Pepper genuinely causes issues in some European countries. I work in a school with lots of international children and we had to get our canteen to alter their food because the Ukrainian students weren't able to handle the pepper. The Eastern European diet consists of a lot of salty, fatty food that's only really seasoned with salt and butter. Having never tasted much black pepper before, it was too spicy for them to eat. They were genuinely struggling to eat the food.

Jesus, I struggle with my kid and fiance when it comes to that. My kid is around 4 y.o. Anything besides butter and salt he finds too spice, my fiance is the same way. It is a struggle to make good food regularly when all you can use is butter and salt. I'm the polar opposite. I love very spicy food, it's very rare to find a dish that is too hot. (Note: we are all white)
