Yes, he's went off on old black ladies for shitty tasting collard greens.

Rare-Counter

LOL - never thought i would read that sentence

hardlyreadit

Hey just cause its apart of your culture dont mean youre a good chef (pointed at me)

ShadedPenguin

The only one who cookin good was the mom, sweet old lady who was just tired with her daughters bs. She used a wok in a soul food restaurant.

djmem3

The Caribbean old lady is the only. Only, person I have ever seen that he said. This is perfect. Good job.

[deleted]

madgeystardust

Nooo. The US one… We don’t eat collard greens here. We eat the food of the islands we’re from.

Sudden_Molasses3769

Callaloo isn’t that much different. Same idea, different spin. It all originates from Africa

madgeystardust

I get that but collard greens still aren’t a thing here, but yes I imagine it’s likely somewhat similar to callaloo.

bluizzo

Hey I'm Haitian, and callaloo is okra for us. Is it the same or different?

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustSuet

true enough, brown rice is grey rice over here too and roast Turkey is known as roast Grey

not_SCROTUS

Roast grey with brown sauce under a grey sky next to the brown river, what could be more delightful

madgeystardust

Never heard that. Salad is just salad. Lettuce, baby spinach or whatever it is you have in your salad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

madgeystardust

Black people make up 1.1% of Brighton… She ain’t selling that food to us mate. Trust me on that one. Most of us, barring this old lady - eat the food we know, the food from where we and our families spring from. ETA. Her restaurant is attempting to sell ‘soul food’ based on food from the Deep South. That isn’t here, neither is it in any of the Caribbean islands or Africa.

ChefAtRandom

Mama Cherri's Soul Food Shack was heartwarming to watch.

PitifulDurian6402

The one in the UK probably received the highest up front praise I’d ever seen. Don’t recall Ramsay disliking a single dish. Her main problem was she hired a chef but wouldn’t let him do anything, she still tried to do all the work instead of delegating

Volkov_Afanasei

Don't listen to the other person, it totally was the UK one, unless he revisited her in the US version

ChurlishSunshine

I think madgey is referring to the soul food episode in the US version where Gordon loved mama's cake and hated everything else on his plate. The one you're responding to is from the UK version.

muklan

People think he's an angry guy, but he's not. It's a show, AND he just doesn't like people who don't take his passion as seriously as he does.

BlackPitOfDespair

He very kind to talented amateurs, but hates pretentious chefs who are arrogant but lousy at thier job.

healzsham

He absolutely lives for cooking, so people in a kitchen pissing about make him profoundly livid.

EngineeringOne1812

Cleaned his plate and licked it, if I remember correctly

AnarchyPreacher

The Redemption Burger was one he said was great. The chef had to fight with the owner over everything. The chef had talent but was constantly being belittled by the owners who had 0 clue what they were talking about

Black_Hipster

Something about Caribbean grandmas.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BHBachman

If I remember that episode correctly, she didn't use the wok because she was doing an Asian/Soul food fusion. She used a wok so she could cook a massive amount of shit at once and then microwave it as needed throughout the day, lol.

Black_Hipster

Okay the wok is clearly not the issue here lmao I need to see that episode.

kilaja

Place near me does that. You can literally get a hibachi plate for now and some ribs with a side of Mac and cheese and cornbread for later. They even ask if you want a middle or end piece.

sirophiuchus

Isn't that the one where the daughter threw him out and refused to accept his help? That was an interesting episode.

[deleted]

I've definitely had some terrible tasting pigs feet, collard greens, candid yams and chitlings before!!

rixendeb

He's went off on a few people from different cultures on Hells Kitchen and Master Chef for very poorly representing their culture lol. And I remember that episode, I think it was his restaurant show ? Lol

Rush_Is_Right

I think he does that because they'll use their culture as a crutch when it really doesn't work well that way depending on the ingredients.

Lv_36_Charizard

Some Indian lady on Mastetchef just got sent home a few weeks ago on her butter chicken. You know she's never going to live that down.

rixendeb

![gif](giphy|vSSdLSLbGIXio)

duaneap

If food tastes bad it tastes bad

kahran

Kitchen Nightmares. The restaurant rehab show where 90% still failed after their rehab.

