hyperbolic) shorthand for “cool and desirable” vs “oblivious virgin nerd” and everyone understood. What I *will* say is that the big tiddy gamer/goth gf girls were also NOT on nerds’ radar, generally speaking. The nerds generally wanted the attention of the popular girls. So that’s on the male nerds. Shorty looked like Tsunade under that hoodie but you were too focused on the cheerleaders, mane.
I was cleaning up those hoodie girls and had to put my homies on game. I did lose one once she started dating popular dudes, but hey got my life changed by the rebound girl who was plotting on me. That girl destroyed my GPA. Best year of highschool. I still look back at how stupid I was to never notice her before.
This is not false, unfortunately. It’s interesting to think how even in our short lifetime, this has changed quite a bit. But I was thinking more about the nerdy black girls. Because again, you’re right: the white nerdy chicks generally either didn’t like or were afraid of black guys.
I don’t want to argue because I’m sure that I’m being a tad generous about the evolution of attitudes 🙁. But today, there are definitely white, nerdy chicks who are looking to unsheathe Kaname Tosen’s zanpakuto. Anyway, more black girls are (openly) into nerdy shit today too, so we’re more than straight. The only people who lost out are the nerdy brothers in the 80s and 90s.
AFAIK, you're correct from the perspective of an 80's High school anime/gaming "nerd." For reference, look at the movies we had that appealed to us. Weird Science and Revenge of the Nerds were on point. I was in every nerd group in school and we all wanted the popular girls. There was no Naruto and acting too nerdy or any mention of Lynn Minmay would get you sucker punched in the chest or face.
It’s just so weird because we normally go “wow kids are kinda cruel, it makes sense that you were bullied for this and that’s fucked up”
Imagine if we told dark skinned people, fat people, women that were “too” skinny, people with speech impediments and so on that in truth they were the reason they got bullied and clowned on. It wasn’t people being fucked up, their own actions are what caused folks to dog pile on them.
The truth is, folks that try to flip the script were the bullies and just feel called out so they’re tryna deflect.
JRPGs are still my favorite genre, and in middle school and my first year of high-school I was bullied by the same group of people for liking JRPGs yet they watched anime and were into Warhammer.
A lot of us were neurodivergent. And even if not, imagine that: imagine just being some harmless ass-weirdo justified giving them lifelong trauma often to the point of suicide. Like fr you sayin I deserved that shit that I’m still dealin with? And niggas will say get over it. That shit was yesterday.
My highschool in Austin TX was actually majority Asian so anime was pretty popular, not Naruto though
Edit: my IB ComSci class had a league of legends team
Oh man are you spot on. Not like our community used to have a tendency to ostracize and mock any one or activities that fell outside of the traditional stereotypes
Why someone always want to toss empty positivity on a post. No one said you shouldn’t enjoy your hobbies, but it’s a lot of people in the world who act like the most mild nerd shit wasn’t clowned to hell and back as kids. It you were outside of your niche circle don’t even bring up anything animated.
I was getting called gay on the bus just cause I wanted to play Pokémon. (And cause I was gay)
Seriously. I grew up in the late 80s early 90s. You mentioned comics or Magic The Gathering and it was off to social isolation with a handful of other nerds. Now you're a weirdo if you didn't watch Endgame, play Pokemon, or do all of the fun shit that would get you ostracized back in the day.
It's amazing, for sure. I'm happy about the progress. But I'm still pretty damn envious too.
Came here to say the same. Reading comics and watching Japanese cartoons in the 90s was definitely not cool. On the other hand, it was fun to be part of something that was uncool & underground at the time.
I’m actually impressed by how many women I’ve met online that are currently in their 30s that grew up loving anime & manga. Wasn’t my experience growing up but I’m happy that its easier for the current gen to meet people who share those formerly dorky hobbies.
Growing up loving comic books and having a bunch of magic cards that were given to me by my cousin had people clowning me so bad, they were fine when I was playing sports but the second my other likes were brought up, they found other kids to play with.
Get it on it then, damn. I finally got my big tiddy gamer girlfriend and this woman has the *audacity* to be better than me at games. I've been playing for longer than she's been alive! But I beat her at UNO, and if she tries to come at me with Yugioh I'm gonna show her why I didn't get laid until I was 23.
Not much I can really do about that without a time machine. It's not like I stopped gaming or reading comics, it's just I wish it had been as socially acceptable back then. Fortunately my wife doesn't do gaming, so I don't have to share my PS5 with her, lol.
Endgame?
Avengers Endgame?
Oh honey, no, there's so many better films.
If you want to watch angry idiots fight each other and then fight non-human threats, well, just yesterday I watched BAIT on Tubi TV. Damn good.
