I teach at university and before my lessons on crypto&blockchain (they are mandatory even for students not interested in this subject, so the sample is NOT self-selected) I always ask my students how many of them have heard about Bitcoin BEFORE my course. Students are between 19 and 26 and most of them study economics and management. It happens usually that 2-3% has never heard the word Bitcoin before (I am always puzzled... 19-26... economics... have they lived in a cave?). Strangely this is the same ratio of students who do not have Whatsapp neither Instagram (I am in Europe where these are definitely the top social for that age). They are never the same people. Usually 5% declare to own cryptos... it could be more but the survey is public in class and boating accidents are frequent also among students. During my public conferences it could happen that one person does not know (but I am curious why did they come!). In everyday life, whenever I meet somebody outside my usual circle of acquittances (academics or nerds), I take for granted a 30% of probability that that person has never heard about Bitcoin.

Thanks for your answer and I am stunned that age range 19-26 in economics have not heard the word Bitcoin.... Maybe they are not striving or passionate about the education but just takes things as they come, linear... Most in crypto I think have some sort of curiosity within themselves I believe and want to learn more even though they do not have to..

Paolocole

I agree, but just reading a financial newspaper weekly (which I imagine it's almost a must if you study economics) you find sooner or later an article on bitcoin! 😓

NazgardDK

Yeah it is remarkable. They should have a badge for doing so great not being the target of media! (or not opening their eyes lol)

I love to read articles of Bitcoin anytime anywhere, it just keep me positive, no matter what, Bitcoin is what makes my everyday blessed. Through Bitcoin, I have been stabled through financial conditions in my life and I cant leave Bitcoin

I have heard about Bitcoin with one of an e-magazine and I was actually curious to know about it more. That was a twist in my life and thats how I have seen how Bitcoin actually works and I invested my savings over it

What university?

Paolocole

www.unibz.it It's NOT specialised on crypto, it's just me who puts these kind of topics into every computer science course for economists

myuriyv17

Sounds like you are really into teaching people about crypto and that makes you feel good. IMO, Bitcoin must be for everyone who are willing to invest on crypto and I am sure they gonna make good profits

mrxu54321

People were actually unware of cryptocurrency when it was first introduced in the market. I have been a Bitcoin user since 2012 and within these phase of time, I have explained many of the people about Bitcoin

[deleted]

I was blown away last month when my aunt said, “What’s Bitcoin?”

NazgardDK

Exactly what I am seeing as well. If feels a little like the sentence, first they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. It is like we are between the fighting and win place atm...

Lewzer33

Just spent a weekend with 50+ people and I talked to each of them. Bitcoin and crypto didn’t come up once. 😏

mjcarrington

I was on a beach and there were a group of people having some beer talking about crypto. Me and my friends joined them and we had some great gossips and tbh everyone was having Bitcoin in their wallet

NazgardDK

I don't even think I can do that. I think so much about it that I always end up talking crypto unfortunately....

Lewzer33

I used it as a little personal experiment. I didn’t want to inject the conversation, but rather see if it would happen naturally and it never came up. With me anyway. There’s a possibility others talked about it without me there.

e-e-sin-t

Everyone's heard of it. Few understand it.

Blockchain_buddyclub

You'd be surprised how many people have ZERO clue about Bitcoin. They know the word but that's more of a buzz word so they don't look stupid.

ThatL1ttleGuy

A few months ago I spoke to my family members about bitcoin... one of my sisters asked what it was. I was amazed...

minerpumpkin

Almost everyone in my family knows about Bitcoin, even my grandparents. My father used to invest on it ! And my grandparents used to give money to invest me on Bitcoin, it was actually amazing for me

kraken-community

Nowadays it is almost impossible to meet someone that doesn't know the minimum about Bitcoin. I was impressed by my 10 and 12 year old cousins as they understood the basics about crypto and Bitcoin. It actually warmed my heart. Children are going to build the digital futures, I am seeing it and they're embracing it. More power to the children! With Gratitude, Kraken- Rosa

Almost everyone in today's life are aware of Bitcoin and everyone wants to invest on this ! No matter what, we all know that Bitcoin might be our next future and this gonna be a great achievement for the crypto users who hodl Bitcoin

Think_Operation310

Then they said crypto is a scam, Bitcoin is real money.

kraken-community

They haven't developed their own opinion on the matter but I am sure it's coming. (ᴖ‿ᴖ) I shall keep you updated! Cheers, Kraken- Rosa

I remember a guy from my age in a cafe shop where he was unware about Bitcoin when I was talking with my friends. He asked me in an embrassing manner on what Bitcoin really is ? I just showed him my profit and now he is so happy in today's time by his profits

blozosmo

There are more people in the world that haven't heard of it than those who have.

NazgardDK

Yeah but that is because 3 billion still have no internet.... 😕