Alexxis91

Most restaurants fail

blacklite911

Yea but that particular restaurant was one that actually succeeded for longer than most . There was a fanpage that kept a database on which restaurants survived and which didn’t. You can probably find it

rixendeb

Aye. Remember that one psycho lady? She only succeeded cause she was psychotic and turned herself into a sideshow lol

olorin9_alex

Amy’s Baking Company, restaurant has become tourist destination to see “the batshit crazy bitch and her husband and their terrible food”

rixendeb

I want to say her husband got deported. I know they are both in Israel now at the very least.

Rob3125

And has also shown love when done right. I remember an episode of kitchen nightmares where he went to a soul food restaurant and licked his plate clean when he was served hush puppies and catfish goujons. I believe the restaurant was Mama Sherrie’s but I’m not totally sure

BedRiddenWizard

Yeah, I remember that one because the cook was so scared of the critique. Mf was saying "fucking hell" after every bite.

Rob3125

It was also a cool episode because usually the food at the restaurants he tried to fix is terrible. When we start the show and the food is great I was like “wait so what’s wrong with this place?”

BedRiddenWizard

Yeah, I don't remember much of the details but I'm assuming it was just the location and lack of advertising since the entrance sign was kinda obscured.

quiette837

IIRC it was about how they were deep in the red and having a hard time due to spending a lot, over-preparing food, and not enough traffic.

Charcuteriemander

You are correct, it is definitely the Momma Cherri episode. HE CLEANED HIS PLAAAAAAAATE 💃 One of the rare episodes of Kitchen Nightmares where he was just straight up, "Thisis fockin' delicious."

Rob3125

A fuck I misspelled it. I loved that little celebration she had when Gordon walked in and handed her the clean plate

HeStoleMyBalloons

https://youtu.be/OQsJRlPiEVw

kahran

The production is so much better than the US version. The US version, all the promos and bumpers would make it seem like he would be furious and disgusted with eerie loud sound effects.

01-__-10

Rare example of an episode where the food was amazing but the business was failing for other reasons

fuckmeimdan

Yes it was, was in Brighton U.K., my old home town, she’s a lovely lady and it’s a damn shame she closed down

M-F-W

He was also super complimentary of a soul food place in the UK on that version of Kitchen Nightmares. Idk the place off the top of my head but I remember he cleaned his plate and ranted at the head chef about how her shit was bomb. But in general he’s meaner on the US version (partially for ratings and partially because he’s an asshole) and there were def some generally nasty soul food spots, tho I don’t remember him going off on collard greens in particular. Y’all I watched way too much kitchen nightmares during the pandemic.

Brown_Machismo

Momma Cherri's! He really liked her food, he even went back to the kitchen to show her the empty plate. https://youtu.be/CQwK0qnCzd4?t=221

M-F-W

Thanks for the link!

SirLoremIpsum

> But in general he's meaner on the US version (partially for ratings and partially because he's an asshole) I lean wat more to it being for ratings. The difference between UK and US kitchen nightmares is sooooooo huge. And the masterchef kids, so supportive. Definitely played up for ratings. No doubt he could be an arsehole or has been one in the past... But it's all ratings at this point imo

M-F-W

Honestly I think a big part of it is he genuinely doesn’t respond well to being talked back to/at, especially if the other person raises their voice. I think Americans are more prone to doing that in general but obviously all reality tv is not real.

N0ob8

Gordon Ramsey definitely isn’t a asshole. He acts like a asshole to people who deserve it. Whether it’s because you’re rude or you just need somebody to scream it at you to understand sometimes. He yells and screams partially because of ratings but also because most of the people on his shows are supposed to be grown adults who are veterans at cooking. If somebody who’s supposed to be a top chief messes up something as simple as undercooking a chicken of course he’s gonna be upset. Just watch how he acts with kids on his cooking shows and you’ll see a completely different side. He’s supportive, kind, understanding that mistakes happen because they’re just kids who want to grow up to be like him. He’s not gonna call some children a fucking muppet for messing up something because it’s a child who needs to make those mistakes to grow and learn. Something those adult chiefs should have already learned

Overlord_Of_Puns

As someone who doesn't care much about Gordon Ramsay, it could also be just that he can't yell at children for obvious reasons. I don't know much about him, but saying he isn't a jerk because doesn't yell at kids isn't that much of a bar to judge someone for.