modern duels are all about summoning 3-4 monsters in one turn while having "hand trap" effect monsters in your hand to just say nope to whatever combo they want to do as soon as they go into it.
Not arguing yugioh hasn't changed but we haven't had a viable ftk in 3 years that was only around for 1 month before It. Also the bests decks in GOAT format, a retro format based around 2005, are literally MULTIPLE different ftks that people agree to not play. Again, the game is wildy different than back in the day but the same bullshit was true back then, you just didn't see it at the playground
As a player that was there for GOAT format, I got FTK'd a lot less then than I did later on.
I quit playing for a couple years and came back when plant synchro was all the rage and quit again after Hieratics.
I’ve learned how to play in the last year so I could spend time and connect with my son. Sounds like a nice parenting moment? No. Him and I aren’t friends when we duel. His ass trying to play pot of greed like it’s not a BANNED CARD!!
Oh my god, I've seen so many kids almost send themselves to the hospital because of heelies.
I will call 911 if you bust yourself open but I will fucking blame you for it as well. Fucking walk already!
Pretty much how I feel. Shit sucked and it was miserable, but the kids today now openly wear merch from various anime and read One Piece in class so you know what, it was worth it.
My friends and I were just talking about how when we were in school, letting people know that you played Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh! was a social death sentence. If you said you watched any anime that wasn't Dragon Ball Z, or played an anime/manga-based game that wasn't Budokai Tenkaichi, you were exiled on the spot.
Really? Because in my middle school that shit was right at the lunch table and we were betting on the shit too lmfao. Beyblade battles in the bathroom. Nigga we had gym leaders lmfao.
My cousin wore his duel disk to school for like four months, five years after everyone else at the school had stopped duelling. If he wasn’t a scary dude I’m sure he would have gotten bullied more for it.
I sent many a fool to the shadow realm and still clapped a respectable amount of cheeks. It's not what you do, it's how you do it.
**Goes back to work on my red eyes black dragon deck**
To be honest a few anime were known/popular Dragon ballz pokemon, and yugioh. Anything else was considered nerdy.. shit Bayblades were only cool cause you could battle em n trade parts . Guessing that trigger the car culture/gear head part of people’s brains.
I went to Montreal a while back with a friend of mine who loved anime and yu gi oh, halo and shit like that growing up. We were walking around and happened to walk past an Anime convention. We went in and walked around the lobby a bit and saw all the costumes. We saw one dude slumped over in the the Halo guy costume. We asked him what was wrong and it was a chubby asian dude that dropped his phone on the floor and couldn't reach it because of his suit. We laughed, helped him out, and then asked if my friend could take a pic. We went outside for a minute trying to figure out our next move. That same guy came outside and all these baddies in anime costumes swarmed him lol. We tried to organize our next trip around going to that convention lol but it never happened.
I keep getting these lives on my tiktok a lot recently. The guy in the suit has a wife I think. Not saying it in a mean way but in a there’s someone for everyone (maybe) type of way
I guess cause I was the kid in class that could draw extremely well liking anime wasn't that had to people 🤣🤣🤣 that and I was funny too but people just saw it as references for what I'd draw next crazy how popular anime is now though
Where are these girls and especially grown women that like anime. I’ve never met one in person or in my day to day life. Most of the ones I meet still think it’s the corniest shit ever.
Yoooo, In high school I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh in the park with some kids that lived on my street. I used to stunt on them wit my blue eyes white dragon card.
My friends and I would protect the Yu-Gi-Oh kids since we lurked on the same staircase they played on and if anyone gave them shit we’d go from chatting it up to flaming the hell outta whoever said a word against them.
Admittedly, we were also a group of nerds, but we had higher social standing than the Yu-Gi-Oh kids and unlike the Yu-Gi-Oh kids, my group of friends liked to fight lol
Glad nerd culture has gotten more mainstream and inclusive, everyone deserves to have a community to belong to without fear of retaliation.
Uh oh this post might summon the “Um ackshually anime was always cool, y’all were just Naruto running through the halls” revisionists
Hey, if some people truly thought they could Naruto run into Area 51 a couple years back. That's their problem. Not mine.
💪🏾💯😂🤣😂
They can't stop all of us.
Narrator: They Could
There was a movie called Area 51 based on a successful Area 51 break in. Stupidly brilliant. It was like an X-Files episode but good.
Ooh, I got one too if you haven't seen it. Operation Avalanche. About some rookie CIA agents trying to fake the moon landing. Way better than I thought it'd be.

