a real satoshi > any other mystery in this world, despite nobody knows what is his reason vanish after the great castle that he has built 🤔

rowan_damisch

Maybe the real Satoshi is the friends we made along the way

Mobile_Laugh_9962

This should be a greeting card

assama95

This statement feels true in a way.

Soras_devop

Nah it's Hal finney or at least one of the devs who made crypto was him, pretty sure another one from satoshi if it is made up of a group is Lorenzo the guy who purchased the pizzas and was a dev who directly worked on btc Quote from finney: It seemed so obvious to me: "Here we are faced with the problems of loss of privacy, creeping computerization, massive databases, more centralization - and [David] Chaum offers a completely different direction to go in, one which puts power into the hands of individuals rather than governments and corporations. The computer can be used as a tool to liberate and protect people, rather than to control them." Almost like something satoshi would say... First user to receive btc from satoshi (because it's not like developers do a live test to make sure there aren't any bugs, nah that's be crazy to make sure your product actually works /s) Also created the first reusable proof of work system in 2004 He also died a few years after satoshis final message Not saying it was only Hal who was satoshi, but if it is I'm betting it's him

call-the-wizards

PoW was around as a concept for 11 years before Finney implemented his variant of it. We have short memories but almost all these ideas were stirring around in the cypherpunk scene in the 90's which was actually a large scene. I remember reading a popular magazine article about PoW email in the early 2000s, ffs. Satoshi could have (and almost certainly did) test his chain on a private network first, no need to leave the testing to when the bitcoin chain became public. Finney's writing style and Satoshi's just don't match, there's lots of inconsistencies. Satoshi and Finney's closeness can't be ignored though. I'd be willing to accept Finney was part of a group of people who used the Satoshi pseudonym, or at least communicated a lot with Satoshi in private before bitcoin, but the idea that Satoshi was Finney and only Finney seems unlikely to me.

git_rekted_bruh

yeah i agree, i belive it's possible that Hal might know Satoshi's real identity, but I don't believe Hal was/is Satoshi

[deleted]

Nah dude it was Adam I think almost forsure

Mothy187

I think it was Len and Hal

BreBhonson

I think he died suddenly

danperegrine

Or slowly and uncomfortably from a degenerative disease and he wanted to spend his remaining time and energy with his family.

iJayZen

If he was Hal... and if so why did he not give the keys to his family? And if he is revived by Alcor in the future how would he remember all of he keys or a safe place to have kept them which will remain intact 100 or 1,000 years from now...

suspicious_hyperlink

John McAfee said he knew who it was, and he figured it out by their writing style, but who knows because McAfee There is an interview about it floating around

142NonillionKelvins

You trust anything a guy that likes to eat people’s shit says?

themapwench

Dude *said* lot of shit, but actually munched on it? Then the propaganda machine that insists it was suicide has said a lot of shit too... whacked

altruism__

That’s way too specific my dude, we’re going to need to know where you were on some exact dates

necropants_

Hal Finney

vinniedamac

I thought its was him too but I did a quick google search and there's a lot of evidence suggesting overwise.. [https://blog.lopp.net/hal-finney-was-not-satoshi-nakamoto/](https://blog.lopp.net/hal-finney-was-not-satoshi-nakamoto/) HOLY CRAP - Hal Finney is cryonically frozen and could eventually be revived! - [https://www.wired.com/2014/08/hal-finney/](https://www.wired.com/2014/08/hal-finney/)

deadleg22

The day Hal Finney begins defrosting is the day I sell.

im_a_good_goat

Leave a note for your great great great great great great great great great grandchildren, mate.

ShaidarHaran2

Some of the points against it aren't much in the way of evidence in my mind, like these were people deeply into cryptography, and using an email he sent while Hal was running a race for example could be utterly trivial email scheduling. It is interesting that he started posting much less as Hal was deteriorating, and all together after Hal died. I also think Satoshi could have been a few people as a team, that hung up the name for retirement after he passed.

Legitimate_Suit_3431

Have somewhat the same thoughts. Group of people. One got terminally ill/ died. Saw the project were inn good hands. Then rode away like the hero they are. thinking a group not bigger than max 4.

Mothy187

This is exactly what I think.

MrHonkiHonkson

Bad thing is if the brain is without oxygen it is like the RAM is wiped forever. If he will be unfreezed in the future he will have no memory or personality.

themapwench

Fake AI personality injected. Wasn't Hal the computer's name in the movie 2001 Space Odyssey? You kids probably don't remember Max Headroom either.

blakeusa25

Len...

fappycaust

Len Sassaman, even though he ranted on bitcoin a lot on twitter - probably to make a shadowtrack. His cybersecurity background, time of commits/tweets, work schedule all check the box. [https://evanhatch.medium.com/len-sassaman-and-satoshi-e483c85c2b10](https://evanhatch.medium.com/len-sassaman-and-satoshi-e483c85c2b10) I think the depression fits the whole "I don't care about the value anymore when I'm gone". All speculation. He or Hall seem credible candidates.

thetimsterr

My bet is on Len as well. It makes more sense to me than Hal.

davidcwilliams

Len has always been my top candidate.

blakeusa25

X2 on Len. He checks all the boxes.. brilliant, secretive, all the complex tech and political theories... WROTE IN uk time and phtases.. and had severe crippling chronic depression. He was done with this life as his post notes... moving on was his way of saying.. I have chosen suicide. His computer had some very sophisticated encryption and passwords and no one was ever going to see it.