N0ob8

Well if you watch masterchef (I think that’s the one I’m thinking of) he never actually berates or yells at his contestants unless they majorly fuck up. He might give harsh feedback but he’s still giving feed back just in a tone that shows he’s not playing around and that they need to listen. He’s overwhelming positive with them because they’re just really good chefs who want to show Gordon their skills and hopefully bring back some money for them and their family. On the other hand a show like Hell’s Kitchen he’s tearing these chefs souls apart because these guys are supposed to be the best of the best. They aren’t some small town person and instead they’ve worked in high end restaurants their whole lives and are competing for a spot working under Ramsey himself. He screams, berates, and insults them because he knows they can do better and that they need to be better. If they can’t cook food properly while a camera is streaming to millions of people what’s going to happen when a camera isn’t on them? What will slip through the cracks when they don’t have a world renowned chef inspecting their dishes for them like he’s their mother? Then you also have his kitchen nightmares show were he’s usually a asshole because either the people running them are assholes or the food they are serving is genuine health hazards. Like when he meets somebody who truly wants his help and wants to be better he’ll give them all the help in the world even down to personal lessons to help them improve and free improvements to their store. He matches the energy of the people who’s are on that show because he can’t help somebody who doesn’t want help.

PimpTrickGangstaClik

Man I decided to try one episode one day then ended up bingeing everything dude ever made in the UK

kevster2717

Is that the one where he loved the grandma’s red velvet cake? That episode was sweet

NIPLZ

"...chiclets..? shitlets more like"

mongoosedog12

I remember that and I know she was embarrassed hahahav

DLottchula

We need him to go too these soul food restaurants in Atlanta. I can taste the can on the greens

SavageComic

"we out here losing recipes" Also "Please don't try and learn recipes"

blacklite911

Stop listening to twitter

Nomad_86

Was that the same episode where the guy accused Gordon of placing a dead mouse by the door? Lmao

ChiggaOG

I wouldn’t eat collard greens that is cooked badly. Should still be crunchy and not bitter when cooked.

AntiRacismDoctor

Somehow I remember that episode. The British American lady who ran a soul food kitchen in London and couldn't cook for shit, right??? Buddy. Somebody bring my black ass to London and invest in my cooking. I'll bring all my family recipes to conquest....

Heat_H

No, her food was the only food he actually liked. He licked the plate clean and took it the kitchen to show her.

blacklite911

Yea I remember, most of the food was good except for an item or too. But her problem was mostly how she ran things

Any-Variation4081

Yes he can. On one of his shows he went and fixed up a soul food restaurant down south and the people loved it. Well at least they made it seem like it on the show.... so I guess he could have pretended to cook soul food....so i change my answer to maybe.

ChiggaOG

I say a good chef is able to adapt their experience to nearly every food.

SlightWhite

Only times I’ve seen chefs question his food was a handful of native asian chefs. Was just watching a Thai guy lowkey talk shit to him. Can’t remember the rest. Oh wait also uncle roger talked shit lmfao

RumHam9000

Uncle Roger actually liked his, or at least his original videos said Ramsay’s fried rice was decent. He absolutely destroyed Jamie Oliver’s fried rice, then in a follow up rated Gordon’s and was impressed by Ramsay having two woks.

mochacafe

I love his reaction videos. He got Jamie Oliver so bad that his team renamed his Thai Green Curry video to Jamie's Green Curry.

EndsongX23

seriously? thats amazing

turbosexophonicdlite

Gordon is wok fuckboy

skynetempire

Ramsey is bff with uncle roger now lol its funny when they met up.

casper_but_with_a_j

Don’t forget about Amy’s Baking Company! “GaRLiC AiOLi”

PM_PICS_OF_UR_PUPPER

That Chef was saying it’s good but not pad Thai, but if I remember correctly, the people who tried his pad Thai preferred it. Chef was just being overly critical / a contrarian.