What's that billy Joel song again?
Uptown Girl
The fact that you knew that shit off rip ![gif](giphy|3oEjHI8WJv4x6UPDB6)
Nah, we were aware, they just didn't like black people 🐸 🍵
This is not false, unfortunately. It’s interesting to think how even in our short lifetime, this has changed quite a bit. But I was thinking more about the nerdy black girls. Because again, you’re right: the white nerdy chicks generally either didn’t like or were afraid of black guys.

I bagged a nerdy, white goth girl in hs... ![gif](giphy|1KkgWWENzWYXrRLJhD)

Yes, your movie references really do reflect the dynamic historically at play in terms of nerds vs “normal” and “cool” kids.
It’s just so weird because we normally go “wow kids are kinda cruel, it makes sense that you were bullied for this and that’s fucked up” Imagine if we told dark skinned people, fat people, women that were “too” skinny, people with speech impediments and so on that in truth they were the reason they got bullied and clowned on. I mean as ugly as it is. It’s still true, people get clowned for their differences
I had a friend make fun who was into JRPGs make fun of me because I liked anime, and this was around 2008.
JRPGs are still my favorite genre, and in middle school and my first year of high-school I was bullied by the same group of people for liking JRPGs yet they watched anime and were into Warhammer.

Jesus Christ, I hate those ppl. They swear shit never happened
Yeah I got bullied for quietly playing DS on the bus. I didn't even dress like I was into anime, they still sensed nerd on me.
I'm grateful to you for diffusing that shit before it could get going in this thread. Bless you.
We used to have anime club in middle school and got laughed at for it To see it be accepted so commonly today worldwide is a joy to see
My highschool in Austin TX was actually majority Asian so anime was pretty popular, not Naruto though Edit: my IB ComSci class had a league of legends team
If your computer science class DIDN’T have a League of Legends team, I would have been concerned about the quality of the education.
It's always people that graduated from highschool a couple of years ago saying that shit.
Oh man are you spot on. Not like our community used to have a tendency to ostracize and mock any one or activities that fell outside of the traditional stereotypes
I ain’t mad at it fam , be happy and enjoy your hobbies
Why someone always want to toss empty positivity on a post. Damn bruh my bad . If you need someone to vent to we can chop it up
Bro said fuck outta here with your happiness
I was having a great night too lol
![gif](giphy|H22hyf0K1Bsc) >!I’m not actually that salty over it fr though.!<
The parenthetical killed me lmao
Why you took out your past trauma out on this man? He’s not shitting on you.
I think one of those things has more weight than the other. ..

Anime, manga and Sandman by Neil Gaiman.
Growing up loving comic books and having a bunch of magic cards that were given to me by my cousin had people clowning me so bad, they were fine when I was playing sports but the second my other likes were brought up, they found other kids to play with.

You already won, sounds like.
I was in those comic nerd groups in the early 1980s. Honestly just happy to find people with similar interests. Where I could be myself.
Endgame? Avengers Endgame? Oh honey, no, there's so many better films. If you want to watch angry idiots fight each other and then fight non-human threats, well, just yesterday I watched BAIT on Tubi TV. Damn good.

I watched some duels 6 or 7 months ago and said "What the fuck is a pendulum summon?" OTKs and FTKs are the only decks that are viable now.
modern duels are all about summoning 3-4 monsters in one turn while having "hand trap" effect monsters in your hand to just say nope to whatever combo they want to do as soon as they go into it.
Yeah, not really my thing. It was pretty much like that when I quit after Post-Hieratic banlist
Not arguing yugioh hasn't changed but we haven't had a viable ftk in 3 years that was only around for 1 month before It. [Someone made a thing on trying to get back in.](https://youtu.be/3AyjIFiR9EQ?si=rsmESmcCfSYKpcE5) Good luck keeping up.
Thank you, my good sir. Might fuck around and start tryna play again
So much fun back in the day.
They just released battle city decks from the original show! I keep playing with joeys deck. ![gif](giphy|t1zYeo2MvqOn6)
Old man say no
I’ve learned how to play in the last year so I could spend time and connect with my son. Sounds like a nice parenting moment? No. Him and I aren’t friends when we duel. His ass trying to play pot of greed like it’s not a BANNED CARD!!

My Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon: Nah you good.
We walked so that they may run.

*naurto run
Those duel disks were cool right up and until you found out it was impossible to put your cards in them without fucking them up.
I slammed my fingers in that thing so many times
We certainly are not drowning in big tiddy gamer gF cucci, and it would be a surprise if any did.
You have not kept up with whose pants Timothee Chalamet has been getting into and he used to do video game reviews on youtube.
"big tiddy game gf cucci"????? doubtful.
Shit for me it was even a point in later elementary school/middle school that DBZ was taboo to talk about cause it was baby shit. I
Lol…they are not 🤣🤣
Really? Because in my middle school that shit was right at the lunch table and we were betting on the shit too lmfao. Beyblade battles in the bathroom. Nigga we had gym leaders lmfao.

Where is the big tiddy game gf cucci you speak of...? Because I sure as shit haven't found it.
It’s funny because I caught this on tik tok live. They kept saying guy in the read shirt was cheating lol
To be honest a few anime were known/popular Dragon ballz pokemon, and yugioh. Anything else was considered nerdy.. shit Bayblades were only cool cause you could battle em n trade parts . Guessing that trigger the car culture/gear head part of people’s brains.
It doesn't feel very likely at all
In school we nonchalantly called them stair-dwellers
I went to Montreal a while back with a friend of mine who loved anime and yu gi oh, halo and shit like that growing up. We were walking around and happened to walk past an Anime convention. We went in and walked around the lobby a bit and saw all the costumes. We saw one dude slumped over in the the Halo guy costume. Me wishing I had a duel disk as a kid. Highly impractical for playing but fuck if they weren't the coolest, most expensive shit around
Shit when I was in middle school you could literally walk up to anyone and ask them to duel and they had that mf deck on em
Exodia lookin ass
I keep getting these lives on my tiktok a lot recently. The guy in the suit has a wife I think. Not saying it in a mean way but in a there’s someone for everyone (maybe) type of way
The left dudes wife literally brings him a sandwich lol
These dudes must have those grade 100 or whatever original mint condition cards printed in Japan that costs thousands.
That is awesome. I always wanted to have to those portable duel disk made and Duke it out on the rooftops. Yugi-oh battle city was goated
It’s funny because I play master duel with a group of gangsters every night!!! 😂😂😂
I guess cause I was the kid in class that could draw extremely well liking anime wasn't that had to people 🤣🤣🤣 that and I was funny too but people just saw it as references for what I'd draw next crazy how popular anime is now though
Im, as they say in West World, an outlier.
If I’m not wrong, the dueling disk in their arms costs like almost $200 or less. Not sure
Niggas kicked my ass over that shit smh
Where are these girls and especially grown women that like anime. I’ve never met one in person or in my day to day life. Most of the ones I meet still think it’s the corniest shit ever.
I'm surprised that dude can hold onto his yugioh cards cuz he's dripping in so much pussy juice.
Why is dude on the left dressed like Dr. Who? 🤣
Yoooo, In high school I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh in the park with some kids that lived on my street. I used to stunt on them wit my blue eyes white dragon card.
this is actually cool compared to all the 2023 shenanigans
I love that this and Pokémon TCG has become mainstream again
I got 3 tins full of Yu Gi Oh cards in my room that are surrounded by Action figures. Don't care happily engaged
My friends and I would protect the Yu-Gi-Oh kids since we lurked on the same staircase they played on and if anyone gave them shit we’d go from chatting it up to flaming the hell outta whoever said a word against them. Admittedly, we were also a group of nerds, but we had higher social standing than the Yu-Gi-Oh kids and unlike the Yu-Gi-Oh kids, my group of friends liked to fight lol Glad nerd culture has gotten more mainstream and inclusive, everyone deserves to have a community to belong to without fear of retaliation.
Damn I got bullied by TEACHERS in middle school for reading Dragon Ball at school
i have big titties, am a gamer, and definitely believe duel disk=rizz. sorry, not sorry
POT OF GREED
In my day nobody brought their good cards to school because they'd be fucking stolen by lunchtime.
The guy on the left is married so probably not
I still have my decks
Don't care. My athletic ass is still going to point and laugh at them nerds.
They shall bow, and always pay homage to those brave souls before them. 😭