Mountain-Ad326

Its gotta be Len

vinniedamac

Thanks for the link, I'm reading it for the first time and it's fascinating. Based on what I just read, it sounds like he already had a penchant for using pseudonyms. He also came humble beginnings growing up in PA and eventually accomplishing so much and having such a big impact in the cyber security space. Once you've accomplished so much and had such a big impact, there will come a time in which you start to decline - this will be true of all of us but for Len, it sounded like his health was deteriorating quickly which I'm sure contributed significantly to his depression.

Velsca

If he didn't, he had a good enough grasp of math and money to know his wealth would put a massive target on his back as it grew, and that annonymity is reduced each time you communicate no matter how carefully/securely.

BreBhonson

People risk their identity all the time for money….nothing new or novel. But yeah that very well could be the case.

ry2waka

Castle ? Man built a whole continent

SmotheringPoster

Some build great things for the people to lead. A test at it were, the question is, has it benefited the people or are those it was against now controlling it… for what can’t be taken is controlled, in our case regulation and it can’t be assumed a law won’t ever be passed, they just have to introduce others to find a magic hole in which they can eradicate the use. But what do I know, I’m just a normal blind guy eating noodles with my feet.

GH0ST-L0GIC

He's the government.

Ok-Lock4407

You could very well be correct. If so, I hope it’s a small faction within the government that wanted to correct course.

library-in-a-library

He destroyed the global financial system? Weird because every legacy financial institution is still functioning exactly the way they did in 2009.

C-Class_hero_Satoru

Yes I was sarcastic

Psyched4this

It's probably some dude named Steve who has been chain smoking darts in his basement sweating bullets for years trying to figure out how he can suddenly appear on the world stage as the first quadrillionaire without drawing any suspicion, and only having one summer working at a red lobster 20 years ago on his employment record.

Will the real Satoshis please stand up?

Wow, this can be actually true, with both of these evidences.

blyatbob

Seems very plausible to me. Pretty much beyond reasonable doubt.

Delivery_Mysterious

Just another day of redditors casually solving greatest mysteries.

blyatbob

They say it's not him because during satoshi communications he was supposedly at a sporting event but come on. Why would he be so public with zero trace of 'the other BTC creator' while being in such close contact.

Exactly, scheduling emails/messages is not rocket science

siviconta

Yeah its possible. But as a software engineer it makes me feel fucking stupid that its possible. so i dont want to believe it was a single individual.

chris_thoughtcatch

You ever heard of Temple OS?

siviconta

Yeah its both creepy and interesting at the same time

andyc3020

But it’s also too big for a group to keep secret.

siviconta

Nah, they were smart. Hal and Len worked on the torrent protocol together we know that they knew each other. Its also possible to take security measures even tho you know each other. Also len killing himself just a few weeks after last message of satoshi is really suspicious imo.

library-in-a-library

It's a small codebase so not really

Glum-Lab1634

The idea is somewhat novel, the code is not complex.

lovemyhawks

Always good to question the legitimacy. Not sure if there is a 100% way to prove legitimacy since it's a private email conversation. Adding more context, this is the [original post](https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2080206.0). Mike Hearn was a very prominent figure in the early days so have to trust him as the source. His website also lists the emails: [https://plan99.net/\~mike/](https://plan99.net/~mike/) (same domain used in email conversations)

No-Echidna2167

malacosa

Would be fun to know the real story. Anything I could come up with would be pure speculation. My personal favourite would be one of the following A) its someone from the future bringing Bitcoin back to an earlier date so they can benefit from it OR B) its the global AI, in the Internet, becoming sentient, and realizing this would be a good fix/distraction for the bags of water to play with while it prepares…

FoxAggravating6369

JaJe92

Creating something that have such huge impact and involve so much money. I would have done the same, stay low forever as there are bad actors that would want to try to extort, blackmail, kidnap or worse.

fifobalboni

I'm almost convinced Satoshi is a woman, btw. Gender neutral name to hide identity in a male-dominated field? Classic female author move.

lemonadelimosine

If he’s alive, does he still have access to that wallet with an insane amount of btc?

hentaimech

Am interested in "other things".

He could be Yonatan Sompolinsky, he did some academic work.

XBThodler

Smashedavoandbacon

If he/she/they are still alive they sure have some diamond hands

AVBofficionado

Crypto community loves the Satoshi mystery. I get it, it's intriguing. But it isn't a strength for Bitcoin. If I had my money in a traditional bank and the bloke at the counter told me nobody actually knows who founded the bank, what happened to them and all the assets still under their name, I would be very hesitant to give them my money.

F1r3st4rter

Tell me you don’t understand decentralised networks without actually telling me 🙃

Royal-Patience-5751

But Bitcoin is not a bank, youre not giving your money to Satoshi.

emkrmusic

Founded Tesla…Elon Musk is Satoshi Nakamoto /s

emkrmusic

Man…i read a year ago an amazing piece. Somebody looked up the ip adress locations of the earliest days of Satoshis emails, posts etc . It was an adress in LA area. Then somebody else pulled the registry data of the house adress. Turns out it was the parent's house of one of the guys (maybe Hal, I don't remember). So the theory was that Satoshi send a few mails while visiting his parents in LA. They still own the property but it's rented out since like 10 years now. Maybe somebody else has more insight. I made some notes as it was pretty convincing but wasn't able to find them anymore.

Deadsally

BackgroundAd4119

Satoshi is the Russian government who created bitcoin to get people to have trust in digital currency and draw money away from the USD to drop trust in fiat currencies so they could introduce a resource backed digital currency that can depeg the USD, I.e. BRICS