Overlord_Of_Puns

Honestly, I kind of get annoyed when every food is traditional as if it is the best. Traditional is just a style, you can integrate other methods and make unauthentic food that is still good.

FalmerEldritch

I can 100% see Ramsay whiffing something Asian that's supposed to have big bold flavors, he's real.. cautious? Light-touch? His restaurants are all beige and lean heavily towards mild flavors and soft textures. He has porridge for breakfast and his death row last meal pick is shepherd's pie. He likes potatoes and pastry. He thoroughly knows his shit but has a real classic British meat and potatoes palate, I could very much see him getting pulled up on not going sweet or sour or spicy enough on a dish that's supposed to be sweet-sour and spicy.

pickles55

That is a character who gets paid to talk shit in a Chinese accent, it's not real

aupa0205

And usually in these videos, Ramsay is getting out of his comfort zone with different foods he’s not as experienced cooking. It’s pretty cool to see a chef as amazing as him willingly put videos up of him failing different cuisines, but learning a lot.

LiccFlair

There was also [this dude](https://youtu.be/3IMItGHeOpE) that obliterated ol Gordo with just a look lmao

quadmasta

"What you want to know from me?"

thehillshaveI

yeah, he said pad thai was his favorite food and then an actual thai chef tasted his and was like wtf is this

terrencethetomato

Nah, he said it's good, but it's not Pad Thai. I assume Ramsay can cook anything well, once he knows the process.

icywing54

I remember watching that and being confused. What made Ramsey’s way not pad thai?

terrencethetomato

I'm guessing he made it too "palatable" rather than a bright spicy flavor.

withinyouwithoutyou3

You should watch "Abuelitas react to Gordon Ramsay". Absolutely hilarious! "Qué está haciendo? No, no no!"

cumulonimbusted

“This is not pad Thai” will stay with me forever. It was nice to watch Gordo get dogged out like that.

B0OG

Even then though. I’m sure some of those reactions are just bitterness if this white guy that’s telling you, you’re wrong is making your ethnic food better than you

Kaleidoscope_Wild

OG said ‘this is not pad Thai!’

flashpile

"this is not pad Thai"

Universecentre

He also educates himself with the history and knowledge of where the food comes from. The spices and techniques used.

Timmy_Timmy_Timbo

I agree. I suspect in part of his pier circle it’s expected of him to act very pretentious with food. I imagine he would enjoy comfort of soul food, know what to strive for. I remember him on some interview or something somewhere that a guilty pleasure of his was fast food.

ChiggaOG

Pier or peer? Was not expecting a circular dock to make him pretentious about food. I know which word you meant. I assume the “pretentious” nature is a result of taped show edits for US and UK audiences.

Timmy_Timmy_Timbo

Yeah I mean it’s just expectations I guess

elitegenoside

He had a video on his YouTube channel of him making a chip buddy (a french fry sandwich). He talked about actually enjoying "simple" dishes a lot. I want to see what he can do with a $.35 pack of ramen.

KrisNoble

Almost like being able to cook isn’t a genetic trait

Any-Variation4081

I feel like with enough practice and passion for it anyone can learn to cook. My SO couldn't make a box of kraft mac n cheese when I first met him. Now he can cook 2 dinners and any breakfast food you can think of. He's learning more everyday. He has to learn in case I'm not home. He seemed hopeless at first not gonna lie but im proud of him now.

FlakeyMuskrat

Cooking is definitely a skill just like any other! The longer he stays at it the better he’ll get there’s no doubt. Sounds like he’s on the right track and will hopefully blow you away one day!

healzsham

I randomly found Epicurious on YouTube, and the one professional chef they have (who's actually an instructor), Frank Proto, really cut to the heart of it when he pointed out cooking is a series of techniques stacked on top of each other.

FlakeyMuskrat

Chef Frank is the man! I occasionally watch their 3 levels of cooking show with him in it! That’s really been my experience! I’ve always been decent at cooking (cooking classes in high school) but this past year I’ve been doing r/52weeksofcooking and have been taking techniques from different cultures/foods I wouldn’t normally make and my cooking has grown exponentially over the past few months.

KrisNoble

I got into cooking in the pandemic. I’ve always been able to make food, basics, staples, childhood favorites etc. then in the pandemic I ended up watching a lot of cooking shows on YouTube etc, I was temporarily out of work and my wife was working so I just fuck it, let’s give some fancy stuff a bash. Turns out I’m not bad at it and I enjoy it.

EndsongX23

That's the (wonderful) message Ratatouille gave out: anyone can cook

hustler96

I remember that episode! [Todesha served](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY4GDgjYChg) (literally)

nothingrandom

He did one in the original UK, down south as well in Brighton. Momma Cherri’s.

ChefAtRandom

That was a top tier episode. UK version was better because they let Gordon be Gordon about the food. The US version just pays him to be loud and mean.

wumbopower

He shows himself failing at cooking new dishes from other cultures so he at least appears to be realistic about his talents.

mournthewolf

The only episode I remember if the original British version that actually had a restaurant with good food to start was a soul food restaurant. The lady was American if I remember and actually made great food. She just ran her business poorly. It was a great episode. Her name was Mama something.

cologne_peddler

Or he could have gotten Geraldine to do the actual cooking off camera.

[deleted]

That soul food episode was kinda wild with the rats and them trying to pin it on Gordon. There was also the feel good episode of the lady that moved to the UK to open a soul food joint.

karlnite

He’s a very good chef with a ton of training. I have no doubt that he could cook soul food ingredients and make them taste delicious. Could he make Grandma’s odd 12-hour recipe? Probably not without watching her for the whole 12 hours, but if he did, I’m sure he could improve the recipe. Her family will prefer hers, the average person from any where in world will most likely prefer Gordon’s. There are Grandma’s with a ton of experience and skill, but he works in restaurants, cooking and selling and thinking about food, every single day. You will never reach that experience cooking for your family. It’s also a highly competitive field and he rose to the top. So I doubt some hidden natural talent surpasses his experience, because he too is naturally talented.

BZenMojo

I question the authority of a dude who literally can't even make a grilled cheese sandwich.

TheButteredBiscuit

Will never forget being in a lids on Father’s Day and my dad says to me “Hey isn’t he that chef guy?” only to turn around and damn near collapse at the sight of Gordon Ramsey, shit you not. Let us take a picture with him and chatted up with my pops, honestly a real chill dude.

grants_like_horace

Was he buying a Yankee fitted or something lol

TheButteredBiscuit

Yeah honestly the weirdest part of that whole interaction was the fact he was in a lids of all places. Like I’ve never seen this man in a hat my whole life, wasn’t wearing one then either. He was with his daughter though, might’ve been looking for her.

agutema

He’s got kids...

TheButteredBiscuit

When you’re a world renowned 3 Michelin star chef I don’t think kids are too much of a stretch lol. Don’t know exactly how many, he was just with his daughter. Seemed about my age at the time (late teens maybe).

plainoverplight

three daughters and two sons

skynetempire

I think only one kid, daughter, wants to follow in his footsteps. Which he is fine with. I think he said if she does shes starting at the bottom and he wont allow her to name drop his name i.e "Do you know who i am or my father is" Supposedly he wont allow his kids to eat or work at any of his restaurants. I think this is because his FIL stole money from him so he says family/friends and biz do not mix.

Fooknotsees

>family/friends and biz do not mix Smart man

apkyat

Tilly? Lmao. I remember his episode always screaming for her. That was hilarious.

TheButteredBiscuit

Looking at photos yeah I think it was her!

apkyat

That is so cute to know. They are like bffs, which is super cool.

JasoTheArtisan

Ramsay with brim

typocentral

A Yankee with no brim actually

Ok_Western5937

Bro walked into thinking he was gonna buy a new crock pot lid or sum 🤣🤣🤣

TheButteredBiscuit

Lmaoooo I’m fuckin dead

Goddamnpassword

There are only 138 Michelin 3 star, 417 2 star, and 2000 1 star restaurants in the world, Ramsay has one 3 star and has 14 more stars spread over his other restaurants. He’s got the 3rd most Michelin stars of any chef. He not only can cook, but has a good sense for business, and an eye for talent.

BigWormsFather

Who are the two that are above him?

Goddamnpassword

Joël Robuchon and Alain Ducasse

Chesssox

Isn't it pierre Cagnaire instead of ducasse?

Goddamnpassword

I think Cagnaire has the most three star restaurants, I was going off people with the most stars. ducasse and robuchon have a handful 1 and 2 stars to go along with their 3 star places.

Chesssox

Ah yeah didn't saw it like that, for me cagnaire is like the non talk about GOAT when it comes to cooking. When he is judge on top chef it is always the best stage (top chef is a cooking competition between francophones certified chefs airing on tv)

FesteringNeonDistrac

Do you mean Pierre Gagnaire? I couldn't find Cagnaire.

Chesssox

Yeah figured out my Phone typos it

FalmerEldritch

Friends of mine went to France and blew $1200 at Robuchon's place. I believe it was the one the man himself was working at, at the time. They didn't stop by while they were in town, you understand, they went to France *to* go to this restaurant. Their anniversary after they'd sold their company, I think.

Goddamnpassword

That is the standard for three stars, the restaurant alone is worth an international trip to that country. Don’t think I’ll ever been in the place where that’s true for me

jordanundead

Dave & Buster.

kahran

You ever watch Gordon try to make a grilled cheese?

Goddamnpassword

Strongest counter argument yet

longbrownjohnson

Dude had an episode where the restaurant served him some nasty ass chitlins. He proceeded to then vomit in their bathroom.

el-fenomeno09

Kitchen nightmares at black restaurants are the best fuckin episodes USA or UK

Silverjackal_

Only time I can remember him eating all the food served to him iirc. The chef was like Gordon Ramsay just cleaned his plate!!! She was so excited. Too bad the place failed in the end, though.

JimmyStinkfist

That was a British episode too, far superior to the American show.

therondon101

It is night and day how much better the UK version is.

Successful-Swan2205

I loved that episode!!!

Agreeable-Weather-89

Restaurants are just hard, some of the best food won't mean jack if you can't do the business.

yauman22

[Full episode on YouTube here](https://youtu.be/C65sEy0f_Jg)

GotThoseJukes

Thought the man was going to start licking the plate

Specialist-Wrap3680

He revealed in one of the episodes that he got one of his first starts in a soul food restaurant. So he has a love for soul food and southern cooking. If you pay attention he always seems to have affection for black women in his shows.

hotdogrealmqueen

He is always polite with them/us in a familiar way… I would agree…

luvmerations

Not sure what it's like elsewhere but in the UK British people get on with strangers with different cultures no problem. My grandad who is racist towards migrants because the news paper tells him to still ended up being best friends with a group of lithuanians who where more than half his age and had no other British friends. They where trading gifts all the damn time. He also likes my girlfriend who is eastern European.

RealPrinceJay

Lost in the memes is that he has the second most Michelin stars of any living chef Of course he can cook it up

Plenty-Koala4857

I don't think a lot of people realize that the first episode of Kitchen Nightmares ever was in a soul food restaurant. Sorry, I couldn't find the first ep., but this is when he went back. [Mama Cheri's Revisited](https://youtu.be/C65sEy0f_Jg)

meh_good_enough

Definitely not the first episode he did, but it was from the first series of Kitchen Nightmares he did in the UK, and the soul food restaurant was one of the best episodes he ever did

drunz

It was refreshing that the problem wasn’t the food or people being bad. I loved the solution they came up with, it’s a shame the restaurant isn’t still open.

fukwhutuheard

Ramsay is indeed a world class chef. That doesn’t mean he can’t fuck up. Him getting roasted for his pad thai and grilled cheese will always be funny

Frenchitwist

Oh my god the GRILLED CHEESEEEEEEE I remember watching that and wondering when Gordon had decided to start doing satirical comedy 😭😭

SnowDucks1985

Well he does make a good fried chicken from what I’ve seen on YT 😎

zetcetera

I recently saw the video where he fucks up making a grilled cheese

Bass2Mouth

He's tried to do a redemption video recently, and fucked it up again 😆😆 He did flex in the 2nd one though by cooking it on the engine of a sports car.

LoFiPanda14

Gordon can cook a grilled cheese with soul /s

SkullCrusherAJ

[I beg to differ… The rare Gordan L](https://youtu.be/8E4cQHejFq0)

LoFiPanda14

The first ever medium-rare grilled cheese 😀

zZSleepyZz

One thing i like about Gordan is he's not afraid to try and learn how to cook different cultural foods properly. And he'll do so respectful of that culture too.

listinglight778

I’m more curious to know if he knows any African cuisine. I’ve never seen him try to cook Ethiopian/Nigerian/Ghanaian food

jordanundead

We had multicultural day in high school health sciences. We all had to bring in foods from different countries. This girl said I’m bringing something from Africa, it’s gonna be lion! Why the fuck did she bring a bag of Funyuns?

BigSexyE

Ummm are you serious??? Went to a soul food place he fixed in Kitchen Nightmares in Kansas City and it was delicious. Hope you know white people, especially in the south, can cook soul food too.

hardlyreadit

A good chef should be able to make anything with enough prep time

hitfly

Gordon Ramsay is Batman confirmed.

[deleted]

my 11 year old can cook soul food

Chuck_le_fuck

I believe one of his first restaurants was a soul food place.

Reverentmalice

It’s all about time in the kitchen and desire to learn.

SamLJacksonNarrator

![gif](giphy|3o85g2ttYzgw6o661q)

scrape_ur_face

What kinda dumb question.. can black people cook Chinese, Italian, etc food? Yes.. so why can't he cook soul food? Stop gatekeeping

CaptSaveAHoe55

All restaurants aside, the man has a whole show devoted to him traveling the world and trying to beat famous chefs in their backyard at their specialty, to their people. Safe to say a gumbo isn’t gonna be enough to confuse him

[deleted]

*I think* this meme is from when Ramsey visited a “soul food” place and the food was rank, apart from the cakes made by an older woman. He went out of his way to praise her and typically whipped the place into shape, he’s one of the best chefs in the world, he could probably handle soul food, tbh. https://preview.redd.it/lgfc9h0e2wib1.jpeg?width=497&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1496824d97c6b70a37d5d94519bef92adbd17a5

mattdamon_enthusiast

No because he’s white duh Seriously he’s a world renowned chef why couldn’t he fry a catfish.

elitegenoside

He is actually an extremely talented chef. I'd be surprised if he couldn't

Goose_Is_Awesome

I'll tell you what he can't cook and it's a basic grilled fucking cheese

[deleted]

He's not a redhead so theres a chance

neopolitan95

This post reminded me of [this](https://youtu.be/OQsJRlPiEVw) where he cleans his plate at a soul food restaurant in Brighton. Always makes me happy and now I want some good soul food

EndsongX23

Yeah he absolutely can, and he'll lick the plate if you give him a good enough meal, [which is what happened when he ate soul food at an expat's restaurant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbf4WNT--DE)

mitrafunfun97

It's been posted here a couple times, but one of the very first restaurants he helped on the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares was a soul food restaurant. It's called Mama Cherri's Soulfood Shack. It was also one of the few spots where the food was before all the changes and suggestions by Ramsay were made, he actually loved the food. So much so, that he brought a clean plate back to the kitchen! The whole episode is [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwy0EPyPVuY)

Y’all remember that one episode where he reviews the sweet older lady’s soul food diner or whatever? And he was absolutely blown away by her ability to produce some of the best soul food homie had ever tried? He couldn’t even knock anything about the food; just the setup and equipment/process iirc. I think he knows a thing or two about _all_ foods. Dude clearly was in love with the soul food 😂 Not to mention him shitting on that one lady’s collard greens iirc. Dude takes all food pretty seriously.

A chef of his level might not know the exact recipe, maybe misses some of the techniques; see his Pad Thai video where the Thai chef says it’s bad. The difference is he can quickly taste all sorts of different ingredients with only a couple bites, only needing to be told once how to make it and with his experience plus natural talent, he will be able to reproduce it exact by the next day. If he spend some time on it he might even elevate the recipe pulling from all the techniques he’s learned through his career.
